Kellie and Jason entered, followed by Max and Johnny. Brick was waiting for them.
"Sorry, about the short notice," Brick said, "But I figured time was of the essence seeing as how the meeting with the families is tonight."
"It's better to know sooner rather than later," Jason said as they all sat around the table, "Especially since you said Kellie should be here for this."
"I checked with some of my sources as requested," Brick said, "and the recent events with the meeting at the docks and the incident with Cyrus's mother have created the perception that Jason's transition of head of the organization isn't as smooth as we would have expected."
"Not exactly a surprise," Jason said.
"While most people believe that Cyrus kidnapped his mother to frame you, he has been quite vocal about him being the one was set up," Brick said, "He's also made sure everyone knows Carly showed up to a meeting with him and his belief that Kellie is more involved in the business than she is. He's also spread some well-placed rumors about Kellie being at the docks as Jason's back up."
"That's not good," Jason said.
"No one's sure what to make of his claims," Brick said, "or are even sure if they came from him."
"The question is," Max said, "do the families think Kellie may be in charge in any way?"
"That's what I'm not sure of," Brick said.
"Nina Wu hinted that Kellie's involvement in the business might be welcome by some," Jason said.
"Not so welcome by others," Kellie said.
"It's possible they may expect her to show up at the meeting," Johnny said, "Depending on how much they believe it."
"The point of the meeting is to show the families I'm in charge," Jason said, "If I'm the only that shows up that should clear it up."
"Do we know how many of the families have indicated their coming?" Brick asked.
"No," Max said, "We haven't heard from two of the families yet, but that could mean anything at this point."
"I figured," Brick said, "But didn't think it hurt to ask."
"We have no idea what Jason will be walking into or what the right move is," Max said as Kellie's phone went off.
"it's Frances," Kellie said as she answered, "What's going on? Are you still at the hospital for Kelsey's check-up?"
"We're still here," Frances said, "But something seems off."
"Off how?" Kellie asked, "As in something's wrong with Kelsey or off with security."
"The second," Frances.
"I'm going to put to you on speaker," Kellie said, "Jason's here along with Johnny, Max, and Brick."
"We got here," Frances said, "And they told me Kelsey's regular pediatrician was unexpectedly out. But they had another doctor that would cover the appointment."
"Not completely out of the ordinary," Brick said, "It does happen."
"Except this was just a routine check-up," Frances said, "Doctor says she hears something wrong with Kelsey's heart and wants to run test immediately."
"What sort of tests?" Kelsey asked.
"Some sort of scans in addition to blood tests," Frances said, "The doctor wanted to take her right away. I went to go with them and the doctor said there's no reason. Being that Cyrus is running the hospital, I didn't like it."
"The doctor can't tell you can't come with Kelsey for the test," Kelsey said, "She's a minor child. If Jason or I or whoever we designate want to go with them for the tests, we can."
"The doctor was insistent," Frances said, "Said it could be a matter of life or death, but couldn't say why. I would think we'd need the tests to know more. I asked for another doctor, another opinion. The doctor balked, said he'd need to consult with someone, and left with the nurse."
"Is the doctor anyone you recognize?" Jason asked.
"No, neither is the nurse," Frances replied, "What you do want me to do?"
"Leave," Kellie said, "We'll have Monica check her out and assess if we should get in touch with here regular doctor or we'll take her to Mercy."
"Shit," Frances said, "The lights just went out."
"Just get you and Kelsey out of there," Jason said, "We're on our way. If you're able to get out let us know and we'll meet you at the Quartermaines."
Frances didn't answer and all they heard where punches and shoving in the background. Kelsey was crying. The phone went dead.
"Let's go," Kellie said as everyone at the table got up and started to head towards the door.
"I'm coming with you," Brick said, "It can't hurt to have the extra back up."
"It's appreciated," Kellie said, "Jason, "Call Uncle Lo and have him check on the boys and Alyssa. Make sure everything's okay at the schools."
"Should we alert the PCPD?" Max asked .
"I'll call Mac Scorpio," Kellie said, "At least give him the heads up, we think there's a situation. They might not be able to do anything, but they might know why the power's out too."
"What about Commissioner Ashford?" Brick asked.
Jason and Kellie looked at each other.
"She may be compromised," Jason said.
"Would explain TJ's recent abduction," Brick said.
"Are we ready to do this?" Johnny asked, "We'll meet at the Floating Rib across the street."
In the car, Kellie called Mac.
"Hello," Mac answered.
"Mac, It's Kellie," Kellie said, "Do you know anything about a power outage at GH?"
"No, why?" Mac asked.
"According to Frances they lost power while he was taking my daughter to a check-up," Kellie said, "Jason and I are on our way to GH now. I was on the phone with Frances when the power went out because a doctor that was subbing for Kelsey's regular pediatrician insisted she needed tests for a possible heart problem. Frances called concerned because the doctor was insistent on taking Kelsey for the test without him. After Frances said the power went out, all we heard was a fight and then the phone went dead."
"Have you heard back from Francis yet?" Mac asked.
"No," Kellie said, "Before the power went out, we'd told him to leave. Mac, I'm worried that someone was trying to kidnap my daughter."
"Well we don't exactly have enough to go in guns blazing and neither do you," Mac said.
"I know," Kellie said, "We are on our way to GH until we for sure that Frances and Kelsey were out."
"I'll call the hospital and asked about the power outage," Mac said, "I'll call you back. Just don't go in there all trigger happy all right, you and Morgan."
"I make no promises, Mac," Kellie said, "If it was your daughter or grandkids, you can't tell me you wouldn't do the same. Just please call me back with whatever you find out."
General Hospital
Meanwhile, Frances stood between Kelsey and the doctor, and the nurse who weren't really doctors or nurses at all.
"All you had to do was let us take her for testing," the doctor said, holding a syringe, "but you had to do this the hard way."
"It's what my bosses pay me for," Frances said, dodging the doctor.
The nurse lunged at Frances and grabbed him in a head lock, "I got him."
