Not much to say following the last chapter, aside from the fact that I finally got a beta reader for everything so far but will still take time since she'll be busy!
But in the words of Sly Cooper? What. A. Woman!
She's gone from someone with who I bonded quickly to becoming nothing less than a sister to me. That we would find each other is something we can't explain yet both of us are so thankful that we were drawn together. She's my Yin, and I'm her Yang. That's how close we are!
And on TOP of that; I also discovered I have a biological half-sister as well! So yay for more family! \o/
So, with that little tidbit given? I now give you chapter three (two-point-five) of Enter The King: Redux!
~Enter The King: Redux!~
~Welcome To Duel Academy!~
(~Part II: Doubts, Dorms, and Duels!~)
Having finally reached the Academy, just after ten in the morning; everybody began opening their welcome packs and uniforms, making sure to read the information leaflets they had been given for any crucial tidbits they needed to know. One of those tidbits being; that the Academy was lenient to the possession of personal duel disks and had permitted use of them instead of the Academy's version, something a lot of the students were happy about.
The only stipulation was they would not be responsible, or able to provide cover or replacement disks should theirs be stolen, broken, or lost. That led to several students leaving their personal duel-disks back home and taking advantage of the academy duel-disks, knowing ahead of time that damage would be a factor.
Much like the rest of the students, Jaden had begun opening his box and pulled aside the leaflet, quickly skimming over the pages before shoving it into his pocket. Quickly ripped the sheeting off and looked to see what rank he had earned for the rest of the semester. Much to his shock and confusion, he lifted the red blazer up from the box and stared blankly at it.
Five minutes had passed since having opened his uniform pack as Jaden sat down on the chair in disbelief, having chucked the blazer roughly back into the box.
He was in Slifer Red.
"Fucking Crowler!" he growled fiercely, snatching the box up and carrying it with him as he followed the signs towards the Chancellor's office, wanting to rectify this issue. "I'm not having this! I'm gonna see Sheppard and talk about this in person!" he nodded to himself, having read a few moments before, to speak with him if there were any issues or concerns he may have.
~ETK:R!~
Jack Sheppard was currently sitting behind his large, mahogany desk as he continued to work through the never-ending piles of paperwork that swamped his desk. Sure, he knew that it came with the job but a majority of the paperwork was senseless garbage that had nothing to do with him or the Academy, yet it just so happened to be dumped on his desk!
He silently wished for a momentary reprieve from everything, smiling since he heard a knock on the door that exact moment.
"Come in!" he yelled, happy to whoever granted him the distraction. Seeing the familiar mop of brown hair from the most talked-about student, a comfortable grin settled on his face. "Ah, Jaden Yuki! What a pleasure it is to meet you in person, my boy!" Sheppard beamed, rising from his desk, and shook hands with the young duelist.
He had been notified from Kaiba that they would be receiving a special applicant from the Pro-Circuit and he was pleasantly surprised when Kaiba had offered to pay for his tuition and cover any costs that may occur. That even Seto Kaiba would show special treatment to someone meant a lot.
"Likewise, Chancellor! Thank you for having me, I'm already loving it here!" Jaden smiled as he shook hands. Sheppard chuckled heartily from the response and broke off the firm shake as he glanced behind him to check how far from the desk he was.
"Now as grateful as I am for your visit, what can I help you with?" he asked as he leaned against the desk, crossing his arms over his chest. He frowned when he noted the introductory pack in his hands and that it had already been opened. Placing the box on the floor and pulling the blazer out, Jaden began explaining the situation.
"I don't wish to sound ungrateful but could you tell me something, Chancellor?" he asked, changing his face to a serious one. "If I wanted to be in Ra Yellow, what was the minimum mark I needed on my written exam to safely pass the threshold?"
"The minimum mark required was eighty-five percent though it would not be a guarantee. I believe you scored ninety-one, correct? That would be the borderline Obelisk threshold," Sheppard nodded in understanding, now catching on to why the Elemental King was standing in his office, not looking too pleased.
"Yep! Also, in my duel against Crowler, did I not defeat him using his deck?" Jaden probed a bit further, earning a small frown from Jack as he began suspecting foul play at hand here.
"You did, which should never have happened in the first place! There would have been an examiner assigned to you that would specifically use a deck that would prove a challenge, and focuses on countering your deck abilities; hence why we ask what kind of deck you use on the application form," he explained, earning a slightly-awed look before Jaden schooled his features back into his serious look.
"Did I take a single hit during the entire duel?"
"No. If anything, you almost doubled the starting amount of life points you had from that ingenious trap-combo of yours," Sheppard frowned further, looking at the given red blazer, confused as to why Jaden had been given one.
"Then can you please explain to me, why I've been placed in Slifer Red?" Jaden impatiently asked, not wanting to come across as rude to someone who had no idea this happened. "I have easily proven that I'm more than qualified to be in Ra Yellow, and you just also said that I could be in Obelisk Blue at a push. I do not like assuming at all but I'm assuming that Crowler had a hand in the placements and simply wanted to make me suffer for embarrassing him in the duel!" he sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose in disbelief.
"I don't want to sound ungrateful, I don't, but I will not stand here and let him make a fool out of me," he swore with a steel edge in his voice.
"And so you shouldn't," Jack nodded in agreement, taking another look at the red blazer currently held in his hands. "Jaden, I'll agree with you; I'm confused and also curious to know why you were placed in the Slifer dorm when I was handed the rankings from Crowler. From your explanation, however, it makes sense and provides a motive as to why he would do such a thing," he hummed thoughtfully.
"Unfortunately, even if I were to promote you to Ra Yellow right now, I'm afraid I don't have a uniform for you until a month!" he apologized sincerely, handing the jacket back.
"Oh? That's no problem, Chancellor! I can easily get around that one!" Jaden grinned cheekily, earning another curious stare before Jaden's face turned serious once more.
"As I'm here, I have been advised to tell you that something is going on around the island and that some dark dealings are going on. There are vague but scattered presences that have been cloaked in darkness and they're making their move for something: probably the three Sacred Beasts we're currently standing on," Jaden warned as he watched the elder's eyes widen.
"How do you know all this?" Sheppard asked, stunned by being found out before narrowing his eyes dangerously. This was the main reason why the Duel Academy was built on this island and why it was the most isolated and guarded of all five branches. For Jaden to have gotten the knowledge on a top-classified piece of information, celebrity or not, was a security risk.
"I would have thought that Kaiba would have notified you of this and that I have a part to play in all this," he murmured to himself, cursing the tycoon's absent-mindedness. "Do you know the legend of the Supreme King?" he asked, sighing tiredly.
"Vaguely. However, I understand the basic facts to know about the cards and their link to him," Sheppard replied, not easing up his guarded stance. Jaden smiled as it was one less thing to explain. Clicking his fingers, his card of Yubel appeared in his hands and handed it over to Jack to inspect, hoping it would explain the situation. A slight widening of the eyes told Jaden everything he needed to know and nodded in response.
"Forgive me for my earlier hostility towards you, I wasn't aware that you were in the know. It's still a shock when someone who you meet for the first time is privy to top-secret information, so I had to be cautious. I thank you in advance for any help you can provide," Sheppard smiled thankfully, returning the card. "Very well! I hereby promote you to Ra Yellow; effective immediately, and I'll update the system to let them know that you are! Now, I'll be giving the introductory speech in ten minutes. Make your way down and I'll get in touch if I need your assistance!" Sheppard smiled, offering his hand.
"Of course, sir! Anything to help!" Jaden beamed with delight as he shook hands once more. "See ya later!" he yelled as he ran out of the office, leaving Jack alone to his thoughts as the doors closed behind the local celebrity.
'I see things will get chaotic within the next few months. However, I never expected the King's host to be one of my students. I believe that he may just be the thing this school needs,' Sheppard smiled to himself as he resumed working, not even complaining how it seemed the pile of papers multiplied during the conversation.
Not much, anyway.
~ETK:R!~
(Timeskip: Auditorium)
Shortly after lunch had been provided for the students, now around one in the afternoon, the speakers alerted the students about the Chancellor's introductory speech and that everyone was required to be present. So we find everyone making their way towards one of the bigger auditoriums, which reminded Jaden of one of the universities he once dueled in a long time ago.
The first-year students all converged into a collected group around the space between the first row of seats and the desk, which the lecturer would take up for lessons. Jaden calmly, and slightly smug, walked in; noticing Crowler looking around the students, eyes scanning for particular people.
'No doubt for me. Oh, the look when he finds out I'm in Ra Yellow instead of Slifer Red would be priceless! Of course, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the color red,' he thought to himself, getting two giggles in response from his Burstinatrix and Lady Heat. After being given the promotion, Jaden quickly darted into one of the vacant classrooms and quickly used a little of his power to manifest a yellow blazer from thin air, similar to that of the red one he held before promptly chucking it away.
Erring to caution on his first day, he decided on sticking with the usual uniform he saw from several Ra students; underneath the yellow blazer was a visible plain white t-shirt which showed a little bit of his frame, followed off by a pair of faded white jeans and white trainers. He remembered a few months back when Yubel taught him the ability to create a 'pocket dimension' to store almost all his possessions in and access them when he needed them. She explained that it was much easier than carrying luggage around and that he could access it with a click of his fingers and a small trace of dark energy.
Being greatly impressed and thankful for the little trick he wanted to repay the act, and she made sure he made it up to her.
Who'd have thought Yubel liked Musicals?
To each their own, he thought.
With his duel-disk fixed to his hip, knowing Kaiba would seek to replace it if it did get damaged, Jaden expertly maneuvers his way over to a little clearing in the crowd near the back. He glanced over the crowd just catching the sight of both Jenny and Bastion, with no doubt Syrus being there as well, talking with one another about something. She seemed to be really into the conversation if her movements were any indication but the redhead managed to catch him out of the corner of her eye, smiling brightly as she beckoned him over; an invitation he didn't refuse.
"Jay! You're in Ra Yellow as well!?" she all but yelled, beaming with delight at the sight of her idol wearing the same colors as she did. After making a heroic recovery from everything that transpired yesterday involving the brunette, she smiled warmly as she could feel him being in better spirits; idly noting that his smiles reached his eyes this time.
Thankful that he wasn't mad at her when he gave her a huge grin back, she could let go of her worry and be her bubbly self. Jenny winked as she spun around on the spot, showing off the female equivalent of the uniform to Jaden; a sleeveless white blazer jacket fitted with yellow trims, a matching yellow mini-skirt with black gym shorts underneath, and a pair of black leather boots that reached just under halfway up her calves.
Unlike the majority of the girls who had their jackets done up, hers was unzipped; revealing to him the white tube top that finished off near her midriff, showing off her belly button. Top-wise, she was allowed to show off a little cleavage; just enough to sate the imagination without revealing too much. Her hair was tied back up into the usual ponytail but was tied back with a white ribbon that held two red poms at either end, instead of the usual bobble. Jaden found the look familiar but couldn't quite place where he saw it before.
"There were some issues with the marking system and I asked the Chancellor to double-check. He agreed with me in thinking Crowler made a 'miscalculation' in the marking system but it was resolved shortly after meeting him. Plus, he found this spare blazer for me and gave it to me after promoting me to Ra, there and then!" Jaden explained, Bastion and Syrus both catching up with her and moving into their little circle. Bastion smiled, nodding his head since it meant three of them would be in Ra Yellow.
"Awww, I'll be on my own in Slifer! I'll never catch up to you guys!" Syrus pouted, blushing slightly when he felt his hair being ruffled by the sole female of their little group.
"Sy? Just cause we're in Ra Yellow doesn't mean we can't still hang out, right? Anyway, you've got a deck that belongs to Yugi, himself!" Jaden grinned playfully, pointing his thumb to his chest to give off a heroic pose. "Believe in the me, that believes in the cards that believe in you, right?"
"Never took you for an otaku, Jaden-kun!" Jenny grinned, playfully teasing him. Jaden shook his head as he pointed straight at her in response and gave her a challenging grin.
"Just who the hell do you think I am, Ryu-chan?" Jaden smirked in response, getting a tongue poke from the girl.
"Jaden no baka!" she giggled, stretching the vowels as Jaden shared in the small banter and walked up next to her.
"Row, Row, Fight da Power!" he replied, getting a high-five off the redhead. Just in time, as the wall in front of them flashed white and a figure appeared on the screen, revealing it to be the same person Jaden spoke with, not even ten minutes ago. Sporting a ritzy garnet-blazer with gold and silver trims, his entire look demanded and received respect. He didn't have a single lock of hair on his head but he did have an immaculately, neatly-trimmed grey goatee on his face which accompanied his dark grey eyes.
"Welcome, esteemed Duelists!" Sheppard smiled. "My name is Chancellor Jack Sheppard, the Headmaster of the prestigious Duel Academy's Central Branch! You're all standing here today because each one of you has shown us that you have the talent and the skill to be considered worthy enough to enter these hallowed halls! As I'm aware that most of you are tired from the long journey, I'll keep this short," he playfully grinned, earning a few chuckles from the students and some grateful looks as well.
"You will all be studying here for a total of three years, and you will cover a majority of subjects based on and off dueling. While mainly a Dueling School, we will still be focusing on your core subjects; such as Mathematics, Sciences, Languages, Physical Education, and your technical skills in your Modern Technology classes. Either way, I truly hope that these three years will be fun, eye-opening, and a massive boon to your dueling know-how when you graduate; in which some of you may even get into the professional dueling scene once you leave. If you show enough talent!" he smiled, while still maintaining his serious persona.
"While we will be demanding in studies and assignments, please understand that we will only accept people with drive and ambition! Whether you already know the path you walk upon, or whether these three years will provide you with answers to your questions in terms of career choices! Either way, I hope you'll all study hard and remember to play harder!" he grinned, earning a loud cheer and a round of applause from the inspired students.
Jaden had to give props to Jack; he knew what he was doing and how to bring out the very best in people if the fair percentage of the crowd brightened up from his words were any indication.
"Wow, that was short!" Jenny quipped playfully, giggling at the brief introduction.
"Now, it has already been brought to my attention that there were a few errors concerning rank placements. As one example, our very own campus celebrity, Jaden Yuki, has already confronted me about the matter and has officially been promoted from Slifer Red to Ra Yellow as of ten minutes ago. However, I had forgotten to mention that you will need to find accommodation to accompany this change, Jaden," he spoke up, addressing the new Ra student.
Crowler, meanwhile, had snapped his head towards the person in question as he saw the Yuki prodigy in a yellow blazer, instead of red. His eyes narrowed dangerously as his first means of embarrassing him had already failed!
"No problem, Chancellor! I believe I may have a few options already I can discuss, so I shall let you know the details as it proceeds!" Jaden saluted with his index and middle fingers, earning a nod from Jack.
"That's good to hear! Now, if you believe that there is something off about your final mark, please let me know and I'll try to resolve the matter personally. If you are promoted, then I apologize in advance that we do not have any spare uniforms at the moment; so you will be exempt from wearing uniforms until the next shipment comes in. However, if this is the case, please try to dress appropriately when not in uniform. Now, you are all dismissed to find your dorm rooms. I hope you find them quite comfortable! Depending on your rank, of course!" Sheppard chuckled as the connection cut off. That was the cue as many of the students moved into action and began making their way to their dorms.
"Soooo~" Jenny trailed off, turning towards him and earning his attention. "Need a place to bunk?" she asked, hopefully. Jaden's eyes widened in shock, alongside the other two males, at the sudden declaration and offer on a guy sharing a dorm with a female student.
"I do but there is no way in hell that the teachers will allow me to share a room with a female, despite us both being comfortable enough with each other! Gender policies and everything, yanno? I could always bunk with Bastion for the time being-" Jaden trailed off, scratching the back of his head in embarrassment. Jenny was touched by his concern but she decided to be brave and shook her head in the negative, cutting him off.
"I'd be fine with it! Honestly!" she smiled warmly, trying to persuade him. Jaden still didn't look convinced with the glaringly obvious reason that he was a guy and she was a girl, both of whom are sharing a room.
"I can't believe I'm entertaining the idea right now, given that this is going to be a huge scandal... are you sure it's alright for you to share a room with a boy you just met yesterday? My fame besides, I'm still considered a stranger in terms of wanting to share a room with someone! Plus I doubt the faculty would approve of a boy bunking with a female student in her dorm without kicking up a storm! If someone catches wind of this, then I'm going to be in deep shit!"
Jaden was stumped for two reasons; the first was forgetting he would be roomless for the time being. The second was that Jenny, of all people, was willing to share a room with him! Not wanting to send the wrong signals or jeopardize their stay here on the first day of arriving, he knew this would be a dangerous decision, despite her protests. The fact remained that there would be a breach of privacy and would lead to severe repercussions.
She sighed, seeing the conflicted look on his face, before moving into his personal space and pressing her body against his. She didn't hesitate to wrap her arms around him softly, earning some curious gazes from the surrounding students as they watched on.
"Jay, you've told me more than most people know. Believe me when I say that I won't betray your trust in me, any time soon. Plus you've just shown me the concern you have about this and I will take full responsibility since it was my suggestion. I know you won't take advantage Jaden; yesterday proved that enough," she whispered sagely, shocking him on just how much she trusted him. A slight cough broke his reverie, turning to the other Ra student among them.
"I can point out several reasons as to why this would be a bad idea," Bastion sternly stated, earning a slight wilting from the female in response. "... yet I scarce see you being the kind of person to do something uncouth and unwarranted to anyone. Not to mention the damage to your reputation, Jaden," Bastion looked at the two of them, noting the slight pleading look in her eyes as she held him tighter to her. Seeing this look from her, in addition to the situation at hand, he sighed irritably and shook his head.
"I'll vouch for you both. As far as anyone is concerned, he's with me and always has been," he conceded, jumping slightly as he felt the redhead shift and hug him fiercely. Unused to this kind of interaction, he awkwardly patted her back in response to the kind gesture. Pulling away from him, sensing his unease, Jenny bounced back to her original position and bowed to Bastion in thanks.
"I owe you big time, Bastion!" she grinned, turning to Jaden and toning her grin to a smile as she grabbed his wrist. "C'mon. Let's make our way, shall we?" she rhetorically asked, pulling him away. Bastion, Syrus, and a few other students watched as the celebrity got dragged out of the room by the smaller female. The former two stood there from the interaction, baffled at the sudden turn of events.
"She likes him, doesn't she?" Syrus asked, again with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer. with rockets taped on to the ends.
"Probably, though I can somewhat understand why," Bastion replied, shaking his head. "I'll see you later, Syrus!" he smiled, following the rowdy pair towards the Ra Dorm, wondering what these next three years will have in store for them all.
~ETK:R!~
(Time Skip: Ra Yellow Student Dorms)
Jaden whistled in awe as the three of them found themselves standing in front of the Ra Yellow Dorm. While nothing overly extravagant, it held its little charm. As the closest of the three dorms to the main Academy building, there was a sizable seating area just behind the dorm itself, and a small volleyball net a little further down. Much to fit the theme, the dorm exterior walls were painted in an egg-colored yellow, accompanied by a dark blue-turn-green rooftop.
The main feature of this was the view that the students could enjoy from the second-floor balcony: a sturdy, wooden balcony overlooking the cliff, for the students who would enjoy spending time gazing over the ocean; to watch the sunrise should they find themselves up at that time of the morning. Jaden immediately noted this, thankful for that little tidbit as he knew it would help him immensely during his sleepless nights. Plus the view was a huge bonus to the ambiance, and something he could share with his Heroes, too.
"What an incredible view!" Bastion complimented, walking up to the grounded fencing that skirted the edge of the cliff, stopping careless students from falling over to an untimely and gruesome death. Jaden nodded silently, captivated by the orange gleam that shone over the rippling waves; coating the sapphire-colored ocean in a rich amber cloak that contrasted both perfectly and beautifully.
"Yeah, it's beautiful," Jenny replied softly, smiling in delight as the three of them took a few moments to admire the setting sun before making their way inside the dorm with their luggage. Traveling down the maze-like halls, they soon found the rooms they were looking for; having stumbled across Bastion's assigned room. Much to their surprise, Jenny had been given the room next door, right at the end of the corridor.
"That's unusual. Usually, they would split the boys' and girls' dorms into separate sections of the building. I wonder why you had been given the room right next to mine?" Bastion commented, finding the turn of events unusual but not unwelcome. Jenny shrugged in response as she wasn't sure herself.
"Maybe they ran out of rooms in the girls' dorms and this was the only available place left for me to stay at? I mean, it's right at the end of the corridor so no one apart from you, or Jaden, would have any need to come down this far in the corridor. Buuuuuut knowing the typical boy behavior, I'll be keeping an eye out for any unwelcome advances~" she smirked dangerously, causing the two males to shiver in response. She laughed as she pulled Jaden's hand and opened the door to her- their new living arrangements.
The first moment she laid her eyes on the room, she smiled at the large space she got: completely bare except for a small-sized double bed, a bedside cabinet, a study desk, and a wardrobe; all made from a polished and smoothed Scandinavian Pinewood. Even the smell of the room made her smile brightly, the smell reminding her of fresh cotton as the fresh, crisp air traveled through the open windows. Letting the soft breeze ruffle against the immaculate white curtains, padded thick enough to prevent snoopers to look in on her, she took the fabric into her hand and cast another sweeping gaze over the room.
Sighing in contentment, she decided she loved her new room.
"Think this will be enough for the two of us?" she asked, turning to her roommate. Jaden, while still a little uneasy by the sudden chain of events, went over everything with a critical eye; nodding with a smile on his face, admiring the look and feel of the room. It had a soothing aura to it, and he felt relaxed here. Something he didn't know if it was due to the feel of the room itself, or the company within.
"It'll have to be, won't it?" he replied playfully with a grin on his face. "It's a good amount of space, though. We can make this work, for sure!" he smiled a bit more sincerely as he walked into the middle of the room and nodded. "Just need to do a few things~" Jaden commented, a playful glint in his eyes as he clicked his fingers.
To her shock, a small miasma appeared in front of his fingers before spreading out into a black and purple portal. Jaden turned and grinned when he saw his new roommate look at him in stunned wonder, playfully reaching over to close her mouth with his hand.
"You'll catch flies~"
She shook her head, bringing her out of her dazed state before watching his arm disappear into the portal, giddy and expectant on what will happen next. He poked his tongue out as he reached a little further into the portal, going so far as shoulder-deep before he found what he was looking for, smiling with a successful cry. She watched his other arm disappear into the portal as the portal widened a considerable amount before finding a white object being pulled out of it; his king-sized mattress with a clean white sheet already fitted on it. She couldn't hold it in and burst out laughing at the sight that reminded her of an anime in which this would happen.
Watching on in awe, as he reached back in and pulled out two thickened pairs (eight pillows in four separate pillowcases) of black and white pillows and a large king-size quilt before chucking them haphazardly on top of her bed. He reached once more into his pocket dimension and pulled out four large black sports bags, which he dumped next to the wardrobe before moving his arms back in the portal. She pointed towards the bags, silently asking for permission to check what they were; earning a small nod from Jaden, who turned his attention back to his searching.
Slightly opening the first bag's main zip, she noted it was full of his shirts and t-shirts; telling her the other bags must've held more of his clothes and had all been arranged and packed neatly. His chuckling brought her attention back to him, watching as he pulled out two large metallic briefcases, setting them down near his left leg.
"I'm sorry, I'm still getting my head around you bending the rules of reality and having your own dimension for everything," Jenny quipped playfully, crossing her arms under her, now, jacketless bosom. "What the heck is that?"
"Well," Jaden began as he continued to look for stuff to pull out. "When I entered the coma, I found out that I wasn't on my own. There was another soul inside of me, for want of a better description. It's similar to how Yugi, during his earlier years, would suddenly appear older when he dueled," he commented, propping his guitar gently against the wall.
"The spirit within me turned out to be an old King called Haou. I didn't know the name until years later when I talked to Yugi about it, but it was the same name as the Supreme King of Gentle Darkness," he shook his head, hearing the gasp from the woman behind him. "That was my response, too. Over the years, I've been learning to harness his power but I'm still limited to what I can do. It's still a pretty small amount of darkness I can safely control," he admitted with a sheepish grin, pausing his portal search.
"A small portion of energy, hmm?" she asked playfully, pressing herself against his back and leaning around to meet his gaze. "Does that also come under the quota of allowing a duel spirit a physical form long enough for a slow dance under the stars to a romantic song, hmmm~?" she grinned a shit-eating smile, Jaden sighing and grinning in response.
"Busted. That particular duel spirit is Yubel, my oldest and closest," he smiled, snapping his fingers and allowing her card to appear in his hand before letting Jenny look it over. "She has a history tied into Haou since he was the one who saved her. Nevertheless, she's been with me and taught me how to use the darkness safely. I wouldn't be here without her, honestly," he warmly smiled. "Sorry I didn't say anything about that, but I'm sure you understand."
From her place, hidden from him, said duel spirit smiled warmly; letting a few tears fall from her eyes at the warmth he held when talking about her.
"You said more than enough yesterday, Jay. I understand why you wouldn't talk about it so openly; just know that doesn't change my view on you, except for the better, and that your secret is safe with me. I just hope you take into consideration telling Bastion as well. Okay?" she gently coaxed, placing her finger on his lips and smiling at him once more. "So I'm gonna guess, that's one of the neat tricks you learned from Yubel?" she grinned.
"Yeah~" he smiled, admiring the spirit and the personality of the girl in front of him for accepting him so quickly and openly. It was scary, he would admit; finding someone you just recently met and having a few major secrets revealed, and them accepting them like you'd accept the fact that the sun was yellow and skies were blue.
"I remember the conversation we had about how stupid and petty it would be taking my sleeping equipment with me but I had the last laugh!" he grinned as he made his way towards the mattress, pushing it into the corner adjacent to the bottom of the bed. Chucking the pillows roughly into the corner, she noted he took care in spreading the quilt.
"By the way, you can have the wardrobe! It's your room, after all, and I'm fine with storing my clothes in my bags and just ironing them when I want to wear them. As you can see, I've finished making my bed!" he quipped, earning a snort of amusement.
"Thank you, I appreciate that. I wouldn't mind ironing your stuff if you want me to, okay? As a small thanks for letting me have the wardrobe~" she smiled fondly as she remembered the metal cases, earning an appreciative nod from him. "So what're the two cases for, Jay?"
"That would be two of the many briefcases of spare cards I've received over the years from my benefactor and my sponsor. I have a couple of decks I don't usually use but most of the cards are either duplicates or cards I just don't feel like using but keep anyway because of who they're from," he explained, watching her bring them both over before placing them in front of him, allowing her to take a seat on his mattress.
She reached past him and grabbed one of his pillows, holding it tightly against her body before her eyes widened yet again. "Oh my gosh, these are so soft! Where'd you get these?" she asked as she experimentally squeezed it for a few moments.
"Again, my sponsor and benefactor," Jaden grinned, chuckling at her fawning over a pair of soft pillows. "I got them from Pegasus who ordered them for me a year ago. Said it was a birthday present or something? Can't complain, though!" he replied as he grabbed the two suitcases. "Could I see your deck, for a minute?" he asked her suddenly, taking a hold of the two metal briefcases and pulling them towards him.
Wanting to do something small for her, a small thank-you for making him feel so comfortable around her. She turned to face him, a swift decline ready on her lips, but her gaze softened when she saw the thankfulness in his eyes and her smile warmed considerably.
"Sure thing, Jay," she whispered, reaching into her jacket pocket and fanning her cards across the mattress in a professional show of skill. Jaden glanced over the deck and nodded as he punched in the codes for the briefcases, revealing two stacked cases full of cards. "That's a lot of cards," she awed, impressed by the sheer amount of cards there were.
"I grew up in the shop which belonged to the grandfather of Yugi Moto himself, and I'm sponsored by the man who makes the cards; what do you think?" he questioned, winning a giggle from the girl. "I know that you're likely wanting to use your new Blue-Eyes' in your deck but at the moment? It'll throw the balance off a little since you'll more than likely make the mistake of over-focusing on the new cards, neglecting the cards you already have," he explained, earning a guilty look from the redhead across from him.
"It's okay! What we can do is to try and add some more components to the deck that will add a small boost to the new cards yet also have enough versatility to work for the old deck as well!" he smiled, the two of them working on rebuilding her deck from scratch, showing her what each card did and how it works in combos.
"Jay?" she softly interrupted him, halfway through building her deck up and taking notes of everything she's learning from him. "I don't mean to impose myself on you, any more than I have already but, could you show me a few things in dueling?" she poked her fingers together. "I'd like to think I'm okay at dueling but I feel there's something that I'm lacking."
"You're not too far off, believe it or not," he responded quickly, earning her attention. "You need to realize there's no formula for crossing that level from an amateur to a professional; it's down to confidence, flair, and the ability to control a duel, and not let yourself be controlled.
Mostly? Your style is what gives you that edge, plus believing in your deck and that it'll make an incredible move and help you out when you so desperately want it! You saw it happen during your entrance duel, and you'll keep discovering that the deck and the spirits within are an extension of you, much like your arm~" he smiled as he repeated the same words Yugi had said to him many years ago.
"But I can show you a few tricks and I'll help you out with your skills, for sure!"
Her smile widened, her eyes turning watery as she leaned over and hugged him sincerely. Feeling the embrace returned in kind, she pulled back and wiped her tears away. Now finding herself with the best roommate anyone could ask for, they resumed fine-tuning her deck ready for what may come her way.
~ETK:R!~
(Time Skip: Obelisk Blue Dueling Arena)
The two of them had spent the past hour and a half working on Jenny's deck before they both agreed that they needed some air, also wanting to familiarize themselves with their new surroundings. She was more than satisfied with the new cards she received from Jaden, having discovered the potential combos she can now play with and worked out some impressive combos that even Jaden admitted were incredible! That alone spiked her confidence way high!
She promised him she would repay the favor somehow and adamantly insisted that she should, despite his protests and his chivalry. Jaden, not wanting an argument with a woman after experiencing those with his duel spirits, simply accepted it and let the matter drop, much to her delight!
The two had changed into their casual clothes for the evening and decided to walk about together. They had asked Bastion if he wanted to come along but he respectfully declined, stating he was working on an idea he had on the ferry over. Leaving him to his project, the two continued on their way and made some small talk with one another, examining the map of the campus for noteworthy places.
While reading the map, the pair stumbled across a hall which was used for duels, if the holographic platform was something to go by. The Ra pair let their curiosity get the better of them as they walked further in to examine the area.
"Wow! Not bad, huh?" she asked him as she leaped up the stairs and spun around a few times, taking in the sights from the stage. "Is this what it's like to be in the Pro-Circuit? Standing in the spotlight, dueling in front of thousands of fans and putting on a show for them all, while trying your best to win against other skilled duelists?" she asked honestly.
Jaden let out a hearty laugh, admiring the childlike wonder in her words and the way her eyes lit up. He watched her twirl around a few times, seeing a hint of himself in her the first time he took to the stage. "The Pro-Circuit, huh?" he repeated, sliding his hands into his pockets, smiling at the question. The nostalgia made him appreciate the opportunity he had gotten all those years ago, as his feet took him towards her.
"It's so much fun and you get a real thrill out of dueling in front of thousands of aspiring fans and duelists alike, but it can be a bit demanding at times! You always make sure you're performing well, winning duels, and making it far in tournaments. Mostly for the sake of publicity and promoting your sponsors but it's a give-and-take between you both. Of course, it depends what kind of sponsor you have backing you up, and what benefits you get from them in return for what you can give them, ya know?" Jaden grinned, bumping his hip into hers as he passed her.
"I know some top-end duelists who have a sponsorship with Kaiba, so he provides them with the latest technology and custom duel-disk designs that can't be found in shops, or before they're even released! So if you win with one of them on your arm, they'll want one!" he continued, shaking his arm to draw her attention to the custom duel-disk he received from Seto Kaiba, himself.
With Pegasus? You get a steady stream of cards and, if you're very good, he'll create exclusive new cards for you to enhance your deck and limited-edition cards for a job well done! Again, very give-and-take!" Jaden explained, giving his experiences and knowledge on the circuit to his companion.
"That's amazing! I really envy you, Jay; being successful in dueling, having everything you want after what you've been through, it must feel so nice," she replied, taking on a sad smile.
"Not really," he replied, shocking her as he looked up distantly into the stands. "Yeah, it's good and all but there are things you can't duel for or simply buy with money. The best things you gotta be patient for, yanno?" he returned the sad smile, looking into the distance soon after.
"Growing up as an orphan, I've always grown up with a sense of loneliness because I never had any family members or anyone related. I mean, I had a brother figure many years ago but we separated after I was kicked out of the orphanage I stayed in. Last I heard, he headed somewhere else to pursue his dream in dueling as well," he turned to face her, gazing into her shimmering amber orbs. Walking over, he gently placed his hand on her head and rubbed it softly, earning a small smile and nuzzle.
"To be honest, if it wasn't for my ability to interact with my spirits? I would have gone insane by now and I likely wouldn't be here right now," he morbidly revealed, earning a shocked gasp from Jen, clicked on to what he meant and flinching under his hand.
"If there's anything I wanted the most? It would be someone who could look past my fame and fortune. Someone who can take the burden of knowing my darkest secrets and not run away from the weight of them. Someone I can open up my weaknesses to and find someone who accepts me for who I am, flaws and all. I want to find someone who sees me.
Not the Elemental King, not the Supreme King, just as plain ol' Jaden Hoshiryu Yuki, a guy who loves dueling and wants to experience the wonders of what each day will bring me! Someone like you, honestly," he professed shyly, looking away and missing the atomic blush on her face from his honest response.
"Awww, look at the lovebirds! Isn't it romantic?" a new voice spoke up, laced with sarcasm. It had the intended effect as both Ra students spun around to the new voice and turned serious as the two pulled away from each other. Turning out to be the boy with the glasses that was with Chazz back in the entrance duel examinations, Jaden's eyes narrowed as he recalled the face. Footsteps could be heard as another person approached their position.
"Whatever! Like I care what these 'Rejects' do in their own time! All I care about is that they take their sob stories and scram! This is the Obelisk Dueling Arena and you're not welcome here!" another voice spoke up, revealing the ravenette himself. Looking at them like they were beneath him, Jaden's eyes narrowed as he remembered who the ravenette was and stepped forward.
"So you're the Chazz Princeton I keep hearing about?" Jaden asked disdainfully. Chazz's eyes narrowed slightly at the tone before it disappeared.
"What's it to you, you Reject?" he retorted back, smirking.
"Nothing, really? Just curious as to how far that stick is in your ass!" he commented, leaning around slightly as if he was searching for the said stick. Chazz fumed in response as he growled at the audacity of this kid making a mockery out of him.
"And Reject? Is that the best insult you can make, you obnoxious Obelisk?" he replied, getting a snicker from the girl with him.
"W-Who the fuck do you think you are, talking to me like that!?" he snapped, rage etched into his face as he took harsh steps towards Jaden. Even standing in front of him and staring him down, Jaden had faced worse from Mokuba, of all people.
"Me? Oh, I'm Jaden Yuki. I'm the guy who destroyed Crowler two days ago, remember? Doctor in Dueling Techniques? Head of the Obelisk Boys' Dorm? Ring any bells?" he taunted, smirking as a little bit of his sarcastic side came loose while Chazz's face grew darker before his eyes snapped widen in recognition.
"C-Chazz! That's him! He's the Elemental King!" his accomplice pointed out, stunning the ravenette a tad too late as he took a few hurried steps back from Jaden. Pointing straight at him with a paling face and dilated pupils, he shook for a few moments from the revelation.
"That's you!?" Chazz asked. Jaden could see the hesitation from both the Obelisk students so he crossed his arms and stared at them both.
"That's me. Now, what do you want from us?" Jaden asked as Jenny moved closer to him in reaction, not wanting to get involved anymore. Chazz managed to find his second wind as he coughed into his hands, his snobbish attitude returned as he waved dismissively at him as he closed his eyes.
"Heh, I just wanted to see if you live up to your name or if you're just a reject who's a wannabe duelist! How about you put your money where your mouth is and show me how you duel?" Chazz taunted, excited at the idea of dueling a professional duelist and seeing how he fares up against one. Unfortunately, a certain author had other arrangements...
"What's going on here?" a familiar feminine voice called out, another pair of Obelisk students making their way towards them. Jaden turned his head, spotting the two students that had watched his duel from one of the upper balconies, and relaxed slightly.
"Hey, Alexis~" Chazz smiled 'charmingly' at the blonde. "I was just asking these two to leave here but he insisted that he'd want to duel me," he commented, smirking at her. "You come here to watch me wipe the floor with this loser?" he waggled his eyebrows. Having missed the response from his recipient, he missed the incoming fist; receiving a punch to the face that sent him to the ground with no effort. She walked past him, letting her eyes land on the brunette, and stopped just in front of him.
Allowing an amused smirk to show on her face, she cocked her hip and crossed her arms in an authoritative stance. She didn't even look back to address the male she just decked in the face and kept her gaze on Jaden.
"Whatever, Chazz," she dismissed casually, keeping her attention on him. "So you're the Elemental King, hmm~? It's an honor to meet you in person, Jaden! Alexis Rhodes," she introduced herself as she extended her hand. Seeing the playful glint in her eyes, he snorted in amusement and took her hand in stride. Glad to know not all Obelisk students were born without manners, he played along and kissed the knuckle-studs on her gloved hands.
He winked in response, seeing the shocked response from her since she hadn't expected that kind of reaction from him.
"Pleasure's all mine, Alexis!" he grinned, earning a small blush and an amused shake of the head from the blonde. "So, who's your friend? I saw him watching the duel but he left before introductions," he asked, shocking said male since he didn't think he'd be caught watching the duel.
"Zane Truesdale. I'm a fan of your dueling style and like Lex, a pleasure to meet you in person," he complimented, smiling slightly and nodding in respect. Smirking in response, Jaden nodded back as respectfully, acknowledging the gesture. Jaden then paused for a moment, the words now clicking in his brain as both he and Jenny looked towards one another before turning back to him.
"Truesdale? You related to Syrus in any way?" Jaden asked, trailing off at the end in case it was a sensitive topic.
"I'm his older brother," Zane commented, nodding. "Rumour is, he's been given a new deck of Spellcasters from a friend of yours. He's going as far as claiming that it was Yugi Moto, himself, who let him borrow his deck?" he asked back, skeptical about the story.
"Yep! Pulled some Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girls out of the packs he had gotten, alongside some more noteworthy Spellcasters which Yugi uses in his deck. Ended up giving his deck to Syrus as a loan until he was comfortable enough to build a deck for himself! After that, Yugi would ask for his deck back!" Jaden confirmed, Jenny nodding as she moved from behind Jaden and stood beside him.
"H-He wasn't lying?" Zane recoiled slightly, shocked that his younger brother got to meet the King of Games, himself!
"Nope! Jenny begged him for a photo with Yugi and me," Jaden chuckled, wincing playfully at the jab to his rib from said female. He turned to her and noted the blush on her face, no doubt from embarrassment, and quickly patted her head in response. Accepting the apology head pats, she pulled out her phone and searched through her pictures, flipping the phone around to show the two new Obelisk students.
Both Zane and Alexis were stunned to find out that the story was true, seeing the nine figures in the photo all grouped with smiles on their faces. Alexis regained her bearings first, shaking her head to get back on track.
"That aside, I'm sorry to break up the conversation fellas-" she started before a cough directed her attention to the other female present, earning a slightly sheepish look from Alexis.
"-and lady, sorry! I take it Chazz didn't tell you that dueling past curfew is a serious offense and is punishable? Not a good record to have on your first day here, hmm~?" Alexis asked, crossing her arms under her impressive DD-Cup bust. Jenny lowered her gaze to her own, pressing the palms of her hands over her own, pouting in jealousy of the size and bounce of the Obelisk's chest. She narrowed her eyes, promising to do her best to improve her own and show her up one day!
Though, it'd be safe to refrain from the thoughts in her head right now. So we'll move swiftly on!
"Nope, no one told me a thing! Jen and I were taking a stroll to familiarize ourselves with the school grounds and the facilities here when these two clowns just appeared and interrupted us! Chazz began bad-mouthing me and challenged me to a duel!" Jaden explained, Chazz, having recovered during the conversation, began to pale under her glare.
"Oh, he did, did he?" Alexis commented with a devilish grin on her face. "Well, if he's offering a challenge; I suggest you give him what he wants, Jaden~" she hinted, excited to see him in action once more, and a lot more up-close than the first time around.
"I'll authorize this duel so you won't get into any trouble, and I'll report it to Chancellor Sheppard in the morning~" she winked playfully as she moved to the side of the stage, while everyone gave the two opponents room in prep for the duel. Zane shook his head in amusement, stepping on a switch to activate the field beneath them.
"Yanno, that's not such a bad idea~" he commented, grinning back at her. "I may as well show him that my seventy-eight official wins weren't just for show. You ready to play with the big boys, Chazzy-chan?" he taunted, getting the response he wanted, watching him growl darkly once more at the brunette.
"You're gonna pay for that, bastard!" Chazz snapped back, both placing their decks in their duel disks. Alexis shook her head, lifting her arm into the air, and bringing it down.
"Go!"
~Chazz: 4000~
~Jaden: 4000~
"My move!" Chazz yelled, taking the first turn of the duel and drawing his first card. "Heh, too easy! I summon my Chthonian Soldier in attack mode but don't worry! He won't be on his own for very long as I play my spell card, Chthonian Rally Cry!" Chazz smirked as he discarded two cards from his hand, activating the in-built card scanner in the duel disk; pushing out the two cards he needed.
"I can send two cards to my graveyard to Special Summon two more Chthonian Soldiers from my deck!"
Taking said cards, he placed all three copies down, watching as all three copies of the same monster appeared in front of Chazz, blocking his face from view.
(Chthonian Soldier: Warrior / Effect / Dark / 4* / 1200 ATK / 1400 DEF) (x3)
"Next, I play another spell card, Chthonian Alliance! I can choose one of my Chthonian monsters on the field, and they gain a bonus eight-hundred points for every copy of it on the field, itself included!" Chazz sneered, sliding one card face down, watching it materialize on the field. "I play a face down and end my turn. Your move, slacker!" he taunted, growling as he watched Jaden roll his eyes in response.
(Chthonian Soldier: Attack Boost: 1200 + (800 x 3) = 3600 ATK)
"My draw!" Jaden yelled, drawing his first card, and glanced down at his hand. Looking puzzled, he quickly looked over the cards before his eyes snapped open in shock and awe. Double-checking to make sure he wasn't missing anything, he laughed loudly and gained everyone's attention. Looking over his shoulder, looking out for the redhead standing just behind him, he allowed a confident smirk to appear on his face while lifting a lone finger into the air. "One!"
Time paused for her, her eyes widening in shock as she would witness a rarity in the dueling world-
"An OTK!? No way!" Jenny squealed excitedly, hopping on her feet in delight as she readied herself to commit this to memory.
"An OTK?" Alexis asked from the sidelines, confused by the terminology. She turned to face Zane but was surprised to find his eyes had widened slightly. What scared her, even more, was the exciting smirk that appeared on Zane's face. He glanced over at Alexis and chuckled lowly.
"It means a One-Turn Kill. It means that if Jaden's right about this and that nothing stops any of his following moves? It means that Jaden has won the duel on his first turn!" Zane explained, excitement tinging his voice whilst curious as to what Jaden's about to do. Alexis' eyes widened as her head snapped back to the duel, secretly wanting to see if Jaden could humiliate Chazz by beating him in a single turn. Allowing a grin to appear on her face, she crossed her arms and waited for the killer combo.
"Y-You're lying! You can't possibly beat me on your first go!" Chazz stammered, paling a little. Jaden smirked devilishly in response as he rubbed his nose with his thumb, a small cocky tick he picked up from a certain Brooklyn-based duelist.
"Oh I can, and I will!" Jaden replied confidently. "First off, I play my trusty spell card, Polymerization! I'm going to fuse my Elemental Heroes Sparkman, and Wildheart to create one of my lesser-known fusions: my Elemental Hero Gaia!" Jaden grinned as the two duel spirits appeared behind him. They both bumped fists with one another before flying into the swirling vortex that appeared above.
A few seconds passed before a bulking metallic figure burst out of the sky and landed in front of Jaden protectively: a gargantuan, mechanized soldier that was covered in a thick, pearlescent-painted, black and silver armor; decorated with red spherical jewels that acted as the power source for the suit, and for the menacing energy blasters that had been grafted into the gauntlets.
(Elemental Hero Gaia: Warrior / Fusion / Effect / Earth / 6* / 2200 ATK / 2600 DEF)
"HA! That's your big move? Your pathetic card is still weaker than my monster!" Chazz laughed cruelly, assuming that Jaden was all for show. Jaden chuckled in response, snapping Chazz out of his laughter.
"Not yet, no! You see, thanks to his effect, on the turn he's Fusion Summoned? I can choose one of your monsters and half its attack. The awesome bit? I take the difference and I can add it onto my Gaia's!" Jaden smirked, cutting Chazz's momentum dead.
"So thanks for the set-up, and I'll take the middle of your three soldiers!" Jaden pointed to the middle of the three; watching on as Gaia jumped over to his target. Placing his hand on the monster's head, a few seconds passed before the chosen monster grew thinner, while the red lights on Gaia's armor grew more prominent and sinister.
(Chthonian Soldier: Attack Penalty: (3600 / 2) = 1800 ATK)
(Elemental Hero Gaia: Attack Boost: (2200 + 1800) = 4000 ATK)
"Now to finish this off? I'll activate a nice little addition to my deck from two days ago; my Trailblazing Hero spell card! As my Gaia is a level six monster, I have to pay a whopping three-thousand life points! Not exactly the cheapest of card effect costs I had to make but the effect is worth its weight in gold!" Jaden smirked, his body glowing in a gold aura before being absorbed into his duel disk.
~Jaden: (4000 - 3000) = 1000~
Trailblazing Hero: Pay five-hundred life points per Level of chosen 'Elemental Hero' Card.
"Bit of a shame since I wanted a clean win but this will be worth it! Since I now get a sweet effect in return, Gaia? Attack, and end this thing!" Jaden smiled, throwing his arm out over the field and giving the signal to attack. Gaia's form began to move, acknowledging the command and flexing his metallic fist ready.
"You idiot! Even if you destroy my Soldiers, you take the same amount of damage as me!" Chazz laughed maniacally. "Guess your title was all for show!"
"I know about your soldier's card effect, Chazz! You see, I was a little bit naughty not fully explaining what my spell card does~" Jaden smirked, earning everyone's attention. "You see, I choose a monster card I control with 'Elemental Hero' in their name. I have to pay five-hundred life points per level of the card I've chosen. So since Gaia is a level six monster? I gotta give up three thousand of my life points. However, in return? My Gaia can attack your life points directly this turn only! Now, send him home with Giga Smash!"
Jaden grinned as Gaia bumped its knuckles together, causing red sparks to surge over its armor before smashing one of its metallic fists into the ground. The reaction caused the ground to split from the point of impact, everyone watching the wave of broken earth making its way underneath the three soldiers and directly at Chazz.
"NOOOOOO!" Chazz yelled as he was blasted backward from the attack, rolling across the stage several until he came to a stop, groaning in pain and humility.
~Chazz: (4000 - 4000) = 0~
Attack to Life Points directly from Elemental Hero Gaia.
"Just to add insult to injury? I play the last quick-play spell card in my hand, Sebek's Blessing! All the damage you just got dealt is added to my life points~" Jaden smirked, bathed in a white glow while the visage of a crocodile sage hovered behind him. Spinning its staff a few times before tapping it on Jaden's head, everyone watched his life points climb back up and beyond what he started with.
~Jaden: (1000 + 4000) = 5000~
Sebek's Blessing: Gain Life Points equal to total damage dealt with your opponent.
"And that is how we kick it in the Pro Leagues, Chump," Jaden commented, making his way over to Jenny and the others, leaving his opponent to deal with the loss. He walked up to the others, who stood there stunned at how fast he defeated the 'best' duelist in Obelisk. "So, what do you think?" he asked, scratching his head sheepishly, causing a small laugh to escape Alexis' lips before she looked at him with respect in her eyes.
"It was quick?" Alexis grinned playfully. "That was a good move, Jay!" she complimented as she shook his hand, smiling at him and receiving one in kind.
"Minimum effort," Zane started, smiling at the brutality of play.
"For maximum output, I know~" Jaden smiled, shaking Zane's hand. "Welp! I think I've caused enough mischief for one day, so we'll be heading back. Catch you guys around?" Jaden asked as he and Jenny began making their way.
"Yeah! See you!" Alexis nodded, smiling. Zane nodded, watching as Jaden saluted with his index and middle fingers before walking away with his roommate. Alexis watched the retreating frames of the two Ra students as she got a good feeling about them both; him especially. 'Just like Crowler but better; five cards and down! It's amazing how well his cards work for him. He'll definitely freshen things up, for sure!' she thought, smiling to herself.
"Come on, Alexis. Time we head back as well," Zane motioned the two of them leaving a disheveled Chazz on the floor, not bothering to help him out as the two exited the dueling hall.
~ETK:R!~
(Time Skip: Ra Dorm Dining Hall)
It was nearly nine in the evening by the time Jaden and Jenny returned to the dorm, walking straight into a waiting Bastion who stood in the entrance hall with crossed arms and an impatiently tapping foot. He had asked the pair where they'd been off to, before having the entire replay of events from Jenny, much to the embarrassment of Jaden who decided to simply let her speak.
After a light playful chiding and amused grin, the three of them made their way into the dining area; where the food for the welcoming feast was being prepared. Soft chandeliers hung from the ceiling and coated the room in a soft and distinguished glow, that gave a homely feel to the room; enchanting the various platters and dishes that were laid out before them all.
The aroma of the food tempts the students with their delicious scents and makes most of them drool in anticipation of the first delicious bite. Bastion was immensely looking forward to the meal, Jenny was trying to remain calm but her bouncing leg betrayed her calm visage...
Jaden?
"C'mon! Can we start already?" he whispered towards Jenny and Bastion. "I'm really hungry and I swear I heard the fried shrimp calling my name!" he added before he narrowed his eyes and looked behind him. "Unless Trix or Yomi is playing tricks on me again," he narrowed his eyes. Both Bastion and Jenny turned to where he was looking and were surprised to find Jaden's group of Heroes lounging about, likely looking to get in on this delicious feast also!
"Nothing to do with us!" the two female duel spirits replied in sync, grinning in response to how desperate Jaden was getting.
"Dwayne?" he asked, turning his attention to the only colored duel spirit in his team. Having decided to wear a simple black tank-top and a pair of white khaki three-quarter shorts and a pair of spotless white trainers, he stood out among the heroes for his bulky frame and not the color of his skin.
He didn't discriminate. A friend tried true, was he.
"Not me, J-Man! I'm not getting involved with the shit that happened last time with Wolf!" Clayman grinned, shaking his head and hands, wanting nothing to do with it.
"I. Regret. Nothing." his Wildheart spoke up, grinning smugly as Jaden glared daggers at him; with Jaden remembering the event and also remembering payback was needed.
"Any of you guys?" Jaden asked, much to the amusement of his spirits.
"Nope!/Nu-uh!/No way!/Woof!" they all replied in the negative, to the amusement of both Bastion and Jennifer.
As soon as they replied, a clap alerted them towards a middle-aged man that purposely walked out of the kitchen area, wearing a standard Ra Yellow blazer and a pair of cream trousers. His shiny, long black hair had been tied into a tail, which went past his shoulders and down his back; and a mustache that reminded Jaden of a Spanish Duelist he once faced...
... or was it Italian?
He May not even have been a duelist. Might be a film he watched once.
Zorro? Something like that.
"Good evening, students! My name is Professor Alejandro Sartyr, and I am the headteacher of the Ra Yellow Dormitory! I am also the Dorm's Head-Chef and am the one who prepared every single glorious dish of food in front of you; so please enjoy yourselves!" the professor bowed. Jaden and Jenny swiftly gave a quick thanks before shoveling heaps of food onto their place and devouring the food just as quickly.
They got some unusual looks from the other students but they simply passed it off as compensation for the long trip they all had, granting them all an excuse to follow their example and loosen their restraint, and gorge themselves as well!
"It amazes me to no end to see people eat so much, yet it doesn't affect their figure in the least," Bastion mused to himself as he helped himself to some lobster. "Those with high metabolisms are lucky," he ruefully smiled.
~End of Part II!~
~Chapter End!~
~Original Card List!~
Trailblazing Hero (Spell)
Select one face-up monster you control with 'Elemental Hero' in its name. Pay life points equal to the selected monster's total level stars times five hundred. The selected monster can attack your opponent directly this turn. If so, destroy it during your end phase.
Chthonian Rally Cry (Spell)
When you control a monster with 'Chthonian' in its name, you can discard it from your hand to the GY. Special summon as many copies of the chosen monster from your hand, Deck, or GY, equal to the number of cards discarded.
~Duel Spirit Identities - The Heroes! (Part I!)~
Something I'm keeping from the original ETK fic!
As much of an effort, it'll be from time to time for adding so many characters to the fic, it's because the duel spirits have their own identities is that inspired me to write the fanfic in the first place!
For those wondering, it's "Supreme King Jaden" by SuperNeos2. Not only do I thank them for letting me write off of their ideas in the first place, but also the one to thank for allowing me to use the concept of a Sly Cooper deck in which Jaden's twin, Jason, uses in their fic! So a lot of props go to them for being one of the main inspirations for this fic!
For the final time: Bladedge is Female. I know it's canonically a male, and that the Japanese translation dictates as such. I. DO. NOT. CARE. She is now female! Bite me! xD
Elemental Hero Avian = Avi / "Feathers"
Elemental Hero Bladedge = Stephanie / "Steph"
Elemental Hero Bubbleman = Marc / "Marco"
Elemental Hero Burstinatrix = Burstinatrix / "Trix"
Elemental Hero Cosmic Champion = Jason / "Jace" (Also a reference to SuperNeos2's fic~)
Elemental Hero Clayman = Dwayne / "Rocky"
Elemental Hero Heat = Nick / "Nicky"
Elemental Hero Lady Heat = Kiyomi / "Yomi"
Elemental Hero Necroshade = Danny / "Phantom"
Elemental Hero Sparkman = Jack / "Sparky"
Elemental Hero Supernova = Ayumi / "Yumi", "Yu"
Elemental Hero Wildheart = Wolf / "Mutt"
Wroughtweiler = "Nate"
Yubel = Yubel / "Yube", "Yubes"
And there we go! Chapter two is fully down, and some more major adjustments! Pleased with how this one has gone and everything already feels so much nicer and cleaner! While likely edits to be done by my wonderful beta, I can at least say I've improved my writing skills!
Still, so much more to be done, though!
But, a quick shoutout to DA Exodus; who has been an absolute gem and gathered up all the OC cards used throughout the original version! I'll still need to sit down and work through some deck compilations for a majority of the characters, but other thanks to him for giving me a structure deck to work with for Syrus' new Spellcaster deck!
Trial and error, otherwise, for the remaining duelists!
For now, it's close to 3 am and I need to be up in seven hours! Time for this fox to bow out and sleep! Ja ne, mina! :3
