Authors Note: Apologies for the delay in posting. With so many different pieces to weave together here, I wanted to write more chapters before posting. So a couple blasts from the past make an appearance because I found that Anna, Valentin, and the WSB, and cops are spread a little thin with all the chaos and trying to connect the dots between Port Charles, Nixon Falls, and Cyrus and Peter. It always bothered me on the show that no one ever ran Sonny's fingerprints to get an id on him in Nixon. I'm hoping to close some of those gaps and tie some of those pieces together.

Also, chapter 35 is also being posted. While there was a wait for the next chapter, we're getting two chapters this time. Have a great weekend and happy reading!

As they reached Nixon Falls, Anna got a call.

"Robert?" Anna answered, "I told you I'd call you with more information once we got to Nixon Falls. In fact, we're about to land."

"Anna, something went wrong," Robert said, "Heinrich refused to go quietly."

"Let me put you on speaker phone," Anna said.

"No, don't," Robert said, "As much as I don't care for Jason Morgan, what I have to say next should probably come from someone with a gentler touch to keep him from mucking things up."

"Tell me everyone's okay," Anna replied, edging away from Valentin and Jason and moving where they couldn't hear the conversation. Valentin and Jason looked at Anna concerned.

"Keep me posted. I want to know the moment we hear something regarding if Sonny's fingerprints were checked," Anna said to Robert "I'll want to meet with the chief of police as soon as possible."

"I'm on it," Robert said, "Go figure Sonny Corinthos is supposed to be dead and shows up where Heinrich went crawling."

"I'm sure we'll sort out the connection later," Anna said, "I'll be in touch."

"Why do I get the sense the news isn't exactly good," Valentin said when Anna came back, "Don't tell me Peter got away."

"We're not sure yet," Anna said, "Peter set a local bar on fire and didn't get out as far as we know. The fire departments trying to put out the flames and get inside. The bar's a total loss."

"I wouldn't put anything past him," Valentin said, "until we can find a body."

"According to witnesses, Kellie shot him at least twice, once in each leg," Anna said, "Going to be hard to get very far."

"Let's not make the mistake of underestimating him," Valentin said.

"Of course not," Anna said as Jason picked up on her discomfort.

"What else happened?" Jason said, "You said witnesses said Kellie shot Peter."

"Kellie was shot," Anna said, "Presumably by Peter. She wasn't responsive by the time Johnny got her outside. They've got her in surgery now."

"Where'd he shoot her?" Jason asked.

"Stomach wound," Anna replied, "She lost a lot of blood."

That doesn't make sense," Jason said, "Unless she wasn't wearing a bullet proof vest. I doubt she would have gone after him without it. Not when she was going to Nixon Falls to replace supplies that…"

"Had been tampered with," Anna said, "We know about that. My source says she was wearing her vest. But it didn't do its job."

"I'm going after Peter with you," Jason said.

"Like hell you are," Valentine said, "He just shot your wife. You really want to give him the opportunity to get off on a technicality because we let you come along. With any luck, your wife and Mr. O'Brien made sure he was left for dead. It'll save me the trouble of killing him myself."

"Valentine," Anna exclaimed.

"It's not like we haven't been over this," Valentin replied.

"For once I agree with Valentin," Jason said.

"Be still my heart," Valentin said sarcastically.

Nixon Falls Hospital

Sonny, Johnny, and Lenny were in the waiting room when the doctor came out.

"Mr. Corinthos," the doctor said, "Your daughter made it through surgery. There was a lot of bleeding and damage to her abdominal muscles. Her liver took some damage. We were able to repair that."

"Is she going to be okay?" Sonny asked.

"I'm cautiously optimistic," the doctor said, "However she did lose a lot of blood and wasn't responsive when she arrived here. That's in addition to inhaling smoke from the fire. As long she remains stable for the next 24 hours, it will be a good indicator of her recovery going forward."

"Is there something more we can do," Sonny asked.

"We've done all we can," the doctor said, "She just needs time to rest and recover."

"When can I see her?" Sonny asked.

"She's in recovery now," the doctor said, "We'll let you know when she's been moved to a room."

"That'll be a private room," Johnny said.

"We'll do what we can," the doctor said.

"Mrs. Morgan is getting a private room," Johnny said.

"And a police guard as well as restraints," the police chief said.

"Excuse me?" Sonny replied.

"This supposed fugitive she was chasing on behalf of random person who called me," the police chief said, "suffered at least two gunshot wounds before he shot her according to witnesses. He's likely dead. Last I checked shooting someone was a crime and she fired the first shots. She is definitely a person of interest until I know more of what happened and given her connections to the mob, I mean I can't just take her word for what happened."

"What are the charges?" Sonny asked.

"If we confirm he's dead," the police chief said, "We could be looking at manslaughter, maybe homicide."

"Could be," Johnny asked, "Until you actually have an arrest warrant, there will be no police guards or restraints."

"I'm sure it goes without saying, none of us will be speaking to any of your department without a lawyer present," Sonny snarled, "Stay the hell away from my daughter."

"That would make you Sonny Corinthos then," the police chief said.

"Johnny, I assume you can get in touch with an attorney to discuss the harassment changes against the police here," Sonny replied.

"On it," Johnny said, pulling his phone out, "As soon you leave, officer."

"There's still the matter arresting Sonny Corinthos for the death of Julian Jerome," the police chief said.

"Who? What?" Sonny replied.

"Hands behind your back," the police chief said.

"This is ridiculous," Sonny said, "I need stay here and make sure my daughter's okay."

"Don't say anything and do what they tell you. I'll call Diane Miller," Johnny said, "She'll get this straightened out."

"Your friend, here's right," Lenny said, "He obviously knows what he's doing. We'll keep you updated on Kellie and when she wakes up."

The police chief read Sonny his rights and escorted him out of the hospital.

The Tan-O

Inside, the Tan-O, Anna and Valentin followed the medical examiner and fire chief inside. The body while suffering burns was easily identifiable.

"That's definitely Peter August," Valentin said.

"We'll still check DNA and dental records," Anna said and the medical examiner checked the body.

"Two gunshot wounds to the leg and a third to the chest," the medical examiner said, "He lost a lot of blood and the wound to the chest is serious, but with the smoke, that could have killed him first. I won't know until I perform an autopsy."

"Of course," Anna said, pulling Valentin with her towards the door.

"Mission accomplished," Valentin said, once they were outside away from the emergency personal and other bystanders, "Peter August is no longer a threat to anyone."

"I just hope the cost isn't Kellie's life," Anna said, "I know we don't have a full picture yet, but the delay in police response. That Kellie went in without the police here."

"Thank god she did," Valentine said, "Otherwise Nina and her friend would be dead and Peter would be God knows where right now."

"About Nina," Anna replied, "You were right she was in trouble with Peter. But hasn't she been coming to Nixon Falls, the same town where Sonny Corinthos has been living with amnesia, for months."

"I know how this looks," Valentine said, "Maybe Peter was forcing her to keep Sonny being alive a secret."

"She was held by Peter at the bar where Sonny's been working," Anna said, "I wouldn't want to believe it either but…"

Anna's phone buzzed and she checked her messages.

"There was a hit on Sonny's prints requested by the absent police chief," Anna said, "Right after he went missing."

"That leaves the question of who the police chief is working for," Valentin said, "And explains the delay in responding to the back-up request. But how on earth did that hit not get picked up by another agency."

"A hacker cleared the hit from the system. The FBI is sending someone here to look into the police department's handling of Sonny Corinthos and the delay in providing back up," Anna said as her phone rang, "It's Kellie."

"You need to get over to the hospital," Johnny said when she answered, "I don't know what kind of police chief is running this town, but he strolled in here ready to arrest Kellie as soon as she's out of surgery. He's arrested Sonny as it is."

"Someone's busy covering his tracks," Anna muttered.

"What was that?" Johnny asked, "He wanted to put her in restraints which we all know will likely freak Kellie out when she wakes up."

"She's in recovery now," Johnny said, "It's wait and see for the next 24 hours. Now about getting down here."

"I'll get someone there as soon as I can," Anna said, "I suggest calling your attorney until I can get the police chief in for questioning. Stonewall and do whatever you can, you and Jason are good at that."

Anna hung up before Johnny could reply.

"What was that?" Valentin asked.

"Our missing police chief wasted no time trying to make a name for himself by arresting Sonny," Anna said, "and trying to arrest Kellie."

"Sonny is a person of interest in Julian Jerome's death," Valentin said, "Although he should have done that months ago."

"We need reinforcements," Anna said, "I need to be here, someone needs to find the police chief, and some needs to stand guard at the hospital and take statements. Anything the Nixon falls police get will be suspect."

"You did activate Kellie's status," Valentin said, "If we split up, we'll get more answers."

"You get the hospital," Anna said.

"Oh come on, I wanted the police chief," Valentin said.

"You just don't want to deal with Jason and Kellie, who do have reasons not to trust or like you," Anna said, "If the FBI gets a move on, they'll take the police chief anyway."

"Looks like I just missed the party," a familiar voice said.
