Chapter 3: Victoria and Robin
"You had a date? With who?" She asked, her blue eyes wide.
"Dick Grayson!" I blushed. Her mouth fell open and her blonde hair hit her face as she whirled around to look at Dick. He was wearing a maroon vest with a white polo and khaki shorts with his penny loafers. He slung his messenger bag over his head and looked over at Kara and me. We waved at him and she dragged me into the hallway.
"Oh. My. God." She grinned as we went to my locker.
"I know! Just don't tell anyone yet. We're not an official couple." I opened my locker and put my history books inside as I grabbed my physics ones.
"Not yet you aren't!" She waved to me as I walked into Physics class. I sighed and sat down, listening to the professor's lecture. After class, Dick surprised me by walking me to my next class.
"I know this is sudden, Victoria, but would you care to join me for lunch? I know a great café not too far from here."
"Sure, Dick!" I smiled and waved to him before going into Biology. I sank into my chair with a happy grin. Barbara looked at me.
"I've got another date with Dick!" I explained. Her eyes flashed with jealousy again.
"Where's he taking you?" She asked, as kindly as she could.
"To a café he knows of. Are you still cool with this?" I said, noting her death grip on her pencil.
"Yeah, it's fine. I'm fine." She gripped her pencil between both her hands. I raised my eyebrows and shrugged. Kara came in just before the final bell rang.
"Just in time as always, K!" I smiled. She stuck her tongue out at me. Barbara was seething and we both could tell. The professor began his lecture about photosynthesis being important to all plant life even pesky weeds. I took thorough notes along with the tips he had for a better garden. After class, I nearly got a heart attack from some guy in a black ski mask waving a gun in the middle of the crowded hall. Several people were screaming and yelling. A shot rang through the air and I ducked as a bullet flew over my head. It didn't hit anyone but did some serious damage to a nearby locker. I looked around for Dick and Kara, but I didn't see them anywhere. I suddenly caught sight of Kara, yet I still couldn't find Dick. I hoped he was in a safer hall. Teachers were shepherding us outside. I was near the back of the hall. Another shot rang out and I was pulled into Biology class again. Someone was holding me around my waist. I looked into the face of my savior and nearly scowled. It was none other than my mother's arch enemy Batman.
"Are you all right, miss?" He asked.
"Yes. Thank you, Batman. I owe you one." I forced myself to smile. 'Unfortunately,' I mentally added.
"Excuse me." He used an item in his belt and went up into the rafters. I narrowed my eyes as I realized I owed Batman my life. That meant telling Mom and she wouldn't be happy. Not one bit. I ran towards the nearest exit and got an unpleasant surprise from the crazy gunman.
"Hello beautiful, why don't we go on an adventure?" He laughed and I immediately recognized him.
"You're the Joker!" I said, feigning fright. He laughed again and grabbed my arm. I stomped on his foot and ran outside. I saw a crowd of people in the distance. I was almost there when a loudly painted car blocked my way. The Joker got out and Harley Quinn. She giggled and grabbed my arms. The Joker put his hand over my mouth and something was sprayed right under my nose several times until I breathed it in fully. I struggled, but seemed to be getting weaker every second.
"Who knew spray chloroform would be so handy on a person?" The Joker laughed. The blurry crowd was coming towards us along with Batman and Robin, but in a puff of smoke I passed out and the Joker drove away with me in the trunk. I came to in a jumble of patterns that I think was meant to be a bedroom. The Joker laughed. I narrowed my eyes and tried to get up, only to find myself chained to my bed. I fell back down.
"Try and break free, beautiful! It's pointless. I'm the only one who has a key and you'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands before you're free!" He smiled cruelly. I glared at him. I heard glass shatter in the next room.
"Now what?" The Joker asked, peeved. I waited until he had left and then I made my move. I used a small ivy frond to slink into the darkness, but I knew where it was.
"Come on, little one, don't fail me now." I whispered. It reached the floor and the Joker returned.
"Faulty glass is always breaking!" He muttered to Harley Quinn.
"I know, pudding! Hey, it's the red haired fireball!" She giggled and I took the chance to distract the Joker while my ivy frond was taking the key.
"Why did you kidnap me?" I asked. He arched an eyebrow.
"Simple. You remind me of someone I know. Someone who said they wouldn't care about anyone at all. Only plants." He responded with a shrug.
"I remind YOU of Poison Ivy?" I sounded doubtful.
"Yes." He didn't notice that my ivy had grabbed the key. I quickly whipped it out of their sight and my ivy slithered away. I concealed the key in my fist.
Harley Quinn ran forward and kicked him out of the way. I looked puzzled, but I was secretly grateful for her interference as I was able to free myself. Something red, yellow, and green flew towards me and scooped me up. I had my arms around his neck as he landed in the rafters. He gently set me down. I smiled shyly, not quite being able to see who he was through his black mask. He was different than what my mom told me. He was almost as handsome as Dick Grayson. Almost.
"Thanks, Robin." I breathed, self conscious.
"You're welcome, miss."
