Chapter 7- Show Them What You Can Do

"Light and darkness co-exist. Two sides of the same coin. You can't just get rid of one side."

"What if we could, though?"

Vanitas was sick and tired of light screwing him up. When was a normal-ish life with the opportunity to gain needed strength again going to be on the cards? Soon, since light gave him one more blasted chance.

Sora broke so many laws of nature to bring his friends back together. As such, he was shoved into a different world with no way to get back home. Friends out of reach, but new ones in grasping reach. And by Kingdom Hearts he was going to help out a familiar face.

UA seemed like the perfect cover for them, solving all their problems. Until it didn't.

After all, light hates darkness, and darkness hates light. Destiny was inevitable.

Vanitas walked in the empty city, grinning. Unversed trailed behind him. He managed to shrug off the police, and so now he was going to treat himself. Some fun.

"Stay in this room. It has monitors showing each battle in ten different areas. Their goal is to either capture the hero with handcuffs or get to the exit within thirty minutes. Of course, the heroes have handicaps to give the students an easier time," Aizawa explained to a starry-eyed Sora. "You should look at each pair's performance and consider how they would improve in the future. Afterwards, I will test you personally, so be prepared."

"Wait what?" Sora snapped out of his daze.

"See you in thirty minutes." Aizawa left Sora, who just gaped.

"That was out of the blue…" Sora muttered.

He summoned his keyblade, Kingdom Key, and examined it. He tried to summon some of his other keyblades like Oathkeeper or Oblivion, but they did not come. Sora sighed and swung his keyblade a few times.

Yep, definitely had went back to square one again.

Aizawa's test would hopefully help Sora determine how strong he was, but for some reason he was nervous. He had fought many, many times before, so why now? Was it because Aizawa was the first person in this world to properly help him out? And if he 'failed', he would be back on the streets again with no food? Sora would be fine. He's always made things work. No need to be nervous. He will pass with flying colours!

There was another matter which was currently on Sora's mind. Every instinct in him was yelling for him not to summon the keyblade in front of people. It never was a problem really before to summon the keyblade and help people, so why now? Why did this world make him feel slightly on edge all the time? Maybe he should just stick to following the World Order.

Well, whatever it is, I should just follow my heart. I'll cast spells or something. It'll be fine.

He was interrupted by the exams starting. He was instantly mesmerized by each student, and each power demonstrated. Midoriya called it a 'quirk' and most people had one in this world. Even so, Sora was impressed. Each exam had two camera screens; one to focus on the teacher and their actions, and the other on the pair of students. He located Aizawa pretty quickly, who seemed to be fighting against someone with ice and someone with a ponytail and showing a lot of skin. The latter seemed to be nervous, and disappointed, but she still followed the ice boy's orders faithfully. She also seemed to be creating dolls out of her body.

They were talking, but then the girl was not creating the dolls anymore. Sora frowned, before seeing Aizawa launching a sneak attack from above. The ice boy tried to presumably shoot ice at Aizawa, but nothing came. He then was dodging Aizawa's attacks, while yelling to the ponytail girl. The girl hesitated before running away. The boy got caught in Aizawa's scarf and threw caltops underneath.

Sora looked at the other examinees. There was a boy who seemed to have engine legs running away with another boy with a tail on his back. On another screen, there was Present Mic was causing soundwaves and the two students were hunkering behind a log covering their ears. Indoors, there was a teacher with a gun shooting against a grey wall, with a student with what looked to be like wings and wore a mask hiding behind it. Beside him, there were two gloves and two shoes on the floor.

Sora grinned. It was amazing to see such heroics and talent from people around his age. It reminded him of his own best friends back home. Of all the keyblade wielders whom he had worked with to bring balance back into the worlds, to stop the darkness, and to make sure Kingdom Hearts' power was not used. It was reassuring to think that others could take up his role of saving others once he could no longer cheat death.

One of the screens caught his attention. Midoriya was one of the examinees in view, with a spiky blonde who looked pretty scary. The two seemed to be doing a good job in holding off a beast of a man whose power was awe inspiring to watch. Sora was extremely proud of his friend. But something else caught Sora's eye and made him take his attention away.

In the corner, just for a second, Sora thought he saw a familiar helmet, and a familiar creature. He gasped, before checking around him. He then clicked on the box and thankfully (surprisingly too) had the information on where the camera was. Sora charged out of the room and towards the arena Midoriya was in.

Aizawa was yawning by the time he reached the surveillance room. The exams were now over, and nearly every student passed. But Aizawa, being a form teacher, had to review each student's performance and give feedback within a few days. Joy for him. Aizawa also had to check up on Sora too and make sure he had not gotten into trouble. Aizawa planned to drag Sora back into the Teacher's Lounge for a bit before bringing him to the principal. Sora had warmed up to the staff quickly, and it meant it got Sora off Aizawa's hands.

He knocked on the door to not alarm Sora before entering. Sora turned around in his chair and smiled. Aizawa could not help but notice a few minor scrapes were dotted on Sora's arms now, and a bruise seemed to be colouring on his cheek.

"Hey, Aizawa! You were awesome!"

"Yeah. What happened to you?"

"What do you mean?" Sora tilted his head to the side.

"The scrapes on your arm. Your cheek. You look like you've been in a fight."

"Oh, that. Um, well, I, uh… sorta fell and bumped my cheek?" Sora placed his hands behind his head.

"Seriously kid? Fine. Go to Recovery Girl, there's signs pointing the way there. Get patched up and meet me in the Teacher's Lounge. We'll discuss the students' performance there." Aizawa handed Sora a pink slip.

"Thanks!" Sora jogged away.

Aizawa sighed. He's going to be a problem child, isn't he?

He sat in Sora's old seat and typed on the computer. He got the footage from earlier that day and began to watch it. Out of the corner of his eye though, there was a strange bottle in the previously empty bin. Aizawa paused the footage and wandered over to the bin. He crouched low and scooped the bottle up. The bottle was strange, giving the same vibe as Sora himself. There were only a few drops of liquid left within the bottle, but it glowed luminous green. The packaging was a dark blue, and proudly showed off bright green stars. It had the word 'Potion' in fun bubbled writing.

Aizawa frowned as he looked back to where Sora had left. First, the strange clothes, then the scrapes, and now the bottle. Something was up with Sora in more ways than one. And Aizawa was now curious.

Sora knocked gently on the infirmary door. He fidgeted with his hands as he waited for someone to let him in. He was nervous, for he had no idea how this 'Recovery Girl' could heal him. Normally he did all the healing himself, or his friends helped him out. Sora had already drunk from a potion already and most of the wounds were healed, so hopefully it was not going to be too bad. He heard shuffling and a curtain being pulled before a short and elderly lady opened the door.

"Hello dearie. Is everything alright?"

"I'm Sora, Aizawa sent me here." Is she Recovery girl? I was kinda expecting someone younger…

"Ah, come in, come in! Let me just sign this pink slip while you sit down over there."

Sora walked in and gasped worriedly. The spiky haired student lay beside Midoriya, both injured. Instead of sitting down, Sora went over to Midoriya's bed.

"Did Midoriya get hurt during his exam?"

"Oh, so you know him. Yes, All Might did quite a number on both of them. He should have gone way easier on them. But they both should make a full recovery. All they need to do is rest. Now, about you. Come over."

Sora complied this time. "It's nothing much."

"Oh dear. A few scrapes and a nasty bruise. How did you get them?" The woman gently examined Sora's arm.

"I, um, kinda fell?"

The woman frowned. "Well, I'm going to do a full check over, just in case. Is that ok?"

Sora took in a deep breath. "Could you, um, avoid doing my back and chest?"

"Dearie, I'm afraid I need to. Don't worry, I'm not going to judge or anything." Recovery Girl smiled sweetly at Sora.

"Well, could we, um, get it done first then?" Sora pleaded.

"Of course. Could you take off your top?"

Sora did so, revealing knotted skin and a mass of scar tissue. Covered across his back and torso was numerous claw marks, some more faded than others. The back of his neck was burned badly, leaving an ugly red mark in the shape of something similar to a laser. There were also a few smaller burn marks scattered around his back. His chest had a blade scar which entered from his front and continued to his back.

Recovery Girl took one glance before looking up to Sora. "If it's too personal, it's ok, but how did you get so many scars? The healing done on these is bad."

Sora paused. His mind flashed back to the day he litter picked with Midoriya. Midoriya unknowingly taught Sora a lot about this world, including regular 'Villain attacks', similar to when Sora fought heartless or the Organization.

"Villain attack." Sora put simply. It was a half-truth.

"Could you take off your gloves too? I'll do a few tests then you can put your top back on."

"Ok."

"Sora!? What are you doing here? And what happened to you!?" Midoriya screamed from his bed.

"Um…" Sora scratched his cheek.

Vanitas hissed slightly in pain. His hands were hiding the nasty wound that had happened from the fight, and black liquid oozed out of it. But Vanitas was fine. He had dealt with pain before. All he had to do was regroup. What Vanitas was mad about was the fact Sora was only barely able to hurt Vanitas. Even Vanitas could tell that Sora was weakened yet again, and the fact that Vanitas struggled against Sora? Meant he was so, utterly, weak.

Vanitas looked up from behind his helmet to see a new face approaching him. Which was strange, since most who willingly came to Vanitas was hearts filled with that blasted light or aligned with darkness. And Vanitas could not feel any light coming off the stranger. Vanitas poured his emotions out, and, in his shadow, a flood was hidden, waiting for orders.

"Ah. Looks like you are in a spot of trouble. Your stamina is down to one point. How sad." The stranger addressed Vanitas. Vanitas could not tell what they looked like, for they were wearing a hoodie with its black hood up. Nothing new for Vanitas anyway.

"What do you want?" Vanitas growled.

"Same thing as you. Chaos. For this society to be wrecked. And my boss saw potential in you."

"Hmph. And here I thought I was being sneaky. I'm good though. Like being solo."

"Oh, yes. I bet you would be great by yourself. You have potential in bucketloads. Your quirk is awesome, and you've stayed out of the spotlight while doing all your devilish crimes. But you are only at level one. Weak."

The last word got to Vanitas. He snarled. "Get him."

The flood pounced at the stranger, but the stranger dodged easily. He cackled in joy while jumping all over the place. Vanitas began to summon a corridor to get away when he was halted by the stranger's words.

"You know, you are one of the only guys I really want to know better. You want pure, utter destruction and I admire that. Why don't I help you out? At least, give you shelter for a day."

"No thanks. I'm just fine." Vanitas turned around and left through the corridor.

At least, he thought it was his corridor until he arrived at a cosy bar. He stood, surveying the place before spinning around to the stranger, who followed him in. The dark liquid pooled onto the sticky red floor.

"I'm going to hit continue, whether you like it or not."

Xerayn's notes 7:

I realised that the pace of this is quite slow, but hopefully it will start to get a lot more interesting from here on out. Sora and Vanitas seemed to meet up, I wonder what happened between the two? Maybe you'll find out in the next chapter. We'll see.
