"Last I checked parties weren't really your thing, Agent McBain," Anna replied, "I take it the FBI sent you."
"To see about Sonny Corinthos and the fingerprint search that disappeared," John McBain said.
"You drew the short straw," Anna said.
"Happened to be close by already," McBain said, "Didn't get much choice about taking this case."
"Are we seriously not going discuss the fact that he looks like your ex-fiancee, Dr. Hamilton Finn?" Valentin asked.
"I have one of those faces," McBain said, "A doctor is a step up from a vampire or psychopath depending on which stories you believe."
"Very true," Anna said.
"Do not even mention the word vampire," Valentin said, "Let's not jinx Peter August's long overdue demise."
"I'm a little surprised the WSB would hire an agent that believes in vampires," McBain said.
"Valentin Cassadine," Valentin said, "Let's just say with my family's history of so called curses, I'd rather cover all our bases."
"Mmm," McBain replied, "My boss recommended I find you and get up to speed on the situation here beyond a police chief ran Sonny Corinthos fingerprints, the data trail was hacked and altered, and the chief didn't respond timely to your request to provide Kellie Corinthos with back up to arrest toasty over there. How does the daughter of Sonny Corinthos end up in the WSB?"
"Her brother worked for us too," Anna said, "Neither one are actively in the WSB now. But Kellie Corinthos was here in Nixon Falls on foundation business and not only found her father, but also saw Heinrich Faison or Peter August."
"Heinrich has evaded the law multiple times after kidnapping Maxie Jones, forcing her into early labor, and disappearing with their child," Valentine said, "There's also a litany of other crimes before that."
"Not my concern," McBain said, "At least as far as this case goes."
"I authorized Kellie to apprehend Peter on the WSB's behalf," Anna said, "Police response was delayed. From what we've read in the initial witness reports, Peter had two women tied up and was setting the place on fire when Kellie went to arrest him. Shots were fired. Kellie Corinthos just got out of surgery and is in recovery."
"What about Sonny Corinthos?" McBain said.
"Apparently he does not have any memory of who he is," Valentin said.
"That's convenient," McBain said.
"The police chief," Anna said, "Has already arrested Sonny for Julian Jerome's death. Which Valentine you need to go take statements at the hospital and take statement. Let us know if the chief shows up there again."
"But…" Valentin replied.
"Go," Anna said, "Maybe call some of your contacts and see what connections you can find between the drug dealers in Port Charles and here since that seems to be connecting thread with the cocaine put in the foundation donations for families in need."
Valentin looked at Anna said, "You're going to owe me for this one."
"I'm sure you'll survive," Anna said, as Valentin left, "Kellie and Jason might dislike you less for helping them."
"You're sure the police chief arrested Corinthos," McBain asked.
"Johnny O' Brien called me actually more upset about the chief trying to arrest Kellie," Anna said, "Which he had no case for."
"So he arrests Sonny instead," McBain said, "I'd say he botched that since Corinthos was only a person of interest in Julian Jerome's death pending further investigation. Corinthos will walk on a technicality even if we can get enough to charge him in Jerome's death."
The Hospital
Jason and Max approached the hospital doors as the police chief escorted Sonny out. Lenny followed behind him.
"Sonny," Jason said, stunned despite having been informed he was alive.
"Who are you?" Sonny asked.
"Right, I'm Jason, Kellie's husband," Jason replied, "She said you lost your memory."
"You can continue the reunion down at the station," the chief said.
"Kellie's in recovery," Sonny yelled, as the chief hauled him off, "Just make sure she's okay. Johnny said something about calling an attorney."
"We'll take care of it," Jason said, "Max, go with Sonny."
"Are you sure?" Max said.
Jason nodded.
"Probably a good idea to have someone that knows your line of work with him," Lenny said, "I'm Lenny Caufield. I own the bar Mike or Sonny has been working at."
"Phyllis's husband," Jason said, "Thank you for looking out for him."
"We'll take care of Sonny," Max said, "I'm sure Kellie's waiting for you before she'll wake up."
Jason looked at Max skeptically.
"Okay, not her style," Max said.
"Just go," Jason said.
Max nodded and he and Lenny left.
Jason continued into the hospital where Johnny and Jax met him.
"Jax?" Jason said, "How did you end up here?"
"Chasing a hunch about being Sonny being alive," Jax said, "Long story short, I wanted to be sure before. Obviously, you have your plans and means of travel, but if you or Sonny or Kellie need transportation home, my jet is here."
"I appreciate that," Jason said.
"Kellie will be moved to private room," Johnny said, "Jax was able to make that happen."
"Good," Jason said, "What did the doctors say?"
"She came through the surgery alright," Johnny said, "But want to monitor her the next 24 hours. As long she gets through that without issue, they expect her to recover."
"Where's Sonny?" Nina yelled, running into the room.
"Nina," Phyllis reprimanded coming in after her.
"On his way to the police station, not that it's any of your concern," Johnny snarked.
"Why is Nina Reeves here?" Jason asked.
"She's known for months that Sonny's been here," Johnny said, "Couldn't be bothered to tell anyone that or that Peter was here as well."
"That's none of your concern," Nina replied, "Is he okay, is Kellie okay?"
"It is my concern," Jason said, stepping towards Nina, "When Peter August shoots my wife if it's true you knew he was here and didn't tell any one and as for Sonny…"
Phyllis stepped between the two, "This isn't helping anyone right now."
"I'm not going anywhere unless it's the police station to help Mike, Sonny," Nina said.
"Nina, you should come with me," Phyllis said.
"I want to make them understand," Nina said.
"Nina," Valentin's voice cut through the room, "I'm going to have to take your statement for the WSB."
"Right now?" Nina replied as everyone looked to see Valentin.
"Yes," Valentin said, "I need a moment with Morgan and O'Brien here. Please, Nina, just wait over by the nurses station."
"Come on," Phyllis said, urging Nina to leave.
"We have nothing to say to you without our attorney," Jason said, "Since you're officially working for the WSB."
"I'd expect no less," Valentin said, "If the police chief shows up again let me know immediately. The FBI is sending someone to question the chief about this case."
"The FBI?" Jason asked.
"I'm not at liberty to discuss their interest in the case," Valentin said, "And yes while I'm sure Anna would tell you, I'm not Anna."
"Any word on request to find out if Sonny's prints were run?" Jason asked.
"They were and the matter's being investigated," Valentin said, "I can confirm that Peter August is dead in case you were wondering."
"Are you Jason Morgan?" a nurse asked, approaching them.
"He's all yours," Valentin said, leaving.
"Your wife is out of recovery and in her own room," the nurse said, "I can take you to see her."
Jason nodded and started to follow the nurse. Johnny tailed behind.
Jason's phone rang. Jason looked to see who it was and saw it was Carly. He also saw he'd missed several text messages.
Jason shook his head as Johnny looked at the phone.
"I need to call Carly, tell her about Sonny," Jason said.
"Jax," Johnny said before they left the room, "Call Carly see what she wants. We haven't told her anything yet, but looks like word is getting out."
"On it," Jax said.
Meanwhile, Valentin led Nina and Phyllis to a spare office.
"I'm not sure you should be taking Nina's statement, seeing as she's your ex-wife," Phyllis said.
"I'm not any happier about it than you are," Valentin said, "But I'm who we've got. I have my orders."
"The cops already took our statements," Phyllis said.
"And that may be problem," Valentin said, "If they ran Sonny's fingerprints…"
"There's no reason they shouldn't have gotten a hit," Phyllis said, "In that case, there's something you should know. Nina and Sonny found out about local business man's illegal dealings. He was arrested. That's all resolved, but his brother is the police chief. I have no idea if there's any connection. There wasn't at the time and Randall seemed just as surprised as anyone else."
"I appreciate the information," Valentin said, "I'll need a name."
"Elijah Crowe," Phyllis said.
"Elijah Crowe?" Valentin asked, "Are you sure?"
Phyllis and Nina nodded.
"Do you know him?" Phyllis asked.
"Of him," Valentin said, sending Anna a message, "I'll have my associate look into it for now."
"I still don't think you should be taking Nina's statements," Phyllis said.
"It's okay, Phyllis," Nina said, "I'd rather have Valentin take my statement than anyone else."
"If you're sure," Phyllis said.
Nina nodded.
"I'll be right outside the room," Phyllis said, "I assume you'll need my statement as well."
"Yes," Valentin said.
"While I do not approve of some of Nina's choices," Phyllis said, "If you hurt her anymore, you will answer to me."
"Noted," Valentin said as Phyllis left the room.
"Is there any chance I can convince you not to take my statement?" Nina asked.
Valentin shook his head, "I was right you were in trouble when you called about the search for Louise earlier."
"Peter was standing right there," Nina said, "and then he…well…if it wasn't for Sonny's daughter, I'm not sure…"
"Speaking of Sonny," Valentin said, "I'm picking up bits and pieces of information about how long he's been here. You've been coming to Nixon Falls for months. And Peter has been blackmailing you from what I can tell. The conclusion I'm coming to, Nina, isn't one I want to come to."
"Then don't take my statement," Nina said.
Valentin's face fell, "Do you have any idea how much trouble you're in, Nina? You not only kept the identify of Sonny Corinthos from him and from the police who would want to question him in Julian Jerome's death, but you also have helped Peter August evade the law, haven't you."
"I didn't help Peter," Nina said, "He threatened me with James, not that Sonny was alive."
"But he used that fact that you knew Sonny was alive to threaten you," Valentin said, "Did this just happened today or?"
"It's been going on awhile, Valentin," Nina said, "I never meant to hurt Sonny. In fact, I called Carly to tell her I'd found her. But before I could say a word she went on a sanctimonious rant about Wiley after keeping the truth about my daughter from me."
"So this was about revenge?" Valentin said.
"At first," Nina said, "But then I started to care about Mike and he showed no interest in finding out more about his old life"
"Mike? You mean Sonny?" Valentin said, groaning as the door opened, "Phyllis is right, I can't take your statement."
"I'm glad you came to that conclusion on your own, Cassadine," Frisco Jones said, entering the room followed by another agent, "We'll be taking her statement."
"Somehow, I think that might be more problematic," Valentin said, "Considering Peter August would be your son-in-law if the wedding had taken place."
"Thank god it didn't," Frisco said, "I'm simply here to observe Agent Lloyd here. Since Heinrich Faison has been terrorizing my daughter, I have a special interest in this case. Since I'm the running the WSB these days it's my call."
