Dearest Hannah,

Forgive the late hour at which this is bound to reach you. We can no longer risk letters by the day light for fear our correspondants will be found and targeted.

If only you were here. I hope you and your father continue to be well. Everyone from Hufflepuff misses you, as we did when you first left. So do the other students who knew you. I can't blame them.

I refuse to soften things up. We're in the midst of a war, as you know. As I'm sure the Daily Prophet is reporting, there have been deaths on many sides. And I don't know how things are going to end. I wish I did, though. I have to help, Hannah. I can help save them, prevent more tragedies like your mother. Move along with your life, go somewhere safe. If you died, I don't know what I would do. You've always been there for me as I have for you. You've been closer to me than anyone.

If I survive, I promise I'll find you. I swear it.

I love you Hannah.

Ernie
