It was exam results day. Rachel had been determined to go into the school to see the students, but when the morning came around she knew it was impossible. After waking up and getting dressed, she was struggling to stay awake, and she had no choice but to stay home.
Rachel was on tenterhooks all day waiting for Eddie to come home. When she did sleep, it did not seem to help her feel any better. She was edgy and restless, unable to sit still. She kept getting up, walking into the kitchen, looking for something to keep herself busy. She started washing up, but was frustrated by needing to sit down halfway through. When she returned to the dishes, she found the water had gone cold. She could not even concentrate on a TV programme. When finally, Eddie came through the door, he broke the news to her: "best results Waterloo Road has ever had!"
Rachel closed her eyes and breathed a sigh of relief. She felt so happy, so proud for her students. Their hard work (and hers) had paid off. "I knew it!" she said, "I kept having this dream."
"Oh," said Eddie, "were you so nervous you had nightmares about exam results?"
"No," she replied, "I don't think it was nerves. I had this recurring dream that we achieved the school's best ever exam results."
"Wait, what, I thought you were having nightmares, but you've actually been having a recurring dream about GCSE results?" Laughed Eddie.
"Well . . ." Rachel began, realising how silly it now sounded, "yes, yes I have."
