Chapter 4 Coffee Time

Elizabeth stood by the door anxiously waiting for Lucas to arrive. She felt like a little schoolgirl who just had her first crush. Here was this incredibly handsome man that could have any woman he wanted, and he has chosen to date her. She felt special, beautiful, lucky. Her anxiety dissipated when she heard a knock on the door. She opened it to see a more casual Lucas.

"Oh. This is a side of you I will enjoy getting to know better. You look good in jeans."

"Thank you. I always where jeans to the hospital." He replied kissing her on the forehead. "Shall we go?"

There was a coffee shop right around the corner from Elizabeth's apartment. It was a quaint little shop. Lucas and Elizabeth walked in and sat at a booth in the corner. "Elizabeth how do you like your coffee?"

"Black with one sugar."

"Would you prefer a Danish or doughnuts?" He asked.

"Danish."

The waitress came to the table and Lucas placed their order.

"Elizabeth?" He said reaching across the table and grabbing her hand.

"Lucas, what is it?"

"I know I don't have a lot of time to offer you, but would love to have coffee in the mornings, take you to school, pick you up and spend a few hours after school with you. I guess what I am trying to say is that I would like to be exclusive. I don't want you seeing anyone else."

"Lucas, I would not do that. I appreciate you being honest with me. I would love to spend as much time as possible with you. I will admit I really enjoyed our first kiss." She winked.

"Then you would have no objections to sharing more of those." He asked curious to hear her answer.

"Definitely not." She giggled.

"Great! I will kiss you as much as you like." He winked.

They finished their coffee and Lucas drove Elizabeth to the school. He got out and opened the door for her. "Elizabeth, have a wonderful day!" He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her in for a gentle kiss. "What time should I be here to get you?" He asked pulling back enough to see her face.

"Be here by 3:10." She responded. "Lucas, I look forward to more kisses."

"I will have some waiting for you." He grinned as he returned to the car.

Elizabeth walked through the hallway with a smile on her face. She couldn't remember the last time she had feelings for a man. She was hoping she would be able to focus, his kisses had her distracted beyond measure. "How am I supposed to work now?" She thought to herself. His kisses were leaving her dizzy and mindless.

Lucas went to the hospital feeling giddy like a schoolboy with his first crush, but he was no schoolboy. He was a grown man and had told himself he would know exactly what he wanted when he saw it. It had been that way his whole life. He always went after his dreams and now that dream included Elizabeth.

He walked into Timmy's room and Timmy had the biggest smile. "Lucas!"

"Hi Timmy, how are you today?" Lucas asked knowing the Leukemia was taking a lot out of him.

"Did you bring me a candy bar?" Timmy asked weakly.

Lucas waved his hands together and a kit kat appeared. Timmy sat up in the bed clapping and smiling. Timmy had become quite fond of Lucas. Lucas would play video games with him whenever he would come, and Timmy felt well enough. He would spend several hours in his room just trying to put a smile on his face. This was the most rewarding feeling Lucas could ever ask for. Sometimes he felt like he made a difference in his life. His heart beat with joy every time that little boy cracked a smile.

At 3:00 Lucas left to pick up Elizabeth from school. When he arrived, she wasn't waiting outside, so Lucas parked the car and went in to find her. As he opened the door to the front office, the ladies all stopped and stared. Lucas had that affect on women. He knew it but pretended to ignore it.

"Can I help you?" The secretary said.

"I am looking for Miss Thatcher."

"Oh, she is in the gymnasium. I can take you to her if you like. She is getting ready for the school program in which we are still searching for some other entertainment."

"That would be greatly appreciated Mrs.?"

"Oh sorry, Thompson."

"Thank you, I could help perhaps. I am a magician and would be more than happy to volunteer my services if you tell me when."

"Really? That would be wonderful. The children would absolutely love it." She shook his hand with an excited handshake as she took him up to Elizabeth.

"What did I miss?" Elizabeth asked.

"Elizabeth where have you been keeping this man? He just volunteered to do a magic show for the school as part of the entertainment."

"I could donate food as well if you guys would like?"

"Lucas, are you sure you have time for that?" Elizabeth questioned.

Elizabeth I always have time for the kids. These kids are our future. You never know I may inspire one of them to become a great Houdini." He teased. "Are you about done here?"

"I am. I just need to find a ladder and hang these decorations." She looked around.

"No need. I would love to hang these for you. Just show me where to put them." Lucas offered.

Lucas hung the decorations and then walked with Elizabeth back to the car. "Well, I guess we will not get to have dinner this evening at my house. It is already 4:45 and I will have to be heading to the club. We can grab some quick Chinese food and take it to your apartment if you like."

"Lucas that sounds wonderful."

They cleared the drive thru and headed back to Elizabeth's where they ate their Chinese food. "Lucas, I can't thank you enough for all the things you do. You are truly amazing."

"Well, I know one way you can thank me by walking me to the door." He took her by the hand as they walked to the door. He leaned her back against the door. "Now you can thank me." He leaned down and captured her lips she responded deepening the kiss.

"Wow!" He pulled back. "You are intoxicating. How will I get through the evening now?"

"I think you'll manage." She teased playfully.

"Goodnight! I will see you in the morning."

Lucas arrived at the club late. "You are late Lucas. Were you with Elizabeth?" Gustave chuckled.

"As a matter of fact, I was."

"I am happy for you Lucas. I hope everything works out good for you."

"I do too, Gustave. I do too. I might have volunteered us to do a charity event at her school."

"Why do I bother?" Gustave smirked.

Rosemary heard a knock on the door. "Elizabeth? You never stop by on school nights. What is wrong?"

"Why does something have to be wrong? Can't something be right? I'm falling for him Rosemary. "

"Oh Elizabeth. This is wonderful news."

"I'm scared of my overwhelming attraction to him. The man is fine, and I have never met a man with as big off heart. He is the total package and a first-class kisser. I am scared. He gets so much attention, and it bothers me."

"Elizabeth? I think you are going to have to live with that. It is not his fault he is a very handsome man."

"I know. How do I get passed it?"

Rosemary smiled at her best friend. "Talk to him about your feelings and see what he says."

"Thank you, Rosemary." Elizabeth hugged her friend and retired back home for the evening dreaming of Lucas.
