Chapter 2: JMA
Nightfall woke to wings beating and dragons talking. Even though they were all the way down at the base of the mountain, Nightfall could still hear the noise. They got up, grabbed their supplies, and lifted off. After a minute or two, they reached the top and glided down to the large cave opening. The cave had a large banner that read "Welcome Students to Jade Mountain Academy for Year 2!". The banner was surrounded by cobalt and lime flowers. Nightfall suddenly felt all the thoughts come streaming into their head like a tidal wave. Nightfall fell out of the sky from the pressure. Right before they hit the ground, they had time to think well, that wasn't the best first impression.
When Nightfall groggily woke up, they found a large Mudwing standing over them, along with a Nightwing and a Sandwing, with their tails entwined. "The patient is awake!", the Nightwing said to the Mudwing. The Mudwing looked back down at Nightfall and said "Hello there, My name is Clay and this is Moon and Qibli. What's your name?" Meanwhile, his thoughts were asking who is this Nightwing? While Moon wondered the same thing and Qibli was thinking who is this strange new nightwing and what are they doing here and why aren't they answering Clay's questions? Nightfall mentally sighed and reminded themself that they were mute and they probably shouldn't broadcast just yet. Instead, They looked at Moon and, using her thoughts, discovered she was a mind reader as well. They concentrated as hard as they could on the fact that they were mute. "Oh! Clay, this dragon is mute! That's why they aren't answering your question!", said Moon. okay maybe now I broadcast. Nightfall thought as hard as they could, broadcasting the message I may be mute, but that doesn't mean I cannot communicate. My name is Nightfall. "Woah! Did you guys hear that? Feel that?", Qibli exclaimed. "Yeah what was that?", Moon asked. This is how I communicate. I am a mind reader, and I have been living in the rainforest for almost all my life. The reason I fell out of the sky was that I am not used to so many voices in my head. I am here to sign up for the academy. "Okay, that was kind of freaky, but okay, I will contact Tsunami and the others so we can decide where to put you. School starts in a few days so you should be fine.", Clay said. Can I get familiarized with the layout of the school and get some food? It was a long flight. Nightfall broadcasted. "Sure", Clay said, and they headed out of the Healing Center.
Later, Nightfall lay in the bed of moss that had been prepared for them and thought about the events of the day. After the conversation, Clay had brought Nightall to the Prey Center where they took a mango and a banana and sat down to eat. There were a few other dragons in the Prey Center, Moon and Qibli included. There was also an unfamiliar Icewing, and some other dragons, but Nightfall was too hungry to get a good look at them. Nightfall and Clay then left the Prey Center to go find Tsunami and Sunny and register Nightfall. They found them in a cave right next to the entrance to the academy. Clay told them about Nightfall and how they were mute and how they read minds and broadcasted to communicate. Sunny and Tsunami were shocked when Nightfall broadcasted to them, and then they had Nightfall fill out a form with all their personal information on it, as well as favorite genre of scrolls (for Starflight) and their passions in general. After that, Clay showed Nightfall to a small room with a moss bed in it. "This is your temporary cave, until all the other students get here and all of the teachers (including me) decide the winglets.", Clay told Nightfall, and then he went away so nightfall could get some rest. Nightfall lay in bed for a while worrying about the days to come and hoping for the best, then they finally fell asleep to dreams of tons of dragons.
