After that little fiasco that was supposed to be my sexy dream, I visited the succubus shop and got an apology from the one who was in charge of my dream. I said there was no worries, but the look on her face said otherwise. After tipping the succubus a generous tip, I head back to the mansion to check and make sure that stupid goddess hasn't done anything to my mansion.
At the mansion
I walk into the living room as I see Kazuma and Aqua bickering over who gets the spot in front of the couch. I also see Megumin and Darkness playing what could be this world's version of chess, only with added pieces that I don't know about. I'll have to ask about how the game works later. But seeing this causes me to feel something was missing. Just seeing the complacency of my party doesn't sit well with me.
Well, I'll have to think about later as I go and check on my dragon eggs. After I got these eggs, I keep getting merchants and others of different kinds of people have heard of my recent acquirement of these eggs. I'll be damned to hell before I give up both eggs. What I planned to do was make the soon-to-be dragons become my familiars. I might let Kazuma have one, but I'm still deciding on that one. Aqua tried to claim one of the eggs as she likes the idea of a pet dragon, but I said she could go jump off a bridge as I was NEVER going to let her have something of mine.
After a bit of research, I find that the eggs need to be constantly heated in fire as hot as a dragon's breath. With acquiring some new spells skills from the level ups, we have been gaining as of late, I acquired the Dragon's Breath skill that help's keep the fire going. I make sure that at least someone's home to keep the fire going as I wait for when the eggs hatch. Though the fire needs fuel that burns longer, so I visit a magical shop for any supplies.
That visit will not be forgottened.
Earlier in the week at the Magic Shop
"So how come you want to come with me to a magic shop? I'm only going to see if they have something to keep the fire going longer."
Along with myself, Kazuma, and Aqua follow along as I look around Axel to find this supposed shop.
"Well, it's a magic shop, right? No way I would miss out on seeing what goes on inside one of those kinds of shops with wares that could possibly boost my potential as an Adventurer."
Aqua giggles at that as she replies, "Well, I guess that even a shut-in needs all the help he could get, even with being more useful now, you neet."
"What was that you good-for-nothing goddess!"
Kazuma began pulling Aqua's cheeks as she cried in retaliation as I focused on finding this shop. I round a corner and see a shopkeeper sweeping the front of a shop. She has a voluptuous figure, wearing a dark purple robe with light purple underneath as it is adorned with yellow accents. To top it off was what looked to be a pair of bat wings held together with a cross pin. She has long, wavy brown hair with part of her hair blocking her eyes, which were hazel in color. Overall, she is stunning to look at. After what seems like forever, I walk over to the woman as she turns and notices my group as I stop before her.
"Excuse me, but do you happen to . . ."
The shopkeeper drops her broom as Kazuma and Aqua also notices her as well, stopping their bickering.
"Eeehhh~! What are you doing here?!" Both Aqua and the shopkeeper yelled at the same time. The shopkeeper tried to run back into the shop but was tackled by the goddess as Aqua was about to ruffle up her clothes until I walked over and grabbed the so-called goddess by the back of her shirt.
With a sweet smile that said otherwise, I asked, "So mind telling me why you're tackling an innocent woman in the middle of the road?"
Aqua looks back with shock as she points at the woman and says, "That woman you see is actually a Lich. I'm only doing my duty as a goddess and purging that undead and. . ." Whatever else she was going to say was cut off by Kazuma karate chopping Aqua on the head.
"Look," Kazuma replies. "I'll explain."
One explanation later
We are now in the shopkeepers shop, as she is now known as Wiz, who is now serving Aqua some tea as Aqua still had the gall to act all stuck up with Wiz now knowing that she is a goddess. Apparently, Wiz was the one who was relieving the souls in the graveyard until Aqua and Kazuma came by and Aqua went and be herself.
I was currently browsing the wares of the shop, but from what I see, there seems to be useless junk of items that would be pointless or too dangerous. Just as I was about to give up, I see a worn out, old book in the back of the shelf. I pick it up and asked Wiz, "So Wiz-san, what's the deal with this dingy book?"
Wiz looks over from her conversation with Kazuma as she sees what I am holding, before giving me a confused look. "Where did you find that? I don't remember that book being here before."
I look back at the book in hand, I open it up to find letters I've never seen before. Wiz looks over my shoulder to look as well but is also as confused as I am about it. Kazuma and Aqua come over to look at it as well.
Suddenly, Aqua gains a surprised look before looking apprehensive about the book. What could cause someone like her to look at a book with caution. Then, the pages of the book glow a darkly aura before a rusty sword came out of the book itself. The sword was massive in width as it has what appears to be a long sword hilt, but a massive blade with the bottom pointing inward. Looking in awe, I grab a hold of the sword, but as I grabbed the handle, I notice that my magic getting sucked out from me. I drop the book along with the sword as it drops with a thud to the floor.
Aqua grabs the handle as well, but immediately lets go as she yelps in surprise at the sword.
"What the hell is that?! It weighs so much and it sucks up magic like a straw."
Well then, a sword that sucks in magic from the user. How interesting.
I pick up the sword with ease and put it back into the book it came out of. The book closed back up and dropped to the floor with a thud. I pick up the book and look at the shopkeeper and ask, "So, is the book for sale?"
That shocked the group as the mere thought of using something so insane as a sword that sucks up magic from the user would be tedious and a waste of money at most. Wiz comes out of her shock as she seems to be reluctant in giving someone a pointless weapon, but I was very insistent on it. I don't know why, but I have the feeling that I might find a use for something like this.
"Wait, so you learned some magic from Wiz-san?"
Kazuma looks smug as he goes on about the new skill he learned from the Lich, Drain Touch, as well as what could be done with it. Though I didn't notice what was happening as I was browsing the store. I was a little irked that Aqua tried to purify the friendly Lich shopkeeper, but I didn't linger on the feeling as Kazuma had that taken care of. Sometimes I feel glad I have someone else that is not as brainless as the resident Arch-Priest.
We walk back to the mansion when I see Darkness running toward us in a hurry. She stops in a huff, but not out of breath, as she starts to say, "Jake-san! You need to come see this, the dragon eggs are starting to move."
Immediately I bolt ahead of the group as I full on sprint towards the manor with fervor. No way in hell am I missing something as a dragon hatching.
Megumin's POV
I wait by the fire as I look in anticipation for the miracle that is a mighty dragon hatch into the world. Plus, I want to see what baby dragons look like too.
As the eggs start moving more, I hear the front door open as I turn and see Jake barge into the room.
"Are they here yet?!" He shouts. I shook my head. "No, they only started to move ten minutes ago."
Jake kneels by me as he stares at the eggs with a stare that held anticipation at seeing new life being born into the world. I completely understand as well.
The rest of our party came into the living room as well and look on from a distance with the exception of Aqua as she comes in close as well. The eggs start cracking in the fire, with from the top circling around as in a spiral.
It seems almost surreal seeing baby dragons hatch for the first time. Seeing life in the process of being born into the world was as one could say a magical experience to see.
The eggs began to crack open even more as they roll out of the fire place.
Right in Aqua laps.
"AAAAAHHHHH! Goes the screaming of the holy water goddess that is Aqua as she flails away and rolls in pain on the floor. I saw the eggshells cracking off as in the place of the eggs were two little baby dragons, who seemed to be staring at the goddess rolling on the floor in pain.
Jake's POV
There they were.
The little baby dragons of the dragon that was supposed to be my kill in this fantasy world, who the glory went to the resident Explosion Arch-Wizard, was right there looking at Aqua in pain of having searing hot dragon eggs land in your lap. It was amusing to see as I look a little closer to the little dragons. One of them has crimson red scales with ruby red eyes as it eyes Aqua for a bit before looking at me. Its sibling has viridian green scales with emerald green eyes. While both look similar to each other, they both had their differences, with the red dragon having a sharper looking mouth than the green ones more rounded mouth.
I reach into my I.S.D. and pull out a slab of cooked boar that I saved for a later time. One of the perks to my storage is that it doesn't spoil anything in it, especially great for storing hot food at a later date.
Both of the newborn dragons looks at me with interest as I hold in front, and then proceed to toss it in the air real quick and pull out a small dagger and slice the slab in half, giving me two slices of meat. After the meat dropped to the floor, the baby dragons sniffed the meat, and then started to devour the meat with gusto.
I smile as I think of what to call them as I remember that once dragons receive names, they won't respond to any other name but the given one. I think for a minute as I come up with the appropriate names.
Finally, with some names in thought, I reach out and pet the baby dragon's heads as I spoke aloud, "From here on out, your names will be. . ."
"Chu-. . ."
Kazuma quickly silences Megumin as we both knew for a fact that her naming sense is as bad as the rest of her clan's names are. Especially with the chuunibyou tendencies that they share.
"Like as I was saying, to the dragon that is as red as crimson, you will be Phenex, and to the dragon that is as green as an emerald, you will be Legolas."
. . .
"Pfft, did you seriously name one of them after who I think you named him after."
My cheeks burned red in embarrassment as I retort back, "Well I don't see you coming up with good names on the spot that isn't from a book or game."
"Touché."
Darkness on the other hand had sparkles in her eyes as she witnessed not only baby dragons being born, but even hearing names that sounded like ones that fit the noblest of dragon's.
"I am just amazed," she says, "Not only did you name two dragons, but also made them your familiars too."
Kazuma and I stop and stare at her as we both realize that it is a big deal that we got to see dragons hatching into the messed-up world that we currently reside in, but we feel glad regardless.
Megumin, however, looked a little sullen at not being able to name the dragons herself. As it should be, as I was the one that found the eggs, they were rightfully mine to name as well. With that out of the way, I go to the dragons and ease them over to me, via making a 'come here' motion with my hand.
Both of the dragons see this and then slowly but surely, they make their way over to me as I pet them again, giving scratches to the side of their heads. They lean into them with satisfied purrs coming out with each scratch.
This is going to be an interesting adventure raising these two.
The Next Day
People were looking at our group in awe as I strolled through town as I make my way to the guildhall to register the dragon's as my familiars. Darkness said that every familiar was to be registered to an Adventurer whenever they have one. Even Megumin has one, that little cat she has with the white cross on its forehead, Chomusuke. I didn't even know she had one until yesterday when the little guy came out of hiding beneath the sofa, eyeing the dragon's from a distance. To me it looked intimidated by Legolas and Phenex, but I could be wrong.
We walk to into the guildhall and see that everyone was being their usual selves until one of them shouted, "Are those dragon's?"
That stopped all conversation as the Adventurers whispered among themselves as I walk over to Luna-san and get right to business.
"Good morning, Luna-san. I'm here to register these dragon's as my familiars."
Luna looked at the dragon's nervously as she nodded and went to the back for a bit before returning with some paperwork and two scrolls.
"Alright then, Jake-san, I just need you to fill out these forms and sign your familiars names into these scrolls please."
I fill out the paperwork and sign my familiars names into the scrolls as Luna also brought out a needle as well.
"What's the needle for?" I asked.
"Well, in order to finalize the acceptance of your familiars, we need to stamp the scrolls with a thumbprint in your blood."
I pale a little as I eye the needle and gulp down the saliva build up before taking the needle in hand before pricking my thumb with it and stamping it beside the dragon's names.
With that out of the way, Luna-san takes the scrolls and lights it in flames as the fire quickly dissipates into the air as the smoke surrounds me and the dragons. A mark appears on both of Phenex and Legolas' chests as I see that my Adventurer's card is glowing in my pocket. I reach for it and look at the card and see that in the bottom right hand corner was both of their names under the title Familiar. Man these cards are handy to have.
Kazuma had a look of wonder in his eyes as he saw the process of the bonding of familiars to their master. Probably in awe at seeing something that a fantasy world would have.
With this matter settled, there was just one more place to go.
Sorry for the short chapter, but I wanted to get this out of the way. Please leave a review and give me some pointers as I'm still trying to figure out where to take this story. Suggestions are fine, but please no flames. Thank you and see you next time.
