Lexunn: I'm not a fan of HGS. I've seen multiple video essays talking about what's wrong with the show and I felt like I could do something better. The only reason why I'm asking is that I don't think anyone would want to read a story about HGS.

Fumikage and Tsu stood before UA but instead of being UA hopefuls, they were now UA students. The euphoria they had from being accepted vanished the moment they left the station. They should feel excited knowing that they're both one step closer to accomplishing their dream, but something kept eating at them. Something in their brains kept telling both of them that something will go wrong today.

"I know that it's the first day but I feel like something bad is gonna happen," Fumikage said, not being able to take his eyes off of the building. He had a massive feeling of stress weighing down on him when he woke up. He was the number one ranked examinee from the practical portion so did that mean that the teachers had certain expectations he had to live up to? What would happen to him if he couldn't?

There was also Bakugo he had to worry about. He knew that his friends were joking when they suggested that the blond popped a blood vessel when they saw the rankings, but based on the one interaction he had with the boy, he assumed that he'd have a grudge against him. He really didn't want to look over his shoulder or be wary in the hallways wondering if Bakugo was around, and heaven forbid they're put in the same class. The last thing he wants is to have an unnecessary confrontation with the boy on the first day.

"If he tries anything I'll knock him into next week," Dark Shadow told his host, causing Fumikage to mentally sigh.

'Let's not do anything that could get us expelled, or worse. Okay?' Fumikage pleaded with his quirk. He knows that he can always restrain Dark Shadow if they try something, but it was always annoying and severely taxing on his energy.

Tsu, on the other hand, was having some self-doubt. She did manage to pass the practical exam, but something in her mind kept telling her she shouldn't be in the hero course. It was mainly caused by her Villain Points. She didn't have enough villain points to pass and, if it weren't for the Rescue Points, she would be in General Studies instead of the Hero Course.

Her mind kept telling her she got in on a technicality and she took a spot from someone more deserving. Even though she wanted to be a rescue hero, she was still going to have to fight villains. If she couldn't destroy a large number of robots then what could she do against villains with strong quirks, if she can't beat them then she's putting a lot more lives in danger. She doesn't think she'll be able to live with the guilt of inadvertently hurting innocent people because she couldn't do her job.

"So… Should we go in?" Fumikage spoke up. Tsu jumped a little but quickly nodded. She reminded herself that she was going to the most prestigious school in the country, if not the world. They'll train her to be the best hero she could be to prevent any accidental casualties.

The duo walked down the hallway looking for their classroom. Luckily for the two, they were put in the same class so they didn't have to worry about not seeing each other during their time at UA. Their classroom was class 1-A so they both stuck to the first floor to find their class.

"These doors are huge!" Fumikage pointed out. The doors were about the size of a two-story building. He didn't notice the gigantic doors during the exam because he was too worried about the written portion to see something obvious.

The duo then came up to a door that had 1-A on it. They took a deep breath and opened the door. They quickly noticed how empty the room was, with only a few students present. No one seemed to notice the duo walking in.

"Guess we're early," Tsu whispered to her friend. Fumikage hummed in response before moving to his seat. Sadly, the two friends' seats weren't close to each other, but they didn't mind. They were happy to be in the same class.

As he walked to his seat, Fumikage studied the students that were in the room. He first noticed the bespectacled boy from the exam sitting straight by the door. There was also a plain guy with a tail sitting up front and next to him was a big man with tentacles. Sitting in the back of the classroom, furthest from the door, was a girl with long black hair tied up in a ponytail.

Fumikage took his seat, which was in front of a boy who had heterochromia, red and white hair, and a scar over his left eye. Usually, he would sit on top of his desk, but since it was the first he decided against it to not draw any attention to himself. Time flew by as he watched more students walk into class. Some were tall, short, and some had distinguishing features like pink skin, red hair, or weirdly shaped elbows.

Then someone came in that put both Fumikage and Tsu on edge. It was Bakugo. Fumikage felt Dark Shadow squirming around in him, but he managed to suppress his quirk. Everyone else was caught up with their own things; they didn't pay the blond any heed.

Bakugo slowly walked through the class, only stopping for a second when he spotted Fumikage. He gave Fumikage a death stare before moving to his seat. Tsu gave Fumikage a worried look and he shot one back telling her that everything was fine.

Out of nowhere, the bespectacled boy started to reprimand Bakugo for putting his feet on his desk. Fumikage didn't pay them any attention. He already had a headache from suppressing Dark Shadow, he didn't need to make it worse. He placed his head on his desk and waited until class started.

"It's you!"

Fumikage raised his head and was met face-to-face with floating clothes. It only took him a full second to become a blushing mess when he realized who it was. It was the girl he saved during the exam. He still remembers what she told him about her quirk.

He was at a loss for words and he heard Dark Shadow laughing and felt Tsu staring at him. He knew that she was going to tease him later, but that wasn't his main concern at the moment. He was more concerned about looking like a weirdo to the girl in front of him. Luckily for him, she didn't seem to notice him gaping like a fish, he thinks.

"I never got a chance to thank you for saving back then," she said with what Fumikage assumed was a bow, considering how her clothes moved.

"It's nothing. I did what anyone else would've done," Fumikage tried to downplay what he did. He truly believed he didn't do anything special and that if anyone was in his place they would've done the same.

"But you're the one who saved me. And I thank you for that," she said.

"I think you should take it. She doesn't seem to be the type to take no for an answer," Dark Shadow told him. Fumikage mentally sighed, even though he felt like he did nothing special. If it would make her feel better then he might as well give her what she wants.

"No problem, Miss…?" The invisible girl realized she never told Fumikage her name to no fault of her own. It's not like she had an opportune time to tell him.

"Oh, my name is Toru Hagakure," she revealed.

"It's nice to meet you Hagakure. My name is Fumikage Tokoyami," he returned. He could tell that she was very appreciative of how her clothes seemed to move after he told her his name.

"If you're here to make friends then you can leave."

Toru's excitement was broken up when that monotone voice filled the room. Everyone looked to the front of the room to find a big yellow cocoon standing in front of the class. The cocoon unzipped itself, informing everyone that it was a sleeping bag, to reveal a man who resembled more of a homeless man than a hero. The man took a sip from a yogurt pouch as he scanned the room.

"It took you all 8 seconds to quiet down. That's not gonna work. When you're out on the field every second is precious," the homeless man reprimanded the class. He took another sip from his yogurt pouch and sighed. "Hello, I'm Shota Aizawa and I am your Homeroom teacher."

When he revealed that information everyone had the same thought. 'He's our teacher!?' As if he read everyones' thoughts, Aizawa sighed again before pulling out gym uniforms from his sleeping bag and placing them on the podium.

"Let's get to it. Put these on and head outside."

Everyone gave Aizawa a blank stare, unsure of his instructions. They expected their teacher to explain himself, but Aizawa curled back into his sleeping bag and wiggled out of the classroom. Everyone was silent for a few seconds before someone stood up and took one of the uniforms. It was a muscular boy with spiky red hair.

"So, does anyone remember where the locker rooms are?" He asked the class. The bespectacled boy stood up and told the redhead he knew where they were.

One by one, everyone grabbed a uniform and followed the two out of the classroom. Fumikage and Tsu were the last ones to get a uniform so they could walk together and avoid Bakugo.

"Glad to see that you're making friends, ribbit," Tsu told them as they made their way down the hallway. Fumikage rolled his eyes as Dark Shadow emerged from his body.

"They're a lot closer than you think," Dark Shadow snickered before Fumikage retracted his quirk before it could reveal anything else.

"We met during the exam, ok!" Fumikage quickly said, red in the face. Tsu giggled a little as they came up to the locker rooms. They agreed to catch up with each other when they were outside before going into their respective locker room.

After changing, Fumikage walked into the hall looking for his classmates. He hoped to find at least one of them because he didn't know where Aizawa wanted them to meet up. He soon spotted a boy with purple hair wearing the same uniform as him. As he got closer, Fumikage noticed that the boy seemed familiar.

"Hold on!" Fumikage called out. The boy stopped and turned to him. Getting a better look at his face, Fumikage realized that he was the boy who saved him and Hagakure in the exam.

"Yeah?"

"I don't know where Mr. Aizawa wants us to meet. I thought you might know where to go?" Fumikage asked. To his dismay, the boy shook his head.

"Sorry, I don't. I was gonna look for an exit and walk around the school until I found him. You're free to join me," the boy offered. Fumikage nodded his head and the two walked out of the school and tried to find their homeroom teacher.

"I'm Hitoshi Shinso by the way," the boy introduced himself.

"Fumikage Tokoyami," Fumikage shot back.

The two walked out of the building and didn't see any of their classmates or teacher. They started to walk around the school to find their class.

"I would like to thank you for saving me and Hagakure in the exam," Fumikage said. He wanted to let Shinso know he was thankful for what he did and to also pass the time. Shinso raised an eyebrow before shrugging.

"Don't worry about it. It's pretty much the entire reason why I'm here. Those resume points were a lifesaver," Shinso revealed with a light chuckle. Fumikage nodded and hummed in response, even though he had enough villain points to be accepted.

"So, what do you think of our teacher?" Fumikage asked. From what he could tell, Mr. Aizawa seems like he would rather be sleeping than teaching a bunch of kids.

"I think he's awesome! To be taught by the best underground hero, Eraser Head!" Shinso said, causing Fumikage to jump in surprise.

"You know who our teacher is!?"

"I'm his biggest, if not his only fan. He would be higher up in the rankings if he was more of a public figure or any type of merchandise," Shinso told Fumikage. "In the lone interview with him, he says that heroes who do multiple public appearances and adverts make a mockery of their profession."

"He seems like the no-nonsense type of person then," Fumikage said and Shinso chuckled.

"I heard a rumor that he expelled his entire class last year because he thought they had no potential," Shinso said with a bright smile and Fumikage felt his stomach drop.

A couple of minutes passed before the two found their teacher. They also saw some of their classmates as well. Fumikage split away from Shinso when he saw Tsu with their classmates. He pulled her aside and told her everything Shinso told him, and when he told her about the rumor her heart stopped for a second.

"You're kidding!" Tsu whispered to not alert any of their classmates or teacher.

"It's only a rumor, but we should be cautious around Mr. Aizawa," Fumikage responded.

A few more minutes passed before everyone arrived. Mr. Aizawa scanned his class before sighing.

"It took you 15 minutes to get here. What did I tell you about every second being precious?"

"It's your fault for not telling us where to go!" Dark Shadow shot back and Fumikage was glad that no one could hear Dark Shadow when they were submerged in him.

"Time management is something you all need to work on, but we'll save that for another day. Today, we'll be doing a quirk assessment test," Mr. Aizawa told everyone.

"A QUIRK ASSESSMENT TEST!?" Everyone exclaimed.

"But what about orientation?" A girl with a bob cut and a permanent blush whined.

"If you really want to be a hero you can't waste time with something pointless like ceremonies," Aizawa shot back. "At UA, we're not bound to traditions like other schools. This means I can run my class however I see fit."

The more timid students shrunk under his glare while the more stoic ones didn't back down. Mr. Aizawa held up a tablet that had a list of exercises on it.

"You've been taking standardized tests for most of your lives, but you never got to use your quirks in physical exams before," Mr. Azaiwa told them and the more timid students started to loosen up. "The country is still pretending that we're still equal by not letting the ones with the most power excel. It's not rational and one day the ministry will learn."

Mr. Aizawa then turned to Fumikage who slightly flinched under their teacher's gaze.

"Tokoyami, you scored the highest in the entrance exam. What was your farthest distance thrown with a softball in Junior High?" He asked.

"4.37 meters," Fumikage told him and he heard some people snickering behind him. He has been working out and he knows he can throw a softball further than 25 meters, but 4.37 was his official score on his transcript.

"Alright then…" Mr. Aizawa tossed him a softball and pointed to the circle behind him. "Try using your quirk this time. Anything goes, stay in the circle."

Standing in the circle, Fumikage felt everyones' eyes on him. He felt a lot of pressure to set an example for everyone. It also didn't help that he could feel Bakugo trying to burn a hole in the back of his head.

"Just ignore them. Let's figure out how we're gonna do this!" Dark Shadow tried to motivate his host. Fumikage remembered he could use his quirk and that his past scores were now obsolete.

'We can't leave the circle, so maybe I could toss it up and you could hit it,' Fumikage suggested, but Dark Shadow had a better idea.

"He said that you had to stay in the circle. He never said anything about me," Dark Shadow said and Fumikage quickly learned what Dark Shadow was alluding to.

Fumikage stretched out his hand and Dark Shadow emerged from his body. The sentient quirk then took the ball and went out as far as he could. After he reached his limit, Dark Shadow reared back his arm and launched the ball as far as he could. When Dark Shadow came back to the circle the ball landed and Mr. Aizawa held up the tablet to show him his score.

678.4 meters.

Fumikage took his spot next to Tsu and he heard his classmates talking about his score and how excited they were for the test. Then someone said the test looked like fun and that's when the mood changed.

"So this looks fun, huh?" Everyone heard Mr. Aizawa mutter. The aura around everyone changed from cheerful to dreadful. Mr. Aizawa had an eerie smile on his face that triggered everyone's fight or flight. "You have three years to become heroes. Do you think it's all gonna be fun and games? Fine then let's make this interesting. You'll all be competing in eight physical tests to gauge your potential. Whoever comes in last has none and will be expelled immediately."

Everyone cried out in panic but Mr. Aizawa didn't seem to care. He appeared to be enjoying their misery.

"Like I said, I get to decide how I run my class. Whoever has a problem with that can go home."

"You can't do that! We just got here! It's not fair!" The bob-cut girl tried to complain. Fumikage knew her heart was in the right place but he felt like she just made things worse for everyone.

"Are natural disasters, power-hungry villains, or catastrophic accidents that wipe out cities fair? No! The world is full of unfairness," Mr. Aizawa shut down her and anyone else's complaints. "It's a hero's job to fight that unfairness. If you want to be a hero then you need to push yourself to your limit. For the next three years, you'll face one terrible hardship after another. So go beyond, plus ultra style. Prove to me that it's no mistake you're here."

Mr. Aizawa expected his students to squirm and beg him to reconsider but much to his shock, a majority of them looked determined. Some even looked excited about his challenge. Some did cower under his threat of expulsion and he knew they were gonna finish in the bottom portion of the class. This just means he has to keep an extra eye on them.

Fumikage took Mr. Aizawa's challenge in stride. He knew that with Dark Shadow he didn't have to worry about finishing at the bottom of the class. He didn't have to worry about Tsu either because he saw how hard she worked to get here and he knew she could use her quirk in creative ways. But there was one person he was a little concerned for.

"You ok?" Fumikage asked Hagakure. When Mr. Aizawa put out his challenge he saw how Hagakure's clothes were shaking profusely.

"Huh? O-Oh y-yeah. But you should worry about yourself. Don't want anyone taking your spot as the top student!" Hagakure finished with a nervous laugh. Fumikage saw right through her but decided not to call her out. He didn't want to give her any unnecessary stress before the tests.

Fumikage started to strategize with Dark Shadow on how they'll go about the tests. He knew he wouldn't be able to use his quirk for every event so he was gonna have to be smart on which tests to use Dark Shadow for.

(50 Meter Dash)

Up first for this event was Tsu and the tall bespectacled boy. Something that Fumikage didn't notice earlier about the boy was that he had exhaust pipes in his calves. The two got set and waited for the start signal. A loud bang went off and the bespectacled boy shot off like a bullet, leaving Tsu in the dust.

He crossed the finish line in a blazing 3.04 seconds. Tsu finished shortly after in 5.58 seconds.

"Did they really need to set me up against someone with a speed quirk?" She jokingly complained to Fumikage.

Fumikage shrugged before walking up to the starting line. His opponent was Hagakure and he discretely gave her a sympathetic look before getting set. He knew Dark Shadow was gonna be useless for this test so he didn't even call out his quirk. He heard the loud bang and he was off.

After crossing, he heard his time was 5.73 seconds. Hagakure crossed with a time of 6.32 seconds. He walked back to Tsu and saw Mr. Aizawa watching closely at every student when they competed. He also noticed Shinso was also paying close attention to everyone but it didn't raise any eyebrows.

(Grip Strength)

For this test, he and Dark Shadow worked together to get a final score of 246 kg. Tsu used her tongue and got a final score of 123 kg. They both heard someone praising the guy with tentacles for getting a score of 540 kg.

Fumikage watched Shinso pull the tentacled man aside. He thought it was odd but he didn't look too much into it.

(Standing Long Jump)

This test was easy for the two friends. Tsu was able to use her strong legs to clear the sandbox and Dark Shadow was able to catapult Fumikage over the sandbox as well. Sadly, Hagakure didn't get halfway of the sandbox and Shinso was only able to get a little further than Hagakure. Fumikage was starting to worry that one of them was going to get expelled, but he believed that they'll start picking it up in the next five events.

(Ball Throw)

After an uneventful Repeated Side Steps, except for a miniature boy who used his quirk to easily bounce side to side, they were now doing the Ball Throw. Since he went earlier, Fumikage didn't have to take part in the event. He watched his friend use her tongue to throw the ball 86.8 meters. Hagakure only managed to throw the ball 19.7 meters which was a lot better than a miniature boy who threw it 11.4 meters.

The bob-cut girl was up and she lightly threw the ball. Everyone watched as the ball flew high up into the air, past the clouds, and out of sight. Mr. Aizawa revealed her score to everyone and all their jaws dropped.

"INFINITE!"

The girl returned to the class with an embarrassed chuckle. She tried to downplay what she did by explaining that her quirk allowed her to nullify the effects of gravity on solid objects. That didn't stop everyone from praising her.

Shinso took his spot in the circle. He looked at the ball before turning to the bob-cut girl.

"What's your name?" He asked her.

"Ochaco Uraraka," she answered before her eyes glossed over. Shinso smirked.

"Uraraka can you do me a favor and throw this ball for me," Shinso asked and Uraraka absent-mindedly walked up to him. Some students tried to protest but they weren't able to stop her. Shinso tossed her the ball and she threw it.

"Infinite. Not bad," Mr. Aizawa praised him. The color in Uraraka's eyes returned and she looked lost.

"What's going on?"

After Uraraka said that everyone started to voice their displeasure. Some called him a cheater and said he should redo the test. Someone said he had a villainous quirk and that set Mr. Aizawa off. His eyes glowed a bright red while his hair and scarf flew around him.

"I will not tolerate quirk discrimination in my class. If you have a problem with someone's quirk then you can leave right now! Got it?"

Everyone shut their mouths after that. Shinso returned to the class but everyone did their best to avoid him, but he didn't mind. Mr. Aizawa sighed before putting some eye drops on his eyes. He knew that Shinso was gonna unintentionally cause him problems.

(Distance Run)

It was the final test of the quirk assessment test. After an uneventful sit-up and seated toe-touch, Fumikage successfully used Dark Shadow to give him a high score in both events; they were now on the final event, the distance run. Mr. Aizawa pointed them to a race track and told them to run until they couldn't anymore.

They all took off for the track and unsurprisingly, the bespectacled boy was leading the pack with the girl with the big ponytail, who was riding a bike, was right behind him. Fumikage and Tsu were in the middle of the pack with the boy with weird elbows and a girl with headphone jacks hanging off her earlobes. Fumikage looked behind him and saw Shinso and Hagakure struggling to keep up with the class. Feeling bad, Fumikage slowed down so the two could reach them.

"You do realize that the one who finishes last is going to be expelled," Fumikage reminded them. He saw Hagakure speed up a little but Shinso kept at the same pace.

"Don't worry about me. I think I'm safe after scoring well in the grip test and ball throw," Shinso then pointed at the miniature boy behind them who appeared ready to collapse at any moment. "I'm just trying to outlast him and then I'll stop."

Knowing he didn't need to convince Shinso, Fumikage sped up to catch up with Hagakure. He could hear her sucking in the air as if she was suffocating.

"I don't think I can do this anymore! I'm unfit to be a hero and my quirk is useless. Everyone's quirks are so much better than mine! Even Shinso's creepy quirk is better for hero work than invisibility!" Hagakure whined. Fumikage saw she was starting to slow down so he called out Dark Shadow and had his quirk push her.

"Don't give up yet! You made it into UA, remember that!" Fumikage tried to motivate her but he could tell she was ready to collapse at any moment. He turned around and saw the little boy was about ready to collapse at any moment. "Shinso told me that he was gonna stop after that little boy drops out. You just need to outlast him."

"But I didn't perform well in any of the other events. It wouldn't matter if I'm the third person to finish," Hagakure said between breaths. Fumikage turned around in time to see the little boy faceplant onto the ground. Shinso stopped shortly after.

Fumikage then started to think. Another bad finish for Hagakure could get her expelled. He did great for a majority of the events so he didn't have to worry about coming in last. He knew that being the fourth person to finish isn't great but if she lasts longer than someone who's performed well so far…

Fumikage recalled Dark Shadow before slowing down to a stop and started to breathe heavily. Shortly after he finished he heard Hagakure fall to the ground. He heard her dry heaving and he partially expected her to throw up, but luckily she didn't. She started crying though.

"I'm going home!" She said behind her tears. Fumikage came up behind her and placed a supportive hand on her shoulder.

"You're not going home. You did better than me," he tried to reassure her but she kept crying. He helped her off the ground and led her to where both Shinso and the little boy were standing.

It took about an hour for everyone to finish. Mr. Aizawa called them over to tell them their scores.

"I'm too tired to tell each of you your individual score, so I ranked each of you based on your performances today…" He pushed a button and a holographic leaderboard appeared.

Fumikage instantly saw his name in 5th place, allowing him to sigh with relief. He spotted Tsu's name in 13th place and Shinso's in 16th place. He scanned down the board, hoping to see Hagakure's name in any spot other than 20th. He came up to 19th and…

"NNNNNOOOOOOO! I CAN'T BE EXPELLED! I didn't get to show off my cool power or see any of the other girls in their underwear!" The little boy cried out. Fumikage let out a breath he didn't know he was holding when he saw Hagakure's name in 19th place. He would like to feel bad for the boy, but after he said he wanted to creep on the girls, he didn't feel too bad to see him go.

"Oh, and about last place being expelled. That was a tactical ruse for you to give it your all," Mr. Aizawa revealed with a grin. Everyone eternally screamed while the girl with the ponytail saw through the ruse. Mr. Aizawa turned off the hologram and started to walk away. "That's it for today. Your class schedules are on your desks."

Almost everyone collapsed on the ground while some went to the locker room to change. Fumikage stood around and waited for Tsu to get some of her energy back.

"Not too bad of a first day, ribbit."
