Chapter 18 Post Obsidian Fieldlands Part 1

As they walk back to Deertrack Heights, they find a man named Bjorn, he says, "Ho, there! Mind helping a guy out? I'm after some Cheri Berries - you know 'em? The shiny red ones! They grow on some of the trees round here...But I don't have any Pokemon that can reach them for me."

"We do have some, how many do you want?" Ash asks.

"I need three of them, please." Bjorn says as Ash takes out three Cheri Berries and hands them over to the man.

"Thanks! Here is your reward." He gives them 15 more Poke Balls, which they can use to capture some more Pokemon.

After getting back to Nature Pantry, they see that in the distance there is a Staraptor flying past. Ash says, "One of the tasks is that we have to capture Staraptor in midair. I guess that is what it means, right?"

Serena says, "Maybe that's why we need the Feather Balls."

Serena throws some Sky Balls and eventually one of them catches Staraptor in the end.

Staraptor's Research Tasks: Number caught:1,2,4,10,15 Number you've caught while they were in the air:1,2,3,4,5 Number defeated:1,2,4,10,15 Number of you've defeated with Rock-type moves:1,2,5,10,20 Times you have seen it use Air Slash:1,3,8,20,40 Times you have seen it use Brave Bird:1,3,8,20,40Times you've seen it use a strong style move:1,2,4,10,15 Number of different forms you've obtained:2

Hisui Dex Entry No.14 Staraptor: The Predator Pokemon: Normal- and Flying-type. Evolve from Staravia at LV:34. It has left the flock, having gained strength enough to survive on its own. The astounding force with which Staraptor flies through the air allows it to carry away large, burly targets.

Then they also walk towards Sandgem Flats, and they are surprised to see not only a Luxray, but also Mime Jr. and Mr. Mime.

"It is a good thing that we have come here." Serena says, "Who knows what kind of Pokemon we could've missed."

"You're right." Ash says. "Let's try to capture all of them and fulfill the tasks."

Luxray's Research Tasks: Number caught:1,2,4,10,15 Number defeated:1,2,4,10,15 Number of you've defeated with Ground-type moves:1,2,4,6,10 Times you have seen it use Thunder Fang:1,3,6,12,25 Times you have seen it use Crunch:1,3,6,12,25 Times you have seen it use Wild Charge:1,3,8,20,40 Times you've seen it use a strong style move:1,3,8,20,40 Number of different forms you've obtained:2

Hisui Dex Entry No.17 Luxray: The Gleam Eyes Pokemon: Electric-type. Evolve from Luxio at LV:30. They form packs, each having one male as leader. Legends say that when Luxray's two eyes shimmer with gold, the Pokémon can see through anything.

Hisui Dex Entry No.76 Mime Jr.: The Mime Pokemon: Psychic- and Fairy-type. Known to turn up in bustling marketplaces now and again. It mimics people much as a child would, then watches how they react, eyes sparkling.

Hisui Dex Entry No.77 Mr. Mime: The Barrier Pokemon: Psychic- and Fairy-type. Evolve from Mime Jr. by learning Mimic. The behavior of this clown-like Pokémon reminds one of pantomime. It creates invisible walls using a force emitted from its fingertips.

And since it is nighttime, they also find a Drifblim in the wild.

Drifblim's Research Tasks: Number caught:1,2,4,10,15 Number caught at night:1,2,5,10,20 Number defeated:1,3,6,12,25 Number of you've defeated with Dark-type moves:1,3,10,25,40 Times you have seen it use Mystical Fire:1,3,6,12,25 Times you have seen it use Self-Destruct:1,2,4,10,15 Times you've seen it use an agile style move:1,3,8,20,40

Hisui Dex Entry No.38 Drifblim: The Blimp Pokemon: Ghost- and Flying-type. Evolve from Drifloon at LV:28. It drifts along at dusk, perfectly silent. Its transient, melancholy aspect touches some people deeply—every so often, one will come upon a song or poem devoted to Drifblim.

In Sandgem Flats, there are also some Kadabra, and an alpha Alakazam who is trying to attack Ash and Serena. Both of them manage to dodge in the way, but their teleport and psychic moves give them a lot of damage.

"This place sure is scary, I think we really need to fight them." Serena says.

"I know." Ash adds as he takes out Beautifly to defeat the Kadabra, and captures one in the end. As for the Alpha Alakazam, Serena is commanding Snorlax to use Crunch to defeat it.

Kadabra's Research Tasks: Number caught:1,2,4,10,15 Number defeated:1,2,4,10,15 Number of you've defeated with Bug-type moves:1,2,5,10,20 Times you have seen it use Calm MInd:1,3,6,12,25 Times you have seen it use Psycho Cut:1,3,6,12,25 Number of different forms you've obtained:2 Number you've evolved:1,2,3

Alakazam's Research Tasks: Number caught:1,2,4,6,10 Number of alpha specimens caught:1,2,3 Number defeated:1,2,4,6,10 Number of you've defeated with Dark-type moves:1,2,3 Times you have seen it use Recover:1,3,8,20,40 Times you have seen it use Psychic:1,3,10,30,70 Times you've seen it use an agile style move:1,2,4,10,15 Number of different forms you've obtained:2

Hisui Dex Entry No.59 Kadabra: The Psi Pokemon: Psychic-type. Evolve from Abra at LV:16. There are rumors that a child with mystical powers became a Kadabra; however, this remains unverified. I suspect that the spoon Kadabra holds enhances its brain waves.

Hisui Dex Entry No.60 Alakazam: The Psi Pokemon: Psychic-type. Evolve from Kadabra with a Linking Cord. The longer Alakazam lives, the larger and heavier its head becomes. Our tests have shown that the strength of its psychic powers correlates positively to the weight of its head.

"What is a Linking Cord? I mean, I thought Kadabra evolves by trading away..." Ash says.

"I don't know, but maybe it is something that can evolve trade Pokemon?" Serena says, "But we don't know where to find it..."

And at the beach, they can also find West-sea Shellos and Gastrodon, and both of them decide to capture them. They find a smaller Shellos and feed it with food to make themselves unnoticed. And then they manage to capture for Gastrodon, they find a heavy one and capture it without being spotted.

"Well, it says that we also need to capture an Eastern Sea one...I guess we can't do that yet." Serena says.

"You're right." Ash sighs.

Shellos' Research Tasks: Number caught:1,3,6,12,25 Number of small specimens caught:1,2,3,4,5 Number you've caught without being spotted:1,2,4,6,10 Number defeated:1,2,4,6,10 Times you have seen it use Water Pulse:1,3,6,12,25 Times you've given it food:1,2,4,6,8 Number of different forms you've obtained:2 Number you've evolved:1

Gastrodon's Research Tasks: Number caught:1,2,4,10,15 Number of heavy specimens caught:1,2,5,7,10 Number you've caught without being spotted:1,2,4,6,10 Number defeated:1,2,4,10,15 Times you have seen it use Mud Bomb:1,3,8,20,40 Times you've seen it use a strong style move:1,3,8,20,40 Number of different forms you've obtained:2

Hisui Dex Entry No.82 Shellos (West Sea): The Sea Slug Pokémon: Water-type. Found in abundance on seashores bordering warm waters. Shellos are unexpectedly friendly and will crawl toward any person they see. Take care not to get coated in mucus!

Hisui Dex Entry No.83 Gastrodon (West Sea): The Sea Slug Pokemon: Water- and Ground-type. Evolve from Shellos at LV:30. Found more often on the land than in the sea. More active when it's cloudy or rainy out than when the weather is fair.

By headbutting the shaking tree, Ash manages to find Wormadam in the plant cloak forms.

Wormadam's Research Tasks: Number caught:1,2,4,10,15 Number defeated:1,3,6,12,25 Number of you've defeated with Fire-type moves:1,2,5,10,20 Times you have seen it use Confusion:1,3,6,12,25 Times you have seen it use Bug Buzz:1,3,8,20,40 Times you've seen it use an agile style move:1,3,10,30,70 Number you've seen leap out of trees:1,2,4,10,15 Number of different forms you've obtained:3

Hisui Dex Entry No. 44 Wormadam (Plant Cloak): The Bagworm Pokemon: Bug- and Grass-type. Evolve from female Burmy at LV:20. The cloak—fashioned from plant matter—has merged with the Pokémon and is now part of the body, like fur or skin. I suspect this fusion is an effect of the energy involved in evolution.

And by smashing the rocks, they find Graveler inside.

Graveler's Research Tasks: Number caught:1,2,4,10,15 Number of heavy specimens caught:1,2,5,7,10 Number defeated:1,3,8,20,40 Number of you've defeated with Fighting-type moves:1,2,5,10,20 Number you've seen leap out of ore deposits:1,2,4,10,15 Number you've evolved:1,2,3

Hisui Dex Entry No.47 Graveler: The Rock Pokemon: Rock- and Ground-type. Evolve from Geodude at LV:25. Dwells in holes dug into sheer walls of stone. It enjoys rolling down slopes as though it were a boulder during a rockfall, so keep an eye upward while traversing mountain roads.

"Hey, Ash! This is dropped from the Graveler!" Serena says as she picks up the item, and Ash says, "That's the Black Augurite that Lillie told us about...the item to evolve Scyther into Kleavor."

"If that's the case, let's try it out." Serena says as she gives Scyther the stone, and without the need to trade, it evolves into Kleavor in the end.

"It works...that's amazing!" Ash says.

"Yeah, so according to the research, we need to see it use a Strong and an agile style move, and also Stone Axe and X-Scissor. Stone Axe sounds like a new move."

And when Kleavor tries it out, they are surprised to see the pieces of the axes go into the Pokemon's body like Stealth Rocks.

Kleavor's Research Tasks: Number caught:1,2,3,4,5 Times you have seen it use Stone Axe:1,3,8,20,40 Times you have seen it use X-Scissor:1,3,6,12,25 Times you've seen it use a strong style move:1,3,8,20,40 Times you've seen it use an agile style move:1,3,8,20,40

Hisui Dex Entry No.73 Kleavor: The Axe Pokemon: Bug- and Rock-type. Evolve from Scyther by holding the Black Augurite. A violent creature that fells towering trees with its crude axes and shields itself with hard stone. If one should chance upon this Pokémon in the wilds, one's only recourse is to flee.

And while they are looking around the area, Ash notices the lake and says, "Hey, that's Lake Verity."

"Lake Verity...I remember it is one of the three famous lakes in the Sinnoh Region, right? The one with the Lake Guardian Mesprit, right?" Serena asks.

"Yeah. And since this is the Sandgem Flats, I think I might know where this place might become in the future." Ash says. "Sandgem Town is actually where Professor Rowan lives."

"You're right." Serena looks at the map and says, "Hey Ash, since there is a Mossy Rock in the Heartwood, how about we try to evolve our Eevee?"

"That might be a good idea." Ash says. "It is a good thing we have Wyrdeer, we can get there with no time."

As it is nighttime, they also find some Golbats in Heartwood, and they have Floatzel use Ice Punch to defeat one, and then have Alakazam defeat another one with Psychic.

Golbat's Research Tasks: Number caught:1,2,4,10,15 Number caught at night:1,2,5,10,20 Number defeated:1,2,4,10,15 Number of you've defeated with Ice-type moves:1,2,6,12,25 Number of you've defeated with Psychic-type moves:1,2,6,12,25 Times you have seen it use Bite:1,3,6,12,25 Times you have seen it use Air Cutter:1,3,6,12,25 Number of different forms you've obtained:2

Hisui Dex Entry No.35 Golbat: The Bat Pokemon: Poison- and Flying-type. Evolve from Zubat at LV:22. It sinks its sharp fangs into other creatures and slurps up their blood. A closer look at the fangs reveals that they are hollow and akin to straws.

While they are exploring the nighttime ends and daytime arrives, Serena says, "Time really goes fast, don't you think? It is already day time."

"Yeah." Ash says as he finds another shaking tree, and after shaking it, a Cherrim appears. "It's a Cherrim."

"That must be a rare find." Serena comments, and then the Cherrim starts to glow and changes its form. "So that's how it changes form...the sun really helps."

"Yeah, this is the Sunny form, before changing it was Overcast." Ash says.

Cherrim's Research Tasks: Number caught:1,2,4,10,15 Number caught during daylight hours:1,2,4,6,10 Number defeated:1,2,3,4,5 Times you have seen it use Petal Dance:1,3,8,20,40 Times you've seen it use an agile style move:1,2,4,10,15 Number you've seen leap out of trees:1,2,4,10,15

Hisui Dex Entry No.67 Cherrim (Overcast Form): The Blossom Pokemon: Grass-type. Evolve from Cherubi at LV:25. Motionless, save for the occasional quiver. A rich array of Pokémon can be found gathered around it, drawn by the scent exuded from Cherrim's folded petals.

Hisui Dex Entry No.67 Cherrim (Sunny Form): The Blossom Pokemon: Grass-type. Evolve from Cherubi at LV:25. Cheerfully active on sunny days. Immediately closes its petals and becomes immobile once the sun becomes hidden, however.

"Here it is." Grace says, "This is what Ash and Serena want to find, right?"

Delia says, "Adaman and Irida. Married and united both Diamond and Pearl Clan in the end. So those two really are Serena's ancestors. But why is there Ash and Serena's name on it?"

Grace says, "Serena's name is chosen by my grandmother, as she said that one of the heroes in the past is called this name. Do you think that the Serena in this book is my daughter?"

"That might be possible, you remind me, Ash's name is also chosen by Red's father because of the same reason...maybe they are bound to go back in time to make history..." Delia adds.

And I'll end this chapter here, as you can see, Ash and Serena explore the rest of Heartwood and Sandgem Flats to capture the rest of the Pokemon. There are also some more that will be written in the next chapter. I hope you like it.
