Chapter 12

"oh my god" Arizona said shaking her head

"what" Callie asked looking at Arizona trying to figure out what her problem was

"look" Arizona pointed at a car up a head where Teddy was standing outside with a sign that read Arizona's name.

"awe she missed you" Callie said as she grabbed Arizona's hand and walked closer.

"sissy poo, I missed you" Teddy said embracing Arizona in a hug

"we were gone for what?" Arizona said looking at Callie who answered "2 days"

"2 days sissy I've been gone for 2 days"

"so I still missed you" Teddy said

"get in the car" Arizona said as she opened the trunk to put the bags in.

"so how was the trip" Teddy asked once everyone was in the car and they pulled away.

"it was good" Callie said

"that doesn't sound to promising" Teddy said looking over at her sister in law

"no really it was good" Callie looked back and smiled

"she had an interview with a publisher" Arizona said giving Teddy a little more insight on what happened

"oh?" Teddy said "do tell"

"I don't know much yet, he's working on the legal shit and will get back to me."

"I hope they publish it, it's good, I read it from cover to cover, before I sent it into the one in Minneapolis"

"so it was you" Callie said smiling

"ah, yeah sorry about that, I was bored and you were sleeping so I picked it up. Callie, you have a real talent for writing, it made me feel as if I was there and apart of everything" Teddy said

"see baby, I'm not the only one who thinks so"

"so you guys just wanna go home?" Teddy asked

"yeah, we need to go talk to Richard" Arizona said looking at Callie who smiled

"alright" Teddy said pulling onto their street and into the driveway. "oh before I forget April was wondering if you wanted to come for dinner tomorrow"

"we'd love to" Callie said, "thanks for picking us up"

"yeah sissy thanks" Arizona smiled as she climbed out grabbing their bags from the trunk "baby you wanna go unlock the door?" Callie smiled and headed towards the door. As Teddy finally got out of the car to help her sister with the bags.

"you know I really did miss you"

"I want to say I missed you too, but I was busy, and it was nice getting away with just Callie" Arizona smiled "oh that reminds me, I have something I want to talk to you about, but we'll do it at dinner tomorrow. I need April's input too"

"ok" Teddy smiled as they reached the door Callie was having issues unlocking.

"got that?" Arizona asked

"I can't" Callie said as she tried getting the key in one more time "ha got it" Arizona shook her head.

"alright Zo, I'll talk to you later" Teddy said giving her sister a hug after setting down the bag she was carrying

"bye" Arizona said as she shut the door behind Teddy, making her way to the couch "home" she said plopping down. It didn't take long before Callie was next to her, snuggled up close. Callie looked up "we should go talk to Richard then find some food, I know there is nothing here"

"alright" Arizona kissed the top of Callie's head as they got up.

"ladies, you're back" Richard said as they walked through the door

"why is everyone acting like we've been gone for a month?" Arizona asked looking at Callie, who shrugged her shoulders.

"can I get you anything?" Richard asked, Arizona looked at Callie and said, "I'll have a water"

"coming right up, have a seat and I'll be with you shortly" he smiled. They found a table in the corner were Arizona pulled the chair out for Callie. They shared a smile, as Callie sat down.

"did you have a good trip?" Richard asked setting the bottle of water along with a folder full of papers on the table.

"all work no pleasure" Arizona smiled.

"we didn't even make it to the beach, Arizona was busy the whole time" Callie scoured

"I wasn't the only one who was busy" Arizona said looking at Callie

"oh?" Richard smile "do tell"

"I had an interview with a publisher, they're going to publish my book" Callie said looking down.

"Callie, that's huge, why didn't you say something?"

"because she doesn't think she's good enough, and I have to say I've read it, it's damn good" Arizona said

"well then" Richard smiled "on to the reason I asked to meet with you two" he opened the folder "I have papers for you to sign"

"I'll have to go to the bank on Monday for the check" Arizona said looking at the papers

"I'm not worried about that just yet, let's get you settled in first" he said smiling. "like I said I'll be here for a while helping out" Arizona smiled "when do you have to be back in LA?"

"um a week, we start with the blind audition's, then I'll be there for at least 3 months" Richard looked up at Callie, who had the look of panic on her face. "don't worry I'll come home for a few days, or you can come out there"

"that's awesome I can't wait to watch the season" Richard smiled

"it won't air until fall, then of course I'll have to go back for the live shows" Arizona said "or something I haven't quite figured that out yet, but enough of that, let's get to this" she pointed at the papers in front of her "what do you need from us, besides our autograph"

"you're already worth a lot" Richard said smiling. Arizona shook her head as they went over everything.

xxxxxxxxxxx

"seriously, I'll go on Monday and get the check" Arizona said standing up

"like I said I'm not worried about the money, Arizona, like I've said before you two are like daughters to me, if I could have I would have just given this place to you" he smiled "oh hey I have a favor to ask"

"anything" Arizona answered
"would you be willing to play tomorrow night? The band I had booked canceled last minute, so it's either you or nothing" he smiled

"of course," Arizona smiled looking at Callie "we are having dinner with Teddy and April but I'm sure we can make it earlier, or something"

"maybe they'll do it tonight" Callie said realizing she was starting to get hungry "what time is it?"

"um" Arizona said looking at her phone "6" Callie smiled "you're hungry, aren't you?"

"yeah" Callie said shyly

"it has been awhile since we ate" Arizona said just as her stomach growled "why don't you go call them and see what they want to do"

"ok" Callie headed towards the door with her phone.

"you two are amazing" Richard smiled

"thanks" Arizona kind of chuckled

"have a good night" he smiled again standing up

"you too" Arizona said heading towards the door giving a wave to Meredith who smiled. Walking out the door she saw Callie standing next to the building on the phone. She couldn't help herself she just stopped and stared. The way the wind caught her long dark hair, and her, not to slender body, Callie wasn't fat, but she wasn't a toothpick either. She had love handles, which Arizona loved, and a little pudge around her midsection. Callie smiled when she saw Arizona staring at her. Arizona felt her face go red, 'every damn time she catches me checking her out, you get embarrassed, dammit Zo, she's your wife' she thought as she made her way over to Callie, who was in the middle of a laughing fit with who she assumed to be Teddy. "ok we'll see you then" Callie said into the phone.

"so where are we meeting them?"

"their house, April's cooking" Callie smiled

"yes! I love her cooking, southern homestyle" Arizona smiled as they made their way to the car. As always Arizona opened the door for Callie, kissing her on the cheek as she got in.

xxxxxxxx

"so, Arizona" April said as she tossed her napkin on her plate "Teddy said there's something you wanted to talk to the both of us about"

"um" Arizona said looking at Callie blankly, she had forgotten what she was going to ask. "LA, next week" Callie said helping her out

"oh right" Arizona giggled "I have to go back next Monday, I was wondering if my sissy poo would join me, you know since you don't have a job and mooch off your wife"

"I don't mooch off anyone" Teddy protested "I just happen to be in between jobs at the moment"

"if that's what you're telling yourself" Arizona smiled at her sister "calm down sissy I'm just fucking with you" Teddy just looked down in a pout "awe, come on, I didn't mean it"

Teddy looked up with a smile "I know" then looking at April "I guess it'd be up to you if I went or not"

"there's nothing for you to do around here, so I say go, have fun with your sister, while you're still young" April was a few years older than the rest, but none of them cared they all acted the same age.

"you're not that much older than us" Arizona said looking at April

"I know, but at the same time, if I was in Teddy's shoes I'd want to go" April smiled

"alright then I'll go, when do we leave?"

"not sure yet, sometime Sunday, I'll figure it out" Arizona said standing up and reaching for hers and Callie's plate. "hey" Arizona said as she turned around from the sink "I was thinking about renting a house while I'm out there filming"

"that makes more sense" April said, picking up hers and Teddy's plate and meeting Arizona at the sink "why waste all that money on a hotel room. How long are you going to be gone anyway?"

"um, I think they said filming takes 3 months, and then there's the live finale that I'll of course have to be there for"

"yeah renting a house makes more sense. Then we can come visit" April smiled

"I'll see what I can find" Arizona smiled, "so we're good, you're coming with?"

"yeah I'll go" Teddy smiled knowing the truth behind Arizona asking her was because she didn't want to be out there all alone.

Arizona looked at the time then looked at Callie, who she could tell was getting tired, no doubt because of the long day. "April, thanks for dinner, it was amazing as always, but if you don't mind, I'd like to take my wife home"

"I'm fine" Callie said, she knew Arizona could see right through it

"you have had a long day" April smiled "we'll see you tomorrow" Arizona smiled as she went to hug her friend she whispered, "thank you"

"no problem"

"come on wife, let's go home" Arizona said as she picked up Callie's purse

"bye see you tomorrow" Teddy said as she watched her sister leave. She looked at April and smiled

xxxxxxxxxx

"hey how you guys doing tonight?" Arizona called out in the mic. She could barely hear herself think, the place was packed, as soon as word got out she'd be the one playing. "I was asked to preform last minute when the band Richard had scheduled canceled, and of course I couldn't resist" she smiled as she adjusted her guitar. She didn't have time to get the band together, so she was doing what she started out doing, solo shows at The Coffee House. Arizona looked out over the crowd and found Callie, they locked eyes and smiled. Taking a deep breath, she started to strum.

I never had no one
I could count on
I've been let down so many times
I was tired of hurtin'
So tired of searchin'
'Til you walked into my life
It was a feelin'
I'd never known
And for the first time
I didn't feel alone

You're more than a lover
There could never be another
To make me feel the way you do
Oh we just get closer
I fall in love all over
Everytime I look at you
I don't know where I'd be
Without you here with me
Life with you makes perfect sense
You're my best friend
You're my best friend, oh yeah

You stand by me
And you believe in me
Like nobody ever has
When my world goes crazy
You're right there to save me
You make me see how much I have
And I still tremble
When we touch
And oh the look in your eyes
When we make love

You're more than a lover
There could never be another
To make me feel the way you do
Oh we just get closer
I fall in love all over
Everytime I look at you
And I don't know where I'd be
Without you here with me
Life with you makes perfect sense
You're my best friend
You're my best friend

You're more than a lover
There could never be another
To make me feel the way you do
Oh we just get closer
I fall in love all over
Everytime I look at you
And I don't know where I'd be
Without you here with me
Life with you makes perfect sense
You're my best friend
You're my best friend (my best friend)
You're my best friend (my best friend)

'god I love this' Arizona thought to herself as she finished her first song, seeing the crowd in front of her cheering. She moved on to the next, hoping Callie wouldn't read too much into the songs she sang. Most of them were wrote while they were apart, of course those would be the ones that hit number one. She played a couple more songs. "thanks guys, I think it's time for a short break, I'll be back in ten" she smiled, setting her guitar next to the stool and headed for Callie. Wrapping her arms around her kissing her cheek.

"you never cease to amaze me" Richard said as he handed her a bottle of water. She nodded her thank you as she downed half the bottle. "I'm surprised you haven't mentioned anything to the crowd about taking over" he smiled

"should I?" Arizona asked taking a drink

"that's up to you" Richard smiled as he turned around and went to help Meredith.

"hmm" Arizona said looking at Callie

"go for it" Callie smiled

"ok" Arizona said kissing her cheek, "I have to use the bathroom before I get back up there" Callie nodded and smiled watching her wife walk away.

xxxxxxxxxxx

"are we still doing good?" Arizona asked into the mic as the crowd made noise. "awesome" she smiled "you all may notice some changes around here in the coming months, that's because there's going to be change in ownership" she found Callie in the crowd, with April and Teddy standing next to her. "my wife, Callie and I have purchased this wonderful establishment" she paused as the crowd went wild "anyway back to the music. This next one, I wrote recently, and haven't played in front of anyone yet, so let me know what you think" her hands found the right notes without even looking down, her eyes found Callie's as she started the song.

You're the air that I breathe
The sun when it breaks through the clouds
You're all that I need
But I know that you're having some doubts
I'm down on my knees
I pray you'll stick this out
Beggin' you please girl
I'm sorry I let you down

I'm broken like a promise
I'm shattered like a dream
I'm broken with all my pieces scattered 'round for you to see
I'm broken like record
I sing the same old song
I'm broken like the heart of a man that's run away from love too long
Girl what about you
What about you girl

It's so hard to speak
I can barely look you in the eye
It's so hard to breathe
I know I ain't afraid to die
Your breath is so sweet
Your kisses could get me high
My heart is so weak
But your loving could get me by

I'm broken like a promise
I'm shattered like a dream
I'm broken with all my pieces scattered 'round for you to see
I'm broken like record
I sing the same old song
I'm broken like the heart of a man that's run away from love too long
Girl what about you
What about you girl

I'm broken like a promise
I'm shattered like a dream
I'm broken with all my pieces scattered 'round for you to see
I'm broken like record
I sing the same old song
I'm broken like the heart of a man that's run away from love too long
Girl what about you
What about you girl
Girl what about you
What about you girl
Girl what about you

She was surprised to see everyone on their feet. Callie hadn't even heard the last song, she just finished it before they left for LA. Smiling she round through the rest of her mental set list, as the night came to a close. "thank you everyone for coming out, it was a pleasure playing for you" smiling she turned the mic off, and set her guitar down next to the stool.

"what the hell was that song?" April asked handing her a bottle of water.

"um" Arizona cleared her throat, which was a little raspy from singing "something I was working on" she braced herself for April to yell at her. She hadn't recorded anything in a while, and hadn't played since the last tour, or was it the wedding? Arizona couldn't remember, either way it had been awhile

"well I loved it, you need to get in and record again" April smiled

"I will, after I'm done in LA" Arizona smiled as she took a drink

"alright fair enough, you were amazing, and I've heard people talking about your takeover of this place, I think it's going to be great"

"you're just saying that because you'll get free coffee" Arizona laughed as she felt a pair of arms wrap around her, leaning into them she moaned quietly. No better place than in Callie's arms.

"maybe, maybe not" April winked

"come on let's help clean up" Arizona said to Callie

"suppose I have to get used to it" Callie always worked during the day, there was only a handful of times in the past 10 years she had to close.

As the placed cleared out, Arizona took a look around, smiling. "what's with the goofy smile?" Callie asked

"huh? Oh um, I was just thinking soon this will be ours" Arizona said wrapping her arms around Callie, who didn't say anything she just looked around, and smiled.

"thanks for helping girls, but you can go, I have it from here" Richard said from behind the counter

"are you sure?" Callie said "we're going to have to" Richard cut her off "yes I'm sure, go, enjoy your time together before Arizona leaves, I'll see you in the morning"

"fine" Callie sighed, remembering she had to work in the morning

"let's go wife" Arizona said pulling her towards the door, grabbing her purse on the way.

For Callie the week seemed to fly by, the next thing she knew it was Saturday. She sat on the bed watching Arizona pack her bag. "what time does your flight leave?" she asked not bothering to hide the sadness in her tone

"noon" Arizona replied not looking up, knowing if she did, one of them would start to cry, if not both.

"did Teddy decide how long she was staying?" Callie asked trying to keep the conversation flowing, so her mind wouldn't get the best of her.

"I don't know, I haven't asked her. I do know that she's going to help me look for a place to rent" Arizona said zipping her bag and tossing it on the floor. Callie didn't say anything, just sat there staring at the bag Arizona had just dropped to the floor. Until she felt Arizona's hand on her knee. "hey, I know you're sad, but we'll see each other soon, and remember I'm doing this so you can have your dream" she said softly

"I know, I just hate being away from you" Callie sniffled

"I know, me too, but it'll be ok, you'll be out there in a couple weeks" Arizona said reaching up to make Callie look at her. Looking in those beautiful chocolate orbs "I love you" she said as she placed a kiss on Callie's lips. Callie pulled Arizona in closer, as she pushed herself back on the bed, where Arizona was laying on top of her. She pulled back from the kiss, "I love you too" Arizona took that as an invitation, as she straddled Callie. Sitting up to take off her shirt, she felt Callie reach up and unclasp her bra, then leaning up, she took one of Arizona's breasts in her mouth, her tongue rolling around the nipple. "mm, it's a good thing I'm done packing" Arizona whispered. She saw Callie look up at her, as she bit down on her nipple. "ouch" Arizona squealed as Callie began to lick it with the flat of her tongue. Arizona smiled, knowing why she did it, she relaxed and let Callie take her to that magical place she often visited.
