Kellie and Jason entered the hotel room, the kids were staying in. The kids were quietly entertaining themselves while a movie played.

"Mommy," Alyssa yelled, running to Kellie who caught her in a hug.

"Mommy," Alyssa said with tears, "Aunt Krissy said Grandpa Charles went to heaven with Dad."

"Yeah, he did baby girl," Kellie said, "I'm sorry."

"Did he get sick like daddy did?" Alyssa asked,

"Not exactly," Kellie said, "After you and Scout left the court yard, somebody tried to hurt all of us. Your Grandpa Charles got hurt really bad protecting your brothers and sister and I from being hurt."

"What about Jamie's arm?" Alyssa asked.

"Jamie still got a little hurt, but it'll heal like he's scrapped himself on his bike," Kellie said.

"See the paramedics cleaned it all up," Jamie said, standing next to Kellie with Jared, "It'll be good as new."

Kellie pulled the boys close to her as Kelsey toddled over to Jason and reached her arms up.

"Up, Daddy," Kelsey said as Jason picked her up.

Kellie looked at the boys and Alyssa, "I owe you apology. I should have been here for you last night to tell you about Grandpa Charles and I wasn't."

"You kind of had a lot to deal with," Jamie said, "With the cops and making sure the bad guys stopped hurting everyone right."

"Well, I still should have been here for you," Kellie said, "That is kind of my job as your mom."

"Did you have nightmares?" Jared asked, "You made them go away, right Uncle Jason."

"Yeah, I did," Jason said.

"Good," Jared said, "I'm glad Mom has someone to look out for her when she's trying to take of the rest of us."

"I don't want you worry about that," Kellie said, "I will be fine. We all will. And I know last night was scary and a lot of bad stuff happened. I know it's a lot to take in. So if you need to talk about it or have concerns or just need to cry about or whatever, I want you to tell me or Jason. That will help us take care of you going forward."

"Will there be funeral?" Alyssa asked.

"Or are we going to spread his ashes in the ocean like we did Dad's?" Jared asked.

"I don't know," Kellie said, "Grandpa Charles probably left paperwork that will tell us if he already planned those sort of things. I'll have to talk to the attorneys and Monica about that."

"We want to go to the funeral," Jamie said, "If he wanted one. I know we couldn't go to Dad's funeral because we were younger and stupid Garrett was threatening us."

"I think we're old enough now," Jared said, "Now it seems like it's always been dangerous. So we want to go."

"Oh, okay," Kellie said, "I can't promise anything. Jason and I have a lot to figure out right now. I'll see what I can do."

"I want to go home," Alyssa said, "I'm tired of the island."

Kellie looked at Jason at a loss for words.

"We'll work on it," Jason said.

Later That Day

Kellie hesitated before knocking on the door to Monica's room. She waited a few seconds then turned to leave.

Kellie froze when she heard the door the open.

"Kellie?" Monica said.

Kellie turned around, "I'll come back another time. I just thought I'd see how you were. But obviously given everything last night, that's a stupid thing to ask. I'm sorry for bothering you."

"I was actually just going to come look for you," Monica said, "See how you were doing."

"I think I'm the last person, I'd expect you to want to see right now," Kellie said.

Monica looked at Kellie confused.

"It's my fault that Charles died like that," Kellie said, "If hadn't have been for the danger I bring into our lives, he wouldn't have been in harm's way. None of you would have. You wouldn't have had to watch the man you just agreed to marry…"

"I'm going to stop you right there, Kellie," Monica said, ushering Kellie in, "Charles adored you as much as if you were his own daughter. There's not a doubt in my mind that he would have chosen to save your life every time even if it meant losing his. Lord knows I'd do the same for any of my children."

"It's still my fault that kind of danger was there in the first place," Kellie said, "I can't exactly pretend I don't have ties to my father's business."

"The danger that you're in isn't because of you, Kellie," Monica said, "It's because of your father and the line of business he chose to work in. That's on him, not you."

"Monica, it's not like I can claim total innocence," Kellie said, "As many things as I blame Sonny for, I can't blame him for my choices. Some of my choices are why I became a target."

"Obviously I don't know all the details of why Sonny allowed to you take over the business years ago," Monica said, "But I was around for enough of it to know, if Sonny had things in order, there never would have been a need for you to run the business. Did you ever consider that you might not have had to make those choices if Sonny hadn't of chosen a life of organized crime?

"Not really. I can't change it, so I don't see the point in dwelling on it," Kellie said, "Besides, organized crime found me when Sonny didn't even know I existed in the form of Ethan Esoterra. Some of those choices I can't blame on Sonny or Lorenzo for that matter."

"I think it's admirable that you want to take responsibility and certainly more than I can say for Sonny," Monica said, "But I don't want you to live blaming yourself for your father's sins so to speak. And Charles certainly wouldn't want you to take on that kind of guilt."

"I know that," Kellie said, "But it doesn't change that I feel it."

"No, that is true," Monica said, "I just hope you won't dwell on that for too long. Don't let Sonny's life and his enemies take anymore from you than they already have."

"I appreciate the kind words, Monica," Kellie said, "Especially, when I'm sure what happened to Charles brought up…..I shouldn't bring it up."

"My husband Alan's death," Monica said, "It does."

"I'm so sorry, Monica," Kellie said.

"It'll be a long time before I can wrap my mind around the similarities," Monica said,

"I really should leave. I really don't know why I came," Kellie said, starting to move, "The last thing I want to do is bring up painful memories."

"Charles didn't let many people close to him, did he?" Monica said, causing Kellie to freeze.

"No, he didn't," Kellie said, "He's always been well liked by a lot of people. But I don't know that many people really knew him."

"Is there anyone from Miami that needs to be informed from when he lived there?" Monica asked.

"Not that I know of," Kellie said, "He had no siblings. Maybe some cousins, but I wouldn't know where to start. He was from a high society family there. But he and Tyler were the last ones I know of. Back in Miami, I only knew him and Tyler for a couple years before I took off. I wasn't exactly welcome in certain circles."

"But Charles made you part of his family," Monica said, "And that was the important thing."

"Even before Tyler and I started dating," Kellie said, "I never understood it. I wasn't the only foster kid he helped…but…"

"You were different," Monica said.

"I never wanted to take for granted how much he did for me especially when he didn't have to," Kellie said, "I told him so many times he didn't have to do something."

"He did it anyway," Monica said, "You get that from him you know."

"What are you talking about?" Kellie asked.

"You obviously made a point to help foster kids with your foundation," Monica said, "Much like Charles used his law degree to help foster kids. When you and Jason got married, despite the circumstances, I watched how you tried to make everything okay for Danny and Jake. You not only helped Jason figure out how to have a better relationship with them, you make sure there are opportunities for them to do that. I know Danny especially wasn't easy, but you made sure he knew your home was open to him no matter what, much like Charles opened his home up to you."

"Danny and Jake are Jason's sons," Kellie said, "Of course, I want them to be part of Jason's life."

"But not everyone would have made the effort you did," Monica said, "You don't hesitate to include their siblings when they want to tag along. I still remember how much fun Oscar had when Cameron dragged Danny to the campfire in your backyard and invited Trina, Josslyn, and Oscar to come too."

"I'm glad Drew was able to figure out how to get him," Kellie said, "Although that night ended with my boys and Danny and Jake all fighting."

"Oscar seemed to think it was sign they'd all figure out how to get along," Monica said.

"He wasn't wrong," Kellie said, "While I didn't exactly expect a brawl to break out, I'd kind of anticipated if I let the kids get everything out in the open, maybe they'd figure it out."

"Just like Charles let you figure out all the things you needed to figure out," Monica said.

"Yeah," Kellie said quietly, "The sky could be burning and falling and he would know exactly what to say to make you think it was okay."

"Charles was nearly unflappable," Monica said, "When he moved into the mansion, I wasn't sure how he'd handle the Quartermaine arguing, but it didn't seem to faze him at all."

"Let me guess, he observed and mostly stayed out of it," Kellie said.

"Unless he had some insight to offer," Monica said, "which usually left everyone stunned long enough for him to walk away before they started arguing again. I suspect he may have only offered those insights if he was sure that would be the effect."

"It wouldn't surprise me," Kellie said, "I'm really glad Charles found you. I just wish well the ending would have been a lot different."

"You know after Alan died, I really didn't think I would ever find someone I'd want to share my life with like that again," Monica said, "It caught me off guard when I realized this lovely gentleman that I'd bonded with over our losses had come to mean a lot more to me than I would have thought possible. I would not trade that for anything, no matter how this turned out."

"I think I get that," Kellie said, "The life I had with Tyler was everything even when the leukemia took him. Knowing how that ended, I'd still choose our life again. Maybe with a lot less of me making a mess of our relationship early on."

Kellie and Monica were interrupted by a knock at the door.

Monica opened the door to find Jason standing there.

"Sorry to bother you, but I was wondering if you'd seen…." Jason started to say when he saw Kellie was in the room.

"Looking for someone?" Monica asked, leading Jason into the room.

"Sorry, I didn't think I'd be here this long," Kellie said.

"We were just having a lovely chat," Monica said.

"I'm glad," Jason said, "I'd ask how you are, but I'm sure you're tired of that question."

Monica nodded.

"Monica, thank you for well everything today," Kellie said, "I really should go check on the kids again now."

"Of course," Monica said, "Remember what I told you, Charles wouldn't want you to blame yourself. Anytime you want to talk about Charles, I'm here."

"Thank you," Kellie said.

"Is there anything I can do for you, Mom?" Jason asked.

"Hold on to each other," Monica said, "Don't let this and Sonny's business keep the two of you from each other. It seems to me that whatever's going on has kept your family apart long enough."
