Unintentional hiatus is unintentional. Anyway, this story is back on!
The group woke up the next morning and headed back to where their adventures began: The Vermillion City Pokemon Academy. The sky was cloudy and according to the weather reports, it might rain later that day.
"I wonder how Prof. Goff has been, we haven't seen him since we graduated!" Julia said.
"He's probably getting ready to teach his new class in the fall." Renée replied.
"Aww, why do we have to go back? I hate school!" Diego whined.
"Oh please, you loved it there!" Renée reminded him. Diego sighed before replying.
"I liked some of the classes, but everything else was soooooo boooooring!"
As they entered the Academy, the saw that they weren't the only ones who decided to pay their old teacher a visit.
"Sinead and Aiden! Did you come to visit Prof. Goff too?" Julia asked.
"You know it!" Snead answered.
"Personally in wanted to go to the gym, but I found out that Lt. Surge isn't there, so it's closed for the day." Aiden added.
"Well isn't that a nice coincidence! Am I right Diego?" Renée teased, poking Diego's arm as she spoke.
"Don't rub it in..." Diego said in a melancholic tone.
"Well isn't this a pleasant surprise!"
The five graduates turned to see a middle aged man wearing a lab coat, his hair was short and it cascaded down his face to form a goatee. He looked happy to see the trainers.
"Prof. Goff!" They all said in joy.
"It's very nice to see you all again! What brings you all here?" Prof. Goff asked.
"We wanted to show you how far we've come and to thank you for being our teacher." Sinead answered.
"That truly means a lot, it always brings a smile to my face when my old students come to visit. I was just about to head to the Environment Room, would you all like to join me?"
The trainers were quick to agree, following their old teacher to the upper floors.
The environment room was rather self explanatory, it was a room filled with small quadrants made up of various environments for pokemon such as small mountains, caves, plateaus, and even lakes. Lights on the ceiling were powerful enough to provide a light almost exactly like sunlight.
"It feels like forever since we've been in here!" Aiden said, looking around the room. A Wooper ran up to Julia and gave her a wide grin. It seemed to recognize her.
"Wooper?! Is it really you?!" Julia asked in awe, she picked up the Wooper and hugged it. "Eeek! I haven't seen you since you hatched Woopy!"
"It seems like Wooper really missed you!" Prof. Goff noted. "It always knew that assignment was a good idea."
The Professor looked back to when he gave the assignment in the first place.
Several months earlier, when the graduates were still students, Prof. Goff brought a large crate with him to class. Despite its size, he had no trouble lifting it.
"What's in the box Proffessor?" Snow asked.
"It's your next assignment!" Prof. Goff answered. "These are pokemon eggs that a local day care donated to us. I want you to take good care of these eggs for one week."
"What if the eggs hatch before the week is over?" Celeste questioned.
"I'm almost certain that at least a few of the eggs will hatch. If they do, you must take care of the pokemon that hatches from the egg until the assignment ends."
"Do we get to keep the pokemon?" Diego asked, this question seemed to interest many of the other students.
"Excellent question! Unfortunately you may not keep the pokemon that hatch, however you are free to keep them once you graduate!"
"Where will the pokemon be until then?" Styles asked.
"Another good question, follow me and I'll show you."
Professor Goff led the class the the Environment Room, the students looked in awe at all the pokemon. The room was tranquil, even pokemon that would normally be brutal and dangerous such as Gyarados, Tyranitar, and Aggron were acting kind and gentle towards everything. Sinead even got the opportunity to pet a Hydreigon!
"Wow, this place is awesome!" Dwayne exclaimed.
"It is very fascinating to see pokemon in their natural habitat, even if it isn't entirely natural." Prof. Goff noted. "More importantly, I want everyone to come and pick an egg for your assignment."
The students all lined up and picked an egg. Julia picked a blue egg with the dark blue lines on it, Renée had a red egg, Diego had a purple egg that seemed to have a yellow hand-like shape on it, Sinead had an orange egg with a yellow ring around the top, Styles had a red egg that had a shell that appears to have scales, Aiden had a brown egg, Celeste got a dark blue egg with a red circle on the top of it, Snow received a white egg that had some light blue patches towards the bottom of it, Dwayne got a purple egg, Gareth received a white egg with several red and blue triangles on it, Ray's egg was mostly blue with a bit of green on top, Ryan's egg was rather strangle looking, it looked like a geometric shape. Shade had a black egg with a white skull shape on it, Pandora had a light purple egg with a noticeable dark blue color underneath, Simon received a green egg that had some black lines and dots on it, Snow had a pink egg, Yuki's egg was black with white lines that were in a zigzag pattern, and Jack's egg was dark blue and black.
"Good, now that everyone has their egg, I expect you to take good care of these eggs. Class is dismissed."
One week later, the students returned to class with their pokemon, some were a but disappointed with the pokemon that hatched while others were very happy. Julia's egg hatched into a Wooper, Renée had a Pansear, Diego had an Aipom, Sinead had Buizel, Aiden had a Doduo, Celeste hatched a Beldum, Snow hatched a Vanillite, Dwayne had a Gastly, Gareth had a Togepi, Ray had a Lotad, Ryan had a Porygon, Shade had a Duskull, Pandora had an Inkay, Simon had a Spinarak, Snow had a Cleffa, Yuki had a Blitzle, Jack had a Deino, and to everybody's surprise, Styles' egg hatched into a Golden Magikarp!
"Well, I'm glad to see that you all brought your eggs safely, and I must admit that I had already known that the eggs were sure to hatch within a week. I am even more spruced to see that one of the eggs had hatched into a shiny pokemon!" Prof. Goff explained.
"So now what do we do with the pokemon?" Snow asked.
"Do we get to keep them?" Diego asked. "Please tell me we can keep them."
"The pokemon will be kept in the Environment Room for now, you're free to visit them whenever you please."
"Professor."
Prof. Goff snapped back to reality when his name was called, it was Julia.
"Professor, do you think we can keep the pokemon we hatched now?" She asked.
"Hm? Oh but of course! I did say you could keep them after you graduate."
"Yay!" Julia squealed, hugging her Wooper who, needless to say, looked happy.
"Professor, there's one thing I wanted to ask you." Diego said.
"Sure Diego, what do you need?"
"I want to battle you!" Diego announced eagerly. Prof. Goff smiled before answering.
"Sure Diego, I'll battle you." He said. 'He hasn't changed a bit.' The Professor thought to himself.
The two of them got into their positions to battle, Diego sent out his newly caught Treecko while the professor sent out a Ditto. Before either of them made a move, Ditto transformed into Treecko.
"Huh? I thought you had to have Ditto use Transform before it turned into whatever it was fighting?" Julia asked.
"The Professor's Ditto must have the ability called 'Imposter'. It automatically causes Ditto to transform into its opponent.
"Now, let's see what attacks this Treecko has." The prof. said, scanning his Ditto with some sort kf device. "Interesting." He noted.
"Treecko, use Quick Attack!" Diego ordered. Treecko charged at Ditto bouncing off of any nearby trees or rocks to try to confuse Ditto.
"Ditto, use Aerial Ace!" Prof. Goff ordered. Ditto leaped into the air and slashed Treecko, causing it to plummet to the floor. Treecko took considerable damage from the attack but it was still standing strong.
"What?! I didn't know Treecko could learn Aerial Ace!" Diego said in shock.
"You'd be surprised what moves several pokemon can learn. Ditto, continue with Quick Attack."
Diego panicked for a moment, he didn't know what move he should order. Finally, he made his move, albeit a strange one.
"Treecko, use Iron Tail!"
Surprisingly, Treecko actually did use Iron Tail! Ditto was hit right in its face from the attack, causing it to drop to the floor.
"Wait... what?!" Diego said in shock.
"I must admit, that attack was unexpected." Prof. Goff said. "But I'm afraid I must end this battle. Ditto, finish it with Aerial Ace!"
Ditto dashed at Treecko and hit it right in its abdomen, forcing it into the wall and knocking it out.
"Woah, who new the professor was such a strong battler!" Aiden said in shock.
"You battled well Diego. You've truly learned a lot." Prof. Goff said.
"What? No offense but I've always thought of classes to be really boring." Diego confessed.
"Many of my ex-students say that, but in the end there is always something that they learn." He turned to the others. "All of you, use what you learned and you'll surely find success in whatever you do."
The trainers all agreed and smiled at their former teacher.
Later that evening, the five trainers were in the pokemon center. Julia and Renée were talking to their mom over the visual phone.
"Mom, do you think you can take care of this Wooper and Pansear for us?" Renée asked.
"Of course! It's been so quiet since Growlithe left. It would be great to have some company!" Their mom answered.
As the twins sent their pokemon iver, Diego talked to Sinead and Aiden.
"So are you two gonna challenge the gym too?" Diego asked.
"Nope, we already have our badges." Sinead answered, she and Aiden showed him their Thunder Badges.
"Aww what! Well I'll have my badge tomorrow, I swear it!" Diego exclaimed.
"I'm sure you will dude, but I'm heading down to Fuchsia City. See ya'!" Aiden said, leaving the pokemon center.
"I better go to, I wanna go see the Safari Zone!" Sinead added, following after Aiden. The twins approached Diego, having ended their call.
"Where are they going?" Julia asked.
"They already have their sixth badge so they're headed to Fuchsia City." Diego answered.
"Well that's a shame, I was hoping they would stay and watch our battles tomorrow... By the way, what did you do with your Aipom, Diego?" Renée responded.
"I sent it to my mom back in Pallet Town." Diego answered. The three of them went to go get some food, however once they left the pokemon center they saw a pokemon quickly rise out of the water and fly away. It was a blur, but the pokemon was silver colored. The three of them managed to catch a quick glimpse of it in the sky before it created clouds to hide itself.
"Woah... what was that?!" Julia asked in awe.
"I don't know, but I want it!" Diego replied, an eager grin forming on his face.
And that's it for this chapter! The next gym battles are coming soon, and I'll try to have the next chapter up quicker.
