Chapter 21

The plane touched down, with a thump, the wheels screeching as they touch the tarmac. This was the part that always made Callie nervous, she could handle everything else it was the landing that got her, and knowing her dad wasn't at the controls, made her take a deep breath. The plane slowed as the flight attendant came over the speakers saying their usual routine, for everyone to stay seated, blah blah blah. Callie wasn't listening to them, she was more concentrated on the person sitting next to her who was about to get her heart broke. Arizona was meeting them at the airport, although she had no idea Callie was coming with, it was a spur of the moment decision made by Callie, they were only going to be gone for the weekend, so she talked Richard into giving her the days off, promising to work for a week straight, knowing April would need her, or someone. Looking over at April sitting in the seat beside her, she sighed. As the plane pulled up to the gate, "you ready?"

"yup, let's go see our wives" April smiled, when Teddy had asked her to come she was all excited at the thought of spending the weekend with her. When she told Callie as much, Callie felt a lump in her throat knowing why Teddy wanted to see her. "Arizona is going to flip when she sees you"

"I know I can't wait" Callie laughed, as they made their way through the airport, and out the doors "damn it's hot here"

"I know" April sighed pulling her sunglasses on. "there she is" she said seeing Arizona up ahead standing outside the car. "3, 2, 1" April counted down until Arizona saw Callie

"and what the hell are you doing here missy?" Arizona said wrapping her arms around her wife

"I figured since it was just for the weekend I'd come too" there was more she wanted to say but didn't with April standing right next to her. "I hope you're not mad"

"nope, could never be mad at you, I'm glad you came" she placed a kiss on Callie's lips. "you ready?" she looked at April who nodded. Climbing into the car, April sat quietly for a bit "so do you have any idea why Teddy needed me to come out so bad?"

"um" Arizona looked at Callie "I do, but I'm not saying anymore" she said not wanting to lie.

"ok" April said turning her head towards the window, the rest of the drive was quiet.

xxxxxxxxxxxx

"hey, I didn't know you were coming" Teddy said meeting them at the car.

"last minute" Callie smiled following Arizona into the house. Teddy nodded, as she caught sight of April. Taking a deep breath, she gave April a hug and kissed her cheek.

"so, I'm here"

"I see that" Teddy forced a smile "shall we?" she nodded towards the house reaching for April's bag. Once inside the bedroom, April sat down on the bed "so what was so important you needed to see me in person"

"um" Teddy hesitated "I missed you" she lied, deciding she didn't want to have the talk right now.

"I missed you too" April stood up, wrapping Teddy in her arms. Teddy was tense, when she felt Teddy take a deep breath she pulled back. "ok, what's really going on?"

"I" she started letting out a sigh "we need to talk"

"I think I need to sit down"

"how about a walk?"

"Teddy, I just got here, I" she looked in those blue eyes sighing "alright" she had a feeling this wasn't going to end well. Heading out into the living room where Arizona and Callie had already made themselves comfortable, cuddling on the couch, having that who loves who more argument. Teddy said, "we're going for a walk, be back soon"

"ok" Arizona said not taking her eyes off Callie. Looking up once they heard the door shut.

"she's not doing it tonight is she" Callie asked

"I have no idea, but looks that way" Arizona sighed "we should prepare to pick up the pieces when they get back"

"April is probably going to want to go stay at a hotel" Callie said, thinking she should go with her, but didn't want to leave Arizona

"I hope not" Arizona wrapped her arms around Callie "you just got here, I'm not ready to let you go yet" Callie pushed Arizona back on the couch climbing on top of her she whispered, "I'm not either" she crashed into her kissing her hard.

xxxxxxxxxxxx

It was at least an hour later if not more when April came bursting into the house in tears. Arizona looked at Callie "uh oh" Callie gave her a sad smile "which one do you want?"

"you get April, you know her better"

"I hope she wants to talk to me" Arizona sighed "with everything I might be the last person she wants"

"doesn't hurt to find out"

"right" Arizona stood up, leaning down giving Callie a kiss "I love you"

"you're acting like you'll never see me again" Callie laughed

"I might not, she might have my head" Arizona giggled "I'll be back"

xxxxxx

Callie sighed seeing Teddy walk up the stairs, getting off the couch she met her sister in law on the deck "care to talk about it?"

"what's there to talk about?" Teddy said plopping down in a chair and lighting a smoke "I just broke her heart"

"well" Callie said sitting next to her "it's better to do it now then wait, it could be worse" Teddy looked at her, and gave her a small smile "I'm glad you're here"

"I am too" Callie smiled "so" she said looking back into the house "what do you say we take a walk, I want to hear all about" she stopped not sure if she should finish that statement with April right inside. Teddy smiled and nodded she'd been dying to tell someone other than Arizona. The two stood and made their way to the beach.

xxxxxxxxxxxx

"I knew there was something going on" April cried into the pillow

"what?" Arizona asked, it was hard to understand her with her face buried in the pillow

"with Teddy, I knew she was cheating on me"

"whoa, back up, first off she hasn't cheated on you"

"you're taking her side?"

"I'm not taking anyone's side here. You're my best friend and she's my sister I love you both" Arizona said as she went on, with what she knew of the situation.

"I can't stay here" April stood picking up her bag she didn't even have time to unpack

"stay in my room, Callie and I will sleep in the living room"

"no, I'm going to a hotel, or maybe I can get a flight back today"

"April"

"no Arizona" April said looking Arizona in the eye "I can't be around you right now. I'm going to go home" Arizona looked down at the floor "home to Georgia"

"what?" Arizona exclaimed

"I need to clear my head"

"we won't be home for at least another couple months" Arizona said, "there's no need to"

"I'll talk to Brad about finding you a new manager"

"April, that's absurd, I don't want a new manager" Arizona protested

"I just need some time" April said sitting on the edge of the bed "how could this happen, I was, we were"

"I could explain it, but it'd just hurt a lot more, I'm sorry" Arizona said bending down, so she was eye level

"maybe after it heals a bit?" April looked at her, Arizona nodded, leaning forward to take her in her arms, "come on cry it out"

"why do you two have to be sisters" April sobbed, Arizona patted her shoulders. "come on let's get you settled in my room for the night, and we'll start fresh tomorrow, you still want to go home, then I'll go with you to the airport" Arizona whispered as April sighed nodding.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

"hey" April almost whispered walking into the living room, where they were watching tv.

"I'll just" Teddy said standing up from the chair she was sitting in

"no, sit" April motioned for Teddy to sit back down "it's ok, I, um I've been talking to my mom, and she, we, decided that I'm going home for a spell"

"April" Arizona started to protest

"Arizona, this won't affect our relationship. I'm still your manager. It's only going to be for a month or so" April went on "you won't be home anyway"

"then why go? I mean if I'm not going to be there why leave?" Teddy asked

"because, I think I need my mom right now more than anything" April said, looking at Arizona who nodded saying "ok"

"as for you" she turned to Teddy, "we need to talk some more, but not tonight I'm going to stay the weekend like we had planned" she nodded towards Callie, who nodded back at her. Taking a deep breath April sat down on the chair opposite Teddy "now that that is settled, what are you watching?"

"some doctor show" Arizona shrugged

"I wasn't too into it at first but then there was a bomb inside a man and" Callie said

"that chick right there put her hand inside the body to keep it from exploding" Arizona laughed pointing at the tv

"hmm" April said sitting back in the chair.

"we can start it over" Callie smiled holding up the remote

"no, it's ok, I'll figure it out" April gave a half smile. She knew she wasn't going to pay much attention to the movie anyway. Her thoughts were getting the best of her. She kept glancing at Teddy.

Arizona looked over at her sister, when she heard Teddy's phone vibrate. She saw her try not to smile. She assumed the text must have been from Addy.

"now what?" Callie asked once the show was over

"I guess we should think about dinner?" Arizona said noting the time

"dinner would be amazing I'm starving" Callie smiled

"I'm going to go for a walk" Teddy said standing up

"are you going to" Arizona started to ask, "I'll be back in a bit, just need to make a call" Teddy stated, sighing looking at April.

"ok" Arizona sighed, knowing this weekend was going to be a long one, even with Callie here.

xxxxxxxxxxxxx

"I'm having a hard time understanding where everything went wrong. I thought we were doing good. What could I have possibly done wrong to make your eyes wander?" April said trying to keep the unshed tears in her eyes.

"you didn't do anything wrong" Teddy whispered, "it wasn't you it was me"

"oh here we go with the classic, it's not you it's me speech, spare me"

"you want the truth?" Teddy said standing up from the bed, trying hard to keep her anger in check "I'll give you the fucking truth" she said looking April in the eye "no it wasn't you, it was all me. I will take the blame, I never meant to hurt you, but what I'm about to say is going too" taking a deep breath she went on.

xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Callie was hovering over Arizona, smiling, her eyes full of love. "I'm so glad you came" Arizona whispered, pulling Callie down into a heated kiss. Until they heard the arguing from the bedroom "maybe I should have let her leave" Arizona sighed

"no, they need to be adults about this and talk it out" Callie said rolling off Arizona

"yeah, you're right, but I still feel bad" they heard Teddy raise her voice and slam something. "shit, I should"

"you should stay right where you are. You running in there isn't going to help anything, in fact it may make it worse" Callie said, knowing it was hard for Arizona, she was always the one who saved everyone. Arizona nodded and laid back down on the pull-out bed.

xxxxxxxxxxxxx

"tell me why you don't love me" April cried

Sighing Teddy said "it's not that I don't love you. I'm just not" she paused taking a deep breath "I'm just not in love with you" she saw the look on April's face change as she said those words, Teddy never dreamed she'd be the one saying those words, sighing again she whispered, "I don't know if I ever was"

"then why did you marry me?"

"the truth?" she asked looking April in the eye, April nodded reaching up to wipe the tears out of her eyes. Teddy reached over for the box of tissues that were on the dresser handing them to her. "with Arizona and Callie getting back together I realized that I'd never find anyone. You liked me for a while so I thought I'd give it a chance, as we got to know each other" she paused sighing "when we first started dating, I thought, yeah I can love her, and I honestly thought I was in love with you, but as time went on and the arguing started. You thinking I was cheating on you." She paused again "I just, April, I never cheated on you, that's the one thing I can say I did right"

"right" April sobbed sarcastically

"I'm serious, that's why I asked you to come. I didn't want to cheat on you"

"maybe you didn't physically but mentally"

"I will admit, mentally, I did, but it's physically that counts right?" Teddy sighed "she promised Arizona she would keep her hands to herself until you and I had this talk"

"you promised Arizona? What about your promise to me?"

"April, I'm sorry" Teddy said reaching for her hand "I really never meant for this to happen"

"then why'd you marry me" April asked again ripping her hand away from Teddy's

"I was settling" Teddy whispered "like I said already, seeing Arizona and Callie, I didn't think I'd ever find someone. I wanted what they had. Arizona has always been the perfect one. Everyone loves her, me, I maybe older, but I feel like a misfit, tossed to the side for something better" Teddy stopped remembering a fight she'd had with Arizona, in the recent past. "I'm sorry I hurt you" she whispered

"you keep saying that, like it's going to magically go away"

"that's because I am, you don't deserve this" Teddy went on "for what it's worth, I've never lied to you either"

April let a small laugh "yeah" Teddy moved closer to her and whispered, "can we try and be friends?" April looked up at her, she couldn't picture her life without Teddy being in it in some way "it might take a bit, but I'd like that"

"good" Teddy smiled reaching up to move a strand of hair out of April's face "take all the time you need, I'm not going anywhere"

April smiled "take all the time you need on getting your stuff out of the house, I know you'll be here with Arizona until she comes home, I can start packing it up for you"

"thanks" Teddy smiled

xxxxxxxxxxx

"shit" Arizona giggled, with everything going on she realized that her sister would be moving back home with her parents

"what?"

"she's gonna have to move home with mom and dad, and they aren't going to be happy"

"what if she moves in with us?" Callie smiled "she could be like our kid"

"our kid?" Arizona laughed "yeah ok"

"well"

"I don't like the sound of that, but her living with us sounds like a good idea, I've loved having her here with me"

"then the decision has been made. She'll have to get a job though"

"yeah, she wanted me to talk to you about that, once we take over"

"we can try it" Callie smiled "we won't have to wait until then Richard has given me complete control over just about everything. He said it'd be good practice" she rolled her eyes

"wow baby, that's great"

"he said he's there if I need time off, to come out here, like this weekend, but otherwise everything is all mine" Callie smiled

"I'm so happy" Arizona leaned over kissing her, she pulled away as Teddy came into the room. She stopped, looked at them, shook her head making her way to the deck, where she plopped down angerly in one of the chairs. "I'm gonna go check on her" Arizona said placing a kiss on Callie's lips, watching Arizona get up. She decided she'd go check on April.

xxxxxxxxxx

"everything alright?" Arizona asked stepping through the door Teddy looked up at her with a small smile "I think it will be"

"good" Arizona smiled "hey Callie wants you to come live with us"

"really? Wow"

"well, we both want you too" Arizona smiled "can't let my sissy poo move back home and live in mommy and daddy's basement for the rest of her life. Plus, we have plenty of room with Carlos gone"

"thanks sissy" Teddy smiled, it was the first thing that had gone right that night

"one more thing" Arizona paused "pending a formal interview, Callie said you have a job"

"good I'll need one" Teddy whispered, looking down at her phone she let a smile find a way to her face

"what's going to happen with her?" Arizona nodded towards the phone

"I'm hoping all the right stuff" Teddy smiled looking up in Arizona's eyes.

"think she'll move to Madison?"

"I'm thinking you're offering her all the right stuff. She has no reason not too"

"right" Arizona nodded looking back into the house "come on sissy let's take a walk" Teddy smiled and nodded, following Arizona down to the beach.

xxxxxxxxxx

"so, um" Callie stopped not knowing what to say, she had never dealt with a heart break other than her own.

"I'll be ok" April said looking at her

"I hope so" Callie said quietly

"the one thing I can't quite grasp, is how or why?" April sighed "I just can't"

"you'll never understand that, the heart wants what it wants" Callie said thinking about the time away from Arizona.

"I should have known something was going on. I mean the way we've been fighting, the way they were at the party" April went on

"they had just met at the party" Callie said thinking back, she saw something at both the parties, she remembered Arizona making a comment about it, but she kept that to herself.

"I know but I just saw it coming" April sniffled "how could I have been so dumb to think I'd get her, and keep her"

"you had her" Callie said softly

"but I can't keep her, her heart belongs to someone else" April started to sob. Callie was quiet she was at a loss for what to do. She thought back on everything Arizona had told her, the way Teddy and Addy were reminded her of when she and Arizona got together. Shaking her head "how long are you going to be gone?"

"I'm not sure, I have some stuff to take care of before I go" April dried her tears "I think my mom is going to try and talk me into staying, which doesn't sound like a bad idea"

"well just remember Arizona and I are always here for you" Callie reached for April's hand

"so is Teddy moving back home?"

"with Barbara and Daniel?" Callie asked, she saw April nod "no, she's going to be living with us" Callie looked at April's face, her eyes all red and puffy she sighed "this sucks, April I'm sorry, you know I love you, but she's my sister, and"

"I know, thank you" April met her eyes with a small smile

"are we still staying until Monday?"

April sighed "you can, I'm going to try and get a flight out in the morning, I can't, she looked around the room, even though it was Arizona's room, she just couldn't be there.

"will you talk to Arizona before you change your flight?" Callie said hoping Arizona would get her to change her mind.

"you don't want to fly alone do you?" April laughed Callie shook her head whispering "no, not really"

xxxxxxxxx

Arizona had talked April into staying until Monday as planned, promising it wouldn't be awkward, and she did everything she could to make it that way. They made the most of it, mostly Arizona was just thankful she was able to spend this time with Callie, even if it was only for a few days. When Monday came around, Arizona got ready to head to the studio, with Teddy in tow. Addy had met them at the car, with April here Teddy hadn't been able to see her all weekend. Arizona watched as they hugged, rolling her eyes "ok, break it up" she said moving passed them "you can do that later" they smiled turning to follow Arizona, turning her head she saw they were holding hands, she let a small smile appear on her face. She loved April, and as much as she hoped they would make it, seeing Teddy with Addy, she knew that was right.

"hey" Miley said seeing Arizona

"hey, what's up?"

"How are things?"

"they're" Arizona looked back at Teddy and Addy, she couldn't help but smile "good, things are good"

"how's April?"

"she and Callie are getting on a plane as we speak" Arizona sighed "I think she'll be ok, she's heading home for a while"

"where's she from again?"

"Georgia" Arizona breathed out

"ah"

"I think it'll help that Teddy is out here with me, so she doesn't have to see her around town"

"probably" Miley smiled "so how's"

"my wife" Arizona winked "she's amazing as always" Arizona smiled "I was surprised she came"

"I had a feeling she would, she loves you and any chance she gets to see you, she'll take it" Miley smiled

"same here" Arizona smiled. She heard Miley's phone go off "sorry gotta get going Lunch?"

"I'd love too, I'm sure they will, well" Arizona said nodding to the not yet official couple heading her way.

Miley smiled "12:30?"

"sounds amazing" Arizona smiled "see you then" she watched Miley head the opposite direction Arizona sighed "alright guys let's go" nodding towards the door.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

"alright girls, that's lunch, be back by 2" Arizona said not looking up from the pages she was writing on.

"hey" Miley said coming in

"hey" Arizona smiled

"you ready"

"just give me" Arizona said writing something down, tossing the stack on the top of the piano "yup let's go"

"I thought we'd just go across the street, something quick"

"quick is good" Arizona smiled "Callie didn't give me much time to eat anything this morning"

"I don't want to know" Miley smiled. They made their way out the door, Arizona could see Addy and Teddy up ahead, holding hands. "how do you honestly feel about that?" Miley asked

"honestly" Arizona sighed "it's Teddy's life, she's allowed to be happy, I have to admit, I kind of pushed her and April together, knowing full well it'd probably fail, but for a while I thought they had a good bond going" Arizona looked down, "I feel like it's my fault April's heart broke, I knew how much" she stopped sighing "I just want Teddy to be happy, and seeing her with Addy, makes me remember how I felt when Callie and I first got together all those years ago"

"Callie's pretty amazing" Miley smiled

Arizona laughed "yeah she is" they made it to the little café across the street, Arizona held the door open for Miley.

"you know" Miley said sitting down "everyone keeps giving me shit about having a crush on Callie, I really don't, actually I've been seeing someone, no one knows about"

"oh, do tell" Arizona asked reaching for a menu

"I don't want to say too much, we aren't even that serious"

"you aren't?"

"gay?" Miley laughed "well"

"really?" Arizona asked intrigued

"I'm bi" Miley smiled

"there's nothing wrong with bi" Arizona smiled "to be honest, I've dated a few guys in my past, but I knew back then that what I wanted was to be with a girl, and meeting Callie" Arizona smiled "so you like my wife?"

"she's amazing, you both are, and honestly if you weren't married I'd" Miley looked away. Arizona could see the blush form on her face

"it's not Callie you're interested in is it" Arizona smiled as Miley met her eyes and smiled, Arizona let out a laugh. "god no one has had a thing for me in a long time, if ever"

"I'm intrigued by Callie, because she's your wife, and" Miley let out a laugh, "and that can't be true, look at you"

"I do every day, and I don't see what anyone sees in me" thinking about Callie and how many times she's told her over the years how beautiful she was.

Miley laughed "I hope it's not going to be awkward now"

"nah" Arizona said waving it off "besides I'm married, happily, and you're seeing someone. It's ok to have a crush on someone" Miley smiled, relieved she finally got that off her chest. "oh I got some good news" Miley looked at her intrigued "you know that coffee shop we are buying?"

"the one Callie works at?"

"yeah, she told me that Richard, he's the owner right now, gave her total control of everything, he's going to let her do it all while he's still there to help. He'll have to show me how to do the bills and orders and shit, because I'm going to be doing all that, but yeah, it's actually happening"

"that's awesome I'm so happy for you guys, I'll have to come and check it out"

"we could do a show together, I'm going to start working on plans to upgrade the stage" Arizona smiled as their talk went on.

xxxxxxx

"Zo, do you mind if" Teddy started to ask but Arizona cut her off "Addy comes home?" Teddy smiled "come on" she nodded to the car, as the three of them hopped in. Arizona was looking at her phone, catching Teddy out of the corner of her eye, she couldn't help but smile. The two of them really did remind her of her and Callie. Yeah, she felt bad for April, but this is where Teddy should be. Addy had kept to her word, nothing happened between them until Teddy had talked to April. Which surprised Arizona, given Teddy's past, she wasn't sure that was going to happened, but she had to give credit where credit was due, and that was to her sister, for not officially cheating on her wife. She wanted to voice her opinion about a few things but decided it was best if she just stayed quiet. It wasn't her life after all, she was sure that her parents would get to it when they found out anyway. The car pulled up outside the house, Arizona followed the other two in. "I'm going to go shower"

"why, you didn't do anything today" Teddy said

"I just feel like taking a shower, can I do that without an interrogation?"

"maybe" Teddy laughed, Arizona shook her head and headed down the hallway to her room.

xxxxxxxxxxxx

Arizona walked into the kitchen after taking a while standing under the cascading water, soothing her aching muscles, no she didn't do much that day, but the night before. She smiled thinking about it, she couldn't wait to finally be home, and able to hold Callie every night.

"hey" Teddy said turning around from the fridge handing Addy something.

"you cook?" Arizona asked surprised

"I do, or well I did until I came out here" Addy smiled "my mom worked a lot, so someone had to feed the kids"

"how many are there again?" Arizona asked she knew she'd had that talk with Addy before but couldn't remember

"there's 3 of us, which I am the oldest" Addy smiled "then my brother Archer, who is 3 years younger, and my sister Sandy, who is 5 years younger"

"wow" Arizona said "we grow up pretty much set, if mom wasn't home we had a nanny, who did the cooking"

"Arizona do you remember that time Mrs. Carson from down the street watched us?" Arizona nodded smiling "we totally made her night"

"I brought out the karaoke machine, and turned it on full blast, Arizona and I sang at the top of our lungs"

"Mrs. Carson was the neighborhood grandma, she didn't have any kids of her own and her husband died in the late eighties, so every chance we had we'd go hang out with her" Arizona explained

"that night was funny, she got up and sang with us, dancing. Have you ever seen a 70-year-old dance?" Teddy laughed at the memory

"I have, my grandma does it every time I sing"

"that's awesome" Teddy giggled placing a kiss on Addy's cheek, as Addy finished preparing their dinner.

"I hope you don't mind, I'm cooking" Addy looked up at Arizona

"nope not at all" Arizona smiled "you can cook for me anytime"

"neither one of us are much of a cook" Teddy winked

"well it's ready, if you want to grab some plates" Addy nodded to the stove.

xxxxxxxxxxxx

"so what are your plans" Arizona asked now that she had both of them alone, and the talk with April was out of the way

"well I have to work on the annulment" Teddy said looking at Addy "but we were thinking, maybe if it's ok with you and Callie, that Addy could move in with us"

"pending on if I don't get sent home" Addy laughed, that was the one thing Arizona loved about Addy, she had her head on straight, reminding her a lot of Callie.

"you're not going home" Arizona smiled "and I guess that would be up to Callie"

"I'll talk to her" Teddy smiled as she got up to put the dishes in the sink "Zo, I'll do them later"

"wow" Arizona whispered, "I don't know what you're doing to her but keep it up, I like it" she winked. Addy smiled leaning in "oh I plan too" they both looked at Teddy smiling.
