Anakin was lying across a loveseat off to one side of Padmé's and his bedroom watching a podrace on the holoscreen. Padmé was lying across him, her head rested on his chest as she picked at his tunic. Not interested in the race, she had lost herself in thoughts of their new baby.
"We are going to need to get a bigger place." Padmé said out loud.
"Hmmmm." Anakin mumbled too engrossed in the race to pay attention to what Padmé was saying at the moment. However, he would absently run his hands down the side of her body and try to slide them around to her front to feel the growing Force presence within, but their current position made this rather awkward and difficult.
Silence fell between the two lovers for a few moments while the podrace continued. It wasn't until the end of the second lap that Padmé spoke again, "What do you think we should name your son?"
This question caught Anakin's attention and he turned his gaze from the television and stared down at Padmé. "My son?" He asked skeptically. "Who says it isn't your daughter?"
Padmé just smiled at her husband, "Well I do not know, but my motherly intuition says it is going to be a boy."
"I think it is going to be a girl, do you want to bet on it?"
"Not with your Jedi abilities." Padmé stated sarcastically.
"Well, I could use the Force to find out, but I kind of like it being a surprise. How about you?" Anakin asked as he ran his fingers through Padmé's curls.
"Yes, I want it to be a surprise too." Padmé smiled and then fell silent as she considered the other things her husband had said. "So if I did decide to bet on my guess, what would be the prize for the winner?" Padmé asked teasingly running her fingers absently up her husband's clothed chest.
"Hmmm." Anakin considered this for a moment. "How about the loser has to give the winner the deepest, most passionate kiss imaginable."
Padmé raised herself up so she was staring into Anakin's eyes. A look of incredulity covered her face as she retorted, "I'll accept that offer, but we kiss that way almost all the time."
Anakin chuckled in response, "Yes, my angel, we do. However after child birth, I think you'll be too tired for anything else." Anakin finished by raising his eyebrows suggestively.
Padmé hit Anakin in mock indignation before saying, "Anakin Skywalker, is that all you ever think about?"
"With you my angel, always." Anakin said as he placed a light and tender kiss on her lips before turning his attention back to the holoscreen and the podrace. It was well into the third and final lap and two racers had just crashed into each other in a large fireball.
Padmé smiled as she settled herself back across her husband's chest. She loved him dearly, even when he was teasing her. She was pleased that they were expanding their family because their child would have a bright future in the new Republic. Padmé began contemplating what their child would grow up to be, a Jedi like their father, a politician like her, or something completely different. In this free galaxy anything was possible and she would support her child, the symbol of her love for Anakin, in any and everything they chose to do.
Padmé smiled and sighed contentedly against Anakin's chest as her thoughts went back to a name for the child. As a result, she raised her previous question, once more. "What should we name our child?"
The podrace was finishing and it was no longer exciting anymore since only one racer had not crashed their pod. Uninterested with the imminent outcome, Anakin turned off the holoscreen and focused his attention back on his wife. He smiled down at her before sarcastically retorting, "How come every time I'm watching a podrace you have to question me about names?"
Padmé laughed lightly of the memory of the last time she had watched a podrace with her husband. He had not been her husband then, but a Sith Lord and her captor. At the time he had only gone by the name of Darth Vader, but she had been pestering him to reveal his true name. Distracted by the podrace, he had almost revealed his identity as Anakin Skywalker, but caught himself before the information was revealed. However, it was not long after that event when he finally gave her the name she had nagged him to reveal, and the two enemies fell in love with one another. There was a light hint of mirth in her voice when she replied, "Good things ultimately happen when names are discussed, my love." Padmé emphasized the last two words as she twined her fingers through Anakin's hair.
Anakin lifted Padmé up so that he was now sitting up and she was in his lap. He brushed his calloused fingers over her soft face as he said, "Yes, it helped me see the light and it gave me your love," Padmé's eyes closed as Anakin leaned his head in to meld his lips with hers in a slow and sensuous kiss.
When their kiss ended, Padmé breathlessly asked, "So, Daddy, what do you want to name your son?"
Anakin quirked an eyebrow at her when he teasingly said, "I do believe I said it was going to be a daughter, Mommy." Anakin was sure to emphasize the last word.
"Fine, we will pick a name out for both and that way we are prepared for whoever is correct."
"Very well, since you are so determined that it is a boy, what shall our son's name be?"
Padmé was silent for a few minutes before answering, "Luke. I always liked that name."
"Then that is what we shall call him," Anakin stated as he hugged Padmé close to him.
"What if it is a girl?" Padmé asked.
Another moment of silence passed before Anakin answered, "Leia."
"That is beautiful, where did you come up with that?" Padmé asked as she looked up into Anakin's eyes.
"I don't know, I just thought of it." Anakin said truthfully.
"I love it. Leia." Padmé repeated.
"Or Luke." Anakin said with a smile. "We will just have to wait to find out."
