Disclaimer: Rurouni Kenshin does not belong to me.
This
is, in fact, my very first 100 word fic. I am not very good at being
all subtle and and using symbolism and the power of suggestion, so it's not
very good, but it's a stabbing effort. And good practice for paying
attention to my word choices.
It started as a one-shot (many years ago) that I could never really elaborate on, so I just chipped away at it and it became this.
Enjoy!
The wind died down into a gentle breeze, caressing the pair tenderly and sweetly kissing their cheeks.
"The sakura trees seem so much emptier now than when I left."
"They've been gradually falling for months now, I barely noticed," he answered.
"Some things are like that."
A pause.
"You never notice a gradual change until you take a step back. Then it seems the whole world has changed."
It had. "You must think me strange to say that."
"Not at all."
His hand found hers in the blizzard of falling pink petals.
Glancing down, she smiled. "Let's go home, Kenshin."
I could have left it ambiguous as to who the male was, but it was very clear in my mind which two characters were sharing this moment. It's supposed to take place at the end of "Down the Road" but I could never fit it in. (Just a hint.)
I would love some feedback, as it is my first attempt at this sort of fic...
