Kiddush Yatom
A sequel to Kiddush Levana, another prayer which inspired me. My dear friend Mike lost his mother and for a year, had to get up in front of the congregation and recite a prayer. The pain on his face will be remembered forever. I have a terrible feeling Iroh might not survive this season and I thought of Zuko reciting a prayer for him. Please creators, prove me wrong!
Agni, in thy name I pray
Return to ashes your creation
Although we stand as traitors
Let him rest within his nation
Light his eternal life brightly
May his good deeds shine on high
Let him be remembered with joy
And mourned with a piercing cry
I light the flames to free his soul
And look upon him one last time
To know that he suffered just for me
That caring for me was his only crime
How much pain I must have given him
Yet he never once grumbled or complained
How often I was sharp with him
How often was he pained?
Slain by his own family
Now his spirit can roam free
May he find the peace he yearned for
And not spare a thought for me
Let this candle be a remembrance
To the man who deserved more from life
Who struggled to find the happiness
Now rejoined with his son and wife
I can feel his presence still with me
But inside me, I'm filled with hate
I never told him how much I loved him
And now it's far too late
