Chapter 9: A girl with scars
Izuku was shocked to see a little girl clinging onto him like her life depended on it. For some reason he felt like he wanted to keep her safe. But from what? A few seconds later, Sir Nighteye and Mirio arrived on the scene.
"Who's that little girl?" Mirio asked.
"My daughter," said another voice.
Everyone turned to face someone wearing some kind of bird mask. For some reason Izuku felt tense, and kept his grip on the little girl.
"Thank you for finding my daughter," the man said.
"Wait... daughter?" Izuku asked, "Why does she have-"
"Because she gets into multiple accidents," the man said, "My name is Kai Chisaki. Now would you be so kind as to hand her over."
Izuku looked at the little girl, and then at Chisaki.
"...No." Izuku said.
Nighteye shot Izuku a scowl.
"Izuku, hand over the child," Nighteye said.
"No," Izuku said, "I can't just leave her with this man. For all we know he could be someone who's abusing her!"
"We don't know that for sure," Nighteye bluntly said, "But we could be interfering with something."
"Still, its a hero's job to keep someone safe isn't it," Izuku countered, "I can't just give her back to that man."
"Izuku. Its. Her. Fate." Nighteye said, "And in the struggle of good vs evil, her fate is more important than her happiness."
Chisaki snapped his fingers and a few associates arrived with weapons.
"Now, let's try this again," Chisaki said, "Give her to me."
Izuku refused to let her out of his grasp. Suddenly, some kind of smoke emerged from his body! Shots were fired, but nobody was hurt. Izuku started running with the girl in his arms.
As Izuku was running he saw Nighteye standing right in front of him.
"Give me the child," he said.
"Never!" Izuku said.
Nighteye then felt a hand on his face as he got tackled to the floor. It was Katsuki who had attacked him from behind.
"Run, Deku! I've got this!" He said.
Izuku shot a whip on a building and began to swing away. Meanwhile Katsuki kept his hold on Nighteye.
"What the hell is your problem with Deku?!" Katsuki asked
"It's simple! He's simply not worthy and this reckless act proves it!" Nighteye said.
"What's reckless about saving a little girl from danger?" Katsuki asked, "And what's this about fate?!
"My quirk. It allows me to be able to see other people's movements as well as be able to see people's lives as if it was a story! That little girl is going to get everyone and whomever she touches, killed!" Nighteye explained, furthering Katsuki's already aroused temper.
"Just because you can see the future doesn't mean everything is set in stone!" Katsuki shouted, "Just look at Deku! He thought he was fated to be a failure, but he ended up being a greater hero than I ever hoped to be!"
Katsuki was about to punch Sit Nighteye, but his punc was blocked.
"Should've kept your guard up!"
At that, Nighteye pushed Katsuki up and off of him and managed to hold him down. However as he continued to pursue Izuku, he found himself suddenly frozen. Shoto froze him in his tracks.
"Couple minutes should cool you off," Shoto said.
Katsuki looked at him.
"I had that covered," Katsuki said.
"I know, but, the hell you did."
Izuku was far away from Chisaki and Sir Nighteye. He then looked at the little girl.
"Don't worry," he said to her, "I won't let them anywhere near you."
"But you will stand still!" shouted someone.
Izuku turned around to see Hisashi. He was holding a gun with a quirk erasing drug.
"You..." Izuku said.
Shoto arrived, having taken care of the men that had him cornered.
"What are you doing?" Izuku asked.
"Giving you the life your mother wanted, and the life you deserve." Hisashi stated.
"Why are you trying to do this?" Shoto asked, "You should be proud. Your son is growing up to be an amazing hero!"
"HE NEVER SHOULD'VE BEEN A HERO!" Hisashi shouted, "I never wanted him out there risking his life for nothing!"
"And I'm sure nobody else's parents did either but hell, they were much more supportive than what you were doing! Ever thought that YOU were the one that was risking his life in the first place?! And who said it was for nothing?!" Shoto shouted. "Hell! You're just as bad as my own Father! Worse if I dare say!"
"You stay out of this," Hisashi said before turning to Izuku, "And YOU! You're giving that child back to that man right now!"
Hisashi tried to take Eri out of his arms but Izuku stepped back and jump kicked him hard across the face that he fell to the floor, holding his face while in pain. He spat something out in his hand and saw he broke some teeth out!
"Who the hell are you to give me orders!" Izuku shouted, "You're NOT my father! I won't stand here and let you do this to me."
"I'm not doing this to you Izuku, I'm doing it FOR you!" Hisashi said.
"Oh, bullshit! What the hell are you doing FOR me exactly?! Trying to have me give up on my dreams that I worked myself to the bone to go after?!" Izuku snapped back.
Hisashi said nothing. He aimed the gun at Izuku, prepared to take away his quirk for good. However, before he could fire, Mirio phased through the floor and grabbed the gun, crushing it.
"Not today!" Mirio said.
"Togata!" Izuku said happily.
"I put an arrest warrant on Chisaki and his men," Togata explained.
"What about Nighteye?" Izuku asked.
"Well I saw him in a popsicle, but I decided to leave him there for the time being," Mirio said.
Izuku looked at the little girl in his arms. She seemed tired.
"We should get her to the nearest hospital pronto," Izuku told them.
Later on, Izuku was waiting at the hospital for the doctors and recovery girl to check on Eri. The doors opened revealing Ochako who rushed in and hugged her boyfriend.
"Deku, I heard what happened from Todoroki!" she said, "Are you ok?"
"I'm fine, Ochako. I may have gotten in a little bit of a scramble that involved saving a little girl." Izuku said.
"Little girl?" Ochako asked.
Izuku explained the whole scenario and the fact that Sir Nighteye tried to force Izuku to surrender the little girl to Chisaki, and about Hisashi trying to take away his quirk with some kind of quirk erasing drug.
"So, Sir Nighteye can even stoop that low?!" Ochako asked, rather furious at what Izuku told her.
"Not as low as the man I once called my dad," Izuku said, "He claimed to be doing it 'for' me!"
Ochako could've sworn she nearly just swallowed her tongue from how shocked she was. She then hugged Izuku.
"I'm just glad you're ok," she said.
Recovery girl came out of the room.
"How is she?" Izuku asked.
"She's ok deary, but she's been asking 'where's Mr. Deku' all this time," Recovery Girl said, "Seems she's grown accustomed to you."
"Is it okay to go see her?" Izuku asked.
"Of course, dear. I swear, you minus will be a Dad to her." Recovery Girl said.
Izuku and Ochako walked into the room. The little girl looked and saw Izuku.
"H-hi," she said.
"Hello," Izuku spoke silently, "What's your name?"
"I'm….. Eri," Eri said.
"I'm Izuku Midoriya, but my hero name is Deku," Izuku said, "So yea, I'm Deku."
She then looked and saw Ochako.
"Who is she?" she asked.
"Oh, that's Ochako Uraraka." Izuku told her.
"O-jako Ura- tacha?" Eri asked, trying to pronounce Ochako's full name.
"Ochako Uraraka," Ochako said again, "You are so cute."
The little girl then looked down to the floor looking sad.
"I'm sorry," she said.
"For what?" Izuku asked.
"You had to waste your time on me," she said.
Izuku bent down towards her level and patted her on the head.
"I didn't waste any time on you, Eri. I did this because I knew it was the right thing. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I had to give you back to that man." He told her.
"Besides, that's what heroes do," Ochako said, "They save people and get them to smile. Why don't you show us your smile?"
Eri tried to smile. She even tried pulling her cheeks a little bit.
"I'm sorry... how do you smile again?" Eri asked, sadly.
"You poor baby," Ochako said as she rubbed her head.
Izuku knew he had to do something. He suddenly came up with an idea.
"Recovery Girl, would it be too much trouble if I became her caretaker and adopt her?" he asked.
"Really?" Recovery Girl asked.
"Yes," Izuku said with a determined look, "When I was growing up, my father never once believed in what I could do, and he always talked me down. I grew up without a good father until All Might came into my life, and I'll be darned if Eri goes through something similar."
Recovery Girl walked up to Izuku and gave him a big hug.
"Sometimes you're too nice for your own good deary," she said, "But I think we can make some magic happen."
She went to the side to talk to people. Ochako then looked to Izuku.
"By the way Deku, what's this I hear about you using fire and telekinetic quirks?" Ochako asked, "Are these quirks with... you know what?"
"No," Izuku said, "OH yea!" Is there a quirk doctor here?"
Later on a doctor was doing tests on Izuku. After a few minutes, the results came in.
"Whoever your quirk doctor was, he was a total shitbag!" a kinder doctor said, "It turns out you had a quirk all this time! You were just a late bloomer!"
"Wait... really?" Izuku asked.
"Your quirk is a rare perfect combination quirk, allowing you to use both quirks at the same time, or separately," the doctor explained, "It can become pretty strong with proper training!"
Meanwhile, in another hospital…
Iida rushed into the room where his older brother was. He had just received word that someone had ambushed him and cut his legs. Tensei Iida was known to the world as the first Ingenium.
"BROTHER!" he said.
A nurse shushed him as he was too loud. Tensei was shown to be ok.
Iida then turned to the doctor.
"What's going on?" he asked.
"He was attacked by a villain," the doctor explained, "Someone called… Stain."
"Well you can bounce back!" Iida said, "Ingenium always bounces back."
"I'm sorry Tenya… but I'm afraid I can't time," Tensei said.
He then pointed to Iida with a smile.
"Now… its your turn."
Stain had retreated somewhere that nobody could get to him. He had accomplished his task he was assigned, and rewarded with money. He looked down to the ground.
"Was it worth it…" he asked himself.
