Summer's almost over, this upsets me... but anyway here's the chapter. Things should get a little more interesting...
The twins, Yuki and Diego entered Saffron City, the Champion's Festival had just started. There were food stands and performers everywhere. There were also posters of the Pokemon Champions from regions around the world.
"Wow, look at all of this!" Julia exclaimed excitedly. Diego noticed a poster on the wall of a nearby building, he looked at it and instantly grew excited. Yuki noticed his excitement and took the poster.
"Hey girls, look at this!" She said.
"What is it?" Renée asked. Yuki then began reading what the poster said.
"The Champions Festival is an event dedicated to the Pokemon Champions around the world, every year the festival will take place in various cities worldwide. Trainers will get the chance to meet their favorite champion and they might even get the chance to battle them!"
"Sis look! Aunt Cynthia is here!" Julia said, she showed Renée the list of Champions that were attending the event. Sure enough, the Sinnoh region's reigning champion, Cynthia, was attending the festival.
"It would be so awesome to see Aunt Cynthia again! I bet she'll be shocked to see how far we've come!" Renée added. Diego and Yuki were shocked at what the twins said.
"Did you two just say that Cynthia... is your aunt?!" Diego asked, absolutely stunned. Yuki looked equally shocked.
"Oh hehe, yeah the Champion of Sinnoh is our mom's sister. She taught us a lot about pokemon even before we went to the academy but since she was so busy, she was the one who signed us up for the academy." Renée explained.
"But if Aunt Cynthia is here then where is she?" Julia pondered.
"The most logical place she would be would be the Silph Co. building, since it is this city's landmark." Yuki suggested.
"Alright, let's get to Silph Co.!" Diego said, the four of them hurried over to Silph Co. Diego looked eager to battle Cynthia...
In another section of the city, Jack had entered the Saffron Gym. He looked around for the gym leader and surprisingly, she was! She had black hair with light blue tips and a black and red plaid skirt with a black t-shirt. She looked surprised to see someone in her gym.
"Hm? I didn't expect to see anybody to come in today. But I guess I have to do my job. Anyway, my name is Martha, gym leader of Saffron City and I specialize in Dark-type Pokemon." Martha explained.
"Martha... it's been a while, hasn't it." Jack said.
"Jack, is that you?" Martha asked.
"How long has it been Martha? Ten or eleven years?" Jack asked as he removed his mask.
"Almost eleven, I haven't seen you since I left Hoenn."
"I know it's been too long, when did you become the gym leader?"
"A few weeks ago, my mom decided to become a full time actor."
"Really? That's awesome! I loved her work in the Mystery Doors of the Magical Lands series."
"Yeah, she's awesome, but that's not why you came here. You came for a gym battle right?" Martha asked to which Jack nodded his head.
"Alright then Jack, this'll be our first battle. Even though we're friends I can't let you win easily, I'm going to try my hardest and I want you to do your best too!" Martha said, the two of them sent out their pokemon, Martha sent out an Absolute while Jack sent out his newly evolved Venusaur.
The group arrived to the front of the Silph Co. building, there was a stage set up and a large crowd in front of it. The four of them managed to work their way to the front of the crowd. The president of Silph Co. took the stage.
"Hello and welcome to this year's Champion's Festival, I do hope you all are enjoying this event! Now it gives me great pleasure to introduce the Champions of regions around the world. Unfortunately the champion of the Hoenn region could not join us for the festivities as he has a challenger, so he has asked the previous champion to come in his place. Now, without furtherddelay, here are the Champions from the regions of our pokemon world!"
The curtains of the stage rose, revealing the Pokemon Champions.
"The Kanto Champion: Blue Oak!
The Johto Champion: Silver!
Hoenn's former Champion: Steven Stone!
Sinnoh's reigning Champion: Cynthia!
The Champion of Unova: Benga!
The Kalos region's undefeated Champion: Trevor!
The newly crowned Champion of the Edath region: Gin Roh!
And the Champion of the Tunod region: Percy!"
"Look! There's aunt Cynthia!" Julia squealed with joy, though nobody heard her due to the roaring of the crowd. Cynthia and the other Champions smiled and waved at the crowd. It was then that Cynthia noticed the twins standing in the front row. She approached the four trainers, the crowd became silent.
"I knew I would see you girls here, would you like to come on stage?" She asked.
"Wow, you want us to come on stage?" Julia asked, unable to contain her excitement.
"Can we bring our friends too?" Renée asked.
"Of course." Cynthia replied, the four of them went on stage and the crowd began cheering again.
"Ms. Cynthia, if you don't mind, who are these trainers that you've invited on stage?" The president asked.
"Why, these are my nieces, Julia and Renée." Cynthia answered, she then turned to Diego and Yuki. "I understand you two are friends of my nieces but I don't know your names."
"My name is Yuki Ms. Cynthia, it's SOOOO nice to meet you!" Yuki answered almost immediately.
"I'm Diego and I know this is really sudden Ms. Cynthia, but I challenge you to a battle!"
Cynthia seemed rather surprised at the sudden request, but she smiled at Diego.
"Well today is a day of celebration, why not make things better with a battle? So Diego, I accept your challenge." Cynthia announced.
"Why be greedy Cynthia? Spread the fun around! I wanna battle too!" Benga exclaimed.
"Well it wouldn't be fair if it's two against one, do any of you girls want to battle against us?" Cynthia asked.
"Oh! Oh! I'll battle!" Julia announced.
"Then it's settled, you two will face Benga and I in a double battle." Cynthia said. As the four of them were preparing for the battle Gin Roh was getting off of the stage, Steven noticed this and went to go talk to her.
"Where are you going Ginny? Aren't you going to stay and watch the battle?"
"Sorry Steven, but there's someone I need to see."
Meanwhile, Jack had finished his battle with Martha where he had won.
"Hehe, congrats Jack! Thanks for the awesome battle, I'm glad I can give you this badge, this is the Shadow Badge." Martha said, the badge resembled a crescent moon and was black with a red outline. "Here take this as a gift from me too." She added, giving him a TM.
"Thanks Martha! I'm glad I got to see you and I'm sorry I have to leave so soon. But you should be getting three more challengers sometime soon." Jack replied.
"Jack... there something important I need to talk to you about." Martha said, she sounded serious. "I know what you've been accused of and I know those accusations are false. My advice is to find the people who did this and I know just the people who can help you. There's a cafe that's a few blocks away from here. Even though a lot of people are at the festival the cafe should be packed, ask for the owner and tell them I sent you."
Jack nodded and headed for the exit.
"Jack wait!" Martha called, she ran up to Jack and hugged him. "Be careful out there, ok?" Jack looked at her and nodded, he put his mask back on and left the gym. As he was walking to the cafe, his pokemon spoke to him using Gallade's psychic power.
"Jack, how do you know that girl?" Gallade asked.
"Yeah, she's an old friend of mine. We use to go to school together when we were kids but because her mom was so busy juggling her work as an actor and a gym leader, she had to move to Kanto." Jack explained.
"Chief, when are you gonna use me in a battle?" Shuppet asked.
"Soon Shuppet, I promise."
The double battle between Diego and Julia versus Cynthia and Benga was about to begin. They decided to only use one pokemon between all of them. The four of them sent out their pokemon, Diego sent out his Golbat, Julia used her Sealeo, Benga sent out a Volcarona, while Cynthia sent out her famous Garchomp.
"You two can make the first move." Cynthia said.
"Alright, Golbat, hit Garchomp with an Acrobatics!" Diego ordered, Golbat charged at Garchomp, but the large dragon avoided the attack as if it were nothing.
"Sealeo, use Water Pulse on Volcarona!" Julia commanded, Sealeo's attack connected to the fiery bug but Volcarona seemed completely unfazed by the attack.
"Garchomp, Dig." Cynthia commanded, Garchomp hid underground, completely out of sight.
"Volcarona, use Solar Flare!" Benga ordered, Volcarona flapped it's wings creating a bright flash of light that made it harder for Golbat and Sealeo to see which gave Garchomp the perfect opportunity to attack Sealeo.
"Golbat, fight back with a Confuse Ray on Volcarona!"
"Sealeo use Aurora Beam an Garchomp! Quickly!"
Both Sealeo and Golbat's attacks went in completely different directions, missing their targets.
"Garchomp, use Dragon Thunder on Golbat."
"Volcarona, hit Sealeo with a Whirlwind Spin!"
Garchomp began glowing blue and white, a streak of thunder crashed into Golbat from the sky, causing Golbat to crash into the ground. Volcarona flapped it's wings again, a spinning wheel of clouds formed as a result. This wheel sped towards Sealeo, feathers flying out of it, this wheel crashed into the Ice pokemon, knocking it out.
"Come on Golbat, get up! You can do it, I believe in you!" Diego shouted. Golbat got back up and began to evolve!
"Wow, Golbat evolved into Crobat!" Yuki said in awe.
'That won't help in this situation, aunt Cynthia's Garchomp is one of the strongest pokemon in the world! There's no way Diego can win...' Renée thought to herself.
"Alright Crobat, let's get Garchomp with Cross Poison!" Diego announced.
"Garchomp, end this battle with Dragon Rush." Cynthia commanded, Garchomp leaped into the air with its arm glowing red, Garchomp then smashed Crobat with its arm, sending it crashing into the ground again and knocking it out.
Diego sent his Crobat back into its pokeball, he didn't seem very upset that he lost.
"That was a good try you two." Benga said.
"Yeah well, I guessed we wouldn't be able to do any damage to your pokemon, you're two Champions!" Diego confessed.
"But it was really fun, and that's the important thing, right?" Julia added, to which everyone nodded. Cynthia faced the president of Silph Co. and spoke to him.
"I'd like to take my nieces and their friends out to explore the town, is that alright?"
"Of course Ms. Cynthia! Please enjoy yourself!" The president answered.
"Great, well let's go and enjoy ourselves!" Cynthia announced and the five of them went to go around the city.
Jack had just found the cafe that Martha had told him to check out. It was known as the Rocket Cafe. Jack entered the cafe and looked around, the cafe had a quaint and homely feel to it. Just as Martha had said, the cafe was full of people. The people inside were dressed in old Team Rocket uniforms as well as uniforms of other villainous teams that were now defunct. A man in a suit and a yellow tie approached Jack.
"Hey there! Welcome to the Rocket Cafe! Is there anything you need?" The man asked.
"Um, yeah I'm looking for the owner of the cafe." Jack replied. "Martha sent me."
"Ah, good to hear from that girl! The name's Steven Armstrong, I'm the owner of this cafe. Come, come, let me show you around!" Mr. Armstrong said. He led Jack over to a table with three people sitting by it, there were two men and a woman.
The woman had dark skin and she was rather tall, her hair was pink and it went down to her back, she wore a black and red dress. The first man had a few scars on his face and hands, he was bald and wore a black trench coat and army camouflage pants. The other man had tan skin and slick black hair that was tied in a ponytail, he wore a tan buttoned shirt and blue jeans.
"Jack, these are some of my associates. Lorraine Mistral, one of the world's greatest actors and models from the Kalos region. Arnold Sundowner, one of the veterans of the great pokemon war long ago. Last but not least is Samuel Jetstream, he's the security around this place, he doesn't talk much, but he's strong enough to give even the Elite Four a run for their money."
"It's a pleasure." Samuel greeted, his voice was monotonous.
"How are ya' kid!" Arnold said, he sounded lively and had a bit of a southern accent.
"Bonjour Mon'Amie." Lorraine greeted, her voice sounded serene and calming. Just as the five of them began talking, one of the cafe's staff approached Mr. Armstrong.
"Hey boss, there's a girl here to see you."
Mr. Armstrong went to go see who wanted to see him, it was a young girl with long silver hair wearing a navy blue dress with red flowers on it.
"Haha! There's my little Ginny!" Armstrong said, hugging the girl.
"It's nice to see you too Uncle Armstrong!" Ginny returned the greeting. She then turned her attention to Jack, she seemed to strike an interested in him.
"You... there's something special about you. What is your name?"
"My name is Jack, I hope to-" Jack began before Ginny raised her finger, shushing Jack. She stood silently, her eyes closed, for about a minute before she spoke.
"You hope to challenge the Pokemon League here in Kanto, all the while you're going through a very difficult and rather dangerous time right now." Ginny stated.
"T-that's right but... how did you know?!" Jack said in awe.
"Hahaha, my niece is good at telling fortunes." Armstrong explained.
"I learned how to read fortunes in my home region. If you're going to challenge the Pokemon League then you'd best train your pokemon to be the strongest they can be, I can help you if you'd like."
"Really? That'd be great!" Jack said eagerly.
"Then it's settled then, you two will have a battle!" Armstrong announced loud enough for the whole cafe to hear him. The cafe patrons looked excited to see a battle. Ginny and Jack walked onto the stage that was in the cafe.
"Alright then Jack, let's keep it simple and only use one pokemon." Ginny said. Jack nodded and knew what pokemon he should use.
'Alright Shuppet, let's see what you can do!' Jack thought, sending out Shuppet.
"I feel the winds of victory blowing our way, let's go Talonflame!" Ginny announced, Jack scanned Talonflame with his pokedex.
'Talonflame, the Scorching Pokemon: in the fever of an exciting battle, it showers embers from the gaps between its feathers and takes to the air.'
"You may make the first move Jack." Ginny said.
"Alright, Shuppet use Shadow Sneak!" Jack ordered. Shuppet's shadow extended to underneath Talonflame, the shadow then extended above the ground and struck Talonflame, but Talonflame took next to no damage.
"Talonflame, use Hawk Arrow!" Ginny commanded, Talonflame's wings began glowing a soft white hue, it charged at Shuppet and crashed into it. Despite taking extreme damage, Shuppet managed to stay conscious.
"Shuppet please stay strong, use Feint Attack!"
Shuppet flew over to Talonflame and tackled it, a cloud of smoke formed when Shuppet made contact but it dissipated almost immediately.
"The enemy is weakened, use Eagle Kick to finish this battle Talonflame."
Talonflame flew up high and dove for Shuppet, it's talons ready to strike and glowing bright blue. The attack connected, Shuppet stood no chance of taking the hit, the ghost pokemon collapsed to the floor, knocked out. The two trainers recalled their pokemon.
"That was a nice try Jack." Ginny said, giving Jack a friendly smile.
"Thanks!" Jack replied, "You said you were from a different region, right? What region are you from?"
"I'm from the Edath region, it's to the east of Kalos, you should visit the region one day and challenge the league there."
"Heh, I just might take up that offer."
Later that evening, Jack left the cafe and was walking past the pokemon center, Armstrong and his associates offered him a place to stay for the night but Jack declined their offer, he didn't want to be a burden on them. As he was walking he saw Diego, Julia, Renée, and Yuki with Cynthia. Jack tried to avoid eye contact as he knew the twins and Diego would recognize his disguise. The group entered the pokemon center and checked in for the night.
"Thanks again for the awesome day aunt Cynthia!" Renée said.
"I'm just glad I got to see you two again and meet some of your friends!" Cynthia replied.
"So you're going back to Sinnoh?" Diego asked.
"Not yet, the Sinnoh League tournament doesn't start for another 8 months, so I'll be staying with my family."
"If you're going to see mom, can you tell her about all of the fun we had today?" Julia asked.
"Of course! Best of luck to all of you on your journeys. I'll see you again soon." Cynthia said leaving the pokemon center.
"Wow, you girls have the coolest aunt ever!" Yuki squealed.
"Yeah, she's really awesome!" Julia replied.
'Someday I'll battle you for real Cynthia and it'll be the greatest battle anyone's ever seen!' Diego thought to himself eager to battle the Sinnoh Champion again...
