A Xiaolin Showdown Story

Maxine Spicer's Xiaolin Adventures

Chapter 2

Hunt for Shen Gong Wu

~Last Time/ Maxine's POV~

My name is Maxine Spicer, I had just arrived home from school in England only to be dragged out again by my brother Jack Spicer on the hunt for Shen Gong Wu. I still don't fully understand the point in all of this but its for Jackie. He may be annoying but he's my brother and I like to help him whenever I can. Course he could stand to get better company. This freaky ghost named Wuya is a bigger pest then mosquitos in the summer, and right now I am sitting in a jet with my brother and Wuya. Flying to the location of this new Shen Gong Wu Wuya was sensing. Honestly I'm not interested in any of this. I just wanted to relax in my room with some music playing while laying on my bed in my pajamas. Instead I get guilted into tagging along with my brother on some hunt for Wu. Well at least I have my IPhone on me. Music always calms me whenever I'm in a bad mood or I just need to forget about what's happening around me.

At least for about an hour before Jack interrupted me saying we were here. He gave me a gentle shake on my knee which got my attention. I turned off my music, storing it in my bag for safe keeping. Jack had landed the jet in an open field. Not far from where the Wu was according to Wuya. With a push of a button the glass window above us opened up. Giving us access to the outside. We both left the jet landing our feet on the grass below us. I looked around the area. It was a secluded area where plant life grew and there wasn't a sign of civilization for miles.

"Okay we'll search the area for the Shen Gong Wu and call the other if one of us finds it first." Jack said a loud. "Wuya you go check over by those tree over there. (points to a group of tree on the right side) Maxine you go check up ahead. (points straight in front of him) I'll go check near that giant rock. (points to the large boulder downhill to the left side) Remember, call if you find the Wu."

We split up after that. I walked ahead following a trail of wild flowers towards an old stone bridge. On first glance the bridge looked to still be standing tall and strong. As I walked closer the bridge was broken up, barely standing. Whatever was still standing was not enough to help me get across. In fact most of the bridge that still stood was on the other side. Looking below at the ground beneath the bridge was a river. When I walked closer I leaned forward a little to get a better look at it. The river had a fast current going and it was wide enough that if a person fell in they'd get taken away by the current. Guess walking through the water isn't an option. Going to need to figure out another way across.

Hmm...I still have my backpack on me. Might have some useful supplies inside I could use. I picked a spot on the grass to sit down, removed my backpack from my shoulders followed by removing each item I had inside. There was my IPhone, my notebook, a pencil case, a couple rubber bands, and a granola bar. Didn't look like anything was going to help me so I put everything back in my bag. Putting the back back in place.

"Now what am I going to do?" I asked myself looking up at the sky in deep thought. I had to do something and sitting around wasn't doing me any good.

If I only had a way to fly across the bridge.

Fly across the bridge...Fly...Wait a minute.

I just remembered something, I have on my experimental hover shoes. Yes I said experimental, I had yet to test them but now was as good a time as any. Then again it probably wasn't but Jackie is counting on me to find that Shen Gong Wu. I can't let him down. I pushed the small buttons I installed on the back of both my shoes and within moments I started hovering off the ground. It was slow starting but the thrusters began kicking in after another few seconds. Lifting me higher in the air by a good five feet. As I said these are experimental shoes. I thought five feet to start would be a good place to start. Only thing to do now was fly over the bridge.

I just hope the thrusters last long enough to do that. I made haste. Spreading my arms out to the sides for balance as I flew over the bridge. Thrusters were holding nicely as I flew. There were no problems as I flew to the other side. Once across I decided to fly for a little longer. I figured being in the air would help me spot the Shen Gong Wu with ease. Through the air I could see plenty of vegetation surrounding a cobblestone path that connected from the bridge to who-knows-where. I followed the path to an area where an old stone building once stood. Now only a pile of rubbles much like the bridge.

I decided to land on the grass near the abandon stone structure. Flying was one thing but it might be better to walk around in case I missed anything from above. As soon as my feet touched the ground the thrusters in my shoes turned off and my shoes returned to normal. Beginning my search I walked through the archway or what was left of it to look around. Just as I was about to take a step forward I immediately stopped when I heard voices nearby. Quickly I ran to a tree that was laying on the ground and hid behind it.

"Right this way you guys. The Lightning Locket is somewhere over here."

"We must make haste before Jack Spicer finds it."

"I'm with you little buddy. We need to find the Wu like a fox finds a chicken coop."

"Yeah only this case Jack's more the chicken who always get out foxed by us."

"Good one Rai."

I counted five voices, four male, one female. Peeking my head from behind the tree I saw whom the voices belonged to. To my surprise I saw a little green dragon on the shoulders of a big and tall blonde lad wearing cowboy attire. Hat and boots and all. The other boy who was close to the cowboys height had tan skin with brown hair and eyes. Wearing a long sleeved shirt, cargo pants and sneakers. The girl who appeared to be Japanese had jet black her hair in a ponytail. She wore sneakers, knee high stripped socks, a skirt, and a violet colored blouse. The final boy was a short boy. He looked to be the size of a giant teddy bear. His skin was as yellow as a lemon and he wore what looked like a karate uniform with a dark blue belt.

I stayed quiet, watching the strangers. The dragon started talking again. Pointing out that somewhere in this area the Lightning Locket laid hidden. The kids split up to search for the Wu. So they are looking for the Wu too. I wonder if Jackie knows that there are other people are looking for the Wu? They don't look like bad people. Course there's that old saying 'Never judge a book by its cover.' I better find that Wu. Jackie would be upset if I don't attempt to find it. I'll need to be sneaky. I should have grabbed the Shroud of Shadows before we left. Well I guess I'll have to sneak around carefully less I'm discovered.

Quietly I tip toed past the tree once the kids had gone off in different directions to start my search. Now if I were a locket where would I hide? Most likely under something such as a rock. Well there's plenty of rubble around the area. Looks like those kids have the same idea. They were lifting rocks, looking under for the Wu. I made haste starting my search for the Wu. I began lifting a medium size rock when I saw something shiny a couple feet in front of me. Letting go of the rock I walked over to what I saw glistering in the sun.

Could it be?

Had I found it?

That which was shining was coming from within some pile of rubble. I leaned in for a closer look. The object was circular with a thin chain attached to it. There was something else on it. It looked like a picture. A small picture of a lightning bolt. This must be the Wu Jackie is looking for. I reached my hand in, grabbed the Wu, pulled it out and...it began to glow.

Wait its glowing?

Wait a minute why is it glowing?

Since when do objects glow like a nightlight?

Hey there's another hand grabbing the Wu. Lifting my head (though not that high) up my eyes locked with the small boy in the karate gear. How did I not notice his hand?

"Greetings miss, if you would be so kind I would like the Shen Gong Wu you are holding please." He said in a polite manner. What a sweetheart. Before I could answer him, Jackie appeared from above the trees using his helipack with Wuya by his side.

"Maxine you found the Wu!" He cried with joy. "See Wuya, I told you my sister was good." His smile soon disappeared when he saw the little guy who had gotten a hold of it as well. "Oh great, cheddar head got it same time as you. Now you'll have to do a Xiaolin Showdown for the Wu."

"Do you know this girl Jack?" The tall tan boy asked looking from Jack to me then back at Jack.

"Of course I know her she's my little sister." Jack replied earning shocked expressions from everyone minus him and Wuya and myself.

"Dude you have a sister?!"

"Woo nelly ain't that a kick in the boot."

"Is it that hard to believe I Jack Spicer, evil boy genius have a sibling?!"

The other kids shrugged and looked the other way. My guess was Jackie never talked about me to these guys. Not that that upset me. Jackie has always been protective of me since we were little. Always trying to protect me though I ended up protecting him most of the time.

"Well then Jack Spicer's sister! Uh..."

He wanted to get my name so I spoke up.

"My name is Maxine, Max for short and what is your name?"

"I am Omi, a Xiaolin Dragon from the Xiaolin Temple. These are my friends Kimiko, Raimundo, Clay, and Dojo." He pointed to each person and dragon he named. I said hello to everyone giving a friendly wave at them.

"Its nice to meet you guys. If you don't mind my asking how do you all know my brother?" I asked with interest.

"Let me make a long story short for you Max." Sad Raimundo. "We're always kicking your brothers butt along with his robots whenever he tries to steal Shen Gong Wu from us."

"Hey, hey that's not true!" Jack denied. "I've beaten you guys a couple of times. You don't always beat me or my Jackbots."

"Please Jack they've beaten you so many times its becoming a running gag." Said Wuya.

"Whose side are you on?" Jack asked her.

"Uh huh...okay then." I was a little uncertain about what the arguing. Only because I didn't have all the proper knowledge to what was probably going on while I was away from home. Whatever history Jackie had with these guys was between him and them.

"Maxine just trust me when I tell you to beat cube ball and win the Wu." Said Jack.

"Jackie I'd appreciated if you didn't call Omi names." I said.

"Thank you Maxine, you are most kind." Said Omi.

"Oh your welcome Omi." I said with a smile. "Now then I believe you were going to say something after my name."

"Maxine sure is nice. Its almost hard to believe she's related to that no good varmint Jack Spicer." I heard Clay say to his friends but I kept quiet.

"Ah yes, thank you, Maxine Spicer, I challenge you to a Xiaolin Showdown!"

"Okay...just what is a Xiaolin Showdown? Does it have something to do with the Wu glowing?"

"Yes, allow me to explain." The small boy began. "In a Xiaolin Showdown the first to call the challenge decides said challenge and we each waiver a Wu to use in battle. Whoever wins gets all the Wu."

"Oh alright then if that's how it goes then I accept. Please select the challenge little one."

"You may call me Omi and the game is maze runner! The first to reach the center of the maze wins the Wu. I wager the Lotus Twister." He held up what looked like a wand with a large flower in bloom on top.

"I don't have anything to wager." I turned to Jackie. "Jackie do you have any Wu I could use?"

Jack opened his mouth to answer only to close it a second later. My guess is he wasn't exactly sure if he had any Wu on him or not. He landed on the ground to look through his helipack. He dug around for a while till he grabbed a hold of something. A huge smile was on his face as he pulled out...the Changing Chopsticks. Are you kidding me?

"Here Maxine you can use the Changing Chopsticks in the showdown." Jackie came up handing me the chopsticks. I didn't want to tell Jackie that this Wu was probably going to be useless less I upset him. Who knows maybe these will work out for me.

"Okay I wager the Changing Chopsticks." I told the little boy.

"Let's go, Xiaolin Showdown!" He cried out.

Before I could blink the environment around me began to change. I can't explain it but the grass grew as tall as corn reaching up to touch the sky. The ground began to shake. The rubble flew in the air landing below to create a pathway. Vine spread out entangling with the grass to create the walls of the maze. It was unlike anything I had ever seen. The sky remained clear but my surroundings changed entirely. Is this how a showdown began? I noticed that the vines and grass that had become walls stretched out in different directions.

Taking on the form of the maze everything stopped. Om and I were in front of an opening leading inside the maze. This was obviously the entrance. The two of us would enter but only one could reach the center first. Now the only question is how do we know when to go? I heard Jack's voice to my right. Turning my head in that direction Ii saw Jacking standing near the other monks. Surprisingly their outfits changed to match Omi's. They each had different styles but they matched. Must be part of the showdown.

Back to Jack, he told me to say the words Gong Ye Tan Pei. Odd words but my guess is those words are what got the showdown started. I turned to Omi who confirmed. If that's the case I shall say the words and begin the showdown. Surprisingly Omi and I cried out the words at the same time. Talk about coincidence. As soon as we finished saying the words the two of us made a break for it. The two of us went in different directions once we went through the entrance and hit a fork in the road. I took the path down the right, Omi took the path down the left.

As I ran down the path I go a better look at the area. The maze walls were indeed tall. If I flew being five feet off the ground wouldn't get me any closer to the top. Although it would help me get through the maze a tad faster. I activated my shoes for lift off. Flying through the maze I was careful not to go fast enough that I would crash. As I flew down different paths I found myself nowhere closer to the middle. I can't say for sure where I was going. I tried to run the calculations through my head to determine the likely path to take. As soon as I finished I started taking more turns only to come to an immediate stop when I came across a large Venus fly trap.

Apart from the enormous size and sharp fang like teeth it was a regular plant. This seemed like something one would see in a video game or out of a movie and yet I was looking right at it. The plant sure looked hungry when I noticed drool coming from its mouth. My first thought was to run but I could see the roots below wiggling around it. Ready to jolt forward and grab me. Then I remembered the Wu Jack had given me. If the Changing Chopsticks worked the way they did perhaps they could work on the plant. Taking aim at the plant I cried out 'Changing Chopsticks' and within seconds the Venus fly trap began to shrink. From a tall sunflower to a small apple that plant wouldn't be eating anytime soon.

With the plant no longer a problem I continued on my merry way. Flying further through I was sure I was getting closer. Taking a couple left turns followed by a few right turns I could see something glowing around another corner. That had to be the Shen Gong Wu. I was almost there. Before I could turn the corner Omi flew out of the grassy maze wall falling to the ground. I landed on the ground to go help Omi up on his feet.

"Are you alright Omi? What happened?" I asked as I helped him up.

"Oh I have this splitting pain in my head and pain on my knees." He said brushing his clothes. "I am alright, I was escaping these monstrous plants with sharp teeth."

"You too huh? I had to fight one of those things myself. I'm glad your unharmed but how did you escape?"

"Ah I simply used the Lotus Twister. It allows the user to stretch their body like this candy that stretches and takes time to chew and...um...what is it called?" Omi rubbed his chin while trying to think of the name.

"I think you mean taffy, yes?"

"Ah that is it."

"Impressive, well we should be safe now. I think the Shen Gong Wu is around that corner." I pointed to the glow.

"Then let us have a clean fight to the Shen Gong Wu."

"Agreed."

We shook hands and took off running to the glow. Now I am a woman who plays fair unlike Jackie. If I am going to win this challenge I am going to do it fair and square. Hopefully I could reach the Wu first for Jackie. He'd be upset if I did not win but I think Wuya would be disappointed the most if I failed. I was going to have to pick up the pace. Time to sprint ninja style. Yes, I watch Anime and I sometimes like to study and try the moves I see the characters use. Going forth with my plan I sprint forward Naruto style towards the Wu. Omi and I were neck and neck for he was sprinting at the same pace besides me.

I could hear the cheering from everyone on the sidelines. It was going to be a close one. I reached my hand out as I picked up the speed. The Wu was in our grasp. Omi looked ready to jump for it when I beat him to it. Grabbing the Wu followed by falling to the ground in the process. Just like that the scenery around us returned to its original form. The soft grass I had been laying on turned back to dirt. Jackie ran over helping me up on my feet. He was complimenting me for a job well done followed by taunting the others. Why he had to be a jerk was beyond my knowledge.

"You snooze you lose Xiaolin losers! (evil laugh) Aw man you should see the looks on your faces right now." Jack went on till I shut him up by putting my hand over his mouth.

"Jackie do us all a favor and shut up. Honestly why must you be rude? If you're going to act this way I should just give the Lightning Locket to Omi and his friends." I explained in a serious tone.

"Whoa! Easy there sis there's no need to be hasty." This got Jackie's attention.

"You wouldn't dare." Said Wuya.

"Watch me you old hag." I replied walking up to Omi. "Here, I have no need for this you can have it."

"No! Jack stop her!" Ordered Wuya.

"I would...um except...uh...well..." Jackie sounded nervous which made sense. He knew I could kick his ass. I didn't take five years karate for nothing.

"You are most kind Jack's sister, thank you.' Said Omi bowing before taking the Wu from me.

"Aw Maxine no..."Jack whined.

"Come on Jackie let's go home. I think mom deserves to hear about your behavior."

"Oh no, no please Maxine don't call mom." Jack was begging on his knees in front of me. The others were laughing behind us. They found Jackie's begging attempt amusing and I did as well but I wouldn't show it.

"Jackie please get up, I won't call mom if we leave now." I told him.

"Okay, okay whatever you say." Said Jack getting up from his knees. "We'll go home now."

"It was nice meeting you guys." I said to the monks. "Hope we'll meet again sometime."

I waved goodbye as Jackie, Wuya and myself left for the jet. Something in my gut told me this wouldn't be the last time I would meet the Xiaolin monks; and something else was telling me this was only the beginning of my new adventures.
