A/N: So here we go, next chapter, lemme know what you think :)
Chapter 12
Evie was stood on the edge of the dojo watching as Emily and Jayden sparred.
"Good Em, keep it fluid," nods Evie.
"Should I be insulted you're trying to get me knocked onto my ass?" asks Jayden as he counters Emily's attack.
"I figured maybe it was time someone else did it for a change," smirks Evie.
Jayden just shakes his head as he and Emily continue to spar, and he had to admit she'd come a long way since she'd first arrived. She wasn't up to Evie's skill level and Jayden knew both he and Kevin could still beat her with ease. But she could definitely give Antonio, Mia and Mike a run for their money now. And Jayden could tell how much she'd improved.
Ji was sat nearby reading a book and keeping an eye.
Mike was getting breakfast in the kitchen having been the last to emerge from bed same as usual. Antonio was unsurprisingly out fishing, and Kevin and Mia had gone for groceries.
The sound of soft guitar music reached them and the four of them turned curiously.
Mike walking into the main room as he followed the sound.
"Hey, where's that music coming from?" he asks.
The five of them follow the sound, opening the front door and see a young guy sat on the side playing the guitar.
They share a curious look before walking over to him.
"Uh, can we help you?" asks Jayden.
"Wait a second I know you," says Evie, "you're Mia's brother," she realises having seen the pictures in the girls room.
"Name's Terry," he smiles standing up.
Jayden and Mike share a surprised look while Emily and Evie both smile.
"I'm Evie" says Evie, "this is Emily, Jayden and Mike."
"Nice to meet you all," replies Terry as they lead him inside.
"So you're Mia's brother," smiles Mike.
"Yep, all my life," nods Terry.
"Mike," chides Evie knowing the mischievous look on Mike's face.
"Well, welcome to the Shiba House," says Mike, he'd just have to get some embarrassing stories from Terry later.
"Wow, this is cool," replies Terry as he looks around.
"See that's a nice reaction," says Jayden, thinking about how Scoot had immediately dismissed it as old school.
"Where is my sis anyway?" asks Terry.
"Oh she and Kevin went grocery shopping," replies Emily.
"You don't let her cook do you?" asks Terry.
"No, we learnt that lesson," assures Mike.
Terry picks up one of the training swords, "sis is good with a blade, as long as its not a kitchen knife."
"So what brings you to town Terry?" asks Jayden.
"I'm volunteering at the children's hospital over summer break. My parents think it will help get me into med school down the road."
"Is there a big demand for guitar playing doctors?" asks Mike.
Emily nudges him.
"Oh this, no I'm also trying to put together a concert gig. I was hoping Mia would sing," explains Terry.
"Mia sings?" asks Emily in surprise.
"Oh she's awesome, when we were kids, we were going to be the world's greatest band. But you know the whole power rangers thing," admits Terry.
"Evie sings," offers Emily.
"You do?" asks Mike looking at Evie.
"I can sing, doesn't mean I do it anywhere other than the shower, my room or the house," replies Evie quickly giving Emily a pointed look.
The sound of the gap sensor going off interrupts them.
"Uh we'd love to stay, but duty calls," says Emily as she and Jayden hand their training swords to Ji.
"Oh don't sweat it go save the world," assures Terry. "I'll hang out with Mentor he seems cool."
The four of them run out of the room leaving Terry with Ji.
They arrive at the school which was thankfully empty for summer break, and see Kevin and Antonio had already engaged.
The other four join in and are soon taking out moogers, left, right and centre.
As they take out the last remaining ones Mia runs up, "sorry I'm late, but you guys look like you had it handled."
"Thanks for the assist Antonio, glad you were nearby," says Jayden.
"Oh its nice to feel needed," smiles Antonio faking a tear.
Jayden shoves him and Evie laughs, "you have to forgive him when he's being sappy, should've heard what he was spouting after the fake weddings."
"Oh Mia speaking of being needed, we're needed back at the Shiba House," smiles Emily.
"Why, what's going on?" asks Kevin.
"Mia's brother, dude you have to meet him. He's like this zen guitar player," smiles Mike.
"My brother, with his guitar?" clarifies Mia.
"Yeah, he was good too from the little we heard," nods Evie.
"And he wants you to sing in his band," adds Emily.
"Oh yeah another new thing, both Mia and Evie can apparently sing," smiles Mike.
Kevin looks between the two and Evie just shrugs while Mia looks uncomfortable.
Antonio suddenly surges forwards, "wait your brother has a rock band?" he asks excitedly. "Sweet I have got to meet him."
Mia looks at him eyes wide as he invades her personal space.
"I'm going to go grab my guitar and meet you there in a few," says Antonio before running off.
"Grab it from where?" asks Mike.
"He has an extra storage locker," replies Jayden.
"Of course he does," says Kevin shaking his head.
"No you don't you little bastard," says Evie as she hits the button on the controller.
"Oh yes I do, the supreme commander of sneak is getting her ass handed to her," smirks Mike.
"Not this time," answers Evie as she narrows her eyes and speeds her combinations to increase her attacks.
The door opens and Terry walks in.
"Hey," smiles Emily.
"No, no, no," cries Mike.
"Yes, yes, yes," laughs Evie as she obliterates Mike's character and jumps up pumping her fist in the air, "ha supreme commander reigns," she cheers.
"How?" asks Mike dropping back against the couch.
"Haha" laughs Evie doing a little victory dance until both become aware of Terry.
"Oh hey Terry," greets Mike standing up.
"Hi, you arrived just in time to see Mike's crushing defeat," smiles Evie as she wraps her arms around Mike's shoulders from behind.
"You're cheating, somehow you've figured out how to cheat the game," says Mike looking back at her.
"No, I'm just that good," smiles Evie, "tell him Jayden," she laughs.
"Just tell her or she won't let go," chuckles Jayden.
"Dude, get your girlfriend off of me," says Mike trying to extract himself from Evie's grip.
"Sore loser," smirks Evie as she lets go of Mike and Jayden and Kevin walk over and join them.
Mia walks out then and smiles, "Terry," she beams moving forwards handing the tray of food to Emily who eyes it with disgust and sets it down.
"Sis," smiles Terry as he hugs her.
"It's been so long" says Mia before pulling back. "Oh, you haven't met Kevin yet," she adds pointing to him.
"Your blue right?" asks Terry.
"Yeah," nods Kevin shaking his hand.
"Heard a lot about you man, glad you've got my sisters back," smiles Terry.
"That's a great guitar, can I see it?" asks Kevin.
"Kevin likes guitars, well this has been an enlightening day, Mia and Evie can sing, Kevin likes guitars. Jayden, Em, you got any secret talents to share?" asks Mike.
They just laugh as Terry hands his guitar to Kevin.
"So what are you doing here?" asks Mia.
"I'm getting the band back together. We've got a concert on Friday and I was hoping you'd sing with us" smiles Terry.
"Oh, no" starts Mia.
"Come on Mia" interrupts Emily. "We want to see you rock out on stage" she adds enthusiastically and everyone else nods in agreement.
"Why isn't Evie bring pressured if she can sing?" asks Mia.
"Because no one save Jayden, Ji and Emily have ever heard me sing, you've clearly done this before" replies Evie.
"Plus as you know, if she doesn't want to do something, its would be like moving the pyramids" adds Jayden wrapping his arm around Evie.
Mia looks at them before grabbing Terry's jacket, "can I talk to you outside for a minute?" she asks as she steers her brother out into the garden.
"That doesn't look promising," notes Mike.
"Is this what normal family drama looks like?" asks Evie.
"Kind of," nods Emily.
"Huh," says Evie.
The five of them sit down, Jayden and Kevin resuming the chess game they'd been playing earlier, Emily grabbing a book while Evie and Mike start a thumb war, it's a few minutes later when Terry walks back in.
"I'll get my stuff and I'll go," he snaps grabbing his bag and guitar.
"Terry," tries Mia.
"No, you don't want to help me. I'll find someone else to sing," retorts Terry as he walks out of the house bumping into Antonio as he goes.
Mia sighs and walks out of the room heading to her own.
Evie looks out the window and sees Antonio with Terry, so at the very least he isn't running around on his own, just in case.
"Someone should talk to her" says Kevin.
"Only child," reminds Evie.
"Same," nods Mike.
"No experience with younger siblings here," says Jayden carefully.
"I'm an only child too," reminds Kevin.
"I'll go," says Emily as she goes after Mia.
The other four sharing looks before Evie and Mike start up another game, and Jayden and Kevin continue their chess match.
A couple of hours later there's a knock on the door and Emily answers it.
"Hey Terry, Mia isn't here right now, but you're welcome to come in and wait?" offers Emily.
"No thanks, got a lot of these to hand out, but I hope you guys will come," says Terry as he hands her a few flyers.
Emily takes them her eyes widening as she reads it, "featuring Antonio," she says in surprise.
Walking back into the main room she holds up the flyers, "so turns out Terry has got Antonio to sing for them."
"Wait what?" asks Evie looking at her from over the couch, Mike doing the same both their cars crashing as they stop paying attention.
"Yeah," nods Emily showing them the flyers.
"He did seem pretty excited at the idea," notes Kevin as he takes one.
"We're going right?" asks Mike.
"Definitely," nods Evie.
"Yay, it can be date night," smiles Emily as sits down next to Mike.
"Well date night and Kevin" points out Jayden.
"Oh right, sorry Kev," apologises Emily.
"It's okay Em," assures Kevin.
Their peace and planning is interrupted by the sound of the gap sensor.
They call Mia and Antonio as they race out of the house.
They arrive at the location morphing as they do so and see Serrator, Antonio soon joining them.
"I think I'll cut in on your fun," smirks Serrator as he sends a blast at them that throws them all into a pile of barrels, as they scramble to their feet they're instantly attacked by moogers.
Combined they take them out before Serrator himself appears in front of them.
"I'd head back to the Netherworld if I was you," warns Jayden.
"And yet you're not," retorts Serrator as he sends another blast at them.
Evie draws a blocking symbol but the blast hits before she can finish and their thrown backwards, Evie landing on top of Kevin and Emily crashing into Mike, while Jayden and Antonio slam into the wall.
"With you rangers out of the way, I can finally put my plan into action. It's a nightmare come true," smirks Serrator as he walks forwards.
"In your dreams Serrator," warns Mia as she appears.
"What?" his eyes widen as he sees her clearly having not counted correctly.
"Whatever your plan is, I'm here to stop it," answers Mia.
"You, stop me?" laughs Serrator as the two face off.
"You've got spirit, I'll grant you that," he says before knocking her backwards with a hard swipe from his blade.
"But I hate spirit," he adds as he advances on her.
"Mia here!" shouts Jayden as he throws the black box to her.
"Thanks," she smiles as she slides it onto her sword and morphs into super samurai mode.
"What's this?" asks Serrator.
"Super spin sword!" shouts Mia as she sends her advanced attack at Serrator and he's thrown backwards from the force of it.
"That actually hurt," he mutters.
"Good," retorts Mia.
"Bravo," smiles Evie as she and the others re-group around Mia.
"Great job," agrees Jayden and everyone else nods.
"You think you've won? This party's just getting started" warns Serrator.
"Papyrox," he activates.
"Wow cheerleading moogers," notes Mike as he sees the moogers next to it.
"Time to take that team down," agrees Evie.
"And take it up a notch," adds Kevin.
"Mia activate the megazord, I'll take the bullzord," says Jayden.
"You got it" nods Mia as she does so, the five of them soon appearing in the cockpit.
While Jayden takes control of the bullzord.
"Ready for a wagon ride?" asks Mia.
"So many jokes, all of them dirty," smiles Evie and the others groan as the megazord lands on the back of the bullzord.
Antonio soon joins them in the clawzord and Jayden switches into the bull megazord.
With the three working in concert it takes no time at all for them to take down the remaining moogers and the papyrox.
With everyone ready for the concert Mike was teaching Kevin how to dance, or at least trying too. Mike becoming horrified as he sees Kevin's idea of a dance move.
"E, help me out here," pleads Mike.
"What do you expect me to do? I'm a ballet dancer remember, you want fouettés I can do you 32," shrugs Evie.
"Please I've seen you dance and unlike this one who clearly got his moves from history documentaries, I know you have rhythm," reminds Mike.
Evie smiles, "fine, this one doesn't dance, so if Em doesn't mind you have a dance partner for the evening," she says nodding to Jayden.
"I don't dance, too clumsy," assures Emily knowing full well Evie and Mike were like siblings.
"Yes," cheers Mike as he takes her hand and spins her around.
At that moment Mia walks in and unlike the others she hadn't changed.
"Are you not coming to the concert?" asks Emily in surprise.
"I think I'm just going to turn in," answers Mia.
"Mia, is there a problem with you and your brother?" asks Kevin.
"He's supposed to be volunteering at the hospital not playing some gig," replies Mia.
"Oh, okay. But after that battle, we're kind of going to go and blow off some steam," explains Emily as she takes Mike's hand and walks out of the room.
Evie just sighs and Jayden loops his arm around her waist as they leave as well.
"It's not just your brother Mia, its Antonio too," reminds Kevin gently before he follows the others out.
Mia pulls out the flyer with a sigh, and then her eyes widen in realisation as she sees its for charity. And she'd be so hard on Terry.
Sitting down she rubs her eyes.
"Are you not joining the others?" asks Ji as he sees her.
"I used to love performing with Terry. You know other than meeting my prince Charming hand having a family. Performing was something I always wanted," admits Mia. "But I had to be a samurai first. And I knew that dream would have to at the very least wait. I don't know why I got so angry though."
Ji sits down next to her.
"Perhaps it's the fact Terry has the freedom to do this," notes Ji.
"How do you mean?" asks Mia.
"You said it yourself, you had a duty, a destiny. To be here and be a samurai ranger just as your mother was. Maybe a part of you however small and however subconscious was jealous Terry was shirking what you thought were his own responsibilities, and able to purse the dream you couldn't," answers Ji.
"I never thought of that," admits Mia.
"Exactly it's not conscious. You love your brother and you are an amazing samurai and a very strong ranger. And you are a good and compassionate person. But it is normal to be jealous that you are having to put your life on hold in a way your brother does not," assures Ji.
"Doesn't that make me a bad person though? Because sometimes I get jealous of Jayden and Evie, and Mike and Emily?" asks Mia.
"Because of their relationships?" guesses Ji.
Mia nods.
"It does not make you a bad person, jealousy is a normal reaction when someone has something you yourself want. But you've never been malicious with it, you've never tried to ruin their happiness because it isn't yours. Everyone gets jealous, even members of this team. You're still human Mia," answers Ji. "Do you want to sing with Terry and his band?"
Mia nods again.
"Then do it, there is nothing wrong with enjoying something that makes you happy. Go and sing with your brother, be part of the greatest band in the world. For tonight at least, be normal," smiles Ji.
"Really?" asks Mia.
"Yes, really, and don't ever feel bad about wanting to be normal, or wanting something you don't at present have and others do. Everyone gets jealous," assures Ji.
"Thank you Mentor," smiles Mia.
"Whatever I can do," he replies. "And for the record Mia, your Mike or Jayden is out there for you."
Mia nods and disappears down to her room to change. Thinking back maybe it did come back to missing what had been, and being jealous of what she couldn't have right now. But tonight she could at least have some of it.
As they arrive in the concert hall and find some seats, they're instantly taken by how catchy the song is and how good.
"Wow," smiles Emily.
"I know," agrees Kevin.
"Yeah," nods Jayden.
"Come on E, lets show them how it's done," smiles Mike holding out his hand.
Evie just laughs and takes his hand as they start to dance, moving with an easy rhythm they both possessed.
The others cheering along as well, and being impressed by Mike and Evie's co-ordination with each other.
Though they all erupt into cheers when Mia walks onto the stage singing as well.
"Woo Mia!" cheers Emily.
Evie suddenly feels a wave of dizziness hit her and she sways slightly.
"You okay?" asks Mike steadying her.
"Yeah just head rush, I'll be fine," assures Evie.
Mike nods but keeps an eye on Evie just in case.
They continue to dance and join everyone else in the standing ovation as the song finishes and they head backstage.
"Antonio, you were awesome," smiles Jayden.
Antonio smiles, "thanks guys."
"Way to go Rockstar," cheers Emily as she throws her arms around him.
"It was an incredible experience, but it doesn't beat fishing," smiles Antonio.
"Of course it doesn't, for you at least," laughs Kevin and the others laugh as well.
"You really were amazing Antonio, I'm impressed," smiles Evie pulling him into a hug.
"Well now all I need to do is convince you to sing with me some time," replies Antonio.
"Maybe," chuckles Evie as she pulls back.
"And Mia was too," adds Emily.
"You all were, this concert will definitely do wonders for charity," nods Jayden.
"Thanks for coming," says Antonio.
"We wouldn't have missed it," assures Mike.
"Never," nods Kevin.
"Where is Mia?" asks Emily.
"Talking to Terry," replies Antonio.
"I'm glad it all worked out," smiles Evie.
"We all are," nods Jayden.
"Well the band invited me out for some food, you guys should come too," says Antonio.
"I think that sounds good," smiles Jayden.
"Great," beams Antonio as he grabs his guitar case and they head out.
Evie looks over at Jayden as Mia says goodbye to her brother outside the and she sees the wistful look on Jayden's face.
Wordlessly she laces her hand with his squeezing it reassuringly.
Jayden glances at her and smiles before nodding, wrapping his arm around her keeping their hands laced.
"You know they're not going to let you up about the singing," notes Jayden.
"I'm tougher than that," replies Evie.
"I know, but for the record you really would've been good up there," says Jayden.
"Thank you, but I'm a dancer, not a singer," reminds Evie, "I just happen to be able to sing, you want a performance, fine, hand me my shoes and tutu. But I do not sing like that."
"No one makes a tutu look better," smiles Jayden.
"Spent much time looking at girls in tutu's?" teases Evie.
"Never when you were around," promises Jayden.
Evie looks at him and smiles, "charmer," she says.
"Only with you," replies Jayden leaning down and kissing her.
Terry glances over at Jayden and Evie, "you're not doing that with anyone right?" he asks.
Mia shakes her head, "no, I'm not doing that with anyone."
"Because I know you love the whole fairy tale, and you know you're living with four guys," says Terry.
"As you can see Jayden is most definitely not available, and neither is Mike. And I have no interest in Kevin or in Antonio. You're not getting a samurai brother-in-law," assures Mia.
"Okay, good to know, I'll see you soon sis," smiles Terry hugging her.
"Bye Terry, be safe," she says.
"You too," replies Terry, "and I'll tell mom and dad you're okay."
"Thank you," says Mia.
Terry nods and with a final wave heads off, Mia re-joining the others. "Let's go home" she says.
They head back to the house, "you okay?" asks Emily linking her arm with Mia's.
"Yeah, I'm glad I got to see him," smiles Mia, "and that we sorted everything out," she adds.
"You know once we are done, there is no reason you can't be part of the greatest band in the world," smiles Kevin.
Mia nods, "I know, thanks," she replies.
"So how do we convince you to sing?" asks Antonio looking at Evie.
"As I said to Jayden, you want a performance, I know several ballet solos and I include a few more free style ones as well. I'm a dancer who just happens to be able to sing, so save your breath and drop it, because it's that or try listening at the bathroom door while I shower. And I assure you, I will make that very uncomfortable for anyone who tries it," warns Evie, "as Antonio is well aware," she adds with a smirk.
Antonio shudders while everyone else just laughs.
As they arrive home everyone heads to bed given the late hour and that they knew they had training in the morning.
Mike walks Emily to her door and kisses her with a smile, "night," he says.
"Night," smiles Emily as she and Mia disappear into her room.
"Remember when we did that?" asks Evie.
"Mhm," nods Jayden.
They're soon settled together in bed and Evie smiles, "tonight was fun, and Antonio and Terry's band were good."
"They were weren't they," agrees Jayden.
"Though the fact Antonio still prefers fishing was so predictable, I mean his guitar is a fish for crying out loud," she snorts before yawning.
"Go to sleep, you kept sneaking yawns all through the food," notes Jayden.
"Sorry I don't know why I'm so tired," she admits.
"You been feeling okay?" he asks.
"Just a headache or two" assures Evie.
"You sure?" he asks.
Evie nods, "I'm sure it's nothing," soothes Evie, "night," she smiles kissing his cheek before settling down, ignoring the dull but bearable thrum in her head.
Jayden was asleep in moments but Evie shifts, something felt off, she just wasn't sure what it was. She sure as hell hoped she wasn't coming down with something, that was the last thing they needed. Sighing she tries to quiet her mind and finally manages to lull herself into a fitful sleep.
Mia was sat in bed looking at a picture of her and Terry when they were little.
"Are you sure you're okay?" ask Emily looking at her.
"Have you ever been jealous of someone?" asks Mia suddenly.
Emily looks surprised but nods, "sure I have. I was always jealous of how much easier Serena always seemed to find her training before she got sick. I was jealous of the popular kids at school who made everything seem so effortless. And when I got here, I was jealous of how much better than me all of you were. I was even a little jealous of Evie when I thought it was her Mike was interested in."
"I was jealous of Terry, of his freedom. And sometimes I get jealous of you and Mike, and Jayden and Evie," admits Mia.
Emily slides out of bed and walks over sitting down next to Mia and hugging her, "everyone gets jealous Mia, it's not a bad thing, and you're never mean or spiteful about it. And you're Prince Charming is out there, one hundred percent, and whoever he is will be the luckiest guy in the world."
Mia smiles and hugs the younger girl back, "thank you."
"Anytime, it's what sisters are for," smiles Emily. "Thought for once it's nice for someone to be a little jealous of me."
Mia chuckles, "nothing wrong with that."
Emily walks back over to her own bed, "you're a good person Mia, and I'm sure you'll get your happy ending," she promises.
"Thanks Em," replies Mia as she flicks off the light. She felt better knowing that other people felt like she did sometimes. And with that settled she closed her eyes and was asleep in minutes.
