Author's note 2:

After giving some thought, I decided to close this story with a secondary chapter. Effectively making this a "Two-shots."

Enjoy!

It was the second time he had this throbbing head naggining him along with a headache. The pain felt familiar, very familiar.

Nick slowly woke up and yawned. He massaged his temples and rested his arm on his leg as he looked around the area.

He wasn't in his bed anymore…

"Don't tell me that dream was no dream at all and I'm back here again."

There were grass and rocks, he was on some sort of hill.

And that's when he saw HER.

"Shit, guess it was no dream at all. Can she even hurt me? Or is this some sort of neutral ground where our spirits can communicate with each other?"

Savathun sat alone on the same hill from the cutscene of the campaign, where she begged the Traveler with her last breath. She appeared deep in thought, moving her three eyes back and forth on the Last City.

A calm breeze brushed over the human and he shivered. He stuffed his hands in the pockets of his shirt and shrugged, maybe she didn't notice him yet.

Nick walked a few steps towards her. "So! Back here again, uh? And here I thought you would have been the official boss of the raid…" He raised an eyebrow and coughed in his hand. "…not that Rhulk was useless in the lore context of the Witness."

The sound of his voice alerted the Hive Queen, she looked behind her with an almost imperceptible hiss. Though her glare softened when she realized who sneaked up on her.

"And she's still wearing that basketball thingy on the top of her head. Fuck me sideways."

He raised a hand. "Hi. Before you ask, I don't know how the hell I got here in the first place."

Savathun rested her gaze on the human for a few moments before waving off a claw. "I had a feeling we would meet again, my child. Are you here to rub your victory in my face as you proud humans always do when winning? Because it would provoke no reaction out of me: I had time to metabolize my defeat."

"She could be lying. Evade did say that it could have been all part of her mastermind plan. Her death and Immaru's escape."

He shrugged. "I'm not going to do that unless you'd like me to…" He scratched the back of his head. "…I could be here for a while. Would you mind if I take a seat next to you? I wouldn't want to miss this fantastic panorama."

Savathun followed the human's finger and nodded. "How is it that you humans put it? 'Knock yourself out.'"

Grinning, he made his way towards the spot and thanked the Hive Goddess when she moved a little to make room for him.

They remained silent for a while. Nick fidgetted with his fingers, not sure what to say.

"When you fought the Guardian, did you think about me?" He gesticulated. "Like… in your mind were you fighting the Godslayer of your family or the human controlling the character with a keyboard or pad?"

She blinked and rubbed her chin with a boned finger. "I'd dare to say both. When I tried to destabilize the Guardian with words, his attacks increased in strength but his concentration did too. Not exactly the desired effect… I imagined you glaring at me behind your petty monitor while throwing curses."

"You aren't far from the truth, that fight in legendary was a sweaty quest! But in the end we did beat you, right? The next victim will be the Witness."

She laughed, opening her maw wide open. "If you think even for a moment that our clash will be comparable to the Witness' arrival, then you're just a delusional boy dreaming of achievements beyond his reach."

"Our probabilities could increase if you joined us."

"Unlikely, why would I do that anyway after you destroyed my plan to keep the Traveler safe?"

Nick huffed angrily. "You tried to rob humanity of the Light! If the Traveler wanted, he could have already fleed like he did with the Eliksni or when you made the deal with the Worms that cost you so much!"

"Or maybe he was waiting for the right opportunity to ensure its survival while the Solar System is surrounded by the fleet…" She bit back and waved his outburst off. "…either way, you are contribuiting in destroying what you seek to protect in the first place."

He grinned and laughed. "Such an attachment towards your ex-nemesis. Does it still burn to be forced into an evolutionary stage and become mindless killing machines with the only mission to destroy life itself? The Hive Goddess of trickery was tricked. Whoopie-thefucking-do!"

"The revelation was quite schocking, I admit, and it did strike me with feelings of anger over losing control of the situation for the first time. But I shall not antagonize you and you shouldn't either, my child."

Christ, the difference in height as she raised her claw and patted him on the back.

"Stop with the 'my child' thing, Savathun. I'm not your son even though I know how much you would have liked a spawn of your own."

"Would you rather like to be called 'my pet'? I find it amusing to adress you with a nickname."

"Continue with 'my child.'"

"As you command."

Nick sighed and pinched his eyes. "Still, is it too much to ask to change your species' pattern for once? Why do you want to continue fighting us when it's a lost battle each time? We both know the Hive's nemesis is Humanity and we will never stop fighting."

"You are hoping to stop a fight that has been going for centuries. Do you expect my kind to follow your advice over night and shake hands with the Last City?"

"Well…" He shrugged. "…over night House of Light settled themselves in one part of the Tower while it only took Caiatl some actual reason to understand that we are better as allies than enemies. This and the fact that we respected their traditions with honour. Besides, aren't you tired of the same pattern?"

She tilted her head and blinked her three eyes.

"The Hive has always followed simple rules." Nick rotated his hand in a circular motion. "Kill, kill, kill, get stronger, stronger, stronger, destroy, destroy, destroy, prove yourself worthy of living. You are free of your worm and… you seem quite the intellectual conversationalist. I think you'd like some of our philosophers and their view of the world: your culture reminds me of the natural state and its war Hobbes and Rousseau talked about."

He breathed and shrugged. "But it's your choice whether to try and destroy humanity again or decide to cooperate with us. I must admit that I was quite shocked to discover your trick into gaining back your memories."

He went as far as patting her claw with his hand. The cold and hard chitin felt uncomfortable under his touch, he suppressed a wince and winked at her.

She rumbled in her throat and shifted her gaze elsewhere.

Nick opened his mouth to add more but stopped and yawned loudly.

He felt sleepy and tired…

"It seems our time has come to an end."

She shuffled closer.

"Woh! What are you-"

"Hush now, my child."

He suddenly found himself scooped with his back on Savathun's chest, he was held close with an arm and a leg to keep him up. Her touch was reassuring and gentle, much different than when he fought her in Destiny 2.

His eyes almost closed.

"You are right about one thing, my child." She softly crooned over his head. "I did want a spawn of my own. But I didn't want it to be tainted by the wretched Worm, I wanted it to be free and to teach it like a true mother."

A song vibrated from her. It was that song.

"This is how your human mothers comfort your young, isn't it? It feels… relaxing."

Slowly but surely, he felt asleep…

…and groaned when he woke up inside his house.

Her song still echoed inside his mind along with her laugh.

THE END (?)

Author's note 2:

For me, this is over.

But… well, if this gets much more attention I might consider working on a series with a human in it and his relationship with Savathun lol. I could it once I end other projects on my profile.

Let me know what you think.

Until next time!

Gino out!
