Chapter 10

Evie lets out a groan as she lands on the ground.
Pushing herself up she looks around and is surprised to see sand, and a giant dome.
"Where are we?" asks Emily as she sits up.
"I don't think we're in Kansas anymore," replies Kevin.
"We're in Scott's dimension," guesses Mia.
"Yay, evil robots, dystopian outcome, possibly time difference. Real life Terminator movie," mutters Evie rubbing her back.
"What the hell do we do now?" asks Mike.
"More importantly how do we get home?" says Antonio.
"And fast," nods Evie as they pull themselves to their feet, "no one powers down, we can take our helmets off but we do not power down. I'm not risking not being able to power up again."
"Understood," nods Kevin.
"So now what?" asks Mike.
"We find Scott's team and see if they don't know how to get us back to our own dimension," answers Evie.
"Well I don't think we need to look far" says Antonio and they turn and see six rangers stood on the dune not far off.
"Evidently not," nods Evie as they walk over.
"Oh yes, they've got a gold one," cheers Antonio.

They get closer and the yellow steps forwards, "I take it you're the samurai rangers?" she asks.
"We are, you're Scott's team?" asks Evie.
"We are, we picked up the Vortex, weren't expecting another group of rangers," she admits.
"Professor Cog opened it up, we blocked it enough to stop Jayden and Scott getting sucked through," explains Evie, "unfortunately that meant we did."
"Dr K is already working on a way to get you home. I take it you're not risking powering down?" she asks.
"Thought it best not too, so is the air here actually toxic or can we take our helmets off?" asks Evie.
The other rangers power down, "no its not toxic, but the air inside is better. I'm Summer," she smiles holding her hand out.
Evie takes her helmet off and takes her hand, "Evie," she greets.
"This is Flynn, Ziggy, Dillon, Gem and Gemma" introduces Summer pointing to each of them.
"This is Kevin, Mia, Antonio, Emily and Mike," replies Evie gesturing to them.
"Welcome to our dimension," smiles Ziggy.
"Come inside we can talk there," says Summer and the group heads back to the dome.
"How were things when you left them?" asks Summer looking at Evie.
"Turns out swords are not the best against metal, unless you're the metal samurai," replies Evie. "And even mine wasn't overly effective."
"Yeah, Dr K was really specific when she designed our suits and weapons," nods Summer.
"Yeah Nighloks aren't usually metal," agrees Evie, "but hey its been working for 18 generations why change what works," she shrugs.
"Maybe because it apparently didn't work?" suggests Dillon.
"Well like I said we usually have moogers and Nighloks to contend with, not robots," replies Evie.
"Swords, who the hell still uses swords? Bet you ride horses too," snorts Dillion.
"We do on occasion, but the bike I have parked in the garage at home is more my style usually," replies Evie, "and like I say, we've been doing this for 18 generations, and old schools been working thanks."
"Ignore Dillion he doesn't mean it," assures Summer with a soft smile.
"Your boyfriend?" guesses Evie.
"Fiancé actually," smiles Summer showing her the ring.
"It's lovely, who knew broody had such good taste in women and in rings," smiles Evie.
"What about you?" asks Summer.
"Jayden, our red," replies Evie.
"We'll get you back to him," assures Summer.

They walk inside the dome and the samurai can't help but look around.
"God, I can't imagine having to live like this," admits Mike.
"It's not so bad, but once you've seen it all, you've really seen it all," replies Ziggy.
"But we're rebuilding, with Venjix gone, we can start looking at rebuilding the whole world," smiles Summer.
"Nature's already starting to come back, plants, flowers and the like," adds Dillon.
"Then there's hope," replies Emily with a smile.
"Aye, there's hope," agrees Flynn.
"I love your accent," says Mia looking at him.
"Oh don't get him started or he'll be pulling out every Scottish phrase he can think of" warns Dillon.
"Wow it's like Antonio and his golden puns," says Evie. "And now there's two of them," she adds looking at Antonio and Gem who were in an excited conversation.
"You're gold excitable too?" asks Dillon.
"Yep," nods Evie.
"Well this should be interesting then," says Dillon.

They follow them through the dome until they get to the RPM HQ and walk inside.
"You're back, good, Dr K was getting annoyed," smiles a dark haired woman as she walks forwards.
"This is my sister Tenaya," introduces Dillon.
"Hi," she smiles.
"Tenaya, this is Evie, Emily, Mia, Antonio, Mike and Kevin," explains Summer pointing them all out.
"Oh good you're here," says Dr K as she walks out.
"And this would be Dr K," adds Summer.
Evie has to work to keep her face straight, cause Dr K looked like she'd stepped out of a high school science lab, and not to teach the class.
"We have work to do, we need to get them back to their dimension asap, I've already started the calculations, don't suppose any of you are especially technologically orientated?" asks Dr K.
"I am lovely lady," smiles Antonio bounding forwards.
"Good, then you can help me, Gem, Gemma, I need you as well," replies Dr K and the four of them disappear.
"Well that was friendly," says Mike.
"Don't take it personally, the Doc is still working on her social skills," assures Flynn.
"Yea, she refused to refer to us as anything other than our colours when we joined the team," nods Ziggy, "but she's much better now" he smiles.
Evie glances questioningly at Summer and Summer nods, "yep, them as well."
"Figured," nods Evie.
"So what do we do now?" asks Mike.
"Is there anything we can do?" says Mia.
"Not until we can reverse engineer the vortex, so if any more of you have got any skills that would be helpful to that, then got tell Dr K. If not, there really isn't much else to do but wait," admits Ziggy.
"Waiting, my least favourite thing to do," sighs Evie.
"Maybe we can give you a tour, you know, show you around?" offers Flynn.
"Yeah, I'd like that," nods Mia.
"Me too," beams Emily.
"We're in" smiles Mike taking Emily's hand.
"I'll see if I can't help Dr K," replies Kevin as he walks off after them.
"You coming E?" asks Mike looking at Evie.
"Sure, I doubt there are ion storms around or transporter malfunctions to facilitate dimension jumping," answers Evie.
Everyone looks at her in confusion.
"And I just let my nerd side out," realises Evie.
"Little bit," nods Mike.

Ziggy, Summer, Flynn and Dillon are soon leading the samurai's out into the city.
Mike immediately strikes up a conversation with Ziggy, Emily doing the same with Summer. And Evie could tell Mia was adoring Flynn's accent and had started talking to Tenaya as well, leaving Evie walking next to Dillon.
"Don't usually find a lot of blacks when it comes to meeting other teams," says Evie.
"Other teams?" asks Dillon.
"Oh yeah, we've got loads in our dimension, not just Samurai rangers either," replies Evie. "To my knowledge there are a total of 8 other teams that have black rangers, we're usually interchangeable with green apparently."
"Ziggy was the last one to join us," says Dillon.
"You didn't all start the team at once?" asks Evie.
"No, Scott was first, then Flynn, then Summer, me, then Ziggy and Gem and Gemma turned up later on," answers Dylan, "Dr K was overly specific about the kind of people she wanted, except in the case of Ziggy he was an accident."
"Antonio was our accident," says Evie.
"Why?" asks Dillon.
"Our powers are hereditary, passed down parent to child. Antonio is the first gold ranger, he managed to make his own," replies Evie.
"So you literally meant 18 generations as in your however many great grandparents started this?"
"Mhm," nods Evie, "same for all of us, like I said old school has worked."
"Not against Grinders."
"Well that's clearly usually your problem," answers Evie. "It's no problem against moogers or Nighloks."
"Which are?"
"Evil demons from the Netherworld who break through into ours causing misery and despair which raises the Sanzu river and will eventually allow Master Xandred to break through into our world. And the river will flood the Earth, the Nighloks will reign and humanity will be wiped out."
"And it's taken you 18 generations and you still haven't beaten them?" asks Dillon.
"We beat them back; they lick their wounds for a few decades and then a new generation is called. But not this time."
"Why not this time?"
Evie smiles, "we've got a secret weapon."
"And what is that secret weapon?"
"Wouldn't be secret if I told you now would it."
"Fair enough."
"So Summer said you're rebuilding, you and her planning on staying here after the wedding?"
"We went out saw what was out there once we'd defeated Venjix, Summer, Tenaya and me. And there is a lot of work left to do first," replies Dillon, "not exactly going to be an overly big wedding."
"If you want ideas Mia is a wedding enthusiast, she'll have plenty of ideas for you," chuckles Evie.
They look ahead and see Mia now has her arm linked with Summer.
"And she's already gotten to Summer, when she comes for you, run, run far and fast," advises Evie.
Dillon looks concerned and nods.

They continue the tour and get some food before heading back to the garage as night begins to fall, finding the others all working, or rather Kevin offering suggestions and Dr K clearly annoyed with him.
"Oh hey guys," smiles Antonio.
"Any luck?" asks Mike.
"We're well on our way," assures Gemma, "we'll have you home in no time."
"I hope so," says Evie rubbing her side, "something's wrong and I'm not sure if its different dimensions or something actually up with Jayden."
"What are you getting?" asks Kevin.
"Just something's off, not right somehow, but like I said I'm not sure if it's actually something with Jayden. Or if it's the very extreme distance," admits Evie, "just give me a minute, is there somewhere quiet I can use?"
"Sure you can use my room," replies Flynn, "just down the corridor, first door on the left."
"Thanks," nods Evie as she walks down to the room and steps inside.
She settles on the floor and shuts her eyes trying to shut everything else as she just focuses on Jayden.

"What exactly is she going to do?" asks Dillon in confusion.
"Evie and Jayden have a samurai bond, ancient symbol power. They're connected in no way we can really explain. They usually feel if something is wrong with other, they can find each other, that sort of thing," explains Mia.
"So they're what, telepathic?" asks Ziggy.
"No, they're not telepathic or anything. Its more of a general sense of feelings and the like, and it takes work and concentration to really use it unless something is seriously wrong," replies Mike.
"Well maybe she'll turn something up, I'd like to know how Scott's doing," admits Flynn.
"They'll be fine, Jayden's the best, and Scott seemed like he was good too," assures Emily.
"I hope so," nods Flynn.
They settle in for the night Dillon soon fleeing as Mia tried to ask him wedding questions.

Evie walks back in a little while later and is met with expectant gazes.
"I don't know, whatever it was, he's better now. Nothing feels seriously wrong so I'm pretty sure they're managing."
"We'll see them soon" smiles Emily walking over and hugging Evie.
"I know we will", nods Evie.

As everyone drifts off to do their own thing Evie feels another headache developing and walks outside and looks up at the dome, she finds she really misses the stars.
"Not much to look at," comes a voice.
Evie turns and sees Dillon a little way off.
"I can't imagine not seeing the stars anymore," admits Evie, "when I was 9 I found a spot on the roof of the house and I made it mine. Told Jayden it was girls only and threatened to kick him off the roof 300 style if he came up there without my permission."
"Your red ranger, right? Also, your boyfriend I'm going to guess?"
"Yep, over 4 years."
"But you've known him for a lot longer."
"Since I was 8, we grew up together."
"Your parents?" asks Dillon.
"Dead," answers Evie. "What about you?"
"I don't remember much, Venjix grabbed Tenaya and me. Gave us robotic parts, wiped our memories, I didn't even remember I had a sister until it started coming back to me in parts. Tenaya spent the better part of our battles with Venjix working for him with no idea she was even human. To say it was complicated is an understatement," replies Dillon.
"Okay, maybe you have a right to be bit broody," admits Evie.
Dillon snorts, "broody huh?"
"Very Jon Snowesque, only you're taller, slightly more threatening and I'd say more rugged rather than pretty."
Dillon barks out a laugh at that, "that's good to know, whoever Jon Snow is."
"TV character," answers Evie.
"Yeah, we mostly do re-runs here," nods Dillon.
"Scott was pretty horrified when he thought we didn't have video games or a TV," admits Evie.
"Yeah, we rely a lot on tech here. Ironically enough given it was what made the very thing that almost wiped us out," admits Dillon.
"Little bit," nods Evie, "but you've obviously adapted, persevered and survived. Next stop comes the rebuilding and then the thriving, you've had your crucible, you can only go up from here."
"Hope you're right" nods Dillon, "I think I'd like to see the night sky again."
"You will, we're human, we always find a way," assures Evie, "even when life kicks us in the teeth we get back up and we keep on going. What pretty much every movie ever likes to say at least."
"Yeah, that we do," smiles Dillon, "even if you do go about, it old school."
Evie just chuckles at that, "we'll agree to disagree" she replies. "I just hope I get to see the night sky again soon."
"Dr K's good, she'll get you home," assures Dillon. "And you sure it's the night sky and not your boyfriend you want to see?"
"Yeah, probably that too" admits Evie, "it's been a long time since we've been separated by more than a bathroom at most, never mind an entire dimension."
"Do you really have a connection with him? How does that even work?" asks Dillon.
"It's complicated, I don't know how to explain it any way that someone who doesn't have it will understand. We're not telepathic, I can't see through his eyes or anything like that. But I can track him, feel strong emotions or if he's in pain. We can share strength and the like. Like I said, its not really something I could describe to you," admits Evie.
"Must've taken a lot to do that," says Dillon.
"Not as much as people think, 2 very stupid 12 year olds who didn't just want to make friendship bracelets," says Evie with a smile.
"Sounds extreme" nods Dillon.
"It was, but who sees anything as extreme when they're 12," chuckles Evie.
"Who gets to decide what's extreme," nods Dillon.
They lapse into silence, but it was comfortable rather than awkward, a strange understanding settling between them. Maybe it was because they were both blacks, or simply because they shared a tragic history and recognised a kindred and slightly damaged soul.

They eventually head back inside and Evie looks around.
Emily was sound asleep in Mike's lap, and he was engaged in a video game discussion with Ziggy. Kevin and Flynn were obviously blue bonding over something, Mia and Summer were talking about weddings, and the other four were working on getting them home. Antonio clearly enjoying having two clearly enthusiastic metallic coloured rangers around. Dillon soon joining Tenaya as the two struck up a conversation.
Deciding to see if Summer needs saving, she walks over to her and Mia. They'd get home, one way or the other, they'd get home. Somehow, they'd get home, they got Scott to their dimension which means they could get them back too.

"Yes, victory," laughs Professor Cog as Jayden and Scott both double over from each other's hits.
Only for them to let out laughs as they straighten back up.
Scott brushes himself off dramatically, resting Jayden's sword on his shoulder, "not a scratch," he smirks.
"You could've turned that laser down a notch," notes Jayden, "but the shield you gave me, worked great." He pulls it off and tosses the smoking metal aside.
"Yeah so did your symbol power, good job," agrees Scott as pulls out the piece of paper and drops its burnt remains down.
"You know Mentors plan worked perfectly, here," he throws the sword back to Jayden who catches it, unable to help himself as he does a quick examination of it.
"Thanks," he nods.
Scott turns then, "nice to see you again Professor Cog. Oh and thanks for teaching that fake out trick to me."
"What?" gasps Professor Cog.
"No!" groans Sergeant Tread.
Jayden walks over to Scott, "yeah good try with your mind control bolts. My Mentor noticed we were acting weird, and he figured out a way to reverse your poison. Once our heads were clear, we knew we had to team up and turn the tables on you. And you made the mistake of underestimating us, as the movies my black so likes to watch say, we're human we always find a way."
"But uh thanks for letting us ride right onto your doorstep," smirks Scott.
"That's the last time you make a fool out of me!" yells Professor Cog.
"Attack!" orders Sergeant Tread.

The moogers and grinders charge forwards, trying to surround Scott and Jayden, but working in tandem they take them out.
Neither noticing as the grinders become bikes and the moogers jump on the back, until they and Tread are blasting past them.
"Okay now I know why you're not supposed to play in traffic," groans Scott as they try and dodge, only for him to be knocked into the air.
"Symbol power, car," casts Jayden, a red convertible appearing and Scott lands in the drivers seat.
"Alright now this is what I call horsepower," he whistles.
Jayden jumps into the back, clearly now was the time to no be quite so old school.
Scott floors it after the moogers on bikes, while Jayden takes them out with his sword. Save the one grinder who clearly had not got the memo and was just piggy backing one of moogers.
He takes out the first two, but the others settle in behind them, opening up with blasters.
Jayden spins, blocking the hits and he can almost hear Evie making a Star Wars pun in his head, before he launches himself into a flip taking out the remaining two.
As he lands he looks around, he'd sworn there'd been one more.
He turns and see the piggy back grinder had caught up and he takes them out easily with a swipe.
Only for the sight of Sergeant Tread barrelling towards him, and he just knew he wasn't going to be able to counter in time.
Until Scott pulled in front of him, "hop in," he urges pulling the other red in behind him as they speed off again. Trying to dodge the blasts coming at them.
Scott pulls out his blaster, "here, destroy that thing would ya," he says.
"With pleasure," nods Jayden.
"I'll straighten us out," assures Scott as they turn, racing back towards Tread.
Jayden fires, and they both watch in satisfaction as his wheels are blown off and he rolls across the floor.
They step out of the car, "I'll finish him," assures Scott only for Cog's voice to cut across.

"Rangers its your turn," as a series of explosive bolts are blasted at them.
They roll out of the way, managing to dodge them and Jayden pulls out a disk.
"Scott, from Mentor, one time use only," he explains tossing it over. Mentors work with Antonio and the megazords meaning he'd gotten pretty good at finding loop holes for tech and symbol power.
"Thanks, you know for an old guy Mentor's got some cool moves," admits Scott as he throws the disk into the air before catching it on his nitro sword.
"Shark attack mode."
"Super mode."
Both transforming to their power ups.
"Now this is pretty sweet," admits Scott, he could feel the energy added to his own. It was he'd admit impressive.
"Now lets get him," urges Jayden as they race forwards, dodging Cog's attacks, and launching their own. Sending him rolling across the floor with a satisfying metallic thud and sparks exploding.

Jayden and Scott smirked as they looked at Tread and the defeated Cog. Only for a sound to echo above them.
"Jayden do you hear that?" asks Scott recognising the sound.
A vortex opens above them and the six samurai rangers drop through.
"Good timing guys," smiles Jayden.
"Honey, I'm home," smirks Evie.
"Did you miss us?" asks Mike.
"Like you wouldn't believe," answers Jayden.
"Took us a while to reverse that vortex," admits Kevin.
"Your team says hi by the way," smiles Emily as she looks at Scott.
"Thanks," smiles Scott.
"Time to finish what we started," says Jayden as they eight of them turn towards the Nighlok and Professor Cog, and combined the eight of them manage to take them down with ease.
Jayden and Scott both lose their power ups as the others walk over.
"Remind me to thank Mentor." says Scott.
"Will do." nods Jayden, "now it's time to fight the real battle" says Jayden as they turn to the mooger hoard.
"That's a lot of moogers." says Emily.
"Time to call in the cavalry," agrees Jayden.
"Symbol power, horses," they call. Each one appearing in front of them.
The six of them mount up before galloping forwards.
"This would be so awesome with a movie score right now," realises Evie, cause damn if this wasn't one of the coolest thing they'd ever done, and the nerd in her was not at all sorry for that fact.
Antonio jumps in next to Scott and they race towards the moogers in the red convertible.
The eight of them cut through the moogers, Evie switching to her whip as she uses her extra momentum to throw the moogers into each other.
"Something to be said for the original horse power," she smirks as she takes out more of them.
Kevin unleashing his bow on them.
Some try to rope Mia and drag her off her horse but she just urges her on.
"This is not my first rodeo," she smirks dragging them across the ground, her dad did so love old Westerns.
Mike switches to his spear, knocking the moogers out of the way.
Jayden dodges the blasts of the smaller spit fangs.
"Go and get General Gut, leave this to us," urges Kevin, as he Emily, Mia and Mike vault from their horses and charge forwards on foot.
Jayden rides through the chaos.
Evie defeats her own batch of moogers in time to see Jayden on the other side of the hoard.
"With the way our lucks been going, I'll just bet you're gonna need my help," she decides as she urges her own horse forwards.
"I'm going to help Jayden!" she shouts, the others moving to clear an easier path for her as she does so.
Scott and Antonio racing along in the car ahead of her, taking out the moogers as they go. Only for the terrain to stop them as Scott skids the car as they reach a blockade, the wooden spikes coming uncomfortably close to Antonio's face. And boy is he glad of a helmet.
Evie just pushes her horse faster, leaning forwards as it leaps over both the car and the wooden blockade.
"Tell me about old school now Scott," she laughs as she continues towards the palisade behind which Jayden had already disappeared.

Evie arrives in time to see Jayden moving to come down on General Gut but can see his staff is going to deflect it.
"Not this time," she smirks as she sends her whip out, wrapping it around the staff and pulling it back hard, leaving General Gut completely open to Jayden's attack as he hits him with the full force of his fire smasher and he explodes into nothing.
Jayden looks over at Evie, "thanks."
"Anytime," she replies.
"Now time to deal with this mooger issue," says Jayden as he activates shark mode and using its advanced attacks takes out all the remaining moogers with ease.
Evie smiles and dismounts, the other four joining them, "nicely done," she nods.
"It's not over yet," reminds Jayden as General Gut grows to his mega mode.

They form the battle-wing megazord and with one strike take out General Gut.
"Somethings not right here," says Evie.
"No, that was too easy" agrees Jayden and a moment later their proven right when he reappears even stronger than before. And his first hit nearly knocks them over, sending the tiger, swordfish and beetle zords flying off the megazord.
And with another hit they're on the floor.
"Shit," swears Evie as they're tossed about in the cockpit, clinging onto their consoles to keep from landing badly as the continue to be blasted.
"Damn it he's too strong," says Kevin.
"No, there's always a way," replies Jayden as he looks down.
"The shark sword," realises Kevin,
"Right, I bet the shark can take a bite out of that snake," nods Jayden as they pull themselves back up.
And with the help of the shark sword the Nighlok is destroyed with ease.
"Samurai rangers, victory is ours," smiles Jayden.

They stand on the station ready to send Scott home.
"Well guess it's time I take the fight against evil back to my world," smiles Scott.
"Thank you for helping us save the city," smiles Jayden.
"No, thank you. If Professor Cog had succeeded, my world would've been in big trouble," smiles Scott. "Even if you are tragically old school."
"Yeah well my horse sure as hell didn't break the way your car did," smiles Evie.
Scott laughs, "well it's time to go, thank you, for everything."
"You too, and if you ever come back this way again, it'd be good to see you again," adds Antonio.
"Say hi to your team for us," smiles Emily.
"I will, see you," waves Scott as he steps onto the train and with a final wave he disappears back to his own dimension.
The seven rangers look at each other, "so what did we miss here?" asks Kevin looking at Jayden.
"Quite a bit, what about you, how was his dimension?" asks Jayden turning to Evie.
"Not as Terminator as I was picturing, but I am really glad to be home," admits Evie.
"His team were nice though," beams Emily.
"Sounds like we've all got a lot to talk about" smiles Jayden.
"Yeah we do, like what the hell happened last night because either dimensions make our bond screwy or something else did," replies Evie.
"Something else, I'll explain it all," he assures kissing the top of her head.
"I can make dinner again?" offers Mia.
"No!" they all shout.
"I mean, we might as well stop for burgers, after all their dimension didn't have the best food options," admits Mike.
"No, definitely not," agrees Emily.
"Burgers it is then" smiles Jayden, happy to have his team back with him, and Evie next to him right where she was supposed to be.
