Author's Note: I've been thinking of doing a High Guardian Spice story but I don't want to do it if no one is going to read it. So, I'm letting you guys decide if I should or shouldn't write the story. I already have an idea of what I want to do with it.
Jack Rabbit stared at the street below, watching people enjoying their night. He always does it to pass the time when nothing interesting is happening. He considers it therapeutic and peaceful not to have to worry about someone trying to kill him. Except, he has another reason to people-watch tonight.
When he first started his vigilante career he saved a woman from being raped or worse. At the moment he thought he did great until the woman he saved said that they had no way to prove that her attacker did anything and that they'll be out of police custody in a week. And just like she predicted, the attacker was out in a week. Since he started working with Echo, he asked her to look at the police report and learn more about the attacker.
Their name is Hanabi Utsushimi and her quirk allows her to disguise herself as anyone, but they can't copy their quirk. There couldn't find much else about her except that she has a younger sister in the Hero Course at Shiketsu.
"Don't you see the irony in all of this?" Echo laughed in the earpiece.
Hanabi wasn't the only person they researched. Jack Rabbit also wanted Echo to look up information on the victim. It took a lot longer to figure out who she was, but after looking up Hanabi's high school and going through the alumni list they easily figured out who she was.
Her name is Yuina Ikari and her quirk allows her to soothe animals. They went through her social media accounts to learn she works at an animal conservation. Jack Rabbit noticed that she hasn't been posting much since the attack. The pictures that she has been posting only showed animals that were brought into the conservation.
"Consider it a necessary evil," Jack Rabbit told her. He knows that what they were doing was technically stalking, but considering Hanabi's quirk, they decided it would be best to learn about the victim as well.
They went through Yuina's followers to see if they could learn anything else. He pointed out one account that posted many pictures of Yuina with a group of girls. They scrolled through the account and found out it belonged to Emiko Sachiko, a woman with long blue hair and a mole on her left cheek. She posted something about a "Girls Night" and Mei quickly located which bar they were going to.
"I know, but we're trying to stop a stalker by not only stalking them but also their victim and her friends. I just find it funny."
"Can we talk about something else? Did you get your acceptance letter?" Jack Rabbit asked to change the topic. He already got his acceptance letter from Musutafu High and he got in with flying colors. His friends didn't get their letters yet but they plan to show each other when they come.
"Yes, and I got in! Like there was any doubt!" Echo cheered. "And now that I'm in UA I'll have access to some great tools and materials. I'll be able to upgrade your tools and you might get a new costume."
Jack Rabbit liked that idea. He didn't hate his costume but after a couple of months, he knew it was time for a change. Sometimes his pants would get uncomfortable after a few hours and his costume wasn't always the best thing to wear during the winter or when it gets really hot.
"Did you come up with any designs?" Jack Rabbit asked. He hoped that Echo would let him look at his next costume design so he could veto anything that he considers pointless or embarrassing.
"Just one so far and it may or may not contain a cotton tail…" Echo said teasingly.
"It better not," Jack Rabbit said sternly and received a small giggle.
"No promises," she sang. Jack Rabbit sighed, knowing full well that when Echo decided on something no one would be able to talk her out of it.
A few minutes passed and Jack Rabbit heard Echo typing. She sent Sora to see if the drone could find either Yuina or if they were lucky, Hanabi. He heard Echo loudly typing while hearing a lot of mouse clicks. After a while, the noises stopped and were replaced by Echo's humming.
"Interesting…"
"What is it!?"
"Sora found Yuina. She's partying with her friends but something seems off…" Echo told him.
"What do you mean?"
"I'm currently looking at Emiko's social media and comparing some of her pictures with the live feed and they don't match up. In the live feed, her mole is on her right cheek while in the pictures it's on her left cheek," Echo revealed and Jack Rabbit looked at the bar across the street.
"Do you think the pictures could've been mirrored?" Jack Rabbit suggested.
"Maybe, but we should keep an eye on her."
A half-hour passed before Jack Rabbit saw a group of girls leaving the bar. He managed to spot Yuina and Emiko among the group. A few more minutes passed before the girls split apart. Jack Rabbit saw Yuina and Emiko go in one direction and he followed them.
He ran along the rooftops, keeping an eye on the two girls. Sora flew above the two, recording their every move. Echo informed him that they moved into an alleyway. Sora flew back to him and he strapped himself onto the drone. Sora then flew him over to get a better view of the two.
When he landed on the rooftop he peered down into the alleyway to see Emiko pinning Yuina to a wall. Echo flew Sora into the alleyway to get a better view of what was happening. Jack Rabbit couldn't jump into action until they had enough evidence of the crime. As he watched, Echo was relaying to him what was happening.
So far, they were only kissing, well, more like Emiko was sucking on Yuina's face. Then Emiko grasped at one of Yuina's breasts before she ripped her dress to get easier access to them. She then moved her hand into Yuina's panties and when he heard that he sprung into action.
Jack Rabbit shot his grappling hook onto a fire escape and quickly descended to the ground. He ran straight at Emiko and threw her off of Yuina. He checked on Yuina to find her holding herself while crying. He wanted to comfort her but she flinched when he tried to get close to her.
Instead, he turned his attention to "Emiko" and just as he expected, was replaced by Hanabi. She was furious and Jack Rabbit could tell she was seeing red.
"You!" Hanabi said with venom in her voice. "Why do you keep preventing our love!?"
"Because it's not love!"
"What do you know about love!?" She questioned before drawing out a knife. He didn't answer her but he did pull out his staff and got into a fighting pose.
She screamed and charged at him with the intent to kill. She tried slicing at his neck but with the help of Split Second, he easily dodged her attack. It also helped that she was sporadically swinging at him making it easy for him to telegraph her attacks.
Jack Rabbit then jabbed his staff into her stomach, knocking the wind out of her. He then grabbed her arm and flipped her onto the ground. Not wanting to give her the chance to regain her composure, Jack Rabbit trapped her in foam. He watched her struggle and the words leaving her mouth made him wish he still carried duct tape.
With the threat taken care of, Jack Rabbit turned back to Yuina who was still shaken up. She was trying her best to cover herself and wanting to make her comfortable, Jack Rabbit kept his attention on her face.
"It's over," he told her. She had the opposite reaction than he thought she would have. She became frustrated and he thought she would slap him.
"No, it's not! It will never be over! Not as long as she's still out here!" Yuina screamed. Tears poured from her eyes. "I thought I would be safe with friends but I guess I was wrong. I will never be safe anywhere."
"I wouldn't say that. You won't have to worry about her again," Jack Rabbit tried to soothe her.
"How? She'll be out in a week, just like last time!" Yuina told him. Jack Rabbit smirked and pointed toward the sky.
"Let's just say I have an eye in the sky," Yuina looked where he was pointing and saw the drone hovering above them.
"So… Everything that happened…"
"Was recorded," Jack Rabbit answered. "You just need to call the cops and we'll take care of the rest."
Yuina started to cry again, but instead of tears of anger and frustration, they were tears of joy and relief.
"Thank you! Thank you!"
"It's fine. Just get home safe," Jack Rabbit told her before using his grappling hook to leave.
He landed on the roof and peered down into the alleyway and saw Yuina calling the police. He smiled and turned to Sora who was right in his face.
"She's doing her part. Did you get started on yours?"
"I'm almost done with it!" Echo answered. Jack Rabbit smiled before yawning.
"That's good. I think we should call it a night," Jack Rabbit said when he strapped himself onto Sora. Echo didn't answer him, she just flew him home.
The air around their booth was tense. When Izuku woke up that morning he received two texts from his friends telling him that their acceptance letters came in. They agreed to meet up at Flippy's for lunch to see their results.
"So… Who should go first?" Tsu asked while staring intensely at her envelope. They have both been like this since they sat down. Izuku wanted to suggest that they should just rip them open, but considering the life-changing contents in the envelopes, he decided against it.
"Ladies first?" Fumikage suggested jokingly. Izuku could tell that Fumikage was still dreading the Written Exam results, but from what he and Dark Shadow told them about the Practical Exam, Izuku knew his friend didn't have much to dread about.
Tsu gave Fumikage a deadpan stare before sighing. "Fine."
She neatly opened the seal of her envelope and pulled out a metallic disk. She looked it over and found a button on the bottom of it. She pushed it and set it down on the table so everyone could see it. A few seconds passed before a holographic projection of Present Mic came from the disk.
"HEELLLLLOOOO LITTLE LISTENER! IT'S ME, YOU'RE FAVORITE RADIO HOST!" Mic's voice boomed through the disk. A few of the restaurant goers looked over at their table while others paid more attention to their food. Tsu tried to lower the volume but couldn't find anything on the disk that would allow that.
"Maybe doing this in public was a bad idea," Izuku commented after looking around the restaurant. Present Mic cleared his voice after a hand appeared on the screen, telling him to quiet down.
"Alright, Miss Tsuyu Asui, let's go over your results…" Tsu leaned forward with anticipation and Izuku put a supportive hand on her shoulder. "You had a high enough score on your Written Exam that would land you into General Studies! Depending on your Practical Exam score, of course!"
Tsu let out a breath that she didn't know she was holding. It lifted a huge weight off of her shoulders to know that it was guaranteed she'd be attending UA.
"Now, for the Practical Exam…" Present Mic paused for dramatic effect to stir up tension. Tsu would've found it amusing if it was in a movie, show, or book but since it's about her future she was annoyed. "You scored a total of 32 Villain Points. A good score, yes, but it's not enough to be accepted in the Hero Course…"
Tsu felt her heart break a little. Sure, she'll still be able to attend UA, but she wouldn't be able to fulfill her dream of being a hero. Izuku rubbed her arm to make her feel better.
"Don't worry, I heard that General Studies students have a chance to be moved into the Hero Course if they perform well in the Sports Festival," Izuku said to make her feel better. Tsu gave him a small smile but he could tell that she was still upset.
"But, there was something we didn't tell you about the exam…" Everyone's eyes shot right back to the projection when they heard Present Mic. "You see, being a hero is more than just beating up bad guys, fame, and fortune. It's about protecting those who can't protect themselves and making sure there is a safer tomorrow for everyone…"
Present Mic was replaced by a montage of Tsu saving her fellow test takers. It showed her destroying a robot that was sneaking up on an unsuspecting tester and using her tongue to rescue someone who was outnumbered.
"And with that in mind, we reward those examinees with a secret points system called Rescue Points! We sent your exam film to a secret committee to vote on how many Rescue Points you'll receive. And, Miss Tsuyu Asui, you received…" Present Mic paused for another dramatic effect. The trio wanted to yell at the projection, but with so many eyes on them already they chose not to create any more unwanted attention on them.
"...17 Rescue Points! This brings your total up to 49 points which is enough to be accepted in the Hero Course! Congratulations, Miss Tsuyu Asui! This is your Hero Academia!"
After the projection turned off, the restaurant goers who were paying attention gave Tsu a round of applause. It took a few seconds for the frog girl herself to process what the pro told her, but when it finally sunk in she shed a few tears of joy.
"You did it, Tsu!" Izuku congratulated her. Caught up with so many emotions, Tsu absent-mindedly pulled Izuku into a big hug. Izuku felt a little embarrassed but seeing how happy Tsu was he returned her embrace.
It took a few minutes for everyone in the restaurant to calm down and return to their meal. It took an extra few seconds for Tsu and Izuku to break apart. When they did, the duo looked over to Fumikage who was staring at his envelope.
"I bet you're feeling a lot better about your chances, ribbit," Tsu said to her friend. Fumikage softly smiled while giving her a short nod before frowning when he looked at his envelope again. The green-haired duo also frowned when they saw their friend's dejected state. "You're still worried about the Written Exam, aren't you?"
"A little," Fumikage admitted timidly.
"Don't worry about it. You said you got 47 Villain Points and with the reveal of Rescue Points you probably got a higher score," Izuku said to make his friend feel better.
"But what if they dock some of my points because of my poor Written Exam grade?" Fumikage tried to argue but his friend just shook his head.
"I doubt it. And if you're that worried then there's only one way to find out," Izuku motioned to the unopened envelope and Fumikage sighed.
"I guess it's time for me to bite the bullet then."
Fumikage slowly opened his envelope and, just like Tsu's, a small disk fell out. He turned it on and the hologram turned on. But instead of Present Mic being on the projection he was replaced by a more muscular and taller blond man who wore a huge smile on his face.
"I AM HERE AS A PROJECTION!"
"ALL MIGHT!" The trio exclaimed and every living being in the restaurant had their eyes on the trio's booth when they heard both the number one hero's name and voice. The trio was confused as to why All Might was giving Fumikage his exam score instead of Present Mic or another member of UA's faculty.
"Now, before we get into it I would like to reveal something about this upcoming school year. Starting today, I'll be joining UA's staff to help teach the heroes of tomorrow!" All Might revealed and the trio heard the people gossiping around them. Izuku then quickly realized what the number one hero said.
"You got in!" Izuku said suddenly. His two friends gave him puzzled looks and he quickly explained himself. "Why would UA send you an acceptance letter with news that not even the public knew about? The only reason why they would is because you got in!"
Fumikage's eyes widened when he processed his friend's words. He then smiled and his two friends gave him congratulatory pats on the back.
"Yes, yes, I know, you must be excited but this isn't about me it's about you, Young Fumikage Tokoyami!" All Might moved on to the main topic. "Now, you barely passed your Written Exam. If I'm being honest math wasn't always my best subject when I was your age."
Fumikage blushed with embarrassment. He didn't like that a restaurant full of people knew he wasn't the most academically gifted. Something about strangers knowing an embarrassing secret about you is always worse than when your friends know it.
"Moving on!" All Might said after clearing his throat. "On your Practical Exam, you culminated a total of 47 Villain Points! That alone will get you into the Hero Course, but there's one thing that we withheld from you…"
"Let's see how many Rescue Points you got," Izuku said with anticipation.
"Being a hero is more than stopping the bad guy and late-night interviews. It's about protecting the lives of the innocent and making sure the sun comes up to a better tomorrow. With that in mind, we here at UA created a secret pointing system called Rescue Points…"
The projector showed a montage of Fumikage saving his fellow examinees. It then showed a picture of him running from the zero-pointer and he blushed. It looked like he was holding nothing but he knew who he was carrying and what they were wearing.
"After a long review by our committee, you, young Fumikage Tokoyami, have received 50 Rescue Points! Bringing your total up to 97 points! The second highest score in UA! Next to my 150 points of course," All Might added as a humble brag. "Congratulations, young Fumikage Tokoyami! This is your Hero Academia!"
The crowd of people didn't wait for the projection to cheer for Fumikage. The manager came out of the kitchen and declared that both Tsu and Fumikage would each get a free chocolate lava cake. The trio was so caught up in the commotion that they almost missed the leaderboard on the projection. In first was Fumikage and in second was…
"I don't think he's gonna like that," Izuku said when he noticed his former childhood friend was second.
"Do you think he popped a blood vessel when he saw the score?" Tsu asked jokingly.
"Knowing how he always threw a fit whenever he didn't get what he wanted when we were little… I would say that's a possibility," Izuku answered with a joke of his own.
Izuku was checking himself in the mirror after he put on his high school uniform. It was just a black top and black pants, nothing special. He was glad his uniform didn't have a tie because he could never figure out how to tie one, and he looked up a lot of videos to learn how. He walked downstairs expecting to find Miss Azumi in the kitchen, but he was surprised to find Hayami sitting at the dining room table.
He could see that she was trying her best to fight off her sleepiness, but it was a fight that she was losing. She was clutching the stuffed rabbit that he gave her.
"Hey, Hayami, what are you doing up this early?" Izuku asked the young girl.
"She wanted to see you off on your first day of high school," he heard Miss Azumi say from the kitchen. Soon the caretaker emerged from the kitchen with a plate of chocolate chip pancakes and a glass of milk. "It's also her first day of school as well."
"That's right! Are you excited, Hayami?" Izuku asked, and Hayami was finally able to wipe the last bit of tiredness from her eyes.
"A little," she said with a hint of nervousness in her voice.
"Don't be nervous. I bet you'll make a lot of friends," Izuku told her as he finished the last bit of his breakfast. "Thanks for the food, Miss Azumi. Make sure you go back to sleep, Hayami."
Izuku left the orphanage and ran to the train station where he met up with Fumikage who was wearing UA's uniform. A gray blazer over a white button-up shirt, bluish-green pants, and a red tie. They rode the train and met up with Tsu at the Musutafu station. She was wearing the same thing as Fumikage but instead of pants, it was a skirt.
They walked to their respective schools and on the way both Tsu and Fumikage talked about how nervous they were. Izuku did his best to reassure them that it was the first day of school and they had nothing to worry about.
"What's the worst that could happen?"
