Chapter 6

Master Monk Guan

~Somewhere in a Rainforest~

Despite getting dragged along by my brother to retrieve Shen Gong Wu I've enjoyed seeing the monks and watching Jack get his butt kicked mot of the time. Can't let him know that though. Right now we are flying with the use of our helipacks through the Rainforest. Wuya had sensed a new Wu called the Lasso Boa Boa. When activated, it can transform into bone crushing constrictor. Similar to a snake when it captures its prey. Terrifying and fascinating at the same time but not something I'd want to watch.

We continued flying till we saw a clear opening and the monks. I could see the Lasso Boa Boa hanging from a tree branch. Who'd have thought the Wu would look similar to a snake. Jack goes on saying if the monks want the Wu they'd have to get pass him and his latest Wuyabots. The monks found the bots disgusting and ugly looking and I completely agreed. I told Jackie these bots were a waste of time. Not to mention they were twice as ugly as the original. Of course the monks had no trouble defeating the bots. Especially when they used Dragon X Kumei Formation. Looking at the timer on my phone it took the monks all but five second to finish off the rest of the bots.

Jackie flew away crying and screaming while Wuya was calling him a disgrace to evil. I laughed heartedly then came down for a landing. Just as a strange man appeared offering the Wu to the monks and introducing himself. Well Omi did that for him. The man's name was Master Monk Guan. A skillful warrior who had been traveling around the world when he found the monks. Omi tried to properly greet Master Monk Guan but kept messing up. Master Monk Guan didn't mind. He gave Omi a pat on the head saying he understood what Omi tried to say. Since Master Monk Guan was such a popular warrior that Omi admired so much he invited him over to the temple. I asked if I could tag along which got an immediately yes in reply.

At the temple, we watched the master hacky sack four balls with his foot. Omi was overwhelmed as he watched the master.

"Master Monk Guan is the most accomplished Ti Chi master. He has defeated the greatest warriors using only his famous Sphere of Guan." Said Omi who was then hacky sacking the balls Master Monk Guan passed over.

"Nice moves Omi." I said.

"And I see much potential in you Omi." Said Master Monk Guan.

"Oh ho yes, I know." Said Omi as he kept up the rhythm.

"I only wish I could have arrived sooner to join you." Said Master Monk Guan.

"You know I'm the one who flew them there." Said Dojo.

"Yeah, we were lucky to get there at all." Said Raimundo making a joke which earned laughter from Clay and Kimiko. I didn't find it funny so I stayed quiet. At least until Omi lost his footing and the ball flew up and landed on Dojo's head.

"Ha, ha, ha, ha what a Dojo." Said Clay.

Okay, that part was a little funny. The others were trying to hold back their laughter. Skip ahead a little to lunch. It was a nice spread of various food for us to enjoy. Some of us more then others. We watched Dojo stuff his face like a machine. I was surprised he didn't choke from all the food he put in his mouth.

"Dojo, perhaps if you didn't eat so much you would fly swifter." Said Omi. Dojo immediately stopped eating, giving Omi a look.

"Are you saying that I'm fat?" He asked with his mouth full.

"No, no, no nothing like that. Its just that your um...big boned." Said Raimundo looking at Dojo's belly.

"You know, I can still fit into the same swimming trunks I wore fifteen hundred years ago." Said Dojo.

"(giggles) You mean your old toga?" Said Kimiko earning laughter from everyone but myself. The other left the room leaving me and Dojo alone.

I felt bad for Dojo. He may have gained a little weight but that doesn't mean the monks should tease him about it. Seeing the hurt look on his face I decided to step up and comfort Dojo the best I could. That's what friends do for each other and I considered Dojo my friend.

"Hey Dojo, listen pay no attention to those guys. You look good, you do and look if you are comfortable with your current appearance then I saw walk tall and proud." I said to him. Hopefully I could cheer the little guy up a little.

"Its not the weight thing that's bugging me Maxine. Its the lack of respect." Said Dojo. "I do all the flying and all the sensing of Shen Gong Wu, but do I ever get a pat on the back or a good job Dojo? No, never." With that said the gut he was apparently holding in was released. Landing on the table thus showing how much he'd let himself go.

I wasn't going to say anything about it. Wanted to but I didn't. Last time that happened was when Mom put on a little weight while out with her girlfriends all weekend. Jackie immediately noticed, told mom and earned himself two weeks of no lab time. Tried to warn him but he never listens. When it comes to a persons body it i their temple. How they take care of their bodies is their business and should be respected by others. No one should be made fun of because of how they look.

"Dojo I understand what you're going through. So why don't you talk to the others about how you feel? Talking usually helps get a load off your chest." I told him.

Right before he could answer, Master Monk Guan entered the room.

"Excuse me, I couldn't help overhearing the two of you." He began. "Dojo, I have traveled the world a dozen times, but Ii have never met a creature as fascinating as you."

"You find me fascinating, how?" Asked Dojo. His mood perked up after that compliment.

"What other creatures can sense the presence of Shen Gong Wu?" Replied Master Monk Guan.

"Yeah your right I am fascinating." Said Dojo loving the praising.

"And you know, there's someone you should meet that would really appreciate your talents." Said Master Monk Guan. "If you don't mind Maxine."

"Understood, private matter between master and dragon. I'll leave you to it." I said. "See you later Dojo. Nice meeting you Master Monk Guan." With a bow and a wave I left the room. Figured it was time to head home. Jackie was probably wondering where I ran off to once he got himself together after all the screaming and whining. Thinking about that made me giggle. That's my brother, an idiot but a funny one.

Arriving home I found Jackie in the backyard playing loud music while working on an ATV, or his version of one. Obviously another new vehicle he had been working on. I walked over to see him fixing one of the tires.

"Hey Jackie, working on another one of your latest vehicles?" I asked.

"Oh hey Maxine, yeah I'm fixing this bad boy up so I can rev up the road." He told me. "As soon as this baby's done we'll take it for a test ride to see how fast it can go."

"Sounds thrilling Jackie." I replied.

Or it would have if Wuya hadn't sensed a new Shen Gong Wu. The Monsoon Sandals had just revealed themselves. Wuya said whoever possessed them would have legs that can stretch for miles. And Jackies said he'd always wanted that which made me roll my eyes. He says that about everything that sounds cool. No point in arguing with him. Jackie said to hop in the ATV. We were heading for the Wu's location immediately before the monks. I got in the seat behind Jack's, buckled up and held on tight as Jack pushed it into high gear.

We were flying down the road. The wind in my hair felt wonderful, but as it hit my face I could hardly keep my eyes open. This would be better if Jackie had installed windows and a roof to this thing. Oh well, at least with the speed we're going we'll be at the location of the Wu in no time; and would you believe that we did arrive at our destination in twenty minutes tops.

Arriving at a beach, Jackie parked near a large rocky mountain near some small tide pools. The Monsoon Sandals were sitting at the bottom of one of the tide pools. I was going to reach in and grab them but Jack stopped me. He instead took a seat in front of the pool and removed his shoes. Ew, that wasn't necessary. My brother's feet stink. Even Wuya was covering her nose. Then I heard a familiar voice.

"Hold it right there. We shall take the Shen Gong Wu if you please." Said Omi who stood just a couple feet away from where we were. He and the others stood on this large rock in these awesome poses; and when the waves crashed against the rock it made the four look twice as cool then usual. I starred in awe till Jack interrupted.

"Go ahead and try. Monsoon Sandals!" Within seconds Jack shot up into the sky. He had to be between twenty-thirty feet high according to the leg length. I looked up at him as he lost his balance and came falling down.

"TIMBER!" I cried out running out of the way. I moved close to the edge of the sand near the ocean. Taking notice of the monks, minus Omi coming out of the water. I didn't turn to look at Jackie till the screaming stopped. To which I saw my brother had not landed hard on the sand but in the arms of a mysterious stranger.

He said his name was Chase Young, and from the look of what he was wearing he was a warrior. The young gentleman wore a suit of armor, had long dark hair, and eyes that looked similar to a cat's. Jackie went on saying that Chase Young was the super greatest evil super villain then stretched his feet in Chase's face. That was a mistake. He was dropped to the ground landing with a hard thud on the sand.

"Really Jackie, really? Why would you offer the Wu when your still wearing it? Nobody wants used Wu. Much less nobody wants your stinking feet in their face." I told him.

"But Maxine its Chase Young. Chase. Young." That was all he had to say to defend himself. Then Wuya flies up to him and Jackie's defending himself again.

As Jackie rolled out of the way I spotted a familiar green reptile hiding behind Chase's boots.

"Dojo?"

Wait why is Dojo with Chase Young? When did that happen? Dojo was with me and then Master Monk Guan came up to us saying...wait a second.

"Dojo!"

Omi interrupted my thoughts as he and the others came running over.

"Where have you been?" Asked Omi.

"We could have missed a lot of Shen Gong Wu with you gone." Said Kimiko.

"Are you sure with my big bones and all it would have just slowed you down?" Dojo argued clearly still upset over what happened earlier. Not that I blame him for that.

"Aw is that why you left? Hey we were only funning with you partner. We didn't mean to hurt your feelings." Said Clay.

"Well, you did." Said Dojo with his head hung high, eyes closed.

"Oh Dojo you can't stay mad at your friends. They're family and families stick together." I chimed in earning an open eye.

"We need you Dojo." Said Kimiko.

"You are a most valuable dragon." Said Omi.

"And most of all, your one of us dude." Said Raimundo.

That earned both eyes open. Those big teary eyes followed by a sudden growth transformation and a big hug. And I do mean a BIG hug. A tight squeeze hug with many tears following behind it. While we were being squeezed Omi asked if Dojo would be returning to the temple. That earned us a sudden drop, a shrinking Dojo who landed on Clay and blew his nose on Clay's bandana.

The tears got worse as Dojo told us he'd been traded and that Master Monk Guan was behind it. That summed up the theory I had been working on. So Master Monk Guan tricked Dojo into going with him and turned him over to Chase Young, but why?

"This cannot be." Started Omi. "Master Monk Guan is far to honorable to engage in such behavior."

"That's where you'd be wrong my naïve young Xiaolin admirer." Came Chase Young as he poured some strange green liquid into a bowl. Releasing this green mist-like smoke into the air indicating how how it was. "Dojo belongs to me now."

"Aw hell no, Dojo is not your property." I told Chase. Clearly upset with what I just heard.

"If you do not surrender Dojo and the Shen Gong Wu at once you will suffer a most humiliating defeat." Came Omi taking a stand up to Chase. The others including myself joined in.

"What are we gonna do fight or sit around and sip tea?" Asked Raimundo.

"Its my special Lao Mang Lone Soup." Chase said taking a sip from the bowl. "I always have a cup before victory." He finished with a smirk.

I watched Omi charge and fight Chase Young with all his strength, but to no avail. Chase didn't even have to look at Omi to fight. He was dodging and blocking every move Omi threw at him like it was nothing. Did I mention his eyes were closed and he didn't move from the spot he stood in. How that was possible was unknown to me. All Ii knew from what I was watching was Omi was making very little progress against Chase Young.

"You fight well for a little one." Chase said while he continued to block Omi's attacks.

"The fact that my center of gravity is low to the ground only makes me more difficult to defeat in battle." Omi said taking a moment before attacking Chase on the other side. Yet he still couldn't hit Chase.

Omi eventually got tired and stopped his attacks. Poor little guy. That took a lot out of him from what I saw. A bowl was thrown at Omi's head causing him to fall to the ground.

"You fight well too." He told Chase. "I mean, as evil geniuses go."

"I've been itching scrap all day." Said Clay cracking his fingers before he, Raimundo and Kimiko ran up to attack Chase Young together.

Call me crazy but I joined them as did Omi after recovering from his fall. I was a tad skeptical about doing this but I'm doing it. I am charging at Chase Young with the monks. Perhaps together we'd stand a better chance. There was no telling how this was going to turn out until Chase jumped out of our collision and the rest of us all crashed head first into each other. We feel on top of each other. Groaning in pain due to the collision I crawled out from under Clay, gave my head a good hand rub then looked up at Chase.

He probably thought he was clever right now. Jumping out of the way before we could touch him. Avoiding an attack before it even came. If my head wasn't killing me I'd give Chase a piece of my mind. I noticed him looking at me for a brief moment. Not sure why he did but he did. Then he turned and began walking away. Course Jack stopped him to offer a partnership to which Chase denied. He had little interest in the Wu. He wanted to observe the monks, nothing more. He left Jack with some wise words before leaving with Dojo.

"I think we made a connection Chase and I." Jack said a loud.

"Ugh...dream on Jackie." I mumbled, rubbing my head some more.

"Anyway let's go home Maxine." Said Jack.

"Ugh you go ahead I'll catch up." I replied. "I need a little time for my head to recover."

Jackie just shrugged and left with Wuya. I sighed, rubbing my head one last time before slowly standing up. My head was still throbbing but not as much as it was a minute ago. The others began standing up. Groaning in pain from the head collision but they would make a full recovery soon enough; but we had bigger problems to worry about. Dojo was still with Chase Young and Master Monk Guan had some explaining to do.

First we had to find Master Monk Guan. Luckily, the monks had a Shen Gong Wu that could fly us around like Dojo. The Silver Manta Ray would be our transportation through the skies. Too find Master Monk Guan and get the answer we seek were key elements to rescue Dojo. We flew around till we spotted the master walking along the beach. Raimundo landed the Manta Ray and we hopped out to confront Guan.

He immediately confessed his sins when Omi questioned him, much to Omi's surprise. Guan told us his story about his fight against Chase Young years ago. The pair were engaged in a battle that lasted for several days till Chase got the upper hand. Stealing Master Monk Guans spear then using it against him. Then Chase Young offered Guan a chance to get it back, but for a price, Dojo.

Omi gave Master Monk Guan advice Master Fung once said.

"What makes a warrior strong is not the weapon, but the warrior holding the weapon."

Guan apologized then showed us where to find Chase Young's palace. Though one question still bugged us. Why did Chase want Dojo? Guan told us how Chase Young was on the side of good, but he traded his soul for a potion that keeps him forever young. Kimiko read the recipe for the potion.

"One cup of wheat grass. One tablespoon of salt. A pinch of dried frog and one whole...(gasp) dragon?"

"He's going to eat Dojo?" I said in shock. "Oh my god we have to save Dojo before its too late!"

We retrieved the directions to Chase Young's palace and left immediately. There was no time to lose. Dojo's life was on the line. Raimundo flew us to the palace which couldn't have been placed in a better location. The palace was on top of his flat mountain. There was this large rock carved out to look like a dark sinister face with fire on the edges and in the eyes. Can you see this as a scene from a horror movie? We walked up to the entrance which was left wide open. As if we were expected.

"We are in luck, Chase Young must have forgotten to close the door behind him." Omi said to us.

"Is that luck or a trap?" Said Raimundo.

"Oh that's a good point." I said.

"Same difference! We shall use our superior fighting skills to protect us." Said Omi throwing out a few fighting stance moves. Which was followed by the door closing behind us, or should I say trapping us inside.

We were left in the dark. Trapped within Chase Young's palace. How we would navigate was anybody's guess. Luckily, we didn't have to stand in the dark for long. Torches lite our path down a long hallway. If that's not convenient I don't know what is. No time to waste. We hurried down the hallway through an opening leading to a room. Right before another door tried to lock us out. We barely made it to the other side. Catching our breathe Kimiko spotted Dojo in the middle of the room. Sitting in a pot with an apple in his mouth. Quickly we ran over to him.

"Dojo! Are you alright?" Asked Omi removing the apple from Dojo's mouth.

"I'm sitting in a pot of soup, what do you think?!" He cried out.

Suddenly, there came the sound of another door closing. Turning around we saw Chase Young standing behind the now closed door that my brother closed. Why am I not surprised? The monks got in position to fight against Chase. I stood next to the pot with Dojo in it. I would offer my support from the sidelines. Maybe things would workout this time around.

Unfortunately I spoke too soon. Chase Young transformed going from kneeling on the floor, releasing a monstrous roar as his muscles grew and his armor broke into pieces as he unleashed his inner beast. This was certainly an unexpected plot twist. Who could have seen this coming?

"Wow, your even more hideous than Wuya, I love it." Said Jack.

"You see before you my true form. Without the benefit of my potion." Said Chase Young in a deep voice.

"I can see why your so faithful to it." Said Dojo.

"No kidding...this explains a lot." I added.

Dojo and I watched as the monks tried using their Shen Gong Wu to fight Chase Young but to no avail. Chase dodged and reflected their attacks back at them. Jackie got caught in the crossfire but that wasn't important. The monks were thrown out of commission which left me with only one other option. I had to step in.

"Hey Chase you wanna play dirty? Come at me lizard boy!" I made the come at me hand signal. He got the idea and charged at me. I charged at him doing a jump kick which got my leg grabbed by Chase's claws. I was spun around then released. Flying into the wall with a hard bang. I slid down on the floor landing next to the others.

"Sorry guys..." I said softly.

"You did your best little lady. We all did." Said Clay.

Just then, Chase Young came up to us.

"Perhaps you'll join me in a bowl of Dojo?"

"I wouldn't celebrate your victory just yet." Came a familiar voice from above, Master Monk Guan.

"Master Monk Guan, I knew you'd come." Said a cheerful Omi.

"How can I resist joining you in fighting the dark forces of evil?" He began. "Chase Young, I challenge you to a showdown."

"A plain old regular showdown? We haven't had one of those in a long time." Said Dojo who quickly silenced himself when Chase Young glared his way.

"No Shen Gong Wu, we use only our martial art skills." Chase told him.

"The wager will be the freedom of Dojo, Maxine, and the young monks." Said Master Monk Guan jumping down from his spot. Landing in front of Chase. Holding his Sphere of Guan.

"And should I prevail you will forever pledge your loyalty to me and join the other fallen warriors who are enslaved in the beasts that serve me." Said Chase pointing to a couple jungle cats who made an appearance through these open windows.

"You'll turn him into a big cat? Oh you are so cutting edge!" Said Jack who immediately shut up with the apple after Chase's weapon popped out to make it longer.

The two masters prepared themselves, said the words Gong Yi Tempi and the showdown began. Both masters went at each other with no hesitation. The best way to describe what I'm seeing would be something like this. Think of your favorite action or kung Fu movie where you have the hero and the villain fighting each other. They throw a few punches and kicks couple of dodges and some high jumps. The pair were both skillful but Chase got the upper hand when he got behind Guan and knocked him down. Guan slide close to where we were sitting and almost fell in this ring of fire when Chase pushed a lever down.

And if that wasn't bad enough Chase got on top of Guan. His foot was pushing Guan close to the fire opening. Jackie was being an ass chanting 'Loser Guan' a couple times. Things weren't looking good for Guan. I was afraid he'd be pushed over the edge to his doom had he not used his sphere to get Chase to back off. Fire blew up causing the rest of us to shield ourselves. Luckily the flames died down so we could see again. Guan was back on his feet, ready to fight.

"You can not defeat me. Eeven the sphere of Guan won't save you." Said Chase.

"What makes a warrior strong is not the weapon." Said Guan leaping over Chase Young before landing near the pot. "But the warrior holding the weapon." He finished.

Omi gave a thumbs up when he hear that. I gave Omi a thumbs up back in satisfaction. Guan laid down his weapon. He would continue to fight Chase Young without his sphere. Chase joined in leaving his own weapon behind as the pair continued to fight. They were evenly matched. Neither could land a punch on the other. Least till Chase got the upper hand punch Guan back into a wall. Guan hit the wall hard and was falling toward the ground. This looked to be it but it couldn't be. It couldn't end this way.

The monks and I stood up. Guess we all were feeling the same thing. Guan was closing in on the floor. Chase and Jack were eager to see him crash to the ground, but he didn't. He landed on his feet, leaped into the air, spun around and attacked Chase. Things were starting to look up till Chase pushed down another lever which made a circular round of mirrors pop up. A maze of mirrors. Made it hard to see but we could see some movement followed by a bright light. The mirrors cracked at the same time as an object flew round. The mirrors came down, Master Monk Guan was on fire, literally, smoke was coming off his body. We got clearance to cross over.

I thought it was over, but the jungle cats jumped down and surrounded us. This looked to be it, but Chase Young stopped them.

"No! I accepted their challenge and lost. They're free to go."

The jungle cats backed away. Leaving the room, leaving us.

"I'm certain that our paths will cross again." Said Chase bowing.

"As I too am certain." Said Omi bowing back.

We were free to go and go we went. I heard the door close behind us followed by Dojo hurrying to catch up with us. I stopped to help carry Dojo out. He was a heavy little dragon but I've held puppies who were heavier than him. Once we got outside we thanked Guan for saving us. Dojo especially. Gave Guan a hug before letting go. The master thanked Omi for his encouragement and as a token of his appreciation gave Omi his Sphere of Guan then disappeared.

Done!
