Chapter 29

Mia, Emily and Evie were sat outside one of the cafes each one enjoying a milkshake.
"Okay so seriously we now only have a week until Jayden's birthday, other than the adult celebration you two are likely to have what shall we do?" asks Mia.
"Well he's not a fan of surprises so I would not advise a surprise party," replies Evie.
"Okay," nods Mia.
"What about a night out? I saw a flyer for a 25 and under night at a club, that way Kevin and Jayden can actually have a drink since its Jayden's 21st. The rest of us can stick to non-alcoholic for various reasons. But it can still feel like an actual 21st?" offers Emily.
"That's a really good idea Em," smiles Evie.
"Yeah, I like it," nods Mia. "Plus, it'll be nice to dress up."
"If my clothes still fit me then," mutters Evie.
"Hey it's only a week," reminds Mia.
"True, at what point does it become distasteful for me to dress like I am actually trying to rile my boyfriend up?" asks Evie.
"You're not there yet," answers Mia.
"I don't know if I have anything that works for a club though."
"We'll figure something out, maybe we can make use of that trip to Victoria Secret for you," teases Evie.
Emily blushes but smiles, she kind of liked the idea of dressing up a little more.
"What about asking Alyssa to come, you know so Kevin doesn't feel so left out?" asks Mia, "Plus it'd be cool to get to know her?"
"We'd need to be a little careful, but we might be able to make it work," nods Evie.
"Though that leaves you with Antonio for company all night."
"Or she meets a hot and mysterious stranger," teases Evie.
"Please, knowing our luck, he'd be a Nighlok in disguise."
"A hot Nighlok, can't picture that, they're all so ugly" shudders Emily.
"Yeah Deker's by far the best looking Nighlok, and that's literally because he's the only one who even looks human half the time," snorts Evie.
"Did you just call Deker good looking?" asks Mia.
"No, I meant out of all the Nighloks we've seen, he is the better looking of them. The others just keep getting uglier."
"They really are, aren't they," nods Emily.
"So ugly, always so many teeth or mouths as well," agrees Mia.
All three shudder.

"So, what do we get Jayden for presents, I mean do we do presents?" asks Emily.
"Maybe, we could get Kevin to get him a bottle of alcohol or something?" suggests Mia.
"Not tequila" says Evie instantly.
"PTSD much?" teases Emily.
"You have no idea," shudders Evie.
"Okay, so not tequila, what about a cake, I could make something?"
"No," say Emily and Evie instantly.
Mia looks at them in confusion.

"We have a tradition, Ji makes a special cake, he does it for both our birthdays," explains Evie quickly, "I was telling Em about it at her birthday".
"Yeah, and we wouldn't want to mess with Ji's tradition."
"Oh of course not," agrees Mia with an understanding smile as she sips her milkshake and glances back at the menu.
Emily and Evie both share a relieved look as they too sip their milkshakes.

"You three done buying up the place yet? Or is Evie going to need a bigger bed to accommodate more shoes?" teases Mike as he, Kevin and Jayden walk up to them.
"Haha," answers Evie, "I only brought some perfume actually, and some more strawberry laces, they taste so good right now."
"Guess we won't be needed as pack mules then?" asks Jayden with a smile.
"Not today, at least," replies Mia with a laugh, "Actually we have an idea for what to do for your birthday."
"My birthday?" asks Jayden.
"Well yeah, you're turning 21, we had to do something for it," answers Emily with a smile.
"So dare we ask what we are doing?" asks Kevin.
"We're going out, to a club, then you can actually have a birthday drink, Mike can show of his dance moves. And barring any Nighloks, we can pretend we're perfectly normal people," answers Evie with a smile.
"Cool, I'm definitely in," nods Mike.
"And it gives us all a chance to dress up," says Mia.
"Well how do I say no to that," chuckles Jayden as they start walking back to the house.

"Evie said we shouldn't make it a surprise," says Emily.
"No, no surprises, never, ever, not like that," shudders Jayden.
"Okay sensing a story there?" asks Kevin.
"Ji took us to a funfair when we were 11, Jayden got a little traumatised by the clown who popped up. And may or may not have punched him in the face," cackles Evie.
"You punched a clown in the face?" asks Mike.
"You have some creepy ass guy appear in front of you, in face paint, laughing and trying to pinch your nose having been raised to worry about moogers and Nighloks. And you not punch him in the face" retorts Jayden.
"I'm surprised it wasn't Evie who punched the clown" admits Kevin.
"No she got him back a different way." smiles Jayden.
"Snuck around behind him and gave him a heart attack."
"My hero" chuckles Jayden wrapping his arm around her.
"Ji never took us back funnily enough," smirks Evie.
"Imagine that," snorts Kevin.
"Not going to pass out and break that bottle too, right?" asks Jayden nodding to the bag.
"No," assures Evie, "All good," she smiles before leaning up so her mouth was next to his ear, "both of us."
Jayden smiles and kisses her temple.

"Oh, and Kevin we have another idea," smiles Mia.
"Which is?" asks Kevin dubiously.
"Ask Alyssa to join us," smiles Emily.
"What really?" asks Kevin his gaze flicking to Jayden questioningly.
"I'm sure we can manage one night," nods Jayden, "though we'll need to examine the room situation."
"Well your bed doesn't get used, so we could put Mike in there for the night, and then Alyssa can stay with Kevin," suggests Evie.
"Could work, if Mike is amenable?" asks Jayden looking at him.
"Sounds good, besides maybe if this one gets some he'll be less of a pain in the ass," smirks Mike throwing his arm around Kevin's shoulder.
Kevin shoves Mike off rolling his eyes but he smiles, "if Alyssa can be here, it would be great to see her."
"Then we will make it happen," smiles Mia.

"So you get Antonio as company for the night?" asks Jayden looking at Mia.
"Or she meets a hot guy," adds Evie.
"Long as he's not a Nighlok," snorts Emily.
The other two laugh and the boys just look at them in confusion.
"You had to be there," smiles Mia.

They arrive back at the house and see Ji tending to the garden.
He looks up at the six of them and narrows his eyes when he sees the looks on Evie and Jayden's faces.
"What do you want?" he asks suspiciously.
"Who says we want anything?" says Evie.
"I know those looks, you want something."
"Okay, so since its Jayden's birthday next week, specifically as you know his 21st, we wanted to go out for the night," explains Evie.

"Is this going out going to involve alcohol?" asks Ji.
"Just for those who are actually allowed to drink," assures Mia quickly.
"Yeah we both know Kevin and Jayden would never supply alcohol to minors" interjects Mike. "Save maybe Evie since she's only a month off, but hey pregnant women don't drink."
Ji mulls it over for a minute before sighing and nodding, "Alright, but you do not let yourselves get stupid, and there will not be a repeat of last or I will be ten times harder on you."
"Promise," assures Jayden.
"Then yes, you may go out, we can push training off until the afternoon," nods Ji.
"Yes," smiles Mia.

Ji goes back to gardening but notes none of them have left, "What else?" he asks with a sigh.
"We were hoping Alyssa could join us," admits Jayden.
"We break off contact for a reason," reminds Ji.
"We know that okay, we do. But it would be literally one night, Mike can sleep in with Antonio. Alyssa stays with Kevin and she's gone the next day. No one needs to know, and it's not like she isn't aware of everything," notes Evie.
"And if the Nighloks happen to show up?" asks Ji.
"I can send her back here without them even realising she was with us. She doesn't normally live in the city and only Deker seems aware of the concept of relationships, and no offence to Kevin but he isn't the ranger he's interested in," replies Evie.
"This is highly irregular."
"Mentor, our entire team and its situation is irregular," reminds Mia.
"She stays one night, and she is gone the next day, and under no circumstances does she come back again for the foreseeable future," stipulates Ji.
"I promise," assures Kevin.

"Then yes you may ask her," nods Ji.
Kevin smiles, "Thank you Mentor."
"Do not make me regret this," says Ji.
"Never," promises Kevin as he turns and almost skips into the house as he goes to call Alyssa.

"If just the thought of seeing her makes him this happy he's going to be so happy the day after Jayden's birthday. Toss between who'll be happier between Kevin and Jayden," snorts Mike.
Mia elbows him with a reproachful look.
"Ow, what, it's true and she's freaking pregnant so it's not like we don't all know how that happened," protests Mike rubbing his chest.
Mia just rolls her eyes and walks inside.
Emily takes Mike's hand and pulls him inside as well.
Ji looks at Jayden and Evie then, "Anything else to spring on me?" he asks.
"Nope," assures Evie.
"Are you going to want this for your birthday?" asks Ji.
"Why would I want to go out to a bar when I cannot drink for my 21st?" points out Evie.
"We'll figure something out," smiles Jayden.
"And after last time I wouldn't have thought either of you very enthused at the thought of alcohol."
Both collectively shudder at the memory.
"Don't overdo it this time," snorts Ji.
"No overdoing," assures Jayden
"Yeah because I'm not carrying you home," agrees Evie.
Jayden just smiles and kisses the top of her head.

Deker was sat in the forest with Dayu when Serrator appeared.
"It is time Deker."
"Time for what?"
"Time for you to ensure the rangers hand over the second half of Urumasa," answers Serrator.
"How?" asks Deker.
"The sword is connected to you, but it is also an entity of its own. I can cause it to seek its other half. And using your connection to allow it to act with more self-awareness than it usually possesses."
"The broken piece?" asks Deker.
"Exactly."
"How is this done?"
"It is simple, I will channel you and Urumasa as one. Activating the other half."
"And this will work?"
"It will."
"Very well."
Serrator smirks and pulls out Urumasa holding it out to Deker, before placing his on Deker's shoulder before summoning the magic he had used to create Urumasa all those years ago. The rangers would have no idea what hit them.

Jayden is sat in his room practicing his symbols when Antonio bounces in, leaping onto his bed, causing his symbol to go awry.
"Is it true?"
"What?"
"That we are going out for your birthday."
"Yes, it is true."
"Yes" cheers Antonio bouncing again.
"You can't drink for another three months."
"Doesn't mean this won't be awesome" answers Antonio, "and I suppose I can share with Mike for one night."
"Thank you for doing that," smiles Jayden.
"Well I don't expect you'll be using this bed on your birthday," teases Antonio.
"No comment," replies Jayden, though Antonio was likely not wrong, yet another reason he did not want to get too drunk.

Kevin appears in the doorway then, "Alyssa says she's in, she'll be here at three" explains Kevin with a smile.
"That's really great Kevin."
"Thank you for doing this."
"She knows and I can't imagine being separated from Evie the way you are from Alyssa."
"Still I know it's against the rules, so thanks. I'll get you your first drink?" offers Kevin.
"No tequila," stipulates Jayden quickly.
"No tequila," assures Kevin with a chuckle.
"So we finally get to know Alyssa a little better huh," notes Antonio.
"Yeah Mike's going to be grilling her for stories about you," chuckles Jayden.
"Of course he will, doesn't mean she'll spill," answers Kevin with a smile.
Jayden laughs, "Then it will be all the more entertaining watching Mike attempt to get it out of her."

"Bet the girls will be the ones to get it out of her," assumes Antonio.
"Evie didn't," notes Jayden.
"Damn it," huffs Antonio.
"Think you can convince Mike to clean up his room before Alyssa arrives?" asks Kevin looking at Jayden hopefully.
"Evie's probably got a better chance."
"Good point, but thanks again," smiles Kevin before he disappears.
"Think we're going to see a different side to Kevin with his girlfriend around?" asks Antonio.
"Oh yeah," nods Jayden with a snort.
"Can't wait."

Evie was going through Emily's closest with Mia as the two tried to find an outfit for her.
"What sort of thing do you want?" asks Evie looking at Emily.
"I don't know, not something too risqué, but I'd like to look different if that makes sense."
"We get what you mean, you want to get Mike's attention a little?" guesses Mia.
Emily blushes a little but nods.
"Nothing wrong with that, I am definitely out to make Jayden's pulse race," smirks Evie.
"Well it is his birthday, I assume you usually do something?" asks Emily.
"We do yeah, but it's our anniversaries we go all out."
"That's so sweet," sighs Mia wistfully.
"So Em what counts as too risqué for you?"
"Nothing too showy, I don't really have anything to show though," admits Emily self-consciously.
Evie purses her lips for a moment before smiling as she spots something in Emily's closet.
"I have an idea" she says as she grabs a simple black skater dress.
Mia smiles, "We dressing it up?"
"Every girl needs a little black dress."
"Okay, Em, you have a big yellow belt, right?"
"I do," nods Emily.
"Excellent" replies Evie, "Do you have the boots you borrowed from me?" she asks.
Emily nods again.
"Then we are very much in business" assures Mia with a smile.

There's a knock on the door and the three girls turn and see Kevin stood there.
"Hey Kev, wanna help?" chuckles Mia holding up the dress.
"No thank you, actually I am here to ask for your help," says Kevin looking at Evie.
"With?" asks Evie.
"Getting Mike to make his side of the room presentable since Alyssa is staying."
"And why do we assume Evie is the one to get him to do it?" asks Mia.
"Well I mean Em probably could, but given the last time Evie was pretty good," replies Kevin.
"I'll see he cleans it up, just don't have sex in his bed," snorts Evie.
"Gross," shudders Kevin.

The girls just laugh in response.
"Seriously though, thank you for thinking to ask Alyssa" smiles Kevin.
"No problem," replies Mia.
"Yeah it'll be nice to get to know her a little better," nods Evie.
"Definitely," smiles Emily.
"Thanks," says Kevin again before walking back out.

"That was cute," chuckles Evie.
"Wasn't it just," says Mia.
Satisfied Emily's outfit is sorted the girls head out to the living room to watch TV.
As they go to move through to the living Evie suddenly gets a weird feeling, freezing as her gaze slides around the room, stopping on the table that held the map.
For a few moments she stares at it, transfixed until she feels a tap on her arm and turns.
"You okay?" asks Mia.
Evie shakes her head and rubs her temple, "Nothing, maybe pregnancy brain is kicking in," she says as they walk through and sit down, grabbing the remote and flips on the TV turning on the latest episode of Greys Anatomy, but Evie couldn't shake the odd feeling that had settled over her.
"So who's sleeping with who this week?" asks Mike as he drops down next to them, wrapping his arm around Emily.
"No change from last week, yet," answers Mia.
"Speaking of changes and sleeping with who, you need to tidy up your side of the room," says Evie looking at Mike.
"What do you mean?" asks Mike.
"Someone else is going to be staying in your room Mike, ergo, you need to clean it up. Just while Alyssa is here and then you can go back to your organised chaos. But we are having a guest and we are not going to look like complete slobs to one of the few people we've ever invited into this house. You get me?" asks Evie.
"But it's my room," argues Mike.
"Yes in Jayden's house, you need to keep it tidy for less than 24 hours, and you will not be in for a good portion of that time. So please clean up your room or when my mood swings and cravings start kicking in, I will ensure you suffer the brunt of them," warns Evie.
Mike goes to protest but Emily takes his hand, "Just do it Mike, I'll even help if you want."
"Fine" huffs Mike, "but I'm not keeping it like that," he stipulates.
"Nor do we expect you too for any prolonged period of time," assures Evie.
"Bloody Kevin," mutters Mike but Emily leans up and plants a soothing kiss on his cheek, "it's just for a little while," she reminds.
Mike sighs but nods.
"Thank you," says Evie.
"I don't have to do it, until just before she gets here right?" asks Mike.
"No Mike, not until then," assures Mia with a smile.
"Good," smiles Mike.
