A Journey of Love

Chapter 2. ~ Elizabeth Awakes with a Smile ~

Elizabeth opened her eyes slowly as she awakened to the dawn. She smiled to herself as she remembered that this was her wedding day and she would be joining Lucas in the library to exchange their vows. She was looking forward to the moment that Joseph declared them man and wife. She stretched and wanted to purr like a cat as she closed her eyes and imagined the moment when she saw Lucas today in their special place. Rosemary had promised to come by with breakfast when it was time to get up so for the moment she could just rest and daydream and depend on her friend to wake her should she fall asleep. Plus, she knew that Jack would be waking up soon and would come snuggle.

A while later, Elizabeth heard a knock on the door signaling it was time to put things in motion. Rosemary had a key and would let herself in so Elizabeth gave Jack one last cuddle and said, "let's go see what Auntie Rosie has for our breakfast." They went down to find the table already set, the tea service on the table along with a small pot of hot chocolate for Jack. Rosemary had prepared fluffy scrambled eggs just as Jack liked them and buttermilk biscuits with freshly churned butter and her famous blackberry jam. The food was extra tasty and after Elizabeth was finished, she went to the door and opened it to greet the beautiful morning. Everything had been tastier, the air smelled fresher, and the day looked brighter than ever. It was their big day.

Rosemary had been busy preparing Elizabeth's bath and would wash her hair for her and set her near the fire to dry it. The scent of orange blossoms began to permeate the air as she planned to scent Elizabeth's hair with the sweet aroma. Jack was jabbering showing his excitement for the day. They would be dropping him off with Lee before heading to town. Lee would be taking him to join Lucas to dress for the wedding. Rosemary had made him a little boy version of the wedding suit and he was going to look adorable.

They settled Jack with some of his favorite toys while Rosie attended to Elizabeth's hair while she soaked in the tub. She was going to be a beautiful bride; she had a special glow today and her blue eyes had an extra sparkle to them. She was so happy for her friend who had found her special person to love for a lifetime.

Rosie had Elizabeth sit by the fire while she used a towel to get out some of the moisture; as it dried in the warmth of the fire, Rosie brushed Elizabeth's hair until it was glossy. While they sat, Elizabeth daydreamed about the weekend that she, Lucas, and Jack had spent. They had taken a drive to appreciate the light snow that had dusted the area and had bundled for a walk along their bridge. Jack was happy to be holding hands as they swung him along the bridge between them. And on the way home, they had stopped at the mercantile to purchase what they needed to make a pot of soup for dinner. They were becoming quite the domestic threesome and they couldn't wait until Lucas would be with them all night and wake up to them in the morning. Of course, his schedule would still have him going off in the evening to help at the saloon but he had plans to take on a new manager that would give him more flexible time. He had worked hard to afford himself the luxury of devoting himself primarily to his new family.

It was now approaching 10:00 and time to head off to the Nichols and Dimes where Fiona would meet them. They each grabbed a suitcase that they had carefully packed the day before and headed out to the car. Lee was waiting for them and as soon as he saw them come out of the house, he headed over to pick up Jack who was skipping and hopping all the way back to Lee and Rosemary's.
