Chapter 1:

Thud!

"AHHHHHH!"

Yasmina sighed and glared slightly at the person next to her, "Really Sammy, that was just Ben falling off the chair in his sleep."

Ben looked up from his spot on the ground, "But I fell asleep on the ground."

Darius gained a blank look to his face, "Uhhhhhhhhhh?"

Brooklynn looked pensively up to the bridge of the ship, "Kenji, please say that it was you."

Kenji gulped and shook his head, "Uh-uh..."

They all stared at the deck beneath their feet and Darius asked, "Did we store anything important down there?"

Ben shook his head, "That is where i stored the extra gas, everything else is in the mid-deck cabin."

Darius breathed a sigh of relief, "Phew, that is good. Hey Kenji, can we talk?"

Kenji remained silent and resolutely stared ahead. Darius winced, hoping Kenji would forgive him soon enough. All of them had come entirely too close to death too many times and Darius, the unofficial leader, had basically "accepted" that not all of them would be making it off the island. Brooklynn herself had accepted her fate at that time, and Darius had seen it in her eyes and "almost" viewed her request to keep the laptop out of Wu's hands as her dying wish.

Darius turned to her, "Brooklynn I..."

Brooklynn held up her hand, "Don't you dare say it. I knew what I was doing."

"But..."

"No."

"But..."

Brooklynn glared at him, "No!"

Darius sighed and walked towards the prow of the ship. Everyone looked after him with sad and solemn faces. They all understood Kenji and Brooklynn's stances, and unfortunately poor Darius was caught in between them.

They watched Darius in silence for an uncomfortable amount of time, trying to think of something to say. He eventually turned back towards them, "Come on guys, lets just go back to sleeping. We can deal with whatever it is when we get to the mainland."

They all lay down and just as one of them was about to say something Kenji called out from the bridge, "Don't anyone say we finally made it, because that is just asking for trouble."

Everyone rather sheepishly looked at each other, and then they all did their best to fall asleep to the sound of the waves hitting the boat.

Darius started awake, seeing a massive shoreline stretching out as far as he could see before them. The engine was cut and Kenji was sleeping next to them with the anchor thrown overboard to hold them in place. Darius went to the prow of the boat again and looked at the shoreline. He could see a pretty big doc off to one side, though it was clear that it had seen better days.

Kenji spoke up from behind him, "I figured everyone could use some more rest before we actually made land fall."

Darius nodded, "And we are sure this is Costa Rica?"

Kenji shrugged, "Took the right amount of time to get here, so I should hope so, if not we can just get the spare gas, fill her up and head out of here."

Darius sighed, "Kenji, I..."

Kenji, like Brooklynn begore him, held up his hand, "Don't, Darius, just like Brooklynn, I knew what I was doing. What I was doing could have put maybe thousands of lives in danger, but what I care about are our lives in the here and now."

Brooklynn spoke up from behind them both, "That is really sweet of both of you, but Darius, even your plan was doomed to fail."

Darius and Kenji both turned to look at her with wide eyes, "What!?"

Brooklynn nodded, "Even if you had deleted all the data on the hard-drive of the computer it could still be recovered through some special techniques that I am sure Wu had access to. It would have been a minor setback for him at best."

Darius and Kenji looked at each other in shock, "So..."

Brooklynn shook her head at them, "So you can stop the cold war and be friends again."

Darius and Kenji looked at each other in remorse but Kenji said, "That isn't all this was about. He took a risk with a friends life, and I care more about your lives than lives of strangers."

Brooklynn sighed and rolled her eyes, "You think he is any different?"

Darius made himself look as small as possible, "I think I might be?"

The others made it known that they were awake as well with a shouted, "What!?"

Darius winced and started crying, "I have become so used to death... I think... I was viewing Brooklynn's... request... as a last request. That is why I came up... with the plan that I did."

Kenji's eyes widened, "A way to honor her request and save her at the same time."

Darius recognized the statement for what it was and nodded, Kenji's eyes saddened as he reached down to touch Darius' shoulder, wincing at the flinch the action caused, "Just don't do it again, dude."

Ben looked over at the dock, "Hey guys let's just get over to that dock. While we get the supplies off and figure out how to get rid of whatever dinosaur is below deck, you two can go look for civilization together."

Kenji nodded and Darius put his game face on, "Sounds like a plan, Ben. Are ready... Captain Kenj?"

Kenji gave a very small and sad smile, "After you, Dino Nerd."

Brooklynn rolled her eyes as the two stood there for a few moments not moving, "Well... We can't exactly get to the dock unless you are at your post and we get the anchor pulled up, Kenji."

Ben hopped up, "I'm on it."

He moved towards the back of the boat as everyone moved towards their posts. He started to get ready to pull the anchor and then noticed something creating a wake off in the distance. His eyes widened upon realizing that it was too large to be a shark.

Ben quickly yelled up, "Kenji, get the boat started! We have incoming!"

The others ran to the back of the boat to take a look as Kenji started the boat. One look and they instantly knew what it was. They started yanking on the chain of the anchor in desperation. The wake was getting closer and speeding up.

The engine started and Kenji was about to hit the button to start bringing up the anchor when something large hit the bottom of the boat with a thud. He looked on the sonar screen and saw that the mosasaur was chasing something which had hit the boat. He gunned the throttle, but it was unfortunately too late. An even larger crash impacted the bottom of the boat causing the anchor's attachment to the boat to break off and go flying, almost hitting Ben in the head.

Kenji yelled down, "Everyone grab what stuff you can, we are going to have to make a flying leap onto the dock. That water Dino just put a large hole in the bottom of our boat."

Everyone scrambled to get some of their stuff. Ben managed to grab their clothes and everyone else managed to grab some of the food and water. Kenji pulled up to the dock when the ship was close to going under and everyone but Sammy made the leap near perfectly. He hopped down and helped push her onto the dock and then scrambled to get up as the still moving ship went under and slammed into one of the posts along the pier. Everyone lay there for a few seconds before they started laughing in relief and exhilaration.

Kenji leaped up, "Take that Dinos, you thought you could pull one over on us and get us! Think again!"

Sammy leaped up and jumped around a little bit, "Woohoo!"

Ben sighed in a mixture of happiness and sadness, "I hope Bumpy will be okay with her new family."

Yasmina put her hand on Ben's shoulder, "She is with her family, the same as we are about to be."

Darius smiled, "Just think guys, our families will be so happy to see us."

Brooklynn smirked, "And we will have access to technology and warm baths again."

Darius sighed happily, "Let's see if we can't find some... uh-oh!"

Everyone glared at him and Yasmina asked, "What?"

Darius shakily pointed to the boat, and everyone saw five small dinosaurs crawling out of it and swimming towards the underside of the dock, "Troodon!"

Kenji raised an eyebrow, "The what now?"

Yasmina's eyes widened in recognition, "A poisonous dinosaur cloned during the days of the original park. It killed multiple people after the park went down and it used some of their bodies as nests."

The others gave her looks except for Darius and Kenji, who both said at the same time, "Theme Park deaths."

Yasmina nodded, "I like reading about them."

Ben dryly commented, "You went to the right park then."

Sammy scooted a little ways away from the edge, "What are we going to do?"

Darius' eyes hardened, "We can't let such a dangerous dinosaur make landfall here in Costa Rica."

Everyone was surprised when Sammy of all people said, "I don't like it, but I agree."

Yasmina gave her a concerned look, "Sammy, are you...?"

Sammy nodded, "I am sure. I don't want anyone to have to go through what I did with the Scorpius."

Darius kept an eye on the Troodons, "They aren't good swimmers at all. We just need to hit them over the head hard enough so they sink and drown."

Brooklynn picked up an old rusted boat hook lying on the dock, "Will this work?"

Darius blinked and nodded, "Scrounge around for other things, quickly!"

Ben found an old harpoon that was longer than was probably necessary for things like that. Darius, Sammy, and Yasmina all found paddles that were in various states of disrepair and Kenji grabbed a very long pole. They almost dove to where the Troodons were attempting to get onto the dock post so they could clamber up to where the campers were.

Kenji whacked one on the top of the head where its eyes were and listened to its gurgling screech as it screamed in the water, "This really doesn't feel good."

Brooklynn stabbed a Troodon in the back and held it under water, "It is necessary though."

Darius nodded as he and Sammy both kept smacking them in the head with the large flat paddles, "Yeah, letting these things loose in Costa Rica would be bad news."

Yasmina growled as she held the one she was hitting underwater, "How did these things even survive?"

Darius grimaced as his and Sammy's Troodon finally went under concussed enough that it didn't come back up again spewing water, "My guess is these were on ice like the Scorpius Rex was, and instead of remaining on the island they hitched a ride with us."

Kenji held his Troodon's head under water, "What is it with Wu and them either being big or being poisonous?"

Ben shrugged as he stabbed his Troodon in the heart, "The park memo was 'bigger, scarier, more teeth.' My mom showed it to me before I came to camp."

Yasmina raised her eyebrow as she left her Troodon where it was slowly sinking, very much dead, "Did she think that would encourage you to come?"

Ben shrugged again as he none too gently pulled the harpoon out of his dead Troodon, "I don't know."

Kenji groaned, "Since you are done with yours, could you help me with mine?"

Brooklynn turned away from her Troodon that had released its last bubbles and grinned, "Why not just drop another Gadi on it?"

Kenji snapped at her causing Ben and Yasmina to back up, "Just be glad I care more about my friends than my dad's junk!"

Ben's eyes narrowed in confusion as everyone else reeled back in shock, "What is your issue?"

Kenji sighed, "It is just... I just hoped..."

Darius nodded in realization, "That we wouldn't have to deal with anymore Dinosaurs once we escaped from Jurassic World."

Kenji nodded, "Yeah, I am just wondering when the running for our lives is finally going to end."

Darius pondered it for a second and then turned to the others, "Can you keep an eye out here for any other surprises while me and Kenji go look for other humans?"

Kenji grinned tiredly at Darius, "That hopefully speak English and won't want to feed us to some giant Anaconda or something."

Darius set the paddle down as Yasmina grinned and said, "We got this, any more Dinos that poke their heads up from the wreck are going to get it from us."

Brooklynn nodded, "Good luck."

Sammy practically bounced up and down as Darius and Kenji started to walk away, "Ohhh! I can't wait ta see my family again."

Ben grinned, "I know what you mean. Is that a Compy?"

Yasmina spun around and saw the rat-like Dino standing there looking at them curiously, "Should we kill it?"

Sammy vehemently shook her head, "It is just a little Compy, let's capture it and keep it as a pet."

Ben rolled his eyes, "With what cage?"

Yasmina pointed towards shore, "What about that bucket?"

Sammy grinned, "That could work."

Dave sat down with a sigh, "We are getting nowhere."

Roxy glared at him, "We saw that they had activated the beacon months ago, but no... per the wishes and directives of Ingen and the Costa Rican government no one is allowed to go back and mount a rescue operation."

Brandon Bowman sighed at the interplay between the two former counselors, "Calm down."

Roxy rounded on him, "How can I calm down, it is due to my stupidity that the kids whose lives were placed in our hands are currently stuck on an island filled with killer Dinosaurs."

Dave held up his hands, "To be fair, I didn't try all that hard to stop you."

Brandon rolled his eyes, "And if you say it a little louder everyone in the Café will know why we are here."

Roxy sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose, "And why are we here?"

Brandon nodded to the two of them, "Because you two are the only ones still of the opinion that they might be alive and willing to listen to what I heard from a friend in the military."

Roxy and Dave sat forward in their seats, and Roxy asked, "What did you hear?"

Brandon held out a photo that was a little grainy, "A boat was caught on Satellite surveillance leaving the vicinity of Isla Nublar. Estimation of six or seven people on board. All too small to be normal sized adults."

Dave grinned, "So they were headed away from the island, that is good news... right?"

Roxy sighed, "There is always bad news, so what is it?"

Brandon nodded, "They somehow managed to get turned around and instead of heading towards the mainland in the east they are heading almost due west."

Roxy sighed, "Towards Isla Sorna and the other five deaths."

Dave shrugged, "That isn't that bad is it? I mean everyone knows that there are no longer dinosaurs on those islands except for maybe some Compys and a small Pterosaur or two. They were all either brought to Nublar or died off because of that mutant Spinosaurus whose skeleton was put on display on main-street."

Brandon winced, "Darius was a super hard core Dino nerd and when that news story broke he theorized with our dad that they probably just gave that story so no poachers or other companies would go to those islands to kill off the last living wild dinosaurs. He figured that scientists would be able to get a lot of data about dinosaurs by watching their living recreations interact in the wild."

Roxy nodded, "Makes sense, but we can still hope that that isn't the case. As it is, the island is still a no fly zone and heavily restricted boat access. The only kinds of people that would go near there are non-locals who aren't superstitious and aren't afraid of getting on the wrong side of the law."

Brandon grinned, "My military friend knows one of those who said he would be willing to get us to those islands."

Dave raised an eyebrow, "For how much?"

Brandon waved his hand, "$300 each, but he said that the first sign of any dinosaurs and he was going to leave us there and bill the US government hazard pay."

Roxy grimaced, "Well then... I guess we better hope there are no more dinosaurs there then."
