It was a cold and dark night outside. The moon was shining its red glow, owls were hooting, and there were plenty of sounds of predators hunting, prey screaming, and flesh being eaten. Anne was driving Bessie while Sasha looked over the map, and everyone else was inside the fwagon. Sprig was helping out Felicia with some baking.

"Can you get me three eggs, Sprig?"

"Coming right up, Mrs. Sundew." Sprig happily hopped over.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome." He smiled. "Need help with cutting anything?"

"Sure, can you peel and cut me up some carrots? I need them small."

He tried it. "Is this small enough?" the frog boy asked.

"Just a little smaller," Felicia replied, rubbing the top of his head, making the frog boy smile with pride. "Now, that's great. Cut them just like that."

Over by the inventory, Marcy was checking things over with Ivy.

"So we have three jars of beetles?"

"Yep." Ivy grinned. "We have couple bags of chocolate bugs. Bandages, we have six boxes. We still have plenty of water."

The youngest of the travelers was with Maddie as they both looked out the window to see the dark, deep forest. They'd already spotted giant strange critters that they never came across in the woods of Wartwood.

"Oh boy," Polly spoke up, "sure is spooky out there."

"I know..." Maddie smiled. "I love it. Oh, hey! Is that Mrs. Croaker?" Maddie pointed to a figure that seemed to be Mrs. Croaker. But as the fog cleared, it was just an old rotten log that was shaped like the old widow. "Ah, false alarm."

Then they passed an adorable baby snail, and the two frogs watched, adoring, as suddenly a strange reptilian-like creature jumped out of the bushes and devoured it whole. The kids screamed as they held each other tightly out of fear. Polly shut the blinds, then checked out the map with Maddie to see their current location.

"Man," the young tadpole murmured as she looked at the map, "look at how far we are from home. It's a big scary world out there. Kinda makes a little tadpole like me feel small and scared."

"Yeah. The world is much bigger place then I thought it was," Maddie admitted. "We're not even halfway to Newtopia yet. I can't believe I going to say this, but I miss my sisters."

"Well, hey! Maybe some story time will help us take our mind off it!" Polly hopped over to the book shelf and selected, 'Fergus Frog.'

"Hey, my dad used to read that to me when I was a pollywog. It'd be good to listen to it again."

"Well, come on, I know someone who can read it to us." She and Maddie then went over to Hop Pop, who was sleeping. "HOP POP!"

"ARGGHH!" The old frog was startled awake with panic. "What's wrong?! We driving off a cliff?! I knew I shouldn't have let Anne drive!"

"No, Hop Pop. Everything's fine. I was just thinking it's a perfect time for story time! Maddie also wants to join us."

Polly pointed to Maddie who was beside her, giving a cold blank expression. "Hi."

Hop Pop yawned and rubbed his eyes. "Sorry kids, but no. I was up all night driving and I really need to sleep." Polly got a bit frustrated and decided to play the old Grubhog-eyes card.

"Please, Hop Pop?"

"Alright fine," the orange frog sighed, and he gave in. "I guess one story couldn't hurt. Hop on up, you two campers." Polly hugged Hop Pop as she, along with Maddie who was on the opposite side of his lap, waited. Here we go. "Fergus Frog finds a... " Hop Pop immediately fell asleep.

"Hop Pop!" Polly grabbed his tongue and slapped him in the face with it in an attempt to wake him up. "Hop Pop!" After a couple more tries, Polly and Maddie then went to try find someone else who could read it. They found Felicia, who was making some treats.

"Excuse me, Mrs. Sundew, but would you, um, please read this storybook for us?" Maddie asked, blushing as she held up the book in her hands.

"Oh, sorry, you two. I'm making some treats with some additions with the scorpleo Anne killed," she replied. "And don't try to give me the Grubhog look treatment. Ivy did it so many times I'm basically immune."

"Guilty," Ivy called from where she was going over inventory with Marcy.

Meanwhile, back with Anne and Sasha . . .

"Man, this place is freaky," Sasha said. "Really hope we get out of this place soon."

"Tell me about it. This place is giving me the chills," Anne said. "Glad you're here."

"Hey, don't mention it." Sasha looked with her binoculars at the road ahead. "Well, anyways, you might wanna take a ri—" Polly then came out of the roof door, scaring the two. Sasha instinctively headed over to Anne for cover. "God, you nearly gave me a heart attack!" She glared, then blushed as she realized she was being held by Anne.

"Hey sisters!" Polly yelled. "Guess what time it is? Story time!" Sasha let go of Anne with embarrassment and looked over the map.

"Not now, brat. This stretch of road is dangerous and we have to be careful."

"But it's a pop-up book!" Polly opens the book and a figure comes out hitting Sasha in the face, causing her to lose the map and binoculars in the wind.

"Great! Look at what you did, you baby!"

"DON'T YELL AT THE BABY!" Anne glared at Sash.

"Watch the road?! Watch the freaking road?!"

"Grrh! Which way, Sasha? Left or right?"

"Uh... uh, right. No, left. Just give me the reins. You know I'm a better driver then you!"

"What?! No, you're not!" The two began to right over the reins, not noticing the road as they hit a pothole. Anne lost control and tried to stop Bessie as everyone held on for dear life. Felicia and Sprig were trying to keep the ingredients in one place, well, the frog boy tried, but all he did was make a mess, Felicia was surprisingly still very agile, catching dropped items with ease.

Marcy, the poor girl, had trouble standing up on a normal surface. Hop Pop was tossed out of bed and woken up. Luckily, Anne managed to stop Bessie just in time when she approached a bush with thorns. Everyone let out a sigh of relief as Hop Pop and Felicia walked upstairs and opened the door.

"What in tarnation?" Felicia exclaimed. "What's going on? Are you kids okay?"

"This is what I get for letting you kids drive!" Hop Pop complained.

"Hey! Don't blame this on us, old man!" Sasha fired back. "This was Polly's fault."

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. You three, inventory duty. I'm driving from now on."

"Hop Pop..." Anne said softly. "You barely slept."

"She's right," Sasha scoffed, "you'll probably rolls us over a cliff or something!"

"I don't need to listen to your excuses. Get back inside NOW!"

"I can watch him," Felicia offered, trying to offer Sasha a warm smile.

"...FINE!" Sasha folded her arms. "But I'm not taking the blame if you put this thing in a ditch." The kids went inside the fwagon while Hop Pop whipped Bessie's reigns and started her up.

"Hopediah..." Felicia said softly, "You have to talk to her."

"I don't have to do anything. I'm always trying to protect. Ungrateful kid."

"Stubborn old goat!" Felicia sighed. "I know you, and especially her. You both still care for each other."

Hop Pop grumbled.

Back inside, the kids were doing inventory. Maddie had started to feel a little bit guilty, while Polly was still just upset about story time.

"So much for story time. Well, there's always bath time. Hugs and scrubs at the same time. Whoooo!"

"Polly, I think we should calm down." However, the pollywog didn't listen to her.

"All right, how many mushroom bars do we got left?" Marcy asked.

"Uh," Ivy was counting, "28, 29..." Polly jumped in the pile, with her bucket filled with soap and water.

"I'm filthy!"

"What the—Polly?" Marcy asked.

"Hey, I was counting those!" Ivy glared.

"Who wants to give me a bath?"

"No one, twerp! Now get lost!" Polly just ignored Sasha's words and started to jump in until Maddie caught her.

"Polly, don't you think you're going a little bit crazy about this?"

"No, I'm not! Now let go of me!"

"Polly, will just calm down and listen?"

"NEVER!" Polly struggled out of Maddie's grasp as she tripped and let Polly fall into her bucket, which caused a total mess inside the mobile home.

"Ah, cremany! All our mushroom bars are mush," Sprig complained as the top door opened and Felicia and Hop Pop peeked their heads inside.

"What's all the ruckus?"

"It's Polly. She made a huge mess."

"It was Maddie. She dropped me in the bucket!"

"Hey, don't blame this on me!"

"These two BRATS are acting like babies!" Sasha snapped.

"I'm not a baby!"

"Yes, you are!" Sprig replied.

"Are not!"

"Are too!"

"ARE NOT!"

"ARE TOO!"

"C'mon, kids. I'm too tired for this," Hop Pop said exhaustedly.

"If you're tired, Hop Pop, I know what'll wake you up." Polly then started to rub herself on the carpet, causing static electricity. "Zap-tag! Just got to build up a charge, and..."

"Polly, no. It's wet in here," Hop Pop tried to warn her, but it was too late.

"You're it!" Polly touches Hop Pop, causing him to be electrocuted, and inadvertently he touches everyone else, causing them to be electrocuted as well. In the end the fwagon explodes.

"Polly!" everyone scolded.

"But you guys loved zap-tag back home."

"News flash, we're not at home!" Ivy yelled.

Polly sighed. "Don't have to tell me twice."

Hop Pop sighs then looked out the window to see a sign that led to a snail stop. "Look, there's a snail stop ahead. We'll pull in and clean this mess up. Also, I'm gonna need about 30 cups of coffee."

"Sasha? Why don't you keep an eye on him so he doesn't fall asleep," Felicia smiled. Sasha just shrugged and walked over to Hop Pop. "I'm driving!" Sasha snapped the reins before the orange frog could sit down. Hop Pop was about to shoot back a rebuttal, but he stopped himself as he took a seat next to her. He was about to open his mouth but closed it, opened it again and close it as he looked around.

"What?!" Sasha hissed.

"Nothing. Nothing," Hop Pop said defensively, rubbing the back of his neck. "Listen, so, uh... how are you doing?"

"Look," Sasha sighed, "every time we try to talk like this, we just end up fighting."

"I know we do." Hop Pop laughed a little. "So..." He rubbed his knee. "Think we'll find any clues about getting you back home in Newtopia?"

"I... don't know. I'm just not going to get my hopes up, so I won't get disappointed if things don't work out."

"Makes sense."

"What about you? Do you think this trip will be a waste of time?"

"I... don't know either. Honestly..." He looked away. Every time he saw her face, it reminded him of all the things he did, and it filled him shame. "Sasha. If this doesn't work, we get no leads. Then, I have no idea what to do next."

She was silent for a moment.

"Sasha, about the box..."

"I don't want to hear your excuses."

"Fine!" Hop Pop rolled his eyes. Yes, he did think this was just a waste of his time. Did Felicia truly believe this would have worked? They remained silent and continued along the way to the snail stop to feed Bessie, stock up on supplies, and clean the fwagon.

"Interesting." Marcy smiled as she drew a picture of the station. There was juice made especially for snails and other creatures for transport to drink, and an area where snails could sleep.

"Okay, Polly, you and Maddie go and get some paper towels," Hop Pop told them, giving them some coppers. "Twenty copper on pump 6."

"You think you two can do this without screwing up?" Sasha asked, annoyed.

"We can do it!" Polly glared and walked over to the diner.

"As for the rest of you, start cleaning out the fwagon." Hop Pop takes the hose to Bessie to feed.

As Polly made her way to the diner with Maddie, they saw what looked liked another purple pollywog near the door. "Whoa! A new friend! Twinsies!" Then she got a better look at it and realized it was a rock. "And I'm talking to a rock."

"Yep," Maddie agreed. They both went into the diner to pay for the feeder and get paper towels, which was simple enough.

"All right fam, we got your paper towels right here," Polly called, but the others weren't listening.

"Man, what's with those two today?" Maddie and Polly were confused by what they heard from Sprig. "Is it just me, or are they being extra annoying?"

"I know. Zap-tag? More like zap-pest," Anne joked.

"That was awful," Sasha groaned.

"I thought it was funny," Ivy commented.

"Maybe Polly's just not cut out for this," Felicia said. "She's still a little pollywog, after all. She can't protect herself, and Maddie... well, she isn't really a people person."

"It's times like these when I wonder whether I should've left her with Mrs. Croaker back home in Wartwood," Hop Pop said with a sigh. After hearing that, Maddie and Polly started to tear up a bit as they both headed back to the diner.

"Okay," Anne said, "you don't mean that. You're just a little frustrated."

"Yeah," Sprig smiled, "I'm sure she's got her reasons."

"I agree with you," Sasha stated, shoking the group. "They're both babies that need us to protect them. They're slowing us down."

"Look I agree there being a pain." Anne said, "But were still making good time."

"You're right. You're right. I'm just so hoppin' tired!" Hop Pop groan.

"Here, Hopediah." Felicia poured some coffee into a cup for Hop Pop to drink. "Have some coffee."

Hop Pop dips his tongue in the cup is instantly energized. "Whoa, nelly! Whoo-hoo-hoo. Now, let's get this show on the road."

Meanwhile, Maddie and Polly were both filled with anger as they headed to the diner.

"Should've left me back in Wartwood, huh?"

"That outsider doesn't have a clue about this place. You know, I once saved her ungrateful butt when she was cursed."

"Hmm." Polly then looked at the purple rock. "Well, they don't want us on the trip, maybe we won't go on the trip anymore." While nobody was looking, Polly put the rock in her bucket. She left as Anne and Sprig went to check on them.

"Hey, Polly, we just wanted to say we understand..."

"Shh," Sprig interrupted her, "she's sleeping. Never bother Polly while she's napping."

"Oh, well. We'll just talk to her when she wakes up, then."

"When they see that's not me, they're gonna freak out and then they're gonna come crawling back. Serves them right," Polly grinned evilly.

"Polly, I think we're going too far with this... let's just go over and talk..." Before Maddie could finish, the fwagon just left with everyone else.

"Did they just leave..."

"Without us?" Maddie and Polly started to panic and scream for a bit before calming down. "Okay, we got that out of our system. I guess we live here now."

"Yep. Starting over from scratch. We don't know no one, and no one knows us."

"How's it hanging, Polly! Maddie!"

"Sup, Soggy Joe?"

The duo went back in the diner, and as the music was playing, Joe bought the two kids a meal.

"Ah!" Polly down her drink, sitting down next to Maddie, Joe, and a few of his friends. "Now where was I? Oh, yeah! I just wanted to have some fun, like we did back home, but they were all like, 'Cut it out, Polly!' So frustrating, right?"

"Hmm." Joe scratched his beard. "Sounds to me like you were homesick, and trying to compensate by recreating a homelike environment through familiar activities."

"Without taking into consideration the inability of your family to provide comfort at this juncture."

"Also sounds like you have a problem revealing vulnerability, even to those closest to you."

"And there the feeling uncomfortable with being around people you are close with, without having someone familiar with you to comfort you."

"Oh, yeah. Totally," Joe agreed.

"What the hey-hey? I thought you truckers would be all grumpy and agree with me," Polly pouted. "What's with all this maturity and biz?"

"Well, when you spend a lot of time on the road alone, there's not much to do but better yourself."

"Yep. Having the time, having along enough moment to really reflect on yourself and things you do. Things you wish you can do."

"I just got my PhD."

"Up top, sister!" They high-fived her with their tongues. Polly groaned in frustration, while Maddie smiled at the fact that they were like her. The Toads' looks and occupation didn't fall under a stereotype. Just then a frog came into the restaurant in a panic.

"Hey! Did any of y'all take the big, purple stone that was by the door here?" he asked.

"Uh," Polly was confused, "maybe. Why?"

"Cause it weren't no stone. It was the egg of a Roc, a giant, flesh-eating, ravenous bird. Was just about to sell the bugger to the circus down the way. Someone must've pinched it. Too bad for them, though, 'cause that bird's gonna devour the first frog it sees once it hatches."

The two frog children looked at each other and gulped. "Uh, so," Maddie asked, "how long until this egg hatches?"

"About five minutes or so."

"Oh, no," Polly gasped. "Who cares if they left us behind? I gotta do something or the family's toast! Ah, ah, ah!" They both looked around for anything that could help, when they noticed Joe's truck outside. "Soggy Joe, how fast can that thing go?"

"From now on"—Joe took off his safari hat and replace with a hat that said 'Speedy Joe—"call me Speedy Joe."

"Do we have to?"

"It'll help, yeah."

Meanwhile, back at the mobile home, Anne came in with a story book.

"Psst! Polly. I know Sprig said not to wake you, but I thought you might like a little story time. Polly?" Anne tapped the egg which started to bounce and crack a bit. "What?" She then removed the sleeping mask to find it wasn't Polly at all. "Guys! Code purple!"

Everyone came in to see Anne was holding purple rock and that Polly wasn't anywhere to be seen. Marcy and Felicia then got to bed to look at Maddie. "Maddie isn't here either."

"They must be at the truck stop. We gotta go back!" The egg begins to break and an eye is seen.

"Well, that's mildly concerning."

Polly, Maddie were with Soggy Joe.

"Anything?"

"Not yet. Wait up. I think I see them. Looks like they're totally fine. And not only that, they came back for us. Hey, fam! We're right here! And it looks like the egg hasn't hatched yet." Everyone on the fwagon was screaming as the egg finally hatched. Its wings and claws sprouted out of the fwagon."Me and my big mouth."

Bessie hid in her shell as the Roc looked down at her.

"Oh, no, you don't!"

"Hands off our snail!"

"Unless you want to be dinner, drop her now!" Sasha glared.

The family began to fight off the bird. Sprig falls off, but he comes back with the bucket still with soap and water. "Eat suds!" He threw the bucket at the bird, but it only gets wilder than ever.

"Joe, what is this? Wool?" Polly asked, holding his scarf.

"Bee wool, actually. Thanks for noticing." Polly shook the cloth to make static electricity. "Hey! Those were expensive."

"Shut up and go faster!"

"Yes, ma'am!" Soggy Joe accelerates in a hurry.

"Now hit the brakes!"

"Wha—?!" Maddie and Joe screamed.

"Just do it!" Soggy Joe braked, making Polly fly into the air, straight to the bird. "Zap-tag, anyone?" Polly touches the bird, causing a massive electrocution, cooking it to a crisp. "Oh!" Polly clucked. "That's right! Nobody terrorizes my family, but me!" She put her bow on, turned around, and then she saw them. "You're all okay! Oh, and you're welcome. I'd also like to thank Maddie, Speedy Joe—"

"Polly Petunia Plantar!" Hop Pop scolded.

"Maddie Harina Flour!" Felicia folded her arms.

"Uh-oh, full name. Could you give us a minute, Speedy Joe?"

"You got it." Joe leaves them alone backing up his car, "Boop, boop, boop, boop..."

"So... sorry about the killer bird."

"Forget the killer bird! Don't ever run away from us again, young ladies! You hear me? We were worried sick! What if something happened to you? What if you'd gotten hurt, or lost, or worse?"

"I really am just trouble, aren't I?" Polly sniffled. "You were right. Maybe you should've left me back in Wartwood."

Hop Pop sighed as he picked her up. "Heard all that, did ya? Polly, I'd never leave you behind. Not ever."

"Maddie, I was just worried about you," Felicia said, looking at the frog girl.

"I'm sorry as well..." Maddie sniffled, "I thought I was grown up now. But I... missed my dad, my little sisters."

"Aww... sweetie." Felicia smiled and pulled Maddie into a hug, slowly patting her back as she started to tear up a bit.

"Trust me, Maddie." Anne rubbed the frog's kid head. "We know that feeling..." She turned to Sasha and Marcy. "If you want to talk about it, then we'd be happy to."

"Thanks, guys." They all came in for a large group hug with each other, as Anne turned to Sasha, calling out to her in singing voice. "Oh... Sasha..."

"I don't do group hugs..." Sasha stated before Ivy pulled her into the hug. Then Soggy Joe interrupts them again for a moment.

"Sorry to interrupt, but do you guys need a tow to the next stop? Betcha they'll have everything ya need to fix up your wagon."

"Fwagon."

"Is that a word?"

They soon got the fwagon and Bessie on the back of Speedy Joe's truck and made their way to the next truck stop, Bessie taking the time to rest.

"Well, now that we got a breather, who's ready for story time?" Hop Pop asked.

"Whoo!" Polly smiled.

"Yeah!" Sprig said.

"Sounds good to me!" Maddie replied.

"I'm 13, but okay." Anne said.

"Heck Yeah!" Ivy replied.

"Sure..." Marcy smiled.

"Pass!" Sasha said, leaving.

"All right, now where were we?" Hop Pop smiles as he starts reading aloud. "Rain poured from the sky as Fergus Frog faced his wife's killer in the deserted alleyway. 'Taking me out won't bring her back,' growled the assassin. 'Ain't that a shame,' said Fergus as he drew his knife!" Hop Pop turned the page and a knife popped out.

"Ho, ho! Get 'em, Fergus!" Polly cheered.

"Man, this book is dark," Anne said.

Maddie smiled. "Just the way I remember."

It was nearly morning when the young witch girl woke up, and looking outside told her they were at the next truck stop.

She found Marcy, who was feeding Bessie, as she made her way over to her. "Morning."

"Hmmm..." Marcy was taken out of her trace and turned to Maddie. "Ohh... Good morning to you as well. Sleep well?"

"I guess so." Maddie looked away. "I'm sorry about last night."

"It's alright. I know what it's like to miss something."

"That kinda what I want to talk about." Maddie rubbed the back of her head. "So... What is your home like? You must miss your parents too?"

Marcy laughed a little... "Sure... home?" This caught the young witch frog attention. "Sure, I miss home... but this place, despite all the scary stuff, is a dream."

"Just... What do you do when you miss your family? Your parents?"

"My parents..." Marcy looked away.

"If don't want to talk about it, then just forget I asked."

"No... no... no..." Marcy waved her arms, "It's okay... They're good parents, I guess. But they're always busy with work... They're busy, I understand that. I'm normally either alone or at Anne's or Sasha's place. I wish they would make more time for me. Or that I had Anne's parents."

She sighed. "I know that's wrong to say. They tried to make time, but it's rare. I don't really notice much, as I spend most of my time playing my games or out with Anne and Sasha, but... I don't really have much friends. After the Planters, you're my first friend outside of that. My world is boring next to this place. But I do think of them. Wondering what they're going through. But I try hard not to. I don't like to think of things that make me sad."

Polly and Maddie team up when doing this episode. Maddie would make sense to be a little home sick. She's around Sprig's age, so 10, and doesn't have her family with her.

October 15 The Owl House Season 3 episode 1, or what I will call it, The Owl House Final Part 1.
