The Sweetest Goodbye

Sasuke sat in a chair in his room, looking out the window, watching the sea of sakura blossoms, and clutched at his chest, breath labored.

Today was his birthday.

Naruto's.

The Uchiha sighed and walked out of the room. Grabbing a box off the entryway table, he left his house not even bothering to lock the door. It wasn't even like anyone ever came to visit him anymore. Not since Naruto left.

Walking through the village, Sasuke ignored anyone and everyone until he heard a very familiar voice.

"Sasuke-kun!"

He turned to see Sakura, Kakashi and Iruka moving toward him.

"Hello." He said, nodding his head at them.

"Are you going to see Naruto?" Iruka asked.

"Yeah."

"We went to see him earlier today. We didn't know if you would go or not, so-" Kakashi started, but Sasuke interrupted him.

"No, it's okay. I planned to go by myself anyway."

Iruka and Sakura got the hint right away and Sakura spoke up.

"Well, we'll let you get on your way then, Sasuke-kun. See you later."

Sasuke gave a small smile and then turned and walked toward the forest where Naruto was.

"Hey, Naruto," Sasuke said, stepping up to a giant oak tree and sinking down in exhaustion beside a tombstone.

"Happy birthday, Dobe." Sasuke set the box he had down by the stone and smiled, clutching at his chest again.

He half-expected to see those sky-blue eyes narrow and Naruto's lower lip stick out in a pout at the nickname.

"I miss you, you know," he said, " I still remember what you said to me before you died."

His eyes filled slowly with tears as he remembered Naruto laying in his arms, covered in blood.

"I said I loved you," a bright voice chirped, "And you said that you knew, you always knew."

Sasuke's eyes widened and he looked up.

There he was. Standing there in that ridiculous orange jumpsuit with a smile on his tan face.

"Naruto?" his voice was hoarse.

The blond dropped to his knee's in front of Sasuke and reached out, wiping away his tears.

"It's time for you to stop hurting, Sasuke. It's time to come home."

Sasuke felt Naruto's lips press softly against his and he felt himself lifted.

When the kiss broke, he looked down at his body, then looked at Naruto.

"Can we go now?"

Naruto smiled and nodded, wrapping his arms around Sasuke.

The last Uchiha laid his head on Naruto's shoulder and smiled.

"I love you."
