Chapter Three:
The Chamber of Secrets
The next morning, Harry formulated a plan to get Tom's diary back into Ginny's hands. He got up and quickly dressed, grabbing his school bag along with the diary in his possession. Harry walked down the staircase to the Gryffindor common room and passed his classmates and out the common room portrait hole. After getting to the great hall, Harry sat down at the end of the table and served himself a helping of breakfast. Ronald Weasley sat a few seats down with Dean Thomas and Seamus Finnigan shoveling food sloppily into his orifice disgustingly. Harry scrunched up his nose when he saw this repulsive display. Harry and Ron had been friends since first year, but after the Philosopher's Stone fiasco, they parted ways. ' Good riddance,' Harry thought as he slowly ate his breakfast with a book in front of him.
Harry heard someone sat down in front of him and glanced up at Hermione Granger before returning to his reading. "Did you get Snape's potion assignment done?" she asked as she helped herself to a helping from the table.
Harry made a non-committal noise, then looked up from his book. "I finished that the first day he assigned it," he said closing his book then eating a little bit of toast, "Ended up writing more than he assigned by about a few inches."
Hermione smiled, "I only finished last night."
Harry finished eating breakfast in silence. He felt the hairs on the back of his neck start to stand up as if someone was watching him. He looked at the head table to find Dumbledore watching him with a deeply set frown on his face. Harry shrugged and gathered his school bag and got up for double Potions with Slytherin house. He wasn't looking forward to this. Gladly, at least Snape was off his back now. Hermione made a move and did the same. As he was leaving the Great Hall for the dungeons, he saw Ginevra Weasley coming in looking frazzled and acted like he ran into her. Quickly, Harry apologized as he moved to help her pick up her books, "Sorry for running into you, Ginny! I wasn't looking."
Secretly and quickly, he placed Tom's diary in her books as he gave them to her. She smiled, "Thank you," she mumbled shyly and moved past him for the Gryffindor table with a kind of star struck look in her eyes.
Harry smirked then continued walking with Hermione to Potions.
Time had come and past since Harry had last spoken to Tom Riddle's memory contained in the diary. Harry noticed that Ginevra Weasley grew more and more withdrawn from her social life. Most days, she looked as if the life was being sapped from her body.
Harry was in the Great Hall when Albus Dumbledore called for silence. Argus Filch had just finished whispering something to him. His expression was very grave, "Silence!" the whole of the great hall grew quiet as all of the students gave him their attention, "I have just been informed that a student has been taken into the Chamber. I ask all of you to please quietly and aptly return to your common rooms where your Head of House will inform you more on the situation. Prefects please lead your housemates out," then Dumbledore clapped his hands; a gentle breeze of magic blew throughout the Great hall and the benches scooted away from the table.
The Students made single file lines, walking from the Great Hall. A solemn air hung over the students' heads. The children whispered to one another of who it may that had been taken by the basilisk. Harry's eyes didn't betray what he knew and his hidden scheme that had been formed ages ago laid silently in the back of his mind.
Since forming the plan with Tom, Harry had slowly withdrew himself from the rest of his house. Ron's younger sister was soon about to die, and he felt that he had a hand in it. Surprisingly, Harry felt no true guilt for his misdeed. It was also now becoming harder to hide his Slytherin tendancies from his housemates. The few friends he kept were that of the Weasley Twins, and Hermionie Granger. Harry didn't know the rest of the Weasley clan. He felt they were good people, but he felt if they knew he was one of the those to cause the death of their daughter, they would want nothing else to do with him.
Instead of following the prefects, Harry went to moaning Myrtle's bathroom, found the sink that was the entrance to the chamber, and hissed, ' Open!'
"Accio Nimbus 2000!" he said and summoned his broom, having learned the spell and mastered it recently.
His broomstick flew into his hand, he hopped on it, and flew down the steep tunnel. Once reaching the door to the chamber, he hissed the same thing as before, ' Open!'
The metal snake to the door slithered away and the door opened. Harry entered. Harry walked calmly to the statue of Salazar Slytherin, where he found a transparent form of Tom Riddle forming as he fed off the life force or one Ginevra Weasley. Harry knew this was going to happen and he knew the diary was a Horcrux. He also knew that Tom was Lord Voldemort. Before handing off the Diary to Ginny, Tom had told him so. They felt a kinship to one another now. "How are you coming along, Tom?" Asked Harry once he reached the apparition-like soul that was forming.
"Alive. Unlike I've ever felt in ages," said he as he looked at his hand and wiggled his fingers, "And I have this new life all thanks to you, Harry."
Harry smirked, but happiness danced in his avada green eyes. "What's going to happen once you've fully formed?" enquired Harry curiously.
Tom looked at Harry as he thought of what would happen, "Most likely, they'll close the school briefly much like they did when I opened the Chamber ages ago. When they do that, I'll come for you, and get you from your relatives. I'm planning on making you my heir. If you'd like, I might even magically adopt you."
Harry looked at Tom inquisitive, "What would that entail?" he asked.
"Just a little bit of my blood. We can conduct the ritual at Gringotts. You would still, most likely, keep your eye color, since I would be magically adopting you as just your father," Tom explained, "Once we have everything squared away, I'm going to need your help in hunting for the horcruxes."
"I understand, Tom. Is the process almost done?" Harry enquired.
"Yes, I feel so alive. All of Ginny's life force is almost mine. Good riddance to the silly girl. All she did was whined and she was strangely obsessed with you. Kind of made me sick to he ar all the time," Tom replied.
Finally, the process was completed and Ginny had passed away.
