Summary: Francis and Max have a little chat.
Challenge: Response to Lisa's ABC/10 minute challenge and her challenge to use the line "Can I ask you a question?"
"Can I ask you a question, Francis?" Max asked as he carefully sat down on the bed.
"Certainly, Max. Ask anything you want," replied his lover, having a good idea what kind of questionhe was about to be asked, if not the exact subject.
"What's going on between us?" Max stated, playing with a loose thread on Mulcahy's bed.
"What do you mean, exactly, Max," the blonde-haired man asked, seeking clarification.
"You know, what's really going on between us, is this just a casual thing or…," the younger man said, trailing off. He was scared; he really didn't know how his lover was going to react to the question he planned to ask him. He knew it wouldn't be a violent reaction, but rejection was worse then violence. He had imagined different outcomes of this talk and all of them ended with him wishing that Francis would just hit him.
"Or are we serious?" Francis said, finishing the other man's train of thought. When he received no answer, he continued. "I'd rather hoped that we are," the blonde said, picking his words carefully. He reached out and gently grasped Klinger's chin between this thumb and forefinger, tilting the head up to meet his eyes. "What do you think?" The only response he got was lips being pressed against his and a hand running down his side, coming to rest on his hip. Francis broke the kiss off, resting his head against Max's forehead.
"Can I ask you a question?" Without waiting for a response, he continued "Do you love me?" Max pulled back slightly, looking into Francis's eyes, waiting for a response. When he got none, he sighed dejectedly, got up and made his way to the door. However, he didn't get very far, considering that the other man had grabbed his wrist and pulled him back gently. Max waited for a moment, keeping his back turned to the other man. He didn't have to wait long though, since he was gently pulled to face the other way.
"I do love you," Francis said gently. "You shocked me, out of all the questions that you could have asked, you asked the one that I least expected," the Father said, answering the unasked question. "I have a question for you though, Max." Without missing a beat, he continued, "Do you love me?" The only response that he got was lips pressed against his, hard, and handspushing him back towards the bed.
