Chapter 5

Some days no matter how hard she tried Callie just couldn't sleep past 6. No matter what her eyes would pop open as soon as the clock struck 6. This morning was a little different, the clock hadn't even said 5 yet when her eyes popped open. After only getting a few hours of sleep, she groaned as she saw the blue numbers on the alarm clock switch from 4:59 to 5:00, rolling over knowing Arizona would be asleep another couple hours, she wrapped her arm around her and snuggled close, loving the feeling of holding her. It didn't take long when she gave up on the cuddling and got out of bed, knowing that her tossing and turning would eventually wake Arizona up, and she didn't want to deal with a sleep deprived Arizona on the day before they got married, Arizona also had a show that night, knowing how exhausting those always were, or so she said. Climbing out of bed she put on a pair of sleep pants and shirt, taking another look at her sleeping beauty, she smiled, remembering the morning after the first time they made love.

Xxxxxx

No matter how hard she tried, the rising sun always woke her up, Callie glanced over at the clock, seeing it wasn't even 6 yet she groaned. Trying to stretch, smiling when she realized why everything hurt. Looking over at her sleeping lover her smile got bigger. She had nothing but love for the blue-eyed beauty who was asleep half on top of her. Realizing she'd be held captive for another couple hours. She tried to settle in and go back to sleep herself, but her body would have none of it. Knowing her tossing and turning would eventually disrupt the sleeping form next to her, she carefully slid out from under Arizona's embrace, wrenching in pain, her muscles hadn't hurt like that in a very long time, if ever. Finding her basketball shorts and a shirt she slid them on, sitting back down on the bed she stared at Arizona. Leaning down and kissing her cheek she whispered "I love you" when to her surprised she heard "I love you too" back. Looking at her she saw Arizona was still asleep 'must be having a dream'. Callie stood up and headed towards the door, the bathroom was calling. Coming out of the bathroom she decided to make some coffee and step outside for a smoke. She didn't smoke too often, but she felt she needed one this morning. Grabbing herself a cup of coffee she headed towards the patio door leading out to a big deck, which had a patio table and chairs and the gas grill her dad used all the time. Sitting down in one of the cozy chairs, she often wondered where her parents found this set, the chairs were as comfortable as the big armchair in the living room, a half-smile came across her face thinking of her mom. She was lost in thoughts didn't even hear the door slide open, she was brought back to the present by the feeling of someone climbing into her lap. "mm good morning" she said as Arizona placed butterfly kisses on her neck

"good morning, why'd you leave me?"

"I couldn't sleep anymore, and I didn't want to wake you so"

Arizona nodded, "I see you were smoking"

"yeah" Callie sighed looking down feeling a little guilty

"got an extra" Arizona asked surprising Callie

"yeah but they're in the house, I only brought one out with me"

"no worries" Arizona said standing up leaning down and kissing Callie "I'll get them, and you some more coffee" she said grabbing the cup off the table. She headed towards the house once she got to the door she turned around "oh and I love you" she said with a smile, turning on her heal shutting the door behind her. Leaving Callie with her thoughts. Feeling embarrassed that Arizona was awake enough to hear her say those words but feeling a little overwhelmed at the fact that Arizona loved her too. She couldn't help but smile. Arizona loved her too. She heard the door open again and looking up she saw, the one person she couldn't get off her mind, no matter how much she tried, the one person who could make her go from being grumpy and depressed to a giddy school girl with a smile. Setting the tray, she was carrying on the table Arizona moved the chair closer to Callie's and sat down.

"you ok?"

"yeah" Callie said not having the ability to say anything more than that

"are you sure?" Arizona asked looking her over.

"I am more than ok" Callie finally said looking up into Arizona's eyes, seeing the love she had for her. "I just can't believe you heard me say that"

"you didn't mean it?" Arizona said pretending to be hurt as she lit the cigarette

"no, I mean it" Callie said with a smile, reaching for her cup

"good" Arizona leaned over "cuz I mean it too" she added kissing Callie, pulling away "any plans today?"

"nope, you?" Callie said setting her cup back down

"no, I thought maybe we could spend the day doing whatever you want"

"whatever I want huh?" Callie smiled looking directly in Arizona's pools of blue

"we can do that" Arizona stood up taking Callie's hand and led her back into the house. Once they got to the bedroom she took her in her arms whispering, "I love you" as she pulled Callie into a kiss which led to Callie pushing Arizona down on the bed, making love.

Arizona rolled over to find the spot next to her empty, looking at the clock she noticed it was just before 6, she still had a little time to sleep, but instead she got up, knowing Callie was probably freaking out. Sighing she swung her legs over the side of the bed in search of her shorts and a shirt. Finding the items scattered all over the room, as they often were, she smiled remembering their love making the night before, and realizing that's why certain muscles hurt. Shaking her head, she headed out of the room in search of the bathroom. Coming down the stairs she saw the kitchen light on, knowing Callie was probably out on the patio smoking. She didn't smoke too often, but Arizona knew today was different. Stopping in the kitchen to grab herself a cup of coffee, she headed towards the glass patio door, seeing Callie sitting in the same spot she had so many years ago, made Arizona smile. As she remembered the first time she found her there, and the confessions that were made that day. She slowly opened the door, making her way to the table she set her cup down, and climbed into Callie's lap. "morning baby" she said placing butterfly kisses on Callie's cheek

"mm morning" Callie smiled

"everything alright?"

"more than, just couldn't sleep"

"I figured" Arizona adjusted herself "got another?" she asked nodding towards the cigarette, she too was nervous.

"mmhmm" Callie nodded to the pack on the table. As Arizona leaned forward to grab the pack she felt Callie wince in pain underneath her.

"should I get off?"

"yeah maybe" Callie smiled a weak smile. "last night was"

"I hurt too" Arizona winked, standing up, pulling the chair closer, brushing off the snow "in a good way though" she added leaning down and kissing her. She sat down trying to relax, knowing in a few hours they'd be on a plane headed for Vegas. She saw Callie shiver "let's go in" Callie nodded standing up. Sitting down at the table, Arizona freshened up both their coffees

"hey girls" Carlos said coming in reaching for a cup, he noticed the look both girls had "don't be nervous"

"I'm more nervous about flying than I am the getting married" Callie admitted

"why?" Arizona asked confused "we'll have the best pilot" she added smiling at Carlos.

"thanks" he said sitting down "Callie, honey, you have nothing to be worried about, the flight will go smooth I promise"

"I hope so"

"it will" Arizona reached for her hand and kissing it "I'm going to go get cleaned up"

"ok" Callie smiled, as she watched Arizona leave the room. After Arizona, was out of ear shot Carlos look at his only daughter and asked, "it's not the flight you're worried about, is it?"

"no" Callie sighed "I know without a doubt I want to spend the rest of my life with Arizona, it's just I'm worried she's going to change her mind"

"oh honey" he said leaning over so he could get her undivided attention "you two are meant to be together, there's no doubt in my mind"

"I'm so glad you feel that way" Callie said

"don't cut yourself short, honey, Arizona loves you" he said standing up and leaving the room, leaving Callie sitting there lost in her thoughts.

"hey did we remember to bring my hair straightener?" Arizona asked standing in the bathroom of their hotel room

"mm" Callie said looking around the room at the clothes spread out everywhere "not sure, not that I can tell in all this mess"

"hmm" Arizona looked in the mirror "hopefully they have one in the dressing room"

"or you could send April out to buy one" Callie said walking up and wrapping her arms around Arizona

"or we could go on an adventure" Arizona said making eye contact with Callie in the mirror "send April" they both said in unison and smiled. Callie turned her head "you're beautiful"

"so are you" Arizona said raising her hand to brush a strand of hair out of Callie's face. "I love you so much" she added placing a soft kiss on Callie's lips. Arizona could feel the smile on Callie's face, as she slid her tongue over Arizona's bottom lip demanding entrance, when Arizona opened her mouth, Callie bit her bottom lip lightly. Pulling back, Arizona looked in the beautiful blue eyes she fell hard for "I need to get ready for the show"

"I know" Callie smiled placing another kiss on Arizona's lips and left the bathroom "did you want me to see about the straightener?"

"nah, I'll just make do without it" Arizona said moving strands of hair around her face, but giving up and rubbing it "I could just start a new fad?" she said sticking her head out the door.

"you look hot" Callie giggled looking down digging through a bag "hey, look what I found" she held up Arizona's hair straightener

"I knew we packed it, that thing is just like my guitar, I never leave home without it" Arizona smiled walking out of the bathroom taking it out of Callie's hand and kissing her cheek "thank you"

"your welcome" Callie smiled "you better hurry" she said glancing at the clock

"yeah April will be calling shortly"

xxxxxxxxxxxx

"I think everything sounds great" Arizona said placing the microphone on its stand.

"you sure you don't want to use the hands-free mic?" April asked holding it up

"yeah I'm sure, I don't plan on getting too wild, maybe on the tour I'll try it out"

"ok" April said tossing it to one of the tech guys. "so tomorrow's the big day huh?"

"sure is" Arizona smiled as she walked passed April to the fridge, opening it and grabbing two waters.

"are you nervous?"

"no, not at all" Arizona said looking April directly in the eyes "I love Callie and I know she is the one" April smiled and had a look like she was lost in her thoughts "what's up?"

"I've been wanting to talk to you" April said motioning for them to sit

"ok, should I be worried"

"no, I'm just, guh" April sighed leaning her head on her hands

"what is it?" Arizona said

"I" April took a deep breath "I'm in love with Teddy"

"yeah?"

"you're not surprised?"

"Ape, you've been, what's the right word" she paused a moment, thinking of the right word "obsessed? With her since you met her"

"I have not been obsessed with her" April protested but a look from Arizona caused them both to laugh, "alright, you got me" April let out a sigh "do you, um, do you think I should tell her?"

"that's up to you, I don't know how your relationship is, outside of dinner the other night I haven't seen you two together in a while" Arizona said "it's cool though, I like knowing Teddy is busy doing her own thing and not bugging me every five minutes" April just smiled "I think you should do what you feel is right"

"when did you know, you loved Callie" April asked

"the moment I saw her number on my phone for the first time" Arizona smiled remembering the day they first met.

"ok, but when did you tell her?"

"I took her home for dinner, and well you know my family, so you can just imagine how that went" Arizona giggled

"yeah" April laughed

"we got back to her house, and I thought for sure it was over, I mean she'd met Teddy the day we met, but meeting my parents, I thought for sure would scare her away" Arizona paused smiling "we ended up making love for the first time that night"

"wait weren't you guys dating for a while before that?"

"yeah like a month, I wanted to be sure she wasn't going to totally freak out before I introduced her to the craziness of my family" Arizona giggled

"so you guys slept together before you slept together?"

"yeah" Arizona smiled "why is that so hard to believe?"

"I don't know" April said feeling confused "I guess I just, Teddy"

"I've never been the type to hop into bed with someone" Arizona smiled "to be completely honest, I've only been with two people"

"wow, I just thought, wait who was the first?"

"her name was Julie, my first girlfriend, she, um, couldn't decide what she wanted, so"

"I've had a few of those" April laughed knowing all too well what Arizona was getting at

"anyway, it was the next morning, Callie woke up early, like she always does. I pretended to be asleep, not ready to face the world yet"

"must run in the family"

"yeah, anyway, she kissed me and whispered it, I said it back, then heard her leave the room. I laid there for a while thinking about what had just happened, and realized I didn't regret saying it"

"that's awesome" April smiled "do you think Teddy feels the same?"

"like I said I haven't seen her much lately, so I have no idea what's going on in her head" April just took a deep breath "just tell her, what's the worse that's going to happen"

"she could flip out and leave me"

"she could but I don't think she will" Arizona said with a wink "are we done here? I'm hungry"

"yeah, let's go" April said heading out the door

"hello Las Vegas, how are we doing tonight?" Arizona yelled into the mic "great! I hope you enjoy the show" she added looking down to find the love of her life in the front row smiling. As the band started playing the first song. She felt weird playing without her band, earlier that day when she gave them her set list, she had wished she could have brought the guys, they would have loved to be here, but that wasn't in the cards, sighing she started in on the first song.

The broken clock is a comfort, it helps me sleep tonight
Maybe it can stop tomorrow from stealing all my time
I am here still waiting though I still have my doubts
I am damaged at best, like you've already figured out

I'm falling apart, I'm barely breathing
With a broken heart that's still beating
In the pain there is healing
In your name I find meaning
So I'm holdin' on, I'm holdin' on, I'm holdin' on
I'm barely holdin' on to you

The broken locks were a warning you got inside my head
I tried my best to be guarded, I'm an open book instead
I still see your reflection inside of my eyes
That are looking for a purpose, they're still looking for life

I'm falling apart, I'm barely breathing
With a broken heart that's still beating
In the pain (in the pain), is there healing
In your name (in your name) I find meaning
So I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin'), I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin'), I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin')
I'm barely holdin' on to you

I'm hangin' on another day
Just to see what you will throw my way
And I'm hanging on to the words you say
You said that I will be OK

The broken lights on the freeway left me here alone
I may have lost my way now, haven't forgotten my way home

I'm falling apart, I'm barely breathing
With a broken heart that's still beating
In the pain(In the pain) there is healing
In your name I find meaning
So I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin'), I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin'), I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin'),
I'm barely holdin' on to you

I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin'), I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin'), I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin'),
I'm barely holdin' on to you

While she sang she kept her eyes on Callie. Not knowing how she was going to react to some of the songs, most of them were wrote after they split up.

"alright, those of you who don't know. I'm here in Vegas to get married, to the love of my life, who is in the front row, with the rest of the family. Callie, I love you" she said turning around and motioning to the band as they started to play.

One word, that's all you said
Something in your voice called me, turned my head
Your smile, just captured me
You were in my future as far as I could see
And I dont know how it happens, but it happens still
You asked me if I love you, if I always will

Well you had me from hello
I felt love start to grow
The moment I looked into your eyes you won me
It was over from the start you completely stole my heart
And now you won't let go
I never even had a chance you know
You had me from hello

Inside I built a wall
So high around my heart, I thought I'd never fall
One touch, you brought it down
The bricks of my defenses scattered on the ground
And I swore to me I wasn't going to love again
The last time was the last time I'd let someone in

But you had me from hello
I felt love start to grow
The moment that I looked into your eyes you won me
It was over from the start you completely stole my heart
And now you won't let go
I never even had a chance you know
You had me from hello

That's all you said
Something in your voice calls me, turns my head
You had me from hello
You had me from hello
Girl, I've loved you from hello

"that was amazing" April said as Arizona walked passed heading to the dressing room.

"thanks" Arizona smiled taking a seat on the couch.

"you looked different up there" April said joining her on the couch

"yeah? How so?"

"I don't know, almost like you" April was interrupted by a knock at the door they looked over "and that is why I looked different" Arizona stood up with a smile as Callie ran into her arms and their lips met.

"baby, you were amazing"

"yeah baby you were amazing" they looked up to see Teddy standing in the door way it didn't take long before she had April in her arms "mom and dad want to know if we are having dinner"

"what do you think?" Arizona asked looking at Callie

"I'm hungry" Callie whispered

"then we'll go eat" Callie smiled and nodded thinking to herself 'not that kind of hungry idiot' "what's that smile for?"

"oh nothing" Callie kissed her "let's go eat" grabbing Arizona's hand and leading her out of the dressing room.

"come on, you're always making us late for everything" Arizona said trying to make Teddy hurry up.

"yeah, yeah calm your tits, I'm almost done"

"you act like you're the one getting married" Arizona said meeting her sister's eyes in the mirror

"I have to make sure I look good"

"who the hell do you have to impress?"

"well April duh" Teddy said looking in the mirror messing with her hair Arizona just shook her head, looking in the mirror herself

"you realize you could look like you just stepped out of a horror movie and she'd still be all over you right?"

"yeah but still" Teddy was cut off by Arizona hitting her with a towel as they both giggled "I can't believe I'm getting married"

"I know me either" Teddy said setting the brush down and making eye contact with her sister. "I'm so happy for you sissy, you have no idea"

"I can't believe it's happening" Arizona said trying to keep the tears at bay, "all the while Callie and I were apart, I had so many dreams of us reconnecting, and finally being together." Arizona lowered her head Teddy reached over and put her arms on Arizona's back "it all"

"feels like a dream" Teddy finished for her

"yeah" Arizona said looking up in the mirror meeting her eyes again. "I feel as if I'm going to wake up and I'll be in some random hotel room in some unknown city alone, miles away from home, without having talked to Callie"

"Arizona" Teddy said taking her hand as they faced each other "I know this can't be easy for you, I was there, I saw what you went through. But through it all, the love that you two have for each other has made it. I knew it the moment she came over and said hi, five years ago in that coffee house. She loves you, although I don't know why, but she does" they both giggled

"thanks sissy" Arizona smiled

"it's all a little overwhelming but it's what you both need"

"wow who would have thought you'd be the one giving me a pep talk right before my wedding"

"I know right" Teddy said looking in the mirror then hearing her phone go off "well that's our cue, are you ready?"

Taking one last look in the mirror Arizona took a deep breath and smiled "ready as I'll ever be"

"let's go do this sissy" Teddy gave Arizona a hug

"yeah" Arizona smiled

xxxxxxxx

"you know, in just a few minutes you won't be Arizona Robbins anymore" Teddy whispered

"I'll be Arizona Torres-Robbins" Arizona smiled as the doors opened and April came walking out.

"there's my girl" Teddy smiled, leaving Arizona to roll her eyes and shake her head. As Callie appeared with Carlos, Arizona's heart skipped a beat. She couldn't move, lost in the sight of the person who held her heart. They hadn't seen each other since the early morning, when April and Barbara had taken Callie away to get the 'special bride treatment' manicure, pedicure, hair done, then helping her get ready. Since it was only family there Callie had April stand up for her. As their eyes met Arizona saw Callie smile, that smile that always made Arizona weak in the knees.

xxxxxxxxxxx

"you ready?" Carlos asked a nervous Callie

"as ready as I'll ever be" Callie smiled a nervous smile

"hey" her father said stopping "I just want to say something quick, I haven't had much time to talk to you since you gave us the news"

"oh, come on you knew it was coming"

"I did" Carlos nodded with a smile "and I couldn't be happier for the two of you. I love Arizona and I know you two will be happy together" he stopped to take a deep breath, searching his pockets pulling out a ring "I know you bought rings, but when it comes time will you put this one on Arizona's finger?"

Callie looked down recognizing it as the ring her mother wore "dad" she said looking him in the eye, with tears in hers

"Calliope, honey, I wish your mother could be here to see how happy you are. I know she would love Arizona just as much as I do. I remember the day I gave her this ring" he stopped trying to keep the tears in shaking his head "I love you honey" he added kissing her cheek

"I love you, too daddy" Callie said hugging him, taking the ring. As they rounded the corner and headed into the hall, Callie looked up and lost all control to even breathe when she caught the sight of Arizona staring back at her. Dressed in the shirt and tie they had picked out together, Teddy standing next to her in a matching shirt and tie.

"we need to move" Carlos whispered as the music had changed, shaking her head Callie smiled as they stepped forward. "don't trip, don't trip, don't trip" Callie whispered

"you're not going to trip" Carlos laughed at his daughter, as they made their way down the aisle.

"thank you, Carlos," Arizona said taking Callie's hand, he smiled and kissed them both on the cheek, as they turned around the justice of the peace had started her rambling about why they were there. Neither of them were paying attention to what she was saying. They were both lost in each other's eyes. Just nodding and smiling, until it was time for the rings. When Callie nodded April away and opened her hand to place the ring that her father had just given her on Arizona's finger. Arizona looked up in confusion as Callie smiled an 'I'll explain later' look on her face. Arizona looked down at the ring again and realized it was probably her mother's ring, and Carlos had probably just given it to her. Smiling, she repeated the action with the ring Teddy had handed her, looking up she whispered, "I love you" as Callie smiled. "let me be the first to introduce Callie and Arizona Torres-Robbins" Callie heard as she felt Arizona wrap her arm around her waist and pull her in to place a soft kiss on her lips. They turned toward the family that had gathered Callie thought she'd never been so happy. As everyone moved forward, the next thing they knew they were the center of a group hug.
