Author's note 1:
After seeing how many fourth wall breaks Savathun made over the years, I just had to write this.
I don't want it to be long or too short, but I'll just write until I can.
Screw the length.
So, Nick is my real name in real life, this means this is a "self insert" fanfiction, I think?
I am in it, after all.
Enjoy!
He opened his eyes… and was immediately blinded by a bright light.
Nick shielded his vision with a hand, emitting a loud groan in the process.
Surely he had remembered to press the switch and close it before going to bed?
Although as he patted the ground beneath, there wasn't a soft and comfy bed greeting him. Instead the hard material of a floor was pressed against his back, cracking a few of his bones each time the boy would try to shift his position.
Nick rubbed his eyes and face. "What the fuck?"
He pushed himself to his knees and scrambled to find his black glasses, he was myopic after all.
Placing them in their place, he yawned and slapped his face. He went to sleep late last night and the effects of a few hours of slumbering were still present, both in his body and appearing.
His eyes finally became customized to his surroundings and immediately he gasped.
One thing was for sure: he wasn't in his room anymore.
The structure around him reminded the boy of a fortress, very elegant in appearance but yet threatening to whatever intruder would try to sneak in.
There wasn't anyone in here and what caught his attention was a metal circle towards the end, made of a strange technology he had never seen before. And behind the circle, a big and greenish tree stood out in all of its glory.
The ceiling above him gave the impression of small and white stars rotating in a calm rhythm.
Various gates on the second level, lead by two pair of stairs, blocked the entrance of other rooms.
On his level, two tables with strange artifacts and bowls with purple organic matter produced a strange stink.
"Hello? Anyone here?" He called out, but nobody came.
He was alone…
But…
There was a familiar feeling, like he had already been in this building. A deja vu emerged from his chest.
"Wait a second… elegant yet a fortress like building, with all these bright colours around and unknown pieces of technology scrambled. A metal circle… which has to be a portal of some kind, turned off…" He analyzed the architecture one last time. "…isn't this Destiny 2?"
Last time he played it was two days ago.
He could recognize a place like this anywhere: it was the Dreaming City, or a portion of it.
"This is the main place where the plot advances in Season 15…" He rubbed his chin. "…don't tell me this is a situation where I was sucked in the game. That happens only in fanfictions."
Besides that, where was everyone? The room was completely empty with so signs of life.
"Let's pretend for a moment that this isn't a dream, alright? That I'm not hallucinating or took drugs. This is usually where Mara Sov and her Witches thingy are placed, since when I enter the portal behind me, the first person I see is her. Where the fuck is everyone?"
Here, boy. Come.
Nick snapped his head towards the sound. A gentle, caring and strangely young voice whispered in his mind, that was clearly a command to approach.
And that command came from…
"Holy shit. Whispers from Her? Not just beckoning me to walk inside, but she's using the fucking whispers?"
If there was one thing he didn't want to do, was meeting Savathun herself. But there was an issue: A, He couldn't use the portal behind him to reach the Tower since it was off; B, From each week he spent in his map he figured out that the only escape was said portal, which was fine in a way, no one could find it that easily; C, If he still remembered the lore in the correct way, the whispers would eventually influence his thoughts, twisting them. So he had to walk ahead before she decided to fuck his mind.
Sometimes he wondered if her song and the whispers were the same thing.
Nick gritted his teeth and clenched his fists in frustrations. Basically there was one thing left to do, but would the cage she was trapped in be enough?
Breathing deeply, he decided the best course of action would be an audience with the Witch Queen. And he walked.
"I need to be careful around her…" A chuckle escaped his lips. "…but who am I kidding? She's going to trick Mara and escape to then take the Light. If she can somehow trick a powerful being as Sov, what chances does a gamer like me have?"
Technically speaking, he had the advantage of informations. He knew what she is, who she is, what she has done and what she will do. So he could see 'The Truth' behind her lies, even if the informations on the next dlc were still little, but if he could 'survive it' was another argument.
Passing through the gates, he finally came right in front of the famous and infamous Goddess of trickery, incapacitated in her prison.
"Greetings, boy…" As expected, the voice was the same and the crystal shined each time she talked. "…what brings you to my, temporarily, home? Past all the security measures, of all things."
He narrowed his eyes. There was the slight possibility that it was Savathun who brought him here, but how if she couldn't access her powers while trapped? If anything, she would at least knowhis origins.
"Let's test that."
Nick slightly bowed. "A pleasure to meet you, Savathun. I'm Nick…" He glanced around for a moment. "…I'm fairly sure my predicament is quite hard to explain…" He smirked. "…unless you are faking your greeting and already know who I am."
An innocent chuckle escaped the Goddess. "That is all up to your interpretation, isn't it? I already know that my reputation precedes me, but who says that I know who you are? I've never seen you after all, I could guess your origins in a meaningless game you humans are so fond of, if that would placate your heart."
Oh, but she broke the fourth wall so many times in the past, hadn't she?
Nick carefully sat on the staircase, not having much to do aside from chatting with his frie-nemy.
"Besides…" He shifted his gaze to her. "…aside from her grace, Queen Mara, I haven't anyone else to talk with. And I'm not counting the Guardian and his little Ghost, he won't answer any of my questions, but he at least listens unlike most… people."
Well, that 'people' must have been the rest of the Hive, seemed like Savathun did not have another adjective to describe her kind to a human.
He hummed. "Say… did you ever think that all of this…" Nick gestured to the room. "…in another world, is just a reflection behind a monitor?"
The silence probed the boy to continue.
"I mean, who knows? Maybe reality is an illusion and the universe is a hologram someone can manipulate through codes to shape it as they want. Like… a video game?" He wasn't sure Savathun knew what the word meant, he hoped so at least.
A few moments passed before the Goddess released a hearty and full laugh, sending shivers down his spine. "Oh, is that so? I was wondering if I'd ever have the chance to meet one of you. Seems like my prayers were finally answered, mmm?"
He tried to maintain his poker face even after the confirmation from Savathun. "So, breaking the fourth wall wasn't just a conspiracy theory, uh? You really did it."
A croon vibrated from her. "Is it to be called fourth wall though? Let me ask you this, boy. Did you ever wonder if all of this place is really created by humans behind a desk or if it already existed by itself and everyone just happened to create the same universe? What if there is no true fourth wall? What if… 'Destiny' is as real as your world and I just happened to contact it through hidden messages, masked with the excuses that 'Bungie' wrote them?"
Doubt formed itself in his chest, but he wouldn't let his guard down in front of her.
"That doesn't change much, doesn't it? We will fight you in 'The Witch Queen' either way, our clash is inevitable…" He smirked. "…it will feel good to mount your head on a wall or call Eris to turn you into a gun like we did with your brother."
Savathun gently purred. "Cute, I must say. Not to ruin your dreams though, but you know that I'm stronger than any Gods you've ever fought with your Guardian before?"
He scoffed. "Isn't that the point though? Fighting a threat stronger by each year that passes and consequently getting stronger ourselves? What makes you think that you'll win anyway? We've got much more coming after your chapter, I think that should be enough to symbolize your defeat."
"And that's where you're wrong, my child…" He cringed at the nickname, but he supposed that having millions of years and a still young voice could have this effect. "…what makes you think that our destiny, oh the irony, is truly decided by the informations your world possesses and reveals? I already told you that we're two separate and living worlds, but that doesn't mean there can't be multiple versions of us?"
He raised an eyebrow. "Are you suggesting the possibility of a multiverse?"
"I wouldn't exactly call it that, more like different timelines. In this timeline you entered our realm and met me, in another you would still be in your home, in another you would have probably wanted to stay here and live this game as your official life. Who knows, in another you would have joined me and I would have welcomed you with open arms in my, soon to be, own family."
Oh fuck that, it's not like she appeared to be like those Rule 34s on internet. Incredible how pictures came out that fast after only a few weeks on Twitter.
"This implies that there is a chance that in this version of this reality, I could come out on top once my plan is accomplished and I take the Light for myself and my brood. Why should I stop from trying? Since my fate isn't sealed, I have every right to advance with my schemes…" She paused for a moment. "…but then again, what stops you from trying to convince the Vanguard of the upcoming future once they spot you here talking with the 'enemy'?"
Nick shook his head in denial. "I won't tell them, dear. You can count on that."
"Interesting. Why would you do me this gracious favor?" She would have tilted her head if she wasn't trapped.
"Because I want to see what you're truly capable of. You speak of being stronger and more powerful than any God we've faced. Why waste such an opportunity to meet the next opponent who claims to be so much? So do me a favor, Savathun…" He leaned in with a grin. "…give it your all once the times comes and don't disappoint the millions of fans out there. We want to see what the Witch Queen is truly made of."
Behind her shell, her own grin grew on her chitined lips. "That, my child, is a promise I can keep."
A wave of silence washed upon the two before Nick shrugged. "Say, why don't you tell me your story from the beginning?"
"Don't you know that I could twist the telling to my favor? I'm the Goddess of trickery, remember?"
"Cool and all, but I only read it as official informations. I want someone to give me their version of the events that took place on Fundament…" He cleared his throat. "…or maybe I just want to hear your opinions on the matter, your frustrations and judge if Sathona is still buried somewhere in you."
"I beg your pardon?" Ah, even the Witch Queen herself could be confused, maybe being human is an advantage after all considering the unpredictability of his species.
"I read the Hawkmoon lore tab." Nick simply answered.
He coughed a few times as Savathun answered with a, "Uhhh", and punched his chest. "Holy shit. I may be the first one to break the Goddes of trickery with a sentence, LOL."
"Basically on, almost, every exotic we can press a button and read a story. In that case, you spoke in first person about a feeling you didn't want to have. I wonder if there's still some good in you, like when you dreamed to travel the stars with your sisters, before you accepted the Worms' deal."
She remained silent.
"You seem to possess much informations on m-our past…" Oh shit, he guessed she was smiling. "…you're a lore nerd, aren't you?"
Now it was Nick's turn to be broken, as he stared at the crystal with an opened mouth… and a blush on his face.
This was amplified by the fact that Savathun actually giggled at his flustered predicament. "Very well. Get yourself comfortable and I shall begin. We have much time anyway, since Mara Sov and the others are discussing in a private meeting at the Tower."
The story coincided in every part with what he already knew, but it was strange to hear opinions and the venom in her voice when she narrated about certain events.
"You're more human than you realize, Savathun." He said.
"I guess that watching your race for so much time and living among you has changed my perspective and what I deem as 'Truth'."
He got an idea. "Truth, is a funny thing…" Nick began, catching Savathun's full attention. "…does it live in the world? Or in the mind? Is it constant or can it be bend? Who decides what is truth in this universe of Light and Dark? There is no greater power. Tell me little lights, what is your Truth now?"
...
"Believe me, my child, when I say that if I was free from this cursed cage I would have clapped to you with admiration."
He sat up and bowed. "I'll be here all day, my Queen. At your service."
"Indeed, those are good lines for a dialogue. I may borrow them when the time comes."
He widened his eyes. She didn't know those were the words she would speak in the dlc?
"Well, she did speak about multiple timelines with different situations or outcomes. Maybe in this she didn't use those lines and I just suggested a badass dialogue." He felt a bit proud at his achievement.
But he suddenly collapsed on the staircase, putting a hand to his forehead.
"Are you okay, Nick?" Was that genuine concern in her voice?
He didn't have time to think about it.
"I feel… sleepy, all of sudden."
She hummed. "It would appear our time has come to an end. You must return home now. It was a real pleasure talking with you."
"W-wait! Did you bring me here?" He asked, as his vision turned black.
"No, my child. I didn't."
Nick closed his eyes and let the darkness surround him.
What a surprise when the next morning he found himself in his bed, in his house.
With the question if it was all a very real dream, or if he did cross worlds.
Author's note 2:
I mean, she may appear too humanized but after that "RIP Cayde" I just let me imagination do the trick when writing.
Besides, it's a parody and fanfiction.
Until next time!
Gino out!
(Also in my language the dubber of Savathun is pretty young than the english version so... I decided to insert that)
