From Danger Into Danger
by Ian Osmond
In these simple lands
I have heard the tales
Of the days of old;
So distant they seem
So far from my world,
The stories of the Great Foe.
Tales of valour, of darkness, of greatness
Bigger than life could be ever more;
And now a trace comes down from those days
The last remnant of the Dark Lord.
Far off legends now knock at my door
Horrors once only whispered have now come forth;
The name of Mordor, a name only in tales
Now reaches my ears and my hope begins to fail.
What ghosts are these that he sends?
They know my name, they watch the roads
They are searching, hunting
And will never stop
Their presence fills me with fear
Yet no more than the uncertainty of what they are
Or where they come from.
The pieces of the darkest stories
Now collide with my tangible world of comfort and peace.
The wizard's words are so heavy
Their great weight has a hold on me now
And I now know that I must leave.
I must leave
Leave behind all I know and love;
I must lead this dark pursuit away from my gentle land;
A dark fate
A dark fate awaits me now
I am leaving and will most likely never again come back.
Into shadowy places I must tread
Safety I shall no longer know
I must travel alone into darkness
Avoiding the eye of the Great Foe;
No there and back journey shall this be
I fly from danger into danger
From peril into greater peril
I am deathly afraid
But such is my fate
And so this is how it must be.
