Thoughts of a Hormonal Woman

As Abigail Gates gave her husband of one year the treasure map, her heart raced. What would Ben say when he found the pregnancy test she had hidden? Furthermore, what would he say when he saw it was positive? After all, she was supposed to be on birth control! They didn't want kids right now...the stress in their lives would be detrimental to any child, the Gateses felt.

Abigail continued to ponder as she walked into her greenhouse that she maintained purely because her therapist recommended that she have a stress-relieving activity. Her 'strong protector', as she referred to him in reference to their escapade in the Masonic church, had been standing next to her when the shrink told her that and, in typical Ben fashion, made sure that she followed the advice to the letter. Ben loved her; she knew from that experience and so many others. But would he be upset with her for carrying a new, gigantic responsibility, or would he be happy about the life she would be bringing into the chaotic world?

Abigail wouldn't have to wait very long to find out as Ben was already running up the stairs in their manor. The 'plunk, plunk, plunk' was unmistakable, even several yards away. Sighing, she sat down on a bench near the enterance of her garden and gazed at the roses she had planted just a week ago. They were so small, so helpless, and it was all she could do to keep them alive between her job at the Archives and spending time with Ben. How, she mused, could she manage a child if she couldn't even manage simple flowers? Flowers even came with directions! But, before Abigail could complete this thought, Ben came up and wrapped his arms around her midriff.

"Is it true, Abi? Are you really..."

She cut him off with a single, "Yes!"
