Concrete Angel

Serenity had traded places with Joey for a while, Joey went to their mom's and Serenity came to their dad's. Their dad had started the drinking habit again, and all he had to take it out on was Serenity.

She walks to school with the lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holdin' back

Serenity ran out the door with her quickly packed lunch as her hair flew behind her.

Wearin' the same dress she wore yesterday
She hides the bruises with linen and lace

She had only crudly but her dress on that morning, she had worn the same thing yesterday. 'Course she couldn't go to school, it was Summer Vacation. She didn't tell her dad that. She headed for the park.

The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask
It's hard to see the pain behind the mask

The teacher from the nearby school was walking around the park, she reconized Serenity from her kindergarten years. "Serenity?"

"Yes?" She asked.

"Nothing.. never mind.."

Bearing the burden of a secret storm
Sometimes she wishes she was never born

Serenity spotted Tristan walking, he sat beside her. "Serenity? You okay? What's going on?"

"My dad's been geting drunk again.."

They talked like this for a while.

Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel

Serenity stood outside her house talking to Tristan, her dad came out. "Serenity! What are you doing?"

"I-I..."

Without an answer, her father grabbed her and drug her inside.

Somebody cries in the middle of the night
The neighbors hear, but they turn out the lights

Tristan heard screams and metal from inside the house. Wasn't anyone going to help? He looked around, the house light's from other's were being turned out, he got out his cell phone.. 9-1-1..

A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate
When morning comes it'll be too late

But judging by the screams that were no more, it was too late.

Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel

Tristan got the word out of Serenity's death, her brother and mother came quickly. They all gathered around her grave.

A statue stands in a shaded place
An angel girl with an upturned face

A little statue of an angel was placed near it, by who? Tristan Taylor.

A name is written on a polished rock

Leaves covered half of it, but this is what was readable:

Serenity Wheeler

1993 - April 22, 2006

A life that will always be remembered..

A broken heart that the world forgot

Joey bent his knee beside his sister's grave, tears rolled down his eyes like a summer storm.

Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel

But of course, what are they crying about? They'll see her again someday, someday in a better place.
