A Xiaolin Showdown Story

Maxine Spicer's Xiaolin Adventure's

Chapter 9

Screams of the Siren

~Maxine's POV~

I have so much to tell but don't know where to begin. Supposedly, the best place to begin any tale is at the beginning, or in my case explain what happened last time. That being back after the snowman incident. Let me explain, I had told my brother Jack that I was going to stay at the Xiaolin Temple to learn discipline and increase my fighting skills. Part of me knew I could do better then what I've been currently doing. Besides, I'm tired standing on the sidelines while Jack does something stupid. Its not like he needs me around when he's got his robots and the old hag.

Jack tried convincing me to stay with him. Complaining and whining about the monks being losers and how I would be wasting my time staying with them. Why should I waste my talents fighting against the forces of evil when I could contribute? But I explained to Jack that I was done with his evil schemes. I would have no part in his mayhem or destruction against the monks. I've grown to like them. If Jackie couldn't understand that then he wasn't worth my time. He didn't take things well. Trying his hardest not to cry as he flew back home with Wuya by his side. Part of me felt sorry for doing this to Jackie but the other part of me had no regrets. Hell, mom and dad were just fine with me staying at the temple. They thought some physical labor would do me good. Build character and grow they said. They tried getting Jackie to join me but Jackie refused and immediately turned off the phone.

The monks and Master Fung welcomed me with open arms to the temple. They were more then glad to have me join them in the fight against the forces of evil. Least that's what Omi told me. Soon as Jackie sent the Jackbots over with my stuff, Kimiko and I worked on setting up my room. Got my own little space next to her room. Set up some little furniture, put away my clothes, laid out my personal belongings, and soon my room was set up to my liking. Nothing special but it was my own private quarters, all mine. Master Fung presented me with my own Xiaolin robes. Now I'm officially a Xiaolin monk. Not quite apprentice level like everyone else but I'll get there. It will take time but I'm a patient person. There's no need to rush.

That should about cover my story. Now I can explain what happened sometime after I moved into the temple. Dojo had sensed a new Shen Gong Wu called The Gills of Hamachi. Whoever possessed this Wu would have the ability to breathe underwater. Too find the Wu we had to travel to the icy cold tundra where glaciers stood tall and strong in the water. It was a beautiful sight to behold. Made me almost forget the cold breeze blowing at my face. Luckily, Dojo landed leaving us to wander the area in search of the Wu. Luckily, we didn't need to look far. Omi spotted the Wu and immediately ran after it. Except Jack showed up for the Wu and the two got a Xiaolin Showdown going on.

At first Jackie had the upper hand thanks to those figure skating lessons mom made him take. And to think he thought it was useless and made a robot out of her juicer. Guess someone owes mom an apology later. As Jack leaped in the air Dojo and Clay had these comments to say.

"Jack Spicer sure has nice form." Said Dojo.

"Woo lookie there triple side cow." Said Clay earned looks from all four of us. "What, cowboys can't like figure skating?"

"Didn't know you were into that Clay." I said turning back to the Showdown.

"Come on Omi! Just because your pinned like a hockey puck doesn't mean you have to stay like one!" Raimundo cried out.

"Jack Spicer, your fancy spinning may impress the crowd but it will not it will not get the Gils of Hamachi." Said Omi jumping into action.

Jack skated from one ice burg to the next with flawless grace. This showdown wasn't a big deal for him. It was child's play compared to what I usually see Jack take part of. He skated up to the largest ice burg which had the Wu on top. Jack used the Jetbootsu to walk up the icy cliff. Not wasting anymore time, Omi used the Orb of Tornami as a rocket jet toward the ice burg. Jackie was stalling, admiring the Wu in front of him. While Omi blasted his way over then destroyed the ice burg in an instant. Grabbing the Wu and claiming the win.

"My friends with this Shen Gong Wu we will be able to breathe underwater." Omi told us but his attention was soon drawn towards something or someone else.

Floating in the water was a girl. She was unconscious and half her body was trapped in an ice block that floated with her in it. Raimundo suggested somebody going in the water to help her. He got his reply when he was pushed in the freezing water.

"Maybe Clay should be the one to save her. He's got more body fat." Said Raimundo earning himself a head dunk from an unhappy Clay.

"Your head makes a better floatation device now use it." Clay told him sending Raimundo swimming up to the girl.

As soon as Raimundo reached the girl he chopped the ice block freeing said captive; however, he uncovered what was actually hidden within the ice. Instead of legs the girl had a fish tail. That girl was no human. She was a mermaid, a real live mermaid.

None of us could believe what we were seeing. Who would have guessed that a mermaid was frozen in the ice and alive. I could tell by the way her tail waved side-to-side. The mermaid introduced herself as Dyris. She thanked Rai for freeing her from that ice block; but she wasn't the only who was free from the ice burg. More ice crumbled and broke apart. Releasing a mysterious and slightly creepy looking man. The look on his face told me he was a man on a mission. One where he had his eyes set on Dyris.

He held out a hand that activated a gizmo releasing four flying explosive balls at her. Clay stopped it with the Glove of Gesoco but now the explosives were heading towards him. Quickly I activated the Juju Flytrap sending off a swarm of bees to stop the explosives from getting to Clay. He was safe but said hunter was on the move. He tried attacking Dyris but Rai blew him back with the Sword of the Storm. Then the unexpected happened when one of the Jackbots grabbed and took the hunter away with my brother.

Dyris told us that the hunters name was Klofange, a mermaid hunter who had been chasing her for as long as she could remember. Trapped in ice and time after an avalanche froze the pair. Now she was alone. The last of her kind. The boys and Dojo felt bad for her and wanted to help. Coming up with the idea to bring Dyris back to the temple with us. Dojo offered her a ride but Dyris claimed she couldn't leave the water. Strange, I've read books about mermaids and they were able to leave the water. Its not like they dried out within seconds leaving the water. Of course that's just from books. Dyris was the real thing. So Omi came up with an idea.

Using the Orb of Tornami Dojo's mouth was filled with water to carry Dyris back to the temple. Rai assured Dyris that Dojo brushed his teeth and Omi gave his Orb to her so she wouldn't dry out. Dyris flirted back with the boys annoying Kimiko and myself. The boys were acting ridiculous and for what, a pretty girl who's got a fish tail? Honestly, men can be total idiots when in the presence of a pretty girl.

~Normal POV~

At Jack's House, Klofange was putting his weapons on a large table. Wuya was asking questions about what each weapon did to which Klofang told her to mind her own business and leave him be. Jack complimented the man on his skills and wanted to hunt Wu with him but Klofang had no need for Wu. The mermaid was the only prize on his mind. He had Jack trapped in this tight grip spear when he talked about getting Dyris. To save himself, Jack said he might know where to find her before passing out from lack of oxygen.

~Maxine's POV~

I was sitting outside on the steps of the temple reading a book. Occasionally peaking up to look at Dyris, who was basking in the sunlight (what was left of it) and the cool water in the pool. She was certainly comfy. Just because she's a mermaid doesn't make her that special. I must have focused on her longer than I realized because Kimiko walked up to confront Dyris which snapped me back to reality. I put down my book to watch and listen to the conversation.

"Oh...Kimiko." Dyris said looking away.

"I just want you to know unlike some warriors I don't totally lose it over a pretty face." Kimiko told Dyris.

"Of course not." Began Dyris looking at Kimiko. "There's a word for people like that, boys." Surprisingly Kimiko laughed at that. "But you already knew that. Your much prettier then I am."

"No, think so?" Asked Kimiko.

Please tell me she's not actually falling for this?

"Absolutely, it doesn't take a genius to get boys to do what you want. Want to give it a try?" Dyris told her.

Please tell me Kimiko's not going to go through with this?

My attention was drawn to Omi from the corner of my eye. He was happily walking, minding his own business when Kimiko called him over and let me just say I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

"What is it Kimiko?" Omi asked upon reaching Kimiko.

Kimiko spoke is a soft but whinny cute voice to Omi. "Its my turn to clean out Dojo's litter box. Could you do that for me?" She fluttered her eyelashes and put on a sweet smile.

"But should you not be doing your own chores?" Omi pointed out.

He's not going to fall for it.

"My arms are so tired and your are so strong." Kimiko replied squeezing Omi's arm.

"Oh...yes." Omi admired his arms.

Oh my goodness he might be falling for this.

"If you...uh...I could...uh I will clean at once!" Omi shouted running inside to clean Dojo's litter box.

Son of a gun it worked. Kimiko got Omi to do her chore by sweet talking and complimenting him. I am shocked, dumbfounded, stunned, speechless. I can't believe that actually worked. Great, now Kimiko's fallen for Dyris. So much for us girl's sticking together.

~Normal POV~

Unbeknownst to the girl's, Jack, Wuya, and Klofange were watching from a far on a mountain. Klofang complimented Jack for doing good by finding the mermaid for him. Through his telescope, Klofang spoke of how he'd rid the world of the mermaid and anyone who stood in his way.

~Normal POV~

Night had fallen throughout the land, crickets chirped their sweet harmonic sounds, all was peaceful at the temple. The monks were walking in different directions through the temple grounds. Each one with a little spring in their steps. Eyes shut, not paying full attention to where they were going until they all collided into each other. They got into fighting stance but chilled out when they realized whom they bumped into.

Omi was bringing Dyris some more water.

Raimundo offered to handle it because he was bringing a couple of sponges to her.

Clay thought Dyris could use a midnight snack and was bringing her some fresh fish.

Kimiko just asked them if they were feeling the weirdness.

Maxine rolled her eyes and crossed her arms saying there was more then weirdness going around.

Suddenly, the roof of one of the temple structures was lite a blaze and destroyed. Jack popped out from the smoke with Wuya and several Jackbots.

"Oh tell me he was watching that?" Said a hopeful Jack looking around.

"Focus Jack! Worry about your special friend later." Wuya told him.

Jack snapped back to reality, straightened up and gave the order for his Jackbots to attack. The monks scattered avoiding the sudden attack from the bots. Kimiko pointed out that a head-on attack wasn't Jack's style and Clay and Maxine agreed. This was Jack Spicer they were talking about. The guy's never this well coordinated. Not unless someone was telling him what to do.

Omi and the others soon spotted Klofang leaping on the rooftops of the temple. Making his way to the pool where Dyris was which meant that she was in great danger. The boys started arguing and fighting each other over who would go to save Dyris. Too stop the fighting Kimiko and Maxine offered to stay back and fight the robots while all three boys went to help Dyris. The boys ran off immediately and Kimiko began her attack in the air. Unleashing her inner fire on the robots.

Maxine helped in her own way on the ground. Throwing many different kick moves and punches at the bots that came her way. Kicking them back into the wall(s). Throwing them hard against the wall(s). Jumping and throwing punches at them. And while the girl's fought the bots, the boys hurried to the pool. Picking up the pace while arguing over which of them would save her.

They eventually reached Klofang who was well focused on reaching Dyris. He would stop at nothing to reach his goal. Easily taking down Omi with a net gun, Raimundo with this rope trap, and Clay was knocked out by a statue. Just when Klofang was about to strike he quickly found out that Duris was gone.

"The mermaid be gone!"

"But how is that possible? How could she travel out of water?" Asked Omi still in the net that Raimundo held.

"There be your lady." Said Klofang pointing to the stone path where small puddles of water laid. Indicating Dyris must have climbed out of the pool and dragged herself out, but what came as a surprise was the sight of long clawed feet.

"A monster, perhaps the most dangerous this world has ever seen." Klofang said striking a pose. Not really, he just held out his sphere in front of him when he spoke.

Jack flew in and heard what Klofang said.

"Whoa, whoa rewind! If she's a monster that means your uh...uh good guy?" Jack was besides himself. "But I...you...need alone time." And just like that Jack flew off.

"I knew there was something fishy about that girl." Maxine said to no one in particular.

Wanting a better understanding of the situation the monks invited Klofang inside the temple to explain his own story.

"Yes, I hunts her like she says, but its to keep her from destroying the lot of us." He said. Explaining how Dyris wasn't to be trusted. Wanting to flood the planet making it her undersea lair. Though a beauty in the water it was when she was on land that revealed her true monstrous form.

As if things couldn't get anymore shocking, Dojo came in shouting 'We were robbed!' to everyone in the room. He brought them immediately to the vault saying Dyris bagged three Shen Gong Wu, the Tunnel Armadillo, the Golden Tiger Claws, and Fist of Tebugone.

"How did she know about the vault?" Omi asked.

"Um I may have mentioned it to her but she said she never saw one before." Clay confessed. "But wasn't a monk there guarding it?"

"She kind of got me to convince one of the boys to hand scrub all the bathrooms." Kimiko confessed.

"She had me fill the Armadillo with sea water. I figured it was just a rebel prank." Raimundo confessed.

"Now it all makes sense. Dyris wanted to know which Shen Gong Wu would have the power to create giant volcanos to melt the polar ice caps and flood the world." Omi said earning him some angry glares. "I assumed it was mild chat chit."

"Hmm are you sure you lot are the good guys?" Klofang asked, suspicious after hearing the monks confessions.

"Don't look at me I had nothing to do with any of this." Maxine said.

"You are the only one who did not fall for Dyris trickery Maxine." Said Omi.

"Yeah but Dyris would still have to drill close enough to the Earth's core to set off an earthquake. No one could withstand the heat."

It was at the moment that Dojo mentioned the latest Shen Gong Wu, the Black Beetle. It coats its owner in a heat resistant body armor and Dojo confessed to telling Dyris where she could find it. Maxine slapped herself on the forehead and Klofang almost broke the desk holding the scroll. To make up for their mistakes, Omi offered his and the other monks service in tracking down Dyris.

It wasn't long before everyone found themselves sailing through the Arctic Ocean on Dojo. Who had magically transformed himself into a boat.

"Last stop Arctic Ocean! Home of the Black Beetle and a common cold." Said Dojo letting out a sneeze.

"So where is it?" Asked Kimiko.

"The Wu is less than a mile that way." Dojo replied pointing down at the water.

"Remember our foe is very slippery, very evil, and very, very pretty." Said Omi getting lost in the thought when calling Dyris pretty.

"Omi.." Said Kimiko.

"I better go with him so he stays focused." Said Maxine stepping up to stand and hold Omi by the shoulder. "Okay Omi, let's find the Wu before Dyris does."

"Yes, Gills of Hamachi!" Omi cried out putting the Wu on his neck making him and Maxine glow and change into fish-like creatures.

Together, the two monk fish dove into the water. Swimming down through the water where a sunken ship laid in ruin. Omi and Maxine found an opening in the ship, and could hear a sweet melodic voice calling their names. A bright glow grabbed Omi's attention. Swimming towards where he saw the shine with Maxine behind him.

"The Black Beetle." Said Omi reaching out to grab it but was stopped when Dyris called his name. Appearing right behind him and Maxine.

"I hope you didn't believe all the terrible things that man said about me." She said swimming towards Omi.

"Stay back!" Cried Maxine getting in front of Omi. "Omi don't believe a word she says. She's the evil one here. She wants to flood the planet. Don't fall for her charm Omi, she's a monster."

"Oh but I'm not a monster Maxine. I just want to be left alone. Is that too much to ask?" Dyris asked sweetly.

Obviously Maxine wasn't going to fall for this but Omi was falling under her spell. He swam in front of Maxine all lovey-dovey as Dyris stroked his cheek lovingly.

"She...you...I...I believe you." Said Omi to Dyris.

"Mmm that's a shame, you shouldn't." Dyris grabbed the Gills of Hamachi pulling them off of his neck turning Omi and Maxine back to normal. The pair quickly held their breathe since they couldn't breathe underwater anymore. "Neither of you belong in my world. Time to say goodbye."

With a flip of her tail, Dyris kicked Omi and Maxine through the worn out wooden board of the ship. Sending them floating in the water while she swam away with all the Wu in her hold.

"I warn you I can hold my breathe a very long time!" Cried Omi covering his mouth instantly. "Except when I'm talking." Covering his mouth again followed by coughing.

Maxine swam up to him and covered him mouth with one of her own hands while using the other to grab Omi's shirt and start swimming to the surface. She didn't swim for long when the bright lights of the Silver Mantra Ray shun on the pair. Scooping them up, bringing them inside where the pair coughed out water and caught their breathe.

"Did you get the Black Beetle?" Kimiko asked with the look of hope in her eyes.

"Seriously? Seriously?! We almost drowned and your asking if we got the Black Beetle?!" Maxine shouted at Kimiko. "Does it look like we got the Black Beetle?!"

"Actually it looks like you guys lost the Gills of Hamachi." Raimundo threw out.

"You can thank Omi for that. Mister big talk fell for that fishes sweet talk." Said Maxine giving Omi a look.

"I assure you I will not be defeated by a fish! Ever a very pretty fish." Said Omi.

"I mark her on your starburt." Said Klofang earning confused looks from everyone but Maxine.

"Its boat talk for on your right you guys. Look too your right." She told the others who turned and saw Dyris swimming back to the Armadillo.

Quickly Rai sped the Manta Ray to catch up with Dyris and he would have caught her and Jack Spicer not attacked. Through video talk Jack claimed he was on the right or rather the wrong side and wanted to help Dyris. Maxine told Jack how Dyris was a monster trying to flood the Earth but Jack didn't care. He was submitted by her beauty. Figures, another sick love puppy hooked, lined, and baited.

He then sent his Sharkbots to attack the Silver Manta Ray and the bots began to eat at the wings. Klofang banged on the window demanding he be released, but Omi stopped him. Saying it was his fault Dyris had slipped away and took what belonged to him. Using the Serpents Tail he flew off in Dyris direction. Knocking her away from the Armadillo's controls, reclaiming the Gills of Hamachi but activating the Tunnel Armadillo in the process.

Meanwhile, the Silver Manta Ray was still under attack by the Sharkbots. Had it not been for Clay's quick thinking using the Glove of Gesacu followed by the Reversing Mirror everyone would have been a goner. Now instead of attacking the Silver Manta Ray the Sharkbot went to attack Jack's squid sub. Had Jack not hit the eject button he would have been the goner.

Back with Omi he was fighting or trying to fight Dyris before the pair went after the Tunnel Armadillo. Crashing to the surface of the ice Omi and Dyris both touched the Black Beetle at the same time. Triggering a Xiaolin Showdown.

"I'll wager my Fist of Tebugone against your Gills of Hamachi." Dyris said.

"The game is steal the Wu. Whoever takes the others Wu first wins, and we play it on dry land!" Omi told her.

"You fool! You can't let her out of the water!" Cried Klofang who appeared with the others after surfacing. "When on dry land she turns to her true monstrous form!"

"How bad can she be?" Omi asked soon meeting with a monstrous fish slug like scoundrel that was the mermaid not too long ago. "Oh that bad. Let's go, Xiaolin Showdown!"

Omi and Dyris were standing opposite sides of each other. Dyris got the lead flicking Omi back into an ice column. When Omi slid back to get the Wu, Dyris punched him making him fly in the air with the Gill of Hamachi. Which landed perfectly on Omi's neck making him call their name and transform. That probably wasn't the smartest move because he was a regular fish out of water. Dyris grabbed Omi and was about to grab the Gills when Omi summoned a geyser of water from an opening in the ice below.

He flipped back as the water hit Dyris right in the face. Reverting her back into her mermaid form. Omi used the water to glide on, grab the Fist of Tebugone, give Dyris a little kiss on the nose and win the Showdown. The gang congratulated him on a job well done.

"Yes, girl's are very easy to fool." Omi said making Maxine and Kimiko annoyed and angry. "I mean pretty girl's." Still not helping. "Pretty mermaid girls?" Now he'd done it.

"You'd made a fine beast hunter." Said Klofang.

"And you a noble Xiaolin Dragon. Perhaps we could-" Said Omi being cut off by Dyris who rose ready to attack.

Klofang jumped in attacking Dyris. Making the caverns shaking and the ground quake. Omi tried to jump in but Klofang stopped him. This is how it had to be. Quickly the monks got out of the ice burg on the Silver Manta Ray just as everything came crushing down.

"Farewell brave warrior." Said Omi looking out the window and Rai drove.

What happened to Klofang and Dyris? Who could really say. Their fates were sealed in a sudden flash as the ice and snow came crashing down upon them. Perhaps Klofang defeated Dyris and got away but one thing was certain, Dyrs wouldn't be flooding the world anytime soon.

On a lighter note Jack was floating on a large piece of what was left of his ship. Stranded, all alone, he would had gone crazy had the monks not stopped by while flying home.

"Hey Jack, need a lift?" Kimiko asked him.

"Oh Kimiko," Began Jack climbing up onto the wing. "Thank you, thank..." He was silenced when Clay tied Jack in his rope.

"She didn't say you could ride with us." Said Clay.

That's right, Jack was left hanging on the rope outside of the Silver Manta Ray. His stomach hitting the cold water every so often. He did manage to get onto his feet but tripped on a small ice block landing on his head.

And...Done!
