Chapter 20
Waking up alone was hard, Arizona rolled over, praying against all odds Callie would be next to her, disappointed to find the spot next to her empty, she sighed, reaching for the pillow pulling it close. Taking a deep breath, the smell of Callie's shampoo, engulfed her nose, as a smile graced her face. "another 2 months" she sighed, staring at the ceiling, she heard Teddy in the living room, move something she smiled "at least I have my sissy" slinging her legs over the side of the bed she stretched and made her way to the bathroom, to shower. Once showered and dressed, she made her way to the living room hearing a loud thud and Teddy whisper "shit"
"what the hell are you doing out here?"
"um" Teddy looked down at her phone which she had just dropped, Arizona assumed that was the sound she just heard "I was" Arizona rolled her eyes while shaking her head "there's coffee"
"why are you up?"
"I'm not sure" Teddy said confused at why she was awake, when she had nothing to do. "I guess, um" she started to say
"well since you're up do you want to come with me today?" Arizona asked pouring herself some coffee
"I'd love too, do I have time to?"
"shower? Please do" Arizona nodded towards the bathroom, she watched as her sister disappeared "hmm, she's acting weird" Arizona mumbled to herself, taking a drink.

"we aren't doing much today, just some practice sessions on the song Addy and Jess are singing together, the show isn't until next week" Arizona said, making their way into the room that Arizona used.
"that's cool" Teddy smiled "thank you for letting me tag along"
"no problem" Arizona smiled setting her bag down on the chair, she watched her sister look around the room. She hadn't been herself lately "hey Teds"
"yeah?"
"is everything alright?" Arizona asked
"um, yeah, why do you ask?" Teddy looked at Arizona forcing a smile
"you've been" Arizona sighed "you've been acting different lately"
"oh, um" Teddy started to say as the door burst open. Arizona watched as Teddy's face changed, seeing Addy.
"we'll finish this conversation later" Arizona said seeing Teddy nod. "good morning ladies, I trust you both had a good weekend?"
"I did" Jessie smiled "your party was awesome" she sang out the word awesome. Arizona looked toward Addy, who was stopped in her tracks at seeing Teddy. Arizona cleared her throat still waiting on her answer. "I had a good weekend" Addy said softly, shaking her head.
"alright, well let's get started" she pulled some papers out of her bag and started going over what she wanted to accomplish for the day. Looking up at her sister, she saw her pull her phone out, walking to the other side of the room. All Arizona could hear was Teddy tell the caller, who she assumed to be April, that she was with her for the day, then a mumbled an I love you too. Shaking her head, she turned to the girls, "alright let's get started" they ran through the song a few times, Arizona giving her input where it was needed. Looking at the clock, noting it was noon, her stomach was growling, she looked over at the door, as if right on cue, Miley was on the other side of it. She waved her in, smiling "give me a minute, we're almost done here"
"no problem, take your time" Miley smiled taking a seat next to Teddy
"alright ladies that's lunch, we'll pick it up when we get back" Arizona said standing up, stretching her back. Sitting like she had been always did on number on her.
"are you coming with us?" Miley asked looking at Teddy
"I, um" Teddy stammered out, Arizona caught a look at Addy "I was going to go with her"
Arizona had to bite her tongue, she could see what was going on, not wanting to admit it, she knew her sister after all, she nodded "do you need some money?"
"um" Teddy thought for a minute, smiled shyly and nodded, Arizona shook her head, reaching for her wallet, handing Teddy some money "you know eventually you're going to have to get a job"
"I know, I wanted to talk to you about that" Teddy smiled "but later"
"ok, well have fun, be back by 2" Arizona said looking at Addy
"I will" Addy smiled as she and Teddy headed out
"what's that all about" Miley asked confused
"I don't know" Arizona sighed, rolling her eyes "I'm not sure if I want to know"
"right" Miley said standing up "shall we?" Arizona nodded

The next day Arizona was on the phone with Callie, when the doorbell rang "baby hold on someone is at the door"
"who?" Callie asked through the phone
"I don't know, I have to open it to find out" Arizona laughed, she heard Callie snicker on the other end, as she pulled open the door, seeing Addy on the other side.
"hi" Addy smiled shyly
"hi" Arizona said, her phone still up to her ear, she heard Callie ask "who is it?"
"I'm sorry, um" Addy said looking down "is Teddy here?"
"um" Arizona said looking behind her "no she's not"
"oh" Addy dropped her head in disappointment, Arizona stepped back and nodded for her to come in saying into the phone "baby, I have to go, I'll call you later"
"it's ok, it's late, I'm headed to bed"
"ok"
"I'll call you tomorrow, I love you" Callie said
"ok, I love you too" Arizona said hanging up the phone tossing it on the coffee table, nodding for Addy to have a seat "Teddy got a call earlier from a friend from back home, apparently she's out here on vacation and wanted to get together" she explained
"oh" Addy sighed looking around
"hey" Arizona said softly "what's going on?"
"well" Addy took a deep breath looking Arizona in the eye "I'm sure you know what's going on" Arizona couldn't help but close her eyes and sigh "Addy, she's married"
"I know, I feel so ashamed" she said putting her head in her hands
"does she know?"
"yes" was all she could get out
"is that why she wanted to stay?" Arizona said taking a deep breath, not knowing if she wanted to know the answer or not, Addy looked up into Arizona's eyes "yes"
"wow one-word answers, I don't think I've ever heard you talk so little"
"I'm sorry Arizona, please don't hate me" Addy pleaded
"I could never hate you, this is between you and my sister, although I would have rather heard it from her, at least I know about it now" Arizona sighed
"I feel so bad, April is such an amazing person, and the thought" she stopped
"has anything happened?"
"no" Addy held Arizona's eyes "right now it's just feelings, if you understand"
Arizona nodded "I do" she sighed "come on, let's go for a walk on the beach, it always relaxes me" Addy smiled a half smile following Arizona towards the beach.

They walked a ways in silence, Arizona deciding that she'd let Addy bring it up. "you know, I never thought I'd meet anyone, especially out here, away from everything I know" Addy started to say, Arizona let her talk knowing she couldn't trust anyone else. Jessie was a good person, but as far as Arizona could tell she wasn't trustworthy, she was the kind of person if she had some dirt on you, she'd use it to her advantage "let alone someone who is happily married"
"I don't know how happy they are" Arizona said, "does Teddy feel the same?"
"I honestly don't know" Addy stopped looking up at Arizona "she hasn't said"
"well" Arizona sighed "that's for the two of you to discuss, as much as I love the fact that she married my best friend, I also know that life works in mysterious ways, and maybe Teddy and April weren't meant to be together"
"what are you saying?"
"I don't know what I'm saying" Arizona laughed "all I know, is I found my other half, and all I want is for my sister to find hers, and if it's not April, then" she stopped shrugging her shoulders.
Addy smiled "thank you"
"for?"
"not wanting to rip my head off" Addy laughed
"I wouldn't do that" Arizona stopped walking and looked at her "I just don't want to see anyone get hurt, but I know it's inevitable"
"there you go with the big words again" Addy laughed
"yeah, you know me" Arizona laughed "come on, let's go find some dinner, I'm starving" they headed back towards the house, Arizona was searching through the freezer "my mom cooked a bunch of stuff and froze it for me" Arizona laughed "I'm not much for cooking, Callie always does that"
"that's cool"
"how about some lasagna?"
"sounds good" Addy smiled, watching Arizona pull it out of the freezer tossing it in the microwave.

Arizona was putting the dishes in the sink when she heard the front door open, "wow this place is amazing"
"yeah Callie wants her to buy it" Teddy said "you should see the view from the deck, when we came to look at it, the sun was setting. Oh my god it was amazing"
"nothing like back home huh?" Miranda laughed
"no" Teddy smiled as they rounded the corner to the kitchen "oh your home"
"yup I'm home" Arizona said, "hi Miranda how are you"
"I'm good, I saw Callie a few weeks ago"
"yeah she told me your mom was asking a ton of questions about me" Arizona laughed
"yeah, she does that" Miranda said looking down, "that poor guy" she laughed
"I'm sure Richard loved it, he's a lonely man, and is going to miss it" Arizona smiled "oh I'm sorry where are my manners. Miranda this is Addison, she's one of the last contestants on my team"
"hello" Miranda smiled
"she's from Minneapolis" Teddy said softly, as she met Addy's eyes
"midwestern girl" Miranda smiled
"yup" Addy said breaking eye contact with Teddy "Arizona I should" Arizona nodded
"I'll, um, I'll walk you out" Teddy said, "I'll be right back" she whispered to Miranda, who gave Arizona a confused look. Arizona shrugged her shoulders, watching the two disappear out the door. "guess they became friends huh?" Miranda said
"you can say that"
"Teddy's married right?" Miranda asked
"yes, she is, she got married a few months after I did" Arizona nodded towards the table
"she didn't mention anything about it" Miranda said confused "although when I saw her a few weeks ago she did introduce me to someone, I'm not sure if she said wife or not"
"well, they've been fighting a lot, part of why she stayed here with me" Arizona said hearing her sister come back in
"this is an amazing place you have here, I agree with Callie about buying it" Miranda said changing the subject
"I'm working on it, still have to call the landlord" Arizona smiled, looking at the clock "well I have a few things I need to do before I can turn in. Miranda it was nice seeing you again, we'll have to get together when I get back"
"sure thing, good night" Miranda smiled

About an hour later Arizona heard the door open and shut, knowing Miranda had left. Arizona took a deep breath, hearing her sister head down the hallway and a soft knock on her door. Arizona looked up, and smiled "hi"
"hi, sorry, you busy?" Teddy asked
"no, I'm just fucking around on Facebook" Arizona laughed "come on in" she moved her laptop out of the way.
"I, um" Teddy sighed "I need to talk to you about something, and I'm assuming you already know what it is seeing what I walked in on tonight"
"Addison?"
"yes" Teddy nodded
"you're finding you have feelings for her?" Arizona asked, as Teddy nodded "what about April?"
"I love April, but I don't think I'm in love with her" Teddy sighed "I don't know if I ever was"
Arizona sighed "just be careful"
"that's all?"
"yes, no" Arizona smiled reaching for her sister's hand "my suggestion to you is to take the next few weeks, and think, really think, about everything, call Callie if you need, talk to mom, they both have some good advice, and know that I'll support you in whatever decision you make" she went on, feeling her phone vibrate she picked it up "oh" a smile spread across her face "apparently Callie's still up"
"I bet she is" Teddy smiled
"I'm going to call my wife, I suggest you do the same, before she figures out something is going on. The last thing we both need is a crazy April calling, or better yet, showing up here freaking out" Teddy nodded standing up leaving the room "Arizona" she said stopping at the door, Arizona looked at her "thank you" Arizona smiled at her sister and nodded.

"alright great job girls, I'll see you tomorrow" Arizona said, she busied herself with getting her things ready
"Arizona" she heard Addy say
"yeah" she said not even looking up
"I, ah, never mind" Addy said, "have a good night"
Arizona sighed, closing her eyes "Addy wait" Addy turned around at the door "I'm sorry if I'm coming off wrong, I just" she took a deep breath "Teddy is my sister, and April, April is one of my best friends, and you have become a big part of my life, so if I'm coming off wrong I'm sorry"
"it's ok" Addy smiled
"what did you need?" Arizona asked quietly
"I was wondering if you'd like to join us for dinner tonight, Teddy and me that is, we were going to check out that place not far from the house that's on the beach"
"does my sister know you're asking me?"
"she's the one who told me to ask, she thought maybe it would" Addy said nervously. Arizona took a deep breath and smiled "I'd love to, if you'll give me a minute to get this cleaned up we can ride together" she motioned with her hands at the pile of papers she had everywhere
Addy nodded and said "I'll meet you outside, I'm in need of some nicotine"
"ditto on that" Arizona said quickly tossing the messy stack of papers into her bag, and tossing it over her shoulder "I'm ready" Addy smiled as they walked out together, once outside they both lit a cigarette "you guys haven't gone to Disney Land yet have you?"
"no" Addy said letting out the smoke she just inhaled "I think we were doing that this weekend, did you want to join us?"
"ah no, I've had enough of rides and shit to last me the rest of my life" Arizona said thinking about how tired she was after their last trip to Disney Land "besides Adam and I are supposed to be getting together to work on that song, and Miley wants to"
"wow you're busy"
"I like it that way, makes me miss Callie less" Arizona smiled
"you two are perfect for each other"
"thanks" Arizona smiled "she makes it easy to be me"
"tell me about The Coffee House"
"why you interested in a job?" Arizona laughed as they both finished their smoked she opened the car door, so Addy could slide in
"maybe, if this doesn't pan out, I'm pretty sure after all this April won't keep her offer"
"I know she will" Arizona smiled "April is old school, and she never lets her personal life get in the way of her work, she sees how good you are. Besides if she does, I'll go over her head and take you to Brad myself" Arizona smiled, the rest of the drive was in comfortable silence. Arizona was lost in her thoughts of what would happen if Teddy decided to go ahead with whatever was blossoming between the two of them. She hoped she was right when she said April didn't let her personal life affect her work, she would never be able to find a better manager, and would she lose a best friend. Her thoughts were running wild when her cell phone rang as they were pulling up to the house.
"hey baby" Arizona smiled into the phone
"did I catch you at a bad time?" Callie's voice rang out into the phone
"nope we're just pulling up to the house"
"Teddy went with you again?"
"no" Arizona shook her head
"Miley?"
"nope, why do you miss her?"
"well sort of, I miss someone swooning all over me"
"better watch what you say" Arizona joked
"who's' with you then?" Callie asked
"Addy"
"why is she with you?" Callie asked confused. Arizona realized she hadn't said anything at all to Callie about what she was going on between her sister and her team mate. "um" she said getting out of the car, she pulled the phone away from her ear "go on in, I'll be a minute" she pointed at the phone, thanked the driver and made her way to the front step, she needed to sit down if she was going to have this conversation with her wife. "sorry, about that"
"it's ok" Callie said "Zona, what's going on?"
"well" Arizona sighed "the fourth of July, we were all sitting around talking, and Teddy and Addy seemed to be getting along pretty well and with all the fighting lately"
"oh my god no way, Teddy is not" Callie exclaimed into the phone
"no, at least I don't think so, god I hope not" Arizona went on
"what's going to happen?"
"I don't know" Arizona said rubbing her temples "I told her to take some time and think long and hard about it. Addy has also talked to me, and well I have to say Teddy has a lot to consider"
"she seemed like a good kid" Callie said
"she is, but she's not a kid she's the same age as us" Arizona laughed "anyway, I guess the three of us are having dinner tonight maybe I can get more out of them, if not, I guess I'll wait until they come to me"
"wow, that's a lot to take in"
"you're telling me" Arizona sighed "enough of that, how was your day?"
"mine? Well mine wasn't as eventful as yours" Callie laughed
"oh, that wasn't today" Arizona sighed that was a few days ago"
"and you're just telling me now?"
"we've had other things on our minds, plus I didn't want to waste what little time we had on the phone to discuss my sister"
"fair enough" Callie smiled "I miss you"
"I miss you too, beautiful"
"you're making me blush" Callie confessed
"it doesn't take much" Arizona giggled Callie went on about how her day went, Arizona told her about how the girls were doing. "alright baby I'm gonna go I'm starving"
"ok" Callie said sadly
"we can facetime later" Arizona said hoping Callie could hear the wink
"was hoping you'd say that" Callie smiled "I love you talk to you soon"
"I love you too" Arizona smiled hanging up the phone. Arizona stood from the step grabbing her bag, heading into the house, she found Addy and Teddy sitting together on the couch watching tv. "good you're off the phone, can we go now?" Teddy smiled
"yeah just give me a second, I wanna put this in my room" she held up her bag, not making eye contact with her sister, and her too close for comfort friend. She loved Addy but given the situation she wasn't too comfortable with it. She shook her head tossed her bag on her bed and headed back out "alright let's go, are we walking?"
"sure, why not" Addy said looking at Teddy who smiled. It was at that moment that Arizona realized maybe what they were feeling was right, Teddy hadn't ever looked like that with April. Shaking her head to clear that thought as they walked. Once they were seated at the restaurant Teddy set her phone on the table, as soon as she set it down it went off with a call from April. Arizona looked up at her sister who hit the silent button. "you should answer that you know" Arizona said
"we're having dinner"
"I know but you could have told her that" Arizona scolded, as her phone started going off with April's ringtone "now I have to explain why you didn't take her call"
"just tell her I left my phone at the house"
"I'm not lying for you" Arizona said as she hit the answer button "what's up?"
"hi" April said somberly "how are you?"
"I'm good, just having some dinner"
"is Teddy with you?"
"where else would she be?"
"I don't know, just seems like lately" Arizona cut her off "let's not go there again, she left her phone at the house" Arizona said looking up at her sister who smiled
"oh that'd be why she didn't answer"
"yup" Arizona said keeping eye contact with Teddy
"can I talk to her" Arizona saw Teddy shake her head no "yeah hold on" Arizona said handing the phone to Teddy, covering the mouth piece as she passed it she whispered, "just tell her it's about to die"
Teddy smiled knowing her sister always had her back, and nodded "hi" she said into the phone Teddy went on with one-word replies "Arizona why is your phone making a weird noise?"
"because the battery is dying" Arizona said so April could hear her
"hey the phone is dying, I'll call you back when I get home" Teddy said, Arizona could hear April say something, then "I love you"
"yup love you too" Teddy said quickly and hung up the phone
"I hated lying to her"
"I know you did, but I appreciate it" Teddy said looking at Addy, "sorry"
"it's ok" Addy smiled a half smile, knowing what they were doing was wrong but at the same time nothing had happen yet, they were just two friends getting to know each other.
"so" Arizona said clearing her throat "can I have some answers please?"
"um" Teddy looked at Addy who said "of course"
"what's really going on?"
"um" Addy looked down "well," she felt Teddy's hand on her leg beneath the table
"I want the truth not some half assed answer. I've told you I'd support you" Arizona said looking her sister in the eye
"like I told you, I'm not in love with April, I honestly don't think I ever was." Teddy stopped taking a deep breath
"you just started dating her because Callie and I were back together, and you were lonely?" Arizona said almost reading Teddy's mind. Teddy nodded "but why did you get married? Teddy this isn't like your past relationships, you can't just say you want out and leave, now you have to file papers and go through all that legal shit" Arizona explained
"I don't know, I guess seeing how happy you and Callie were, are, I wanted that, I still want that" Teddy felt Addy's hand over hers under the table "I've looked it up, since we've only been married for a few months we can get an annulment" Teddy said.
"and this is what you want?" Arizona asked
Teddy nodded "I think it is"
"you think? Or you know?"
"look Arizona, I wasn't expecting to come out here and meet someone, let alone your married sister, but I did, and honestly I couldn't' be happier" Addy said "I know we've got a lot to work through, but I'm willing to wait"
Arizona sighed not knowing what else to say, she met her sister's eyes again "you need to tell April, I'm not doing this for you got it" Teddy nodded "alright now let's change the subject to something more dinner appropriate"
"Arizona, nothing has happened"
"I will keep my hands to myself until she tells April" Addy smiled "it'll be hard, but I'll do it" Arizona smiled as the food came and they ate their dinner in silence.

"so who do you think is going to win" Teddy asked on their way back to the house
"that's easy" Arizona said "you're walking next to her"
"oh I don't know about that" Addy laughed
"well like I said if you don't win, I'll make sure you get a record deal, you have my word on that" Arizona smiled
"hey is it true the final four get new cars?"
"that I'm not sure about, when I was on the show no one turned around" Arizona said, "I can ask Miley" the words no farther than got out of Arizona's mouth and her phone went off
Hey I saw you leave with Addy, what's going on there? ~M
"speak of the devil" Arizona laughed
Nothing just had dinner with her and Teddy ~A

Wait, Addy wants to know if it's true the final four get a car ~A
"I asked her"
"ok" Addy smiled "my mom asked me that, and I couldn't answer her, we could really use a new car. Hell, I could use a job" she laughed
"speaking of jobs" Teddy said looking at Arizona
"you'll have to talk to Callie about that, I'm just going to be doing the behind the scenes shit"
"ok" Teddy smiled
"and as far as you go, I'll make sure you have something set up as soon as I'm back home" she felt her phone go off

"it's true you get a brand-new Camry" Arizona said as they reached the steps she headed up, but Teddy and Addy stayed down on the beach
"cool" Addy said
"um, we're gonna take a walk, give you some privacy to talk to Callie" Teddy said
"ok, just don't keep her out too late, we've got a big day tomorrow" Arizona said
"will do" Teddy smiled nodding towards the beach, Arizona made her way up the stairs but stopped watching her sister. She saw Addy reach for Teddy's hand, she couldn't help it when a smile appeared on her face. No she didn't like the situation but she could tell Teddy was completely herself when it came to Addy. She sighed and went into the house, grabbing a soda before she headed to her bedroom, pulling out her laptop just as she predicted Callie was on waiting for her. She hit the call button, and within a few seconds she saw the beauty that took her breath away. "hi" Callie whispered
"hi yourself, you look tired" Arizona said
"I am we had a rough day, first the espresso machine sprang a leak, and then the toilet in the men's bathroom ran over we had water everywhere" Callie went into more detail then she had earlier on the phone.
"oh no" Arizona laughed "was Richard there?"
"no, he took the week off since I'm back"
"so you had to handle all that yourself?" Arizona asked trying not to laugh
"yes, I called him, he said it was good practice for when we take over"
"he's got a point"
"but when we take over, you'll be home"
"unless I go out on tour" Arizona said
"yeah" Callie said "wait what?"
"I'm joking baby, after all this I may have to find a new manager" Arizona said shaking her head
"its that bad huh?" Callie asked, seeing the look on Arizona's face she didn't need an answer "well I hope Teddy knows what she's doing"
"she does, Callie, if you'd see them together, it's like they were meant for each other"
"what about April?"
"I think she settled for April, she doesn't feel like she's good enough for anyone else" Arizona said looking at the computer screen
"thinking back, I see it now" Callie said sitting back on the bed. Seeing Callie stretch out Arizona's heart skipped a beat "my god you're gorgeous"
"stop" Callie said turning red
"I miss you so much"
"how long until your home?" Callie asked
"soon"
"not soon enough" Callie sighed
"I know" Arizona said "I love you"
"I love you too, but I should go it's getting late, and I have an early day tomorrow" Callie said somberly
"I know, have a good night beautiful I love you"
"you already said that" Callie laughed
"and I'll keep saying it until I die" Arizona stuck her tongue out
"I love you too, good night"
"good night my love" Arizona said shutting the computer screen. Putting it on her night stand she heard movement in the living room and the front door open and close. She got up from the bed and made her way out. Seeing Teddy sitting on the couch. Looking forward as if she was lost in her thoughts "hey" she said quietly
"hi" Teddy sighed
"everything alright?" Arizona said sitting down
"you tell me?" Teddy shook her head
"has anything happened yet?" Arizona asked "I mean like have you kissed?"
"no" Teddy sighed "just some hand holding" Teddy shook her head "How can I be doing this?"
"well, like you told me when I met Callie, you know if it's right or not"
"yeah but you were single when you met Callie" Teddy sighed
"you need to talk to April" Arizona said looking Teddy in the eye "in person"
"I don't want to go home" Teddy looked at her sister
"I know I don't want you to, believe it or not I enjoy coming home to someone even if it is you" Teddy sighed "why don't we get her to fly out here, and you two can talk, maybe it'll be easier"
"you just want her to bring Callie with"
"Callie can't get any more time off for a while, Richard is on vacation, then Meredith is going, and the list goes on"
"maybe that'd work"
"try it, what's the worst that can happen?"
"she could beat me" Teddy looked up at her sister
"and I'll be here to take her if she does. I'm sure everything will be ok, if you're honest with her. Tell her what's on your mind and heart."
"that's hard to do"
"I know it is, but I see it Teddy, I see how you are with Addy, I can tell she makes you happy, truly happy, and although she said she'd wait, she's not going to wait forever"
"I know" Teddy sighed again "what time is it back home?"
"9" Arizona said
"I'll go call her now, maybe get this taken care of by next week"
"good before the show" Arizona smiled
"that's all your thinking about?" Teddy laughed
"hey you give her what she wants, she's more apt to win this thing, and I don't know about you, but I want her to win"
