This is my first fanfiction. Due to the fact that I am going to run this story through seven years of education and a year after school, the relations between the characters will develop slowly. Let me know if you are interested.

Someday it all starts. For me, it all started on the day I received my letter. Someone on the outside might disagree with me. He would have chosen a different moment, however… I know better. My parents' mistakes are not my mistakes. The day an owl knocked on my window was the beginning of receiving a reply. Answers to the questions that have been bothering me since forever.

Hermione Granger

Prologue

July was not good for everyone. Some who just don't like summer. There are also those who feel lonely during the summer months. However, the 11-year-old girl belonged to a completely different group. Despite the fact that she was completely unacceptable to her peers, she liked school. Thanks to her, she had a busy time. She liked work. Admittedly, the amount of free time in the summer months also allowed her to sink into the book, but… In her eyes, it was not the same.

Getting up on the morning of July 15, she did not expect her day to be any different from the previous ones. She was going to eat breakfast, read a book on tree species, and take a walk. This way, she could spend more time outdoors while putting her knowledge into practice. Mom always told her that she was sitting with her nose in the books too much. It was a compromise. At least in her eyes. She had not expected her specific plan of action to be disrupted by the arrival of a tawny owl carrying a letter.

- Mom! Mom! Look! The owl brought me a letter. I've heard of carrier pigeons but owls? Hermione burst into the kitchen waving a cream-colored envelope with a red seal.

Jean Granger got scared. She did not think that her daughter, with only a quarter of her magic blood in her, would inherit a gift strong enough to be captured by the Ministry of Magic. She remembered the bursts of magic in her little girl, but it happened less and less. She thought they were gone.

- Honey, will you show me? - She stretched out her hand for the letter, which was met with the disapproval of the addressee.

- But he's for me.

- I know, honey. You will read it. I just want to take a look to make sure the content is not dangerous to you. As for postal owls, a certain community uses them. - She tried to calm her with a smile but gave up seeing the disappointment in the girl's eyes - Okay. Sit next to me. We will look together.

The eyes of both women darted to the words in the letter. Jean was slightly nervous and surprised. Hermione was unexpectedly satisfied.

- Mom, is this a joke? Am I really a witch?

- Oh, honey, yeah. I didn't think it would come to this. Mrs. Granger threw her daughter into her arms. Before you judge me that I haven't told you anything, let me tell you a story. You knew Richard wasn't your biological father although he loved you like his own. Before meeting my husband, I was in a relationship with a man. I loved him and he loved me. I don't know what happened, but one day our contact broke off. As a Muggle, that is, a non-magical person, I had limited opportunities to search for him. Maybe it would be different if we were married. At least, I was cut off from him. I couldn't look for him. I couldn't tell him about you.

- Mom, do you think ... - She looked at her with her brown eyes and sighed - ... that he would even like me if he knew about me?

- For sure. Although I think you might irritate him more than once. He was rather calm in his acquisition of knowledge and you darling are very expressive. Can I go on? - After Hermione nodded, Jean continued her story - I'd like to explain to you why I didn't tell you about your magic blood. Severus was half blood. I am a muggle. I was afraid that after I told you who your father was, you might be more than disappointed if you had not inherited his abilities. I didn't want to disappoint you.

Hermione looked into her mother's eyes. She knew that this confession had cost her a lot. She put her hand on her shoulder and let her continue.

- At least your father told me a few things about his world. I know that this letter will be followed by a teacher who will explain everything to us. You have to pretend you don't know anything. Your father broke a number of laws by telling me about himself. - Jean combed her hair nervously - Sometimes it's hard to get what she has to say.

- I think I understand, Mom. The point is, we're not supposed to admit what we know?

- Yeah baby. It seems fair to me that you would not be able to confess until Severus finds out.

- Dad ... And what's his last name?

- Your dad is Severus Snape. And if nothing has changed, he will be teaching you potions from September.

Hermione's eyes sparkled. Although nothing announced it in the morning, she knew that this day would change her life. She just didn't know if it was for better or worse. She will be different and she will count on it.

Jean saw the delight in her daughter's eyes. She knew a lot would change now. Maybe someday she will be able to tell her the rest of her secrets. However, this has to wait. Hermione was still too young. For now, she will be happy with her and hope that her father will not reject her.
