A/N: So just a little filler before we hit the big one's, hats off it you figured out where Urumasa is going to take Evie, and as always lemme know what you thought :)
Chapter 32
Jayden walked out of the gate with Kevin.
"Are you okay?" asks Kevin.
"I don't know."
"You're doing the right thing, we need to be able to trust our team to work together and right now, Evie's a loose cannon. Better the devil we know."
"I hope you're right."
"I am, if Evie is at hundred percent, then you will be too. And she is pretty high in ranking of best fighters, even with everything."
They walk out to where Deker attacked Antonio and look around.
"So what now, do we shout?" asks Kevin.
"Deker said he'd be close, and Evie likes to call him my stalker, so let's assume he's nearby."
"Well this was certainly sooner than I thought," comes Deker's voice as he lands behind them.
They turn and see Deker smirking.
"So the black ranger is slowly giving in, and you're watching the woman you love slip away."
"You said if we gave you back the other half the connection to Evie would be broken right?" asks Jayden.
"It will be yes, once re-joined with its other half and in my possession Urumasa will have no interest in the black ranger and she will be freed from its influence."
"And you mean that, this isn't some trick. We give it back to you, Evie goes back to being herself?" clarifies Kevin.
"Yes, the black ranger will cease feeling Urumasa's influence, as for how this will have affected her, I cannot say for certain. But Urumasa will cease attempting to channel her darker impulses. She will no longer have to fight them so actively."
"How do we know that's true, you're a Nighlok and this could all be a trick," notes Kevin.
"Do you have any other option?" asks Deker, "I have no interest in sabotaging you with tricks, I am not Octoroo. I want a duel, and I want you at your best red ranger and for that, you need to not be so divided by worry for your lover. I want Urumasa back and it is of no help to me if it is still influencing her."
"He's right, he wants a straight duel. And given our bond even if we weren't more, Evie's state of mind influences mine," says Jayden before looking at Deker, "How do we separate her from it?"
"Give it to me, once I reconnect with it, the black ranger will be released."
"That's it, we just give it to you?" asks Kevin.
"Yes."
"That seems surprisingly simple" admits Kevin.
"Meet us outside the house in an hour, we'll give you the other half."
"Wise choice red ranger" nods Deker, "I will await your arrival" he says before turning and disappearing.
"Let's get back to the house, Evie's going to be the one we need to convince to back this idea now," sighs Jayden.
They arrive back at the house half an hour later, only to instantly realise there is something wrong.
"Why is the door open?" asks Kevin.
"And why is it so quiet?" agrees Jayden looking around.
They hurry inside and find Ji checking Antonio, while Mike had an ice pack being held to his face by Emily, and he was holding one between his legs as well, and Mia was sat down looking at a bruise on her stomach.
"What happened?" asks Jayden.
"Evie happened," answers Antonio.
"Evie did this?" clarifies Kevin.
"She didn't agree with our plan," replies Emily who out of everyone looked the least worse for wear.
"Where is she?" demands Jayden.
"Gone, with the other half of Urumasa, I think it's safe to say she's given in," replies Mike.
"And you tried to stop her?" guesses Kevin.
"Yeah, and that didn't go as planned," nods Antonio.
"Not at all," agrees Mia.
Evie walked through the house, slipping into Ji's study she walks to the tapestry pulling it down.
"That's it, open it" urges the voice.
Evie feels around and finds a loose panel, and pushing in the same panel opens.
Reaching inside she pulls out the box.
"Let me out, you need me, this is for the best" promises the voice.
She sets the box on the desk, and pulls out her samuraiser she draws the unlock symbol. But can feel it hasn't worked.
"Fine then," she mutters knowing that her symbol power was stronger than anything Ji or Antonio could conjure up. Drawing the symbol for shatter it disappears into the box which breaks open with a loud crack, revealing the broken piece of Urumasa.
"Do it, give in, let me help you. We can make things right" it offers.
Reaching for it Evie suddenly feels a hand close around hers, "Evie stop!" protests Mia trying to pull her back.
Evie turns, twisting sharply as she breaks free of Mia's hold, and unapologetically slammed her elbow into her stomach.
Mia gasps and stumbles back into the wall, the wind knocked out of her.
"Evie no!" calls Mike as he and Antonio barrel into the room, both grabbing onto Evie's arms to hold her back.
Using the two of them Evie flips backwards, twisting both their arms as she crosses hers, slamming her head into Antonio's face and he falls backwards landing on the floor.
She brings her knee up sharply and Mike crumples as she slams it between his legs, as he comes down Evie knocks his head into the desk.
Turning Evie's hand goes for Urumasa, the urge screaming at her to join with it, when its blasted from her hand and she turns to see Ji stood there, "I can't let you do this," he says, "You have to fight this Evie, this isn't you."
Evie look at him, "Maybe this had always been me, I've just spent too much time fighting it. And I will not let Deker have this back," she answers before turning and launching herself towards Urumasa only for something to close around her wrist and she looks down, and sees what looked like mud had hardened around it.
"Nice trick Em," she says.
"Please don't do this Evie, listen to us we're your friends remember," pleads Emily.
Evie pulls her own samuraiser sending a symbol at both Emily and Ji and they're blasted backwards, both landing hard against the wall.
The mud breaks around Evie's hand and she stands up and walks over before kneeling down next to Urumasa, and a second later her hand closes around it.
She gasps as the connection completes, and everything runs across her mind, all the pain, all the anger, all of it. Finally culminating in a single image of her mother smiling with her new family.
"End this, end her and it all goes away," is whispered in her mind.
Evie looks down at Urumasa before turning and walking out of the study, and out of the house. She had something to do, something that had been waiting a long time.
Jayden sits down sharply as the others finish telling him.
"Shit." mutters Kevin.
"Yeah," nods Mike.
"But where would she go? That's what we can't figure out?" asks Emily.
"Could we catch her up? She only left like 20 minutes ago" suggests Antonio.
"No Evie was always very good with her transport symbols, if she has a destination in mind, she's either already there or close by," answers Ji.
"Where would she go?" asks Mia looking at Jayden, "Can you track her?"
Jayden takes a deep breath and closes his eyes trying to trace his bond, but he soon finds himself lost and confused, and he realises the faint feeling is missing, and he opens his eyes.
"No, Urumasa's connection to her is messing with it, like she can't have both in her head at once, and now mine isn't the dominant one."
"So we need to figure out where she's going, and why," says Kevin.
"Yeah but how?" asks Mike.
"We ask the person who understands Urumasa the most. We ask Deker," answers Jayden standing up, "He'll be here in half an hour anyway, and then we hope we can get to Evie in time."
Jayden narrows his eyes as he looks at Deker.
"I don't see Urumasa," notes Deker as he looks at him, Kevin, Mia and Emily stood with him. Given Mike and Antonio were still worse off for injuries.
"Evie's gone, she's bonded completely to Urumasa and disappeared," replies Jayden.
"So she gave in, hmm, she held out longer than I expected," notes Deker.
"How do we break this? Okay Evie's only been gone an hour, we can still get to her, if we can figure out where she is" says Jayden.
"Bring her and the other half of Urumasa to me and the connection will break, assuming of course she hasn't already used Urumasa to kill," replies Deker.
"What do you mean? Where would Urumasa make her go, Evie wouldn't just kill an innocent person," argues Mike.
"If the black ranger has departed and Urumasa is whispering in her mind, she'll want her to give in, to kill. And you're right she's far too strong to kill just anyone, but convincing her to kill the woman who has haunted her nightmares. The woman who destroyed her innocence and left her with scars that will never heal, the woman who is the source of all her doubts, the shadow that lives in her mind. Now that is much easier."
"Oh my god, Nia, Urumasa is sending her after Nia," realises Jayden.
"No Evie moved past that, she wrote her mom off," argues Mia, "and not even Evie could kill her mom."
"You know so little pink ranger, do you think it is only hurt and fear that her mother elicits in the black ranger. No there is hatred and anger there too. All it takes is a little coaxing and just one moment of blind hatred, one strike and the black ranger will be lost to you forever. If you know where her mother is then you need to get to her before the black ranger does, or the woman you know and love, will be gone."
"Mia, Kevin, Emily wait here with him, make sure he doesn't try anything. I'll get Evie," says Jayden as he turns and runs back inside.
"Ji I need Nia's address now, Urumasa wants her to kill her mother!"
Ji nods and hurries into his office finding the card and handing it over.
"I'll transport we can't risk anything slower, but it'll need to be a couple of trips to get us to Silver Hills," says Jayden.
"I'm coming too," says Mike standing up.
"Mike-" starts Jayden.
"No damn it Jayden, Evie's like my sister, I'm not being left behind here," snaps Mike.
"Wait, what if you call the Silver Guardian guys those two other reds Evie met? The one who helped get the file on her mom, maybe they can get to her since they're already there? Stall her at least?" suggests Antonio.
"Eric and Wes, that could work, Evie said Eric gave her his card," nods Jayden as he runs into his room and finds the card, handing it to Mike, "Make the call, I'll need a minute to do this since I haven't tried to transport like this before."
Mike nods and pulls out his samuraiser, they had to get there in time, they just had too.
