Four years ago

"Isn't this great" Another groan leaving Shikamaru, possibly for the millionth time since arriving at the Leaf's defense camp in the west a few days ago, along with his team. Ino, having spoken, smiled determined at the mission ahead, as she ran at his side, Choji following to his other. With the sudden mention of an ambush on the border patrol he didn't hesitate to heed his father's words about his real intent as the new commander against Suna's troops. Although still not happy with the reason he knew better than to question Tsunade's hidden message, after all they were just pawns, shinobi with no say in arguing against it "Shikamaru this is our first battle against the Sand" Ino continued as he glared back annoyed at her need to push the matter further "the least you could do is not look so bored about it, you might send a bad message to their captain, you have to look fierce like a man who commands respect" She rolled her eyes, returning his annoyance, before jumping after him as the three climbed into the trees the distant sound of a battle filling the air and silencing them.

"What are we supposed to do anyways?" Choji called as he landed on the branch besides them, a slight worry behind his words, considering they were all still getting used to the position placed on them "Just look intimidating? Do we kill them?" Ino smirked at the thought, Shikamaru once again dropped his head with a groan tired of repeating his first orders to just about everyone in the camp. He stated to keep away from their border patrols as not to provoke them, yet here he was fighting at the border because someone was provoked.

"Just let me handle it, we aren't supposed to be battling anyone" He warned his head shooting to his right tensing at the sudden cry, he could tell it was one of his. Then the harsh shake in the branches before a gust wind slashed through, subtle thuds of trees falling in the distance and then silence "Let's go" He called back rushing towards the battle. Hearing distant talking, a gruff laugh amused by something, Shikamaru slowed his pace peering from the branches at the shadows below then another cry rapidly silenced, another dead. Ino watched him waiting for his command, which he made with certainty as he moved, she followed, Choji not far behind as the three landed to the path facing the back of their enemies, four including the commanders of the Sand. Inwardly wanted to let out another groan at his own misfortune of the inevitable encounter Shikamaru narrowed his eyes, possibly taking Ino's advice not to look bored.

"Well well" He tensed at the mocking voice laced with venom meant to intimidate her opponents into fear. Her head tilting to the side the shining glint of narrowed teals meeting his, the cold stare widening slightly at the sight of the three, before she turned and faced them. Graceful movements, as her arm rested at the end of her splayed fan, three moons staring back alongside her, and the tug of a smirk pulled at her lips, as if amused. A split second of unease rushed over him at the gesture, or possibly the fact that he had stared in a way that wasn't meant for an enemy. He was supposed to make sure this woman didn't die, yet he felt as though he needed the protection when her glare set on his, analyzing him, probing for a weakness it seemed. Shikamaru could sense the anxious shift in his team as they stared her down, however she didn't flinch unfazed by their silent warning "What do we have here? Reinforcements?" The tuffs of sandy hair moved with the tilt in her head, taunting their presents among her. Feeling the sudden shift in Ino's posture, he knew she'd say something out of line to fuel the fire burning in the eyes of the woman, waiting for her chance to strike, his hand raised before Ino opened her mouth forcing himself to speak over the tense silence.

"You're in Fire country, we'll give you one warning to retreat, or else" leaving no room for misinterpreting his warning, he unexpectedly found himself intimidated by her amused chuckle as she straightened clearly finding no threat in them.

"Who made you captain, kid" Shikamaru's ego bruised just slightly at the mention, sarcastic, cruel, loud woman, no wonder Temari was named commander of the Sand, she could probably terrorize her opponent to death with just her voice, however he'd been prepared for the worse, always was. He smirked, pleased to have the upper hand over her control, his stance relaxing as the thuds of his reinforcement appearing as if on cue, her gaze never wavering from his, but she knew. He almost didn't hear the grumble of Kankuro behind her having sensed the shift in the trees.

"The Fifth Hokage had reinforced the western border and I am now in charge of the Leaf's defense against you Suna troops" with a sigh knowing he'd won, to his relief, he awaited her move "it's a drag but someone's gotta do it" proud of himself for the first victory, maybe a little, as her head lowered acknowledging her defeat, at least until he noticed her smug grin. The discomfort refused to show itself physically but just barely. Temari huffed, the sound of metal shutting closed, and she turned walking away as if she could care less that she was outnumbered, then a pause in her movements, eyes turning back to meet his. Her next words finally stilling his chest along with the unease he'd been concealing.

"I expect you to be more of a challenge than the last guy" she was throwing her last taunt back at him like a command, successful in her attempt to surface his nerves, or possibly his annoyance against her refusal to comply quietly "Been kinda boring on your border anyways" his eyes resting on her lips the subtle soften of an almost kind smile betraying her spoken words "Let's hope you don't give up" his hold broke on the kind smile "on your first week as captain" dark gaze shot back at hers, the teal pulling his attention forward into the trap she set "Shikamaru Nara" He stared at her back until she had left the clearing, barley registering the rest of his unit coming to aid the fallen. Great, he thought, this was gonna be a drag.

A simple graze of her lips and he gave in.

Either Shikamaru was more weak minded than he thought or this woman really knew how to make a man tremble under her, he went with the latter. The matches between them had changed, much to his surprise he never thought he'd honestly fall for it, yet here he was staring up into the enticing smile of the woman to captivated to think, let alone speak any reasoning towards it. He probably should have rethought his gesture earlier with the silk slipping, then again, the only thought behind that was if he hadn't covered her up, he probably would have done something stupider. She as usual made a move first and he had been caught, short and simple. Back to giving up and letting her lead, not that he had complained, until the smile.

He wasn't too sure why he got mad over it, let alone why his body seemed to move on its own, retaliation maybe? The smile was simple, yet he found more meaning behind it. Still beautiful in all it's forms poets could write pages about how her smile could mean a hundred different things, but this one, he just knew, was laid out like a trap. Mistrust remained between them after all and he wasn't about to sit back and let her do as she pleased; she only gave in when he made her. A lead could be pulled both ways after all. Yet his final thought before giving in to temptation, he'd protect her with his life.

Damn smile.

The moment his hand brushed against the soft skin on her thigh she stilled, her eyes flashing back to the more well-known wrathful look she usual had, as if she was ready to go into a battle against him. Usually by now he'd have thought of a way to escape it, or her, but something in his gut told him to press on and urge a reaction from her, possibly one that he didn't expect until his hand pressed further into the skin gipping gently on the leg as if to not break the soft flesh. He pushed forward, using his free arm to lift himself up, the moment her eyes faltered, no anger meaning he could continue, placing his lips towards her neck, hesitating only a moment to her surprise at the action. She arched back allowing him to place a tender kiss against the skin, in a way testing what she would do. He felt the inhale of her gasp against his chest and inwardly grinned, placing another just below the first hearing her lips part in a strained pant, shocked at his audacity, but remained still.

Hell, he was shocked he kept going, with every response she gave he felt a need to continue. He wasn't necessarily a man to do extra work if he could help it but how could he be lazy at a time like this, each reaction motivating him to push harder to hear the soft sounds coming from her, no harsh words just little silent pleas to go on. Up until he pressed just close to the base of her neck and the moan bitten back brought a victorious smirk to his lips. Temari pulled back glaring down at him face flush with her building rage or was she just reacting to how close he'd gotten to the curve of her shoulder, same one he slipped the silk back onto.

"Rethinking your move?" leaning back on his hands, letting his hand on her leg go, Shikamaru chose to not push his luck further and relax his smile, keeping his eyes to hers as she contemplated, thinking on what to do next it seemed. She could hurt him, she was close enough for that to have affect, or possibly jump right back in and continue the fight over that power she craved so much, she did like having control of a situation and when that was lost, she became flustered to easily, not to mention easier to read her reaction. The sudden shout outside pulled his focus away from the match and he quickly turned back to spot a shadow rushing past the tent along with more excess noise. Temari pulled away pushing lightly from his chest and stood stepping around to come to the entrance of the tent before becoming the wrathful woman she was at the sound of her name, eyes narrowed, and lips turned into a sneer at the sudden mentions.

"Lady Temari!" The voices were familiar, he'd heard them before, he was sure. Her students maybe? "Lord Kazekage is here!" He turned his attention to her watching her face ultimately soften and her lip's part, shocked that the news was true, before she pulled at the curtain and slipped her head out speaking to the fidgeting shadows.

"What do you mean the Kazekage is here, Matsuri?" She demanded her tone unforgivingly raised.

"Lord Gaara he's here our scouts spotted him headed towards camp" one of the girls spoke, probably Matsuri.

"Yeah, and he brought reinforcements" Then the excitement of the other one joined her. At the mention of the Kazekage Shikamaru went pale and quickly stood, a new unease washing over him. Great start to meeting the Kaze of another country, blushing red after making out with his sister, reasonable move made you idiot.

"When Gaara gets to camp tell him to meet in the war room understood?" The girls didn't answer as she had already pulled away gripping the curtain tightly before shutting them on the two. Glancing back at Temari she was tense as she pulled back trying to seem calm about it, clearly failing. He would have asked if she didn't turn to him with a ruthless glare, as if he'd don't something wrong. He shot back his own look of annoyance to fight against her, prompting a huff before speaking "I told him one thing, stay in Suna don't some near the front right now and what does he do? He comes to the front anyways. Damn it Gaara" She marched toward him gripping his shoulder and turned him around facing the side of the tent where the table sat "Don't look" One demand firm and with warning before she let go and walked past his confused hesitation to look after her.

"Why can't I" Stupid he was just stupid for asking. The sudden weight to his shoulder pulled his attention away from speaking as his eyes caught the sight of black silk hanging over it. He forced his eyes forward, his face burning, not needing to know more, as he knew she was changing meaning she was undressed. Great more ways to make him uneasy, the woman didn't let up. He listened sparsely to her irritated rant going on behind him as she moved.

"The one thing I asked, and he just doesn't listen" She sighed heavily "Kankuro might be my favorite brother right now" with a groan she continued moving behind him. Shikamaru's mind focused on trying not to imagine anything, just stare ahead into the sandy colored fabric, his eyes slowly turning to the black fabric draped over his shoulder then right back to the tent as if spooked. The Kazekage was here, he would have to speak to him, the same man he had held in his shadow to stop him from killing Lee eight years ago, that seemed like motivation enough to keep his eyes forward. He just didn't need to think about her lips or the soft sounds coming from his sister, inwardly shrinking away from the idea of being buried in sand. He might have pushed his luck around her. Just as he was about to overthink the matter further, not that he hadn't already thought far enough into it, Temari came back to his side a tie hanging from her mouth as her hands pulled to separate her hair behind her "You're quiet" she mumbled through the string amused at his rigid posture.

"A man should respect a woman's privacy" he muttered back, quick to think of anything that didn't sound idiotic, eyes still forward, blush still intact, avoiding her currently to fight the unease rising in his chest. Pulling the string from her mouth she smirked up at him, satisfied by the response, before stepping into his view forcing his eyes to hers.

"I'm dressed you know" He glanced down before turning his widened gaze to the right, a new wave of embarrassment hitting him "Mostly" She appeared to have failed to mention that her kimono rested open, just covering breasts but not the skin in between, clad in a fishnet shirt to revealing even then "What never seen a half naked women before?" she chuckled under her breath. Back to square one, she held power and he simply gave up choosing to be respectable once again, there went his confidence. Pleased with herself for his unease she grabbed the silk from his tense shoulder deliberately slow, as if to unnerve him further, and stepped away "How considerate of you" she mused almost softly, as if some part of her was happy he avoided it, or she was mocking him.

"I'm not a pervert you know" He grumbled patting his vest to avoid speaking further, still uncomfortable, he grabbed his pack and was quick to light the cigarette, something to occupy him from her movement behind him.

"I'm sure you aren't" she chuckled behind him then silently continued shuffling around. A tap to his shoulder pulled his attention back to her, still cautious, however to move gripping the end of his cigarette between his teeth as if she'd trick him again "well come on" Her tug on his elbow as she hooked hers over his pulled him back with a protesting grumble from him being forced to face her his glare down at her as she spoke "Wouldn't want to keep a Kazekage waiting now would we?" She let go and lifted her headband to her forehead, the shining glint of the Sand symbol catching his eye before slowly returning a softer gaze down to hers. Temari stilled her hands lowering them, staring back, both silent as the noise outside begin to fade. Teal gaze slowly trailed to his lips and back, her lips parting softly, his eyes turning down to watch her speak "Don't make me look bad in there Shikamaru" she glared back once again setting her face to one of warning "I'm quite unforgiving" With a puff he huffed out the smoke and narrowed his eyes back.

"I can believe that troublesome woman"

The excitement had died down in camp, somewhat, many remained speaking among each other at their leader's unsuspected appearance along with reinforcements, fueling the moral in camp immensely. Gaara had entered the war room, the silence coming from inside beckoning everyone to follow suit and prepare for the battle come tomorrow. The guards at the entrances remained still ready for any attack aside from one. Saku glanced back towards Temari's tent, leaning further and further almost stumbling when Daiken spoke.

"With Lord Kazekage here, you think he'll fight in the battle?" Daiken glanced over at Saku watching the man's attempt to stare into the camp, no doubt at their Lady's tent, again and shouted for his attention "Saku man up will you" the sudden call to his name making the man flinch back as he straightened looking apologetically at his companion.

"Sorry Daizen just wondering when the meeting between the commanders will end" he stammered slightly rubbing his arm nervously and looked down.

"Why do you even bother looking at our Lady, you wanna die boy?" Daizen groaned looking sternly at Saku another weak grin resting on his worried face "That woman would laugh at you if you got to close, no man should stumble on his words when talking to such a woman that is cowardly" he chuckled at Saku's unease at the truth "So man up, just don't be like that guy. You remember that guy?" he paused "What's his name?" he looked away thoughtful, Saku grumbled responding

"Kenji" Saku spoke, more like muttered the response.

"Yeah, Kenji that's right" Daizen chuckled gruffly at the memory of the man "man got a broken nose to looking at her wrong, if you ask me, he should have gotten worse"

"Daizen, Kenji tried to touch her" Saku murmured hearing this rumor a hundred different ways, truth being Kenji had tried to flirt with Temari before she took command of the front line, and in trying to lean in he got a fist full of her well-known rage to his nose, and a threat that every man in camp still remembered to this day, each fearing and respecting her more. With a sigh he turned away and looked back at the tent, but she was always smiling to those she trusted.

"Either way he rightfully deserved it, no one should mess with our Kaze No Megami" he almost sounded dreamy, a man who was loyal to the Subakuno family for years "she is a ruthless woman with divine beauty" Daizen continued but Saku had zoned him out, the shift in the tent catching his eager attention. Temari stepped out turning back to watch as the Leaf's commander follow beside her, each casting a glare at one another, then she smiled up at him. Saku's eyes widened, his Lady was dressed, she wasn't before he remembered she hadn't been dressed in uniform at least, he stared at her after all. She smiled at him; it wasn't her normal smug grin accompanied with a taunt at her enemy. She just smiled. Saku turned his green eyes back staring quietly past the rocky ravine, where his enemy stood.

Don't hate on my man Saku but this should be interesting to work with my own OC
