I find myself at a building with a sign above it after wandering throughout the town that read 'Adventurer's Guild' as I sike myself up. What being a new world and all, I was skeptical of whether I can tolerate people again, as I don't want to remember the old life I used to live before I isolated myself to the mountains.
I threw caution to the wind as I opened the doors to my new life as an Adventurer. The bustling of people made me hesitate for a moment, but I steeled my resolve as I trudged forward as I was greeted by one of the locals.
"Well now, what do we got here, some fresh meat?"
I look to a brawny man as he welcomes me as I walk through the doors. I respond back in courtesy that would befit a fantasy-esque world. "Well, I just arrived in town not too long ago from a far away land, looking for a fresh start and begin my journey to defeating the Demon King."
The brawny dude laughed in jolly spirits as he raises his mug towards me. "Well kid, welcome once again to the gates of hell." I take my leave as I see a receptionist desk not too far from the entrance. I walk up to the counter as a young woman perks up as she sees a new face.
"Hello." I say politely. "I was wondering if I could ask on how to be an Adventurer? I came from a distant country to look for work and I'm not sure on how this all works out?"
The woman smiled as she replies, "Well of course, I can get you started out as an Adventurer right away! All I need is the necessary eris for the application fee." I wince as I realize I didn't have any money to give so I was about to say something when a big oafish guy shoved past me as he talks to the lady. "Hey Luna-chan, wouldn't you please go on a date with me?!"
I immediately respond back with a kick to the head.
"I WAS HERE FIRST, FATSO!"
The man went flying through the guildhall as he lands behind the bar, with probably a bump on his head as the other Adventurers look in shock and awe as I, a fifteen-year-old, 5"4' kid just up and sent a grown man flying with a single kick to the head. I took a moment and realized what I did and immediately felt flushed with embarrassment. I turned back towards the now named 'Luna' as I bow my head in apology.
"I'm sorry about that! It just came as a reflex, I didn't mean to be seen as a rude meathead!"
Luna looks back at and laughs.
Great, now my life is over in this new world.
"Oh no troubles there! In fact, he always harasses me to go on a date with him at least once a week. It was no trouble at all. In fact, I think that was kind of chivalrous to me."
I look back up as I see that I had nothing to fear in this new world. I guess even chivalry, albeit one on accident, can get you some kind of respect, even in another world. But that still didn't fix my money situation, that is, until I saw that when I kicked the big oaf out of my way, he dropped a pouch on the ground. I bent to pick it up and saw it had some coins in it. Well hey, finders keepers.
I pulled out some coins and handed her what I assume was the appropriate amount. "Alright then, now place your hand over this crystal and it'll be finalized." I look and see a crystal ball with a needle underneath as I place my hand over it. A light shines as a blank card is filled out showing my name and stats. As it finishes, Luna picks up my card and gives it a once over.
"Let's see now," she suddenly freezes as she looks at my Adventurer card as she continues. "What in the world?! You have some impressive stats for a beginner. With exception to average luck, Your stars are high enough stats to choose from the advanced classes." Suddenly everyone in the guild hall overhears Luna's proclamations.
"What's this? A new rookie with high stats?!"
"Wow! Looks like we got a shining new star on the scene!"
"Goodness, he's even cute at that, too."
Wow, suddenly, the whole guild is in an uproar all because I had high stats. Kinda surreal, if you ask me.
Luna hands me back my card as she continues, "Well with those kinds of stats, you could choose any class there is." I looked confused as to what class to choose from, so I asked, "What kind of classes are there to choose from?"
Luna smiled back as she handed me what looked like a pamphlet with the words 'WHICH CLASS TO CHOOSE FROM' in all caps and bold letters. Very convenient to have something ready for newbies.
I took hold of the pamphlet and browsed through each class as I wanted one that struck my fancy. Not long after a bit of browsing did I come across one of the advance classes.
Sword Mage
An advance class that specializes in close range combat with swords as well as the ability to use magic at great efficiency.
Now that peaked my interest.
"I've decided to choose Sword Mage."
"Excellent! And that about covers the application process. If you have any questions, just feel free to ask any of us at the guild hall." With that, she bid me farewell as she returned to her duties as everyone else dispersed, all except for one person that is.
"YOU! GIVE ME BACK MY MONEY!" It was the same guy I kicked out of my way when I was registering, guess he finally came too. I decided to respond. . . accordingly.
"Well, first off, don't just shove people out of your way because you want to go on a date with the nice guild lady, but you should wait your turn as I was clearly here first." The big oaf scrunched his face as he got more red in the face, like a tomato. "THAT STILL DOESN'T MEAN TO USE MY MONEY TO PAY FOR YOUR ADVENTURER'S CARD!" He yells in my face as I slowly make a fist behind my back if worst came to shove. "Well, you dropped it, so as the old saying goes, 'finders' keepers, losers weepers' as they say in my old country."
I was about to walk away when the big oaf decided to grab my shoulder. That was a big nono on his part. And the last.
With that prepared fist, I sock the guy a new one as he gets knocked out, flat on his back as he goes back into dreamland. As I walk back to the receptionist desk, I toss back the guy's money, seeing as I'll just make my own from now on.
"Hey Jake! We need some help with this lumber, could you give a hand?"
"Sure thing, Boss!"
I stride over to the lumber as I heave the log on my shoulder. It's been a week since I came to this world, and I didn't expect that no money, means no equipment, and no equipment, means no going on quests and making bank. So, I picked up some manual labor to save up to at least get me a sword, and with today's labor, I will finally have enough to nab that sword at the blacksmith's forge.
"Alright men, day's over! Come get your pay!"
With the day finally over, it was time to hit the hay, although for most adventurers and newbies starting out, the metaphor was more literal. As I didn't have a place to afford without any money, I was forced to sleep in the stables with hay as my only bed. Luckily with today's pay, all of that would change as I have enough for that sword I have my eye on. Though if I had to be honest, the sword I plan to get looks as if it came straight out of an anime. Not sure which as I wasn't much of an avid watcher like most people were back in my world. The blacksmith said someone commissioned for it years ago, but the damn thing was too heavy, so the guy kept it until someone was willing to buy it. I came in not long after I arrived and saw said sword and tried it out. Luckily, living in those mountains while working on cutting trees and carrying them to make a cabin would give one the strength to lift anything really.
He said that someone called it the 'Dark Repulser' sword as it was three-and-a-quarter feet long in length as it had a cyan color blade with dagger-like cross guard on two ends with a black grip for the hilt.
All the work over the week will have finally paid off as with a weapon, I can finally get going with trying to level up in this world.
With the Dark Repulser in hand, I set off on the first quest in my life as an adventurer. Although, what I didn't expect was that being what would be my first kill quest.
"GET OVER HERE, YOU SLIMY ASSHOLE!"
Yep. Giant toads were a thing here.
As I needed to get some practical experience, I asked one of the adventurers what a simple quest would be to start on, and toads were the first to come to mind. Good thing to note was that they were easy to kill. Downside was that they don't keep still to let you hit them long enough.
I kept running after the toad. If only I could use live bait and strike while they're distracted. Suddenly, the sky turned dark as what appeared to be magic circles filled the sky as another toad sitting off in the distance was smack dab in the middle of it. As I turn to look who was casting an enormous spell, the toad I was chasing stopped as well, only to turn around and swallow me whole.
The first thing to come to mind was the smell. The most god awful smell of the inside of a toad's mouth as it attempted to eat me. Big mistake.
I thrust the sword in hand through what appears to be the stomach and I start stabbing and slashing until the toad relented and spat me out as it croaked its last… well croak.
As I get up, I see the spell that was going on finally reach completion as I hear a shout.
"EXPLO~SION!"
I look over to see a girl that seemed a year or two younger than me, dressed in a black cloak, wide brim witch hat, and a staff of wood as she smirks proudly at her kill. To me, it took my breath away seeing the wind from that explosion blow past her, giving an amazing look that befitted an adventurer.
Then, she fell flat on her face.
…Okay, that ruined the whole adventurer vibe.
