Harrison's POV
Turning his attention to Riddle he declared, "Tom Riddle I challenge you for the title of King."
Surprised breaths were sucked in. It was obvious that no one thought he would actually challenge one of the court. Much less the King of Slytherin himself.
Snape growled, "Do you accept the challenge, Riddle?"
The older boy looked at Harrison there was something dark in them. Then he said, "I accept the challenge Professor. We fight as we are nothing more. Do you accept my conditions, Potter?"
Harrison grinned as he said, "I accept your conditions, Riddle."
XIII already pulled his wand out and began to place wards. He knew how... explosive Harrison's magic could be. Underneath his skin his magic was like fire. It burned with the need to be released.
After a moment his sworn blood brother held out his hand, "Give me your CAD. We don't need you blasting a whole through the wards with that new spell of yours. Even without a mastery I can tell the wards around the castle couldn't hold against such a spell."
Faking false hurt he asked, "You think I would use that here?"
XIII and the rest of Nightingale students who had made it into Slyrherin gave him a look. One he very much deserved. They had all seen the aftermath of him practicing the spell trying to find the correct phrasing and runic engravings. No one wanted to see it used here.
At least not where the use of it could bury them alive. They were perfectly okay with him practicing it anywhere else. Harrison was a lot of things but he was not that irresponsible. He would not dare use an untested and unperfected spell against another human being.
Harrison said as he pulled off his Slytherin robes and tossed them to XIII, "I'll keep it to low level spells if I use it. I won't use that spell I promise."
Besides if worst came to worst he could always use Fool's World. That spell had been tested and proven to be useful. The card was in his breast pocket.
Harrison was wearing a short sleeved dress shirt. On the left side was the breast pocket that held the Fool's World card. On the right side was the bar marking him as Technomage. It was silver in color marking him as having his mastery. If one wasn't familiar with the bars they wouldn't realize that it was the mastery bars. Then on his shoulder was the Crest of the Black Hawks and the mark of Rank 5. His other masteries weren't shown as he they weren't as important in battle. Only the apprentice wardstone that hung from his belt was recognized.
Snape at that moment finished transfiguring a chair into a dueling table. With a glare he indicated for both boys to get ready to duel. Harrison jumped up onto the table. He could feel the eyes of the students ogling him.
A few looked at what appeared to be a wristband on his right arm. It was in fact his goblin steel CAD. CADs were a new piece of Technomagic. Currently only military mages, battle mages, those within the technomage career carried them. Most people wouldn't be able to recognize it.
CADs allows the processing of all the necessary components for magic in a single moment. In detail, these devices help accelerate the invocation of magic, as well as provide stability. The exceptions were those who were unused to them.
Although CADs show the superiority of modern magic, as it is a precise piece of machinery it requires regular maintenance involving the tuning of the machine to suit the traits of the user's magic. This was where the technomage engineers came into play. Harrison could both use and calibrate CADs. A rare commodity.
Riddle soon followed Harrison up onto the table. He did not remove his Slytherin robe something he would soon regret. It would hinder his movements and Harrison was not above taking advantage of it. Both boys drew their wands as Snape stepped forward.
Snape said glaring at the two, "We go until one of you is knocked off the platform or are unconscious. No Unforgivables or lasting damage. Anything else goes."
Riddle said with a cold smile, "There is still time to recind your challenge, Potter. You are two years my junior I'd rather not see you hurt because you bit off more than you could choose."
"I wouldn't underestimate your opponent if I were you," replied Harrison, "Riddle you have no idea what I or any of my friends were taught. I suggest you prepare yourself for battle."
There was a twist of his lips. Both boys bowed then took three steps back. Three. Two. One. Spells began to fly a moment later.
Harrison kept to Battle Mage Rank 2 & 3 rather than using military magics. Ice spell froze the older boy to the spot. There was a flash of anger in Riddle's eyes.
Stunning spells were sent at him followed swiftly by the a cutting spell. Harrison deflected them easily and shot off several of his own. Riddle used an Incendio to free his legs and it was followed by Locomotor Mortis. Harrison toppled over before he could use a finite. It took precious seconds for him to get his legs free. In that time he barely was able to keep Riddle off of him.
Underneath Harrison's skin the fire was back and ready to be free. Around them the air became heated, more so than just what the spells created. XIII was sending him worried looks but didn't move to interfere.
Spells without words were sent between the two. Many hit the erected shield causing students to flinch away. Some students flinched as if they expected the wards to fall.
Harrison could tell the other was getting frustrated. The feeling was mutual. It was time to take it up a notch. He raised his right arm as he lowered his wand on his left. Focusing his magic that was lashed out trying to break free.
In front of his palm was a magical circle he called out, "Thunder sprites pay heed, and strike with your, electric shock!"
Lightning shot from the circle hitting Riddle square in the chest. It flung him back nearly off of the table. A grin crossed his face as the boy began to fight in extreme earnest. It seemed that he had struck a nerve.
Magic rose in response to their emotions. Harrison lost his tight control over his magic. The fire that had been tightly wound within him exploded out. When Riddle's magic was thrown up against his there was a resounding explosion. Both he and Riddle were throw against the far walls unconscious.
