"Jack," Kate moaned, her fingers digging into his sides as he slammed into her. She tilted her head back, stifling a moan. His office chair rocked back and forth, slamming Kate's back against his desk. She grabbed his face with both hands, pulling him into a heated kiss.
"Jesus," Jack panted shortly before grabbing her hips and holding her down as he spilled into her. His orgasm sparked hers and he felt her clenching around him, squeezing his every last drop out.
As Kate dressed, she noticed the photo on his desk. Jack, his girlfriend Madeleine, her young daughter Michaela and Aaron. The family photo was so perfect it looked like the stock photo that comes inside the frame.
"So did you really want to talk or did you just want that?" Kate smirked. A few weeks into Jack's new relationship she'd bumped into him at a bar. They'd reminisced over beers. Jack had remembered and fantasized about her in her tight skirts and straightened hair. Now he realized he'd forgotten what a tomboy she was deep inside. She sat in front of him, in jeans and a tank top, her brown curls in a messy bun, drinking a beer. He knew it was wrong. He knew he had a girlfriend waiting for him at him. He and Kate had been separated for some time but despite all the reasons not to, he wanted her.
That night, they'd slipped into the same stall, clawing and ripping into each other in a frenzied attack. After, Kate grabbed his hand. "It was just a one night stand or getting closure. I swear, I'm not going to—"
"I never entertained the idea of you telling her." His smile made Kate want him again. She'd been over him romantically but she was desperate for his touch.
That night, Jack knocked on the door long after Aaron was asleep. The minute Kate opened the door, she was in his arms and fiddling with his jeans.
They spent hours rediscovering each other's body.
"Jesus, Kate," Jack panted, a hand on his chest.
"That was—"
"I know," he interrupted. "I…" Jack sighed.
"It's just sex, Jack. I'm not going to say anything; you aren't going to say anything. She'll never know."
"We just… we just need to get it out of our system." Jack stammered.
After that night, they'd continued an affair for months, neither even considering ever ending it.
"I did want to talk." Jack said, redressing and trying to tidy the papers that had slid everywhere with every thrust.
"Is Aaron okay?" Kate immediately grew serious.
"He's fine, relax. It's just…" Jack glanced at the framed photo with a sigh. "… I've been getting a lot of pressure to—"
"You're proposing to Madeleine? Did you think I'd be mad? Think I'd be crushed?" She gave a wicked smile. "It's just sex. It doesn't mean anything. It doesn't bother me, we're ancient history."
"Thanks, Kate." He gave her a questioning glance as she grabbed a small stack of blank printer pages.
"So your receptionist thinks I actually had a reason to come here." With that, she walked out. Jack watched the sway of her hips. He considered that once he married Madeleine, it would make Kate his mistress. Instead of guilt he felt pride over her bearing that title.
Kate couldn't stop thinking about Jack proposing. She was fine with it. They'd never addressed their relationship or any idea of a reunion. Jack had ruined their trust and she'd immediately closed herself off to the idea.
It didn't take long for Kate to realize that she had no reason not to re-enter the dating world. After the breakup, she'd needed time. After that the panic of being known as Killer Kate or an Oceanic survivor turned her off from the idea. She didn't want to be interrogated and questioned by anyone and she knew it was impossible not to be curious. After a while, she just didn't give it any thought. Her life revolved around Aaron but now with Jack not only marrying, he was assuming the role of Michaela's dad.
For once, she suddenly realized how closed off she'd been, from anyone. She knew what she needed to do. She needed to open herself up to dating and falling in love again.
