Chapter 2 Entering Jubilife

As they arrive at the gate, they hear the Professor talking to the guards, who are wearing kimonos like they are from the past, which is actually true. "Thank you for your tireless work keeping us safe, my good guardsmen! This young man and woman were of great assistance to me and my Pokemon, so I hope you'll forgive my bringing him into the village for a bit!"

The guards just nod as Laventon calls Ash and Serena to come with him. As they walk inside, they can see a lot of villagers who are wearing old clothes as well. They start to get worried as they are the ones who wear causal clothes from the future.

"This way, if you please!" Laventon says as they walk behind the Professor, he says, "Jubilife Village! It's come a long way thanks to the fine people of the Galaxy Expedition Team! This road we're on now is known to the locals as Canala Avenue."

"Canalave City had a gym you know." Ash whispers to Serena. "I wonder if people from the past have those as well."

"I don't think so...I mean, there are not many Pokemon in this area..." Serena adds.

"The village was built scarcely two years ago...There's much to do yet and not many to do it." Laventon adds. "And since we know so little of the local Pokemon, people hesitate to set foot outside the village."

Ash and Serena notice the villagers are also whispering to themselves, maybe they are talking bad things from them considering their outfits, or other stuff like how they are outsiders.

"Now, that impressive building up ahead of us is Galaxy Hall - headquarters for this entire outfit!" Laventon points as Ash and Serena look at what he is pointing. They notice the symbol as Ash feels a little unease.

"Oh, botheration! I'd almost forgotten! I need to go and report that we successfully recovered the escaped Pokemon! Might I ask you to wait for me at the canteen?"

Ash and Serena can only nod, but Serena asks, "But where is the canteen?"

"It's just past this bridge here, then to the left. The wallflower, it's called!" Professor Laventon then rushes off.

"Now we are alone again. Let's try to progress everything." Ash says, "So after we died, we woke up in the Sinnoh Region that was thousands of years before we live in."

"And we have to help the Professor to capture every single one of the Pokemon, so that we can have a chance to go back home." Serena says. "And that's why we are here, the Jubilife Village?"

"So this is what it is before Jubilife City..." Ash says, "But that Galaxy Expedition Team logo...it somehow reminds me of Team Galactic..."

"Team Galactic? Is it something similar to Team Rocket or Team Flare?" Serena asks.

"You can say so, their leader Cyrus wants to destroy the whole world and use Dialga and Palkia's powers to create a new one, very weird indeed." Ash sighs as they manage to reach the canteen. But just as they arrive, they are stopped by an old man who is standing in front of the canteen. He looks at them suspiciously and says, "Well now, aren't you awfully suspicious? The Wallflower's for Galaxy Team folk only. We don't have seats for outsiders. Move along!"

"Sorry if we become a burden." Ash says as they quickly step backward from the canteen. Serena says, "I guess that we are in the past, that means not all people here are as friendly as the Professor..."

"I guess so...but the Professor wants us to be here, and yet he won't let us in...what are we going to do then?" Ash asks.

"Who are you two? I've never seen anyone dressed like you are." Just then, they hear a voice as they turn around, they see a girl with a beanie and a heavy outfit walking towards them. Ash gasps as he asks, "Dawn?"

"It is dusk, not dawn you know." The girl sighs, "What if you were attacked by a Pokemon? You'd be minced meat in those flimsy clothes!"

"That was really exaggerating..." Serena mutters.

"If the guard let you through, you must have ties with somebody in the village...Perhaps you've met Professor Laventon? He's a scholar from a faraway place. His Pokemon do get away from him at times, though. It makes me a bit worried for him...I suppose I'm hardly one to talk - I've had some trouble with Pokemon myself."

"What do you mean by that?" Ash asks with confusion.

"I was hit by a Pokemon move called Thunder Shock not long ago and had to take to my bed." The girl frowns. "But the professor...well...I do wonder how long he'll last."

Serena whispers to Ash, "Okay, it is either the Pokemon are more ferocious in the past, or that people from the past have a weaker immune system to it...I mean, we have been hit by Thunderbolt a lot of times."

"You're right about that." Ash sighs. "Maybe we really need to survive in this world..."

"Unfortunately it's just as Akari says...I'm a clumsy sort of fellow, to put it mildly!" They turn around to see Professor Laventon walking towards them.

"Professor!" Akari gasps.

"But everything will be quite all right now! Ash and Serena here have agreed to help us with our Pokedex!" Laventon smiles.

Akari doesn't seem to be convinced, and she asks, "Excuse me? You plan to appoint them to the Survey Corps? You can't just slap a badge on whoever you like without Captain Cyllene's permission!"

"I allow it." At this moment, Cyllene walks towards them, and Ash gasps as she looks really much like Cyrus, except that he can tell that the person in front of him is a female, and maybe she really is an ancestor of Cyrus.

"Captain Cyllene?" Akari asks.

"Assuming the individuals can contribute to the Survey Corps, that is." Cyllene says. "I am the captain of the Galaxy Team's Survey Corps. You may call me Cyllene."

"Okay, I'm Ash, and this is Serena, my girlfriend." Ash says.

"Professor Laventon has told me how you helped secure his Pokemon when they slipped his control. And now it seems he would like us to feed and house you in exchange for your ongoing labor." Cyllene looks at them and she continues, "Since you two are dating, so you look to be 15 or so. Quite old enough to work for your keep. But we can't simply take on strangers who wander in among us, without any idea of their skills or origins."

"Then what should we do?" Serena asks.

"Tomorrow we shall see if you can prove yourself worthy." Cyllene says.

"Oho! A most reasonable decision, Captain." Laventon nods. "Now, would you care to join us for a meal? I'm sure you've got plenty of questions for our visitors!"

"This is quite alright. I prefer to eat alone so I might appreciate my meals without distraction." Cyllene then walks into the canteen as the others just stare at where she was standing.

"Aloof as always, I see." Laventon sighs, "Well, no matter! The rest of us can share a meal and some pleasant conversation, then, eh?"

He yells to the old man who just chased them away, "Beni, old chum! The usual potato mochi, if you please-but make it for four today!"

After they sit down outside the canteen, Beni brings the food to them. Ash and Serena like the taste of the food, and Laventon says, "Wonderful stuff, Beni! Much obliged. Your potato mochi never fail to please!"

Beni nods as he leaves, and Akari asks, "Professor Laventon, where exactly did you meet our...visitors here?"

"Ah, well, you know of that great hole in the sky? The one people call the space-time rift?" Laventon asks. "Our new friends fell right out of it!"

"You can't be serious." Akari stares at the Professor, who turns serious, "Come now-I am a scientist! My job is to observe and explain any and all phenomena. I concern myself only with facts!"

He turns to Ash and Serena, "Now, you already know there are many Pokemon here in the Hisui region..."

"Hisui? I thought this was Sinnoh?" While the Professor is talking, Serena whispers to Ash.

"Maybe it is the old name? I mean, we are in thousands of years before our time." Ash whispers back.

"Our job as the Survey Corps is to research them and find out what kind of creatures they are!" Akari nods.

"Well, we know this much..." Laventon says, "Pokemon are terrifying creatures! It's all but impossible to know what kinds of powers they might possess or what sorts of wonderous things they can do. But that's where you two will come in!"

"How so?" Akari asks.

"They successfully caught three Pokemon! Three of them in quick order, you understand! Nobody in the Galaxy Team is capable of a feat such as that. This means we can finally begin our Pokemon research in earnest!"

"Three?! We have a hard enough time catching even one when wild Pokemon come after us..." Akari frowns.

"I guess we really are strong compared to others?" Serena whispers to Ash again, who shrugs back.

"Ah, well, to be perfectly fair, the Pokemon that fled to the beach weren't on the attack, and Serena here caught one while Ash caught two. The last one is their teamwork after all. You two are fearless enough to aim the Poke Ball well on those creatures."

Before they can say anything, they hear Beni muttering, "Does the Survey Corps really have the leeway to be enjoying a leisurely meal with these outsiders?"

"Excuse us?" Serena and Ash feel offended.

"Your captain just ordered 10 whole portions of potato mochi, you know. The slow progress on that Pokedex of yours clearly has her on edge." Beni shakes his head.

"I'm sure we'll start to rein in the good captain's stress eating soon enough." Laventon assures. "Now, have your fill, Ash, Serena! And think! If you two make it into the Galaxy Team, you'll never have to worry about a meal again. The team provides for all its members' needs-even if said members fell out of the sky!"

"I guess that's great." Ash says. "And those mochis are quite delicious indeed!"

"Indeed, the food was lovely. But more importantly...you do remember that you two have a trial to pass to join the Survey Corps, don't you?"

"But we don't know what the trial is and how to prepare..." Serena frowns.

"You don't need to worry about that, I have complete confidence in Ash and Serena's skills." Laventon says.

"Let's hope it is not misplaced." Cyllene walks towards their table and says, "Ash and Serena, wasn't it? For tonight, at least, we will provide you with a place to sleep. You may use our quarters there."

She gives them an address, which turns out to be next to the Galaxy Hall. Cyllene adds, "But if you fail to pass the trial we put to you tomorrow, you must move on. You will be expelled from the village to meet your fate-and perhaps your death-in the wilds."

"That doesn't seem to sound good..." Ash sighs after seeing the captain walking away.

"Captain Cyllene's somewhat like Hisui, in that they're both quite harsh. Now now, she simply puts on a stern front to help keep us all safe." Laventon adds. "So Ash and Serena, I want to know, what is it like on the other side of the rift?"

Ash and Serena nod at each other and Ash says, "You see...we are from the future."

Here is a new chapter, and in this chapter, Ash and Serena meet Akari, who looks just like Dawn, and Cyllene, who looks like Cyrus. I hope you like this chapter and the next chapter will be Ash and Serena's explanations.
