"I'm glad you were able to get the time away to come visit," Charles said as he and Monica walked, holding hands, on the beach, "I know being the new chairman of the board at General Hospital and cleaning up after Cyrus has kept you pretty busy."

"It has," Monica said, "But we've got two co-chiefs of staff running things now. I'll have a lot more free time on my hands. Although I am hoping you'll be coming back to Port Charles soon."

"I know Kellie's working on that," Charles said, "She and kids having been anxious to go home as well."

"Has there been any progress making it safer for the kids to come back," Monica asked, "With Cyrus gone and Sonny back, I'd think that would help."

"Not as much anyone hoped," Charles said, "Not with the recent deaths of Sonny's associates. It's causing a power struggle and it turns out someone is targeting Sonny, Jason, and Kellie."

"For pete sake's, Kellie isn't in the business," Monica said, "I know Sonny and Jason made their choices as much as I hate them. But Kellie…"

"Also made hers," Charles said, "Unfortunately, she was never able to get out of the business in the way any of us hoped."

"If she hadn't married Jason," Monica asked, "Would she have been able to keep more distance?"

"I don't know," Charles said, "Olivia Jerome came after her in California in her war with Sonny. Garrett Esoterra would still have been hell bent on coming after her even if Tyler had lived. Of course, the whole marriage to one of the other families would have been off the table if moving back Port Charles still happened for them, but who knows what else they would have tried. At the end of the day, there will always be some of Sonny's associate that see her as a means to get to Sonny and Jason or as a threat to anything they'd have planned."

"I wish they could both just walk away," Monica said, "Does it ever bother you that she chose to be so close to the action?"

"I wish that Sonny's business hadn't been necessary for her to protect herself against the Esoterras," Charles said, "I can't imagine how she felt as teenager having Ethan come after her, chase her all over the country. I can't blame her for taking that opportunity when it came down to it. No one should have to live like that. That was a nightmare both him and his brother. We certainly can't change it, so I don't see the point in dwelling on that. And I'd prefer to discuss much happier things."

Charles gently swung Monica into his arms.

"Whatever did you have in mind?" Monica asked.

"Happier things like maybe our future together," Charles said.

"I certainly hope you plan on coming back to the mansion when you return to Port Charles," Monica said, "I miss not having you there."

"I definitely plan to come back to the mansion with you," Charles said, stepping back and reaching for his pocket, "I'm hoping for one slight change."

"What kind of change?" Monica said as her jaw dropped, seeing Charles get on one knee as he pulled a ring out of his pocket.

"I was hoping you might want to get married," Charles said, "I know that my track record with relationships has been sparse and I work too many hours sometimes. It baffles me that a smart, gorgeous, accomplished women like you would put up with that. I would consider myself the luckiest man alive, if you Monica Quartermaine would be my wife."

"Of course, I'd be happy to be your wife," Monica interrupted, "You certainly don't work anymore than I do. I personally was worried the Quartermaine chaos would scare you off. But you seem to just shrug it off like it's nothing. I would be honored to marry you, Charles."

Charles seemed momentarily stunned.

"Well are you going to put the ring on my finger or not?" Monica asked.

"Yes, of course," Charles said, moving to put the ring on Monica's fingers, "I was just so nervous and worried that you wouldn't say yes, but then you did."

"Charles, you have brought a joy to my life I didn't think would ever be possible again," Monica said, "Of course I was going to say yes."

On another part of the beach, Kellie and the kids were playing and surfing when they saw a plane fly low overhead and a body with a parachute fall out.

"Johnny, did you see that?" Kellie yelled.

"Yeah," Johnny said, coming towards her, "Francis, call the harbor patrol."

"On it," Francis yelled."

"Johnny, get the kids back to the house," Kellie said, "I'll take the board and paddle out."

"Doc doesn't sign you off until tomorrow and for all you know that could be trap," Johnny whispered, "Give me the board. Francis, see that Kellie and the kids get back to the house."

Johnny went to grab the board from Kellie. Frustrated, Kellie handed him the board.

"Let's go back to the house for lunch," Kellie turned and said to the kids.

"But mom," Jamie whined, "We have to see the rescue mission."

"No you don't," Kellie said, picking up Kelsey, "I'm not even staying." Johnny will see what he can do and Francis is calling for help. Now back to the house."

"But mom.." Jamie said.

"Now," Kellie said, "Let's go."

Charles and Monica were happy, celebrating, and continuing their walk down the beach when they saw the commotion of the patrol boat, having retrieved the parachuter, pull up to the shore.

"I should see if they need a doctor," Monica said, seeing Johnny and one of the other passenger, having cut off the parachute, move an unresponsive male figure off the boat on to the shore.

"Of course," Charles said as they hurried to catch up.

"What I can do to help?" Monica asked as Johnny blocked her.

"Hold on," Johnny said, "Before you rush in, there's something you should know."

"Right now this man needs to be looked over," Monica said, moving past Johnny, able to see the parachuter's face.

"Drew," Monica said, stunned.

"Ambulance is on the the way," Johnny said, "He's breathing and has a pulse."

"What happened?" Monica asked, moving to check on Drew.

"Someone dumped him out of a plane with a parachute," Johnny said.

"His eyes are dilated," Monica said as the paramedics came down the beach with a stretcher, "Possible concussions, maybe drugged. I don't know."

"Monica, let the paramedics get him to the hospital," Charles said.

"Right, I'm riding with my son," Monica said, moving out of the way.

"I'll meet you there," Charles said, "Johnny…"

"Kellie and I will call Sam and everyone else." Johnny said.

In the ambulance, Monica sat down as she heard Drew groan.

She saw Drew looking around confused.

"Drew, look at me," Monica said, "You're safe. Wherever you'd been. It's okay."

"Mom," Drew said, "What…where?"

"You're on Sonny's island," Monica said, "Or rather Kellie's island. Someone dumped you out of a plan with a parachute into the water. That's all I know."

"Sam and Scout," Drew replied.

"In Port Charles," Monica said, "Kellie will call them."

"What are you doing on Sonny's island?" Drew asked, "It's not your type of place, Mom. If Kellie's, what are you all having some kind of party?"

"Visiting my fiancée," Monica replied, showing Drew the ring.

"You're finally making an honest man out of Charles," Drew said, "Congratulations."

"Thank you. However for the current moment, I'm just glad you're home," Monica said, "Let's focus on getting you checked out and home to Sam and Scout."

Author's Note: On the actual show, Drew had been kidnapped by Peter August and held captive by Victor Cassadine. Since Peter was killed by Kellie earlier in the story and Jason obviously wouldn't die rescuing Drew, Britt, and Liesel from Peter in Greece, I'm working the resolution to Drew's disappearance and rescue here. More details coming in the next chapter.
